3.2 and ICS updates? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok i'm confused because wikipedia lists the 10.1 Galaxy Tab as having 3.2 Honeycomb yet Kies says my 10.1 Galaxy Tab with 3.1 is totally up to date?
I also saw alot of news from Samsung saying that it will get ICS but i've seen nothing to say if its soon or what.

In some regions, countries or w/e the 3.2 update isn't released yet.
Maybe try updating over the air.
Samsung will release ICS for the tab in Q1 (they stated) but probably it will be Q2

Not too sure what over the air means lol. I tried it when I was connected to my wifi and also when connected to the PC via cable with Kies. I guess maybe you mean via 3g. So I tried it just now and got nothing. Seriously what reason would they have to not allow update worldwide for it lol? Just pisses off the customers who get jibbed out of the performance boost the update would give.
If they did this for 3.2 I have to wonder if i'll be screwed out of ICS and never get it too or get it in a few years lol cause it seems they CBF updating mine.
I had this issue with the 7 inch galaxy tab where the internet said the 7 inch had Gingerbread but the newest OS was Froyo and I even went to the Samsung Australia site and they had a user manual download there for Gingerbread so I rang up Samsung and found out despite the website getting all its info for my country updated to Gingerbread that it wasn't out yet and had no ETA. Finally like 6 month or so after the website listed Gingerbread the update came lol.

Meh, I'm happy with the update. I'll flash the new one when it comes out too, but this is running smoothly for me.

Of course, it's better. However, you'll likely have to flash back to stock 2.1 JFD as I'd expect to you won't be able to update directly from JI5. Even the JI5 update forced people to do that (for example those that were on JI2 / JI4), I'd expect more of the same. There are those who have no problem doing this and that's fine. I'm just warning those who aren't / might not be.

Fine there are Odin official tmobile images over in bible sticky and take a min to flash
Yea you lose programs settings ...ect but IMO its better to start from scratch when using new updates. And not run into intermittent and compatibility issues like what seems to be going on now with allot of people
but yea this update works great no problems whats so ever for me

Thanx, but I sorta needed that working GPS last week, not soon. Besides, "soon" is such an evasive term.
This makes me recollect the June 8th outing of a policy statement by Cole Brodman, Chief Technology Officer @ T-Mobile titled "No Phone Left Behind". It was in regards to assuring owners of the HTC Mytouch3G that they'd be receiving a Froyo update.
Nearly four months later and zip for the MT3G from Tmobile or HTC.
Maybe I'm wrong as my knowledge of timelines is from the inside of my addled head, but I do not believe T-Mobile has had a successful OTA of *ANY* Android phone in their stable this year at all. It's not the most encouraging development. (I do recall the Behold II 1.6 OTA, but it was eventually pulled for bricking phones....and led to me getting my Vibrant for free from T-Mobile before the official Vibrant launch...long story).
Granted, T-Mobile does not develop firmware, so they are at the mercy of the phone manufacturers. Still, if there's any issue that is at the core of Android angst, it is this one.
Just so I don't come across as a troll, I love my Vibrant. Compared to the Behold II I had and every other smartphone I've had it's leaps and bounds ahead of them all. I just get irritated when P.R. and "spin" get out of control...
Of course, this thread was a warning to the people who hadn't yet flashed JI5 / Kies and were still uncomfortable with doing it. Obviously, it's not people who are (already) comfortable. Knowledgeable people are certainly free to ignore and flash away.
This is BS. T-Mobile... how soon is soon? How long have we heard there would be an update to the MyTouch? I cannot and will not wait around for them to OTA anything. I will be very shocked if I get an update in the next month. I know i sound a little pessimistic but who wouldn't?
This is nonsense, installing this update does not prevent me from ODIN to any other firmware. I went directly from JI4 to JI5, so whoever said that I cannot do that is very confused.

That's because you ODIN flashed it.
Kies looked for the JFD product code, then gave you the option to update.
Lol how ironic that they don't want you to flash the firmware because it has 'known' issues. But the firmware on it has bigger issues so hmmm

OTA could brick it just as well. Would it be Samsungs first OTA update for Android or the first OTA ever?

True. I'd like to think the probability of bricking over OTA would be lower. Since it would be an official update they'd also likely be / feel more obligated to provide whatever support they wanted to.

Does i9000 rom mean we are one step closer?

.....to having a working Gingerbread rom for the Vibrant? Is this rom going to contain the keys to getting a fully functional build?
One can only hope.
Sent from my T959 using XDA App
We already have 3+ gingerbread roms from a month ago... Why do you want a build that will take longer? The devs can probably put the features from it to ours but that may be it, the remove service.jar won't work I dont think so.
according to the samsung site Vibrant is to be supported through a 2.3 gingerbread release, but then that is the Samsung site and they probably release 2.3 after we all moved on to something else. One of the problems most phone manufacturers of android have discovered, is how quickly the upgrading demand is. They did not anticipate that we the public would get so savvy so fast.
But My guess 2.3 release will be in Aug-Sept after the S2 release
Official i900 rom rolling out already!!!

Nope, never.
Most of our GPS sucks, and if GPS isn't included its not a "fully functional" rom.
so in theory, no we will never have it.

GPS works fine for some people, even without the hardware fix. So don't say we'll never have it, unless you have some insider info the rest of us don't have. This release probably won't get us any closer, but who's to say we won't get a 2.3 release for our phones. Samsung isn't as horrible at updates as we used to think. Most phones released prior didn't see it past one major update. Samsung has pushed out two major updates for a phone that's coming up on its 1st birthday. Can't say the same for many other OEMs.

I didn't say GPS doesnt work for ALL, but be truthful, most of the GPS of Vibrants do not work, and probably wont work until you do the hardware fix or get another vibrant made at a earlier date.
I wasn't talking about updates directly from Samsung, and i've never questioned their update-mentality. I receive updates on my Samsung TV/Blu-Ray player i bought a year ago still.
I was talking about a "FULLY FUNCTIONAL" rom.
Most of the roms we already have, GPS doesn't work for most, so what makes you think it'll randomly work when we get 2.3? A Software update isn't going to do much except make it about 50 ft accuracy or something like that.

GPS doesn't work on the new 2.3 roms because we don't have drivers, it's a software issue. That will ABSOLUTELY change with an official release. For those with working GPS,(such as me, others who have done the hardware fix, and people who got lucky with revised Vibrant hardware) this WOULD be a fully functional rom.
I didn't say the update would magically fix a hardware problem, but the fact is the GPS issues have nothing to do with the rom, only the hardware. However with CM7, it is an issue with the rom. That's why GPS works for no one, when it worked fine on 2.2 for those without hardware issues. There is a difference between a crippled rom and crippled hardware.

[Q] Ok Let me get this straight? (P4VZW)

So i have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE from verizon..
I got CWM installed, and tried AKOP... No LTE support
Tried CM9, no LTE support...
so basically there is no LTE support or camera support for the tab? or did I miss something? (totally possible)
Thanks for your help.
BTW both booted fine, and looked good, but without LTE this tab is worthless to me.

No camera because no one has written a camera driver for ICS and Samsung hasn't released the official ICS for our tab. LTE isn't on any ICS ROMs, either, just Honeycomb.

thanks
now that is quite disappointing honestly.. I knew about the camera, and was ok with it, but without LTE... I might as well not have the thing
guess I have to wait till Samsung releases ICS, and Verizon checks it out..
I do Kind of wish that the ROM publishers would make that clear... you download a VZW version of a rom you assume that that would work unless otherwise specified.
So LTE doesn't work, but does 3g?
Don't get confused here . .for the SCH-i905 you will NOT get mobile data to work PERIOD. Flashing ICS based ROMs (CM9 or AOKP) that are marked compatible with the SCH-i905 (VZW) version of the GT 10.1 will result in that tablet becoming a WIFI ONLY device.
Until an official release is made there are no drivers available for the camera or the modem built into the LTE version which is why EVERYONE is waiting on camera drivers and all verizon tab users on contract are waiting on modem ones. Before anyone asks, NO the 3g modem driver for 3g models is not compatible with LTE.

Right I understand, but when you read what is and isnt working on the roms, and the only thing listed over and over and over again is the camera, you are likely to make a bad assumption that the LTE radio would work. I am not upset that it doesnt work, just wish the devs would do a slightly more comprehensive job detailing that the radio doesnt work.
I mean honestly if the rom is written with your tablet in mind, and besides and caveats you are already aware of, you would assume that the primary thing that sets your tablet asside from the rest.. would work.
I am just more disappointed that I have to wait for samsung to get off their lazy asses to make ICS a reality, I have a GNEX and am now spoiled by both ICS, and now JB, and really just cant wait to get my hands on them on this tablet.

FIRMWARE Update Issue

I am on XXBLFB (BTU), I never got the OTA update cause it was giving me a message to try again later. Now it says no update available and KIES shows that LFB is the latest firmware :S. Did Samsung take down the latest firmware? And will they be making it live again? Also I wanted to know if there are any disadvantages of flashing through ODIN vs KIES/OTA.

The wait later was annoying me too, so I used CheckFUS+ODIN. But you're not missing much. I'm sure it fixes some bugs, but its headline "feature" is the removal of integrated search, due to the Apple victory in the US.
However, Samsung weren't legally obliged to remove that feature worldwide (and Apple would be unlikely to win a similar case in Europe). Based on the complaints about the legally-unnecessary nature of the "update", its possible Samsung have pulled it for the time being.
They have definitely pulled the update (have a look at CheckFUS) but the exact motive... can't say for sure yet. For all we know the removal of integrated search from a non-US firmware was a mistake.
Oh well. Wonder if they will be fixing the same bugs with a different firmware since quite a few people did not update their phones due to not getting the OTA as well the relatively short time frame when the update was live.
Exactly as I guessed , it was a mistake according to BBC, which was why they pulled LG6

Hey all,
As some of you have already noted, an update is available for the Samsung Galaxy SII.
The update includes fixes for devices that may become unresponsive and/or power down while sitting idle on rare occasions. It also enhances security to protect against malware vulnerability. You will receive a notification on your phone to update.
NOTE - You must have updated to Android version 4.0 to receive notification of the new software update

There's at least as much cya and marketing motivation involved as anything else.
I previously rooted and flashed Siyah 4.3.3 which resolved my issue with the sleep of death. This seems to prevent this new update from installing as when the phone reboots it shows the Siyah boot image and then boots back into the OS, when I unlock the phone it tells me that the update failed to install. I'm not in a hurry to install an update that resolves something I've fixed through other means, but I thought I'd share for those interested.

This has been happening to me for the past few months, on more than "rare occassions" though. I never knew what to call it until I saw people on here refer to it as Sleep of Death. Yep, sounds about right. And it would rapidly drain my battery when it happened.
I've successfully updated, so hopefully this will take care of it. It gets VERY annoying! And all the much worse since I use my phone for my alarm, haha. I have my wife's as a backup though.
Anyone pull the modem yet?

I'm only a curious now, about whether this fixes the SOD. After hours on the phone with ATT and Samsung, and a few factory resets and a new phone, it was still doing it. And each time I called them about it, they'd say they were not aware of such a problem. Anyway, not an issue anymore for me, since going to Task's AOKP ROM, which got me so many better features than an ATT update ever would have - warranty or no.
The only reason why this OTA was pushed was because a ton of users were posting this issue on the ATT forums for 4 months straight. Even then ATT pushes an OTA for 4.0.4 instead of using one of the many 4.1.2 firmwares from Samsung.

My understanding is that it is up to Samsung to produce the firmware, and because it's a carrier-branded device, I have a hard time believing that they'd do that unless instructed to.
Really? You think Samsung is the one making the decision? Its really the carrier.
Can someone pull the modem from this update? Pm or post a download link once extracted please.
