I searched but couldn't find more people with this issue. My wifi is working pretty ok but often when I am downloading a lot of things at the same time (like installing many apps simultaneously from Market) my Prime will lose its wifi-connection for a few seconds. The connection then comes back and all is back to normal. This happens whether the wifi reception is good or bad.
Anybody else experiencing this?
Mine does it too.
Mine did when I was at home(not always when using market, but often). Fixed it at home by setting my router to 801.11g(only) instead of g, n combination.
At work(g, n) it always has been fine.
The thing is, my girlfriends HTC Legend always had connection stability issues when connected to our home router, and those problems are also solved now(our laptops had no issues at all). So i'm blaming it on compatibility issues with my router(Zyxel NGB-460n).
Did you try this?
In "Wireless & Networks > Wi-Fi
Select the specific connection you are on.
Select "Forget"
Select that connection and log-in again(input password if needed).
Some would reboot. I just re-connect. It only happened to me once.
Thanks for the suggestions. I have reconnected but that did not help. Changing the router settings I will not do, all my other units work with its current settings.

It may be something to do with the market. It has happened to me, but only in market. Downloading large files from other sources never. Strange.

I have recently lost my signal from my WiFi at home but my phone still picks up the WiFi signals from the neighbors. I exchanged my first 3d for a new one but I still have the same problem. My ipod still picks up and uses the WiFi signal and was wondering if anybody knew why this maybe happening.
Thanks,

Try resetting your router. Or try updating the firmware of the router. Also try forgetting the network in wifi settings and then try logging back in. Or do a factory wipe.
Locked & Loaded
just turn wifi on and off, no biggie, works pretty well.
Check out WiFi Fixer in the app market. Solved all of my problems.
Whoa, before you do all that other stuff.
So your ipod works with your router? And your phone connects to your neighbor's router? If so then most likely your router isn't a problem, nor is your phone.
Android's wifi stack does a really good job of automagically connecting to the best available wifi spot. Do you see your wifi router in the Wifi settings? If so, long press and connect to it. If you have authentication set, then it will prompt you for a password.
Let's start with that then go with more, if needed, and will probably need more information that you provide.
My phone doesn't even see my WiFi connection, it can see all the other connections only... I've traded my phone in not only for this problem but other problems and this problem still looms. I'm thinking its in my settings that were transferred from my other phone? I don't know, help please...

Man its might be your router. Have ya even tried just resetting the router back to factory defaults??? Its a tiny pin size hole on the back of your router "or at least it.should be" Henceforth, find a needle or safety pin and press the that button for like 10 or 15 seconds and wailt 2 to 4 min. After that go to your wifi settings on your phone and click on your network name and chose forget. Now look for your new network name and which should be an open and unsecured network. It should have the manufacturing abbreviation in the network name so if its say a belkin it might be -belkin123 unsecured- also it should be open because when you reset the router it erases all of the security. Also routers firmware should always be upgrade. Not saying this will solve your issue but it might and its a really quick way to rule out if its your router.
Locked & Loaded
Some of the "perm-temp" root scripts caused this, if you used some of the older ones, you may be experiencing this.
The solution to it was to "forget" all your wifi connections on the phone, power it off/battery pull, then reconnect.
Of course, if this doesn't fit your scenario, disregard.
Should probably go in development but as a noob I can't post their yet.
Since updating to CM7 A3.5 I started having wireless issues. Would lose IP connectivity but connection up. Other wireless devices no issues and previous CM7 versions had been okay.
Updated to Xron 2.91 on here which seemed to make things worse.
Ran a wifi signal app and noticed neighbours AP on the same channel. Reconfigured mine and have had no touchpad issues since.
As all other devices were fine I didn't think of checking the frequency. Obviously the touchpad is a bit sensitive.
Hope someone else benefits from this. Thanks to those who released the Xrom and CM7 roms. Makes the touchpad a wicked cheap tablet.
Matt.
This has been talked about before and is considered one way of fixing wifi problems. If you still can't connect you could make the touchpad forget the network from settings and reconnect again. Using an app like regpon wifi keep alive helps a lot and finally a reboot helps if everything else fails

Also: Make sure your date/time is correct and a reboot into webOS often fixes it.
Yeah the wifi issues seem to be a hit or miss. Sometimes changing the channel works for people. Other times it's just the router. I would need to always "forget" the connection before turning my TP off then reconnect after at my house. But it works perfectly at my friends house. Thanks for the post though. It might help others with this issue.
i was just going to actually post in the thread, but like you, i am a newb with insufficient rights =)
ive done 4 touchpads, 3 different routers, cm7 3.0/3.5 and xronified 2.1 and to 2.9:
-asus rt12n w/tomato 1.28 in WDS mode with WPA1 AES on channel 11:
runs flawlessly on every revision and touchpad ive done so far.
-airlink ar670w w/ddwrt sp1 with WPA2 AES on channel 11:
initially connects but when TP goes to sleep, it will not reconnect on wakeup and strobe on and off and lock up wifi settings. cm7 3.0/3.5 and xronified 2.7/8/9
-linksys wrt54g w/hyper thibor with WPA2 AES on channel 11:
same results the airlink with ddwrt
after searching and experimenting, ive gotten both the linksys and airlink to play nice by doing the following:
1) changed encryption from WPA2 to WPA1
2) changed channels to 6 or 1 (personally i just picked whatever seemed less crowded)
3) disabled wifi sleep and scanning on TP.
4) rebooted TP into webos then back into android and rebooted router.
hope one or some of these solutions helped.
Even if your other devices weren't having issues being on the same wifi channel can cause packet loss due to interference making your Internet feel slower.
I also read that people had succes using the FXR Wifi Fix app to fix some of their wifi issues. If anyone is still having issues, you might want to try that out as well.

Download the apk and install manually from computer. just connect the touchpad to the computer and copy the file over.
The fxr app does restore my wifi connection, but does not permanently fix my disconnect issues. I am trying out the regpon app now, so hopefully this will help maintain my connections!
As far as messing with routers, this is not an option for me as I use my school's wifi network when I'm working in my lab.
I have only dropped once at home and after forgetting the network and reconnecting I never had trouble again.
First post here... Just want to say that this is an amazing community. So many cool heads willing to spend time to help. It's awesome. With guidance from many of you(I have done EXTENSIVE reading around here for days), I just did my first CM install on my TP and I am in heaven.
The solution I'very found is to tap the icon next to the back icon and then the wireless icon. Don't even know what the icons called, butit has buttons to turn. on/off wifi, Bluetooth, suond and what I'm assuming is the camera.
I've been playing with an TP now for about a week or so. When I got it, the WiFi worked great, on both bootups. Now if I turn off the device and restart the WiFi never works on Android unless I go through the hassle of wiping my Delvik and or playing with a code I have for SuperUser. However if I boot up in WebOS, WiFi is there and connects immediately to any WiFi in the area.
Answers?!
Thanks in advance!
Not sure if Android wifi is perhaps detailed in another topic, but i'll post my issue here too while i keep searching for a solution.
I connect easily WebOS to Nexus One using "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot" ..but in CM9 the wifi loops "Obtaining IP Address, Saving.. Obtaining IP Address" ..repeatedly.
Has anyone succeeded yet with Android-to-Android via portable hotspot?
EDIT: Okay, after re-applying sledgehammer, rebooting everytime i turn on TP's wi-fi (+ few FCs), disconnecting and reconnecting a few more times, it's finally connecting.. occasionally.
I'm not even trying to use the portable hotspot, at this point just trying to connect to my router at home, which it had no problem with earlier.
But the TP keeps looping the same as you...
"Obtaining IP Address, Saving.. Obtaining IP Address"
At least I'm not getting the 'force close' box anymore. Lol
I had terrible connection issues on CM7 and after installing CM9 all seemed fine until my first reboot, then I couldn't connect at all.
A few days ago, I changed my linksys router wireless channel from 11 to 4 and have not lost connection a single time since, even after multiple reboots. I have seen several others say they have had similar success.
However this happens no matter where I'm at, or who's router I'm using. ( I currently have an ActionTec, via Verizon), and I use the TP at school, so no idea what they have set up as wireless.
Had some issues with the portable hotspot from my iPhone but after making the TP forget the connection, toggling the wifi on both devices I can pick it up again. Not too bad. No issues with my home router.
I had to do the same, I 'Forgot' the network, then I toggled the Wifi on and then off. For whatever reason it has no issues staying connected to my home network now.
However at work I have to do that forget n' toggle everytime I reboot it.
Did you do a clean install or on top of CM7? When I loaded on top, I had many problems.
After an uninstall and fresh load of CM9, I do not have any problems like I use to experience in CM7. I would remove WiFi profiles and re-connect when going from Home to Office networks. I have none of that now in CM9, knock on wood.
I had issues frequently with CM7 and wifi, as was common. I haven't had any issues with CM9 or preludedrews latest build. I follow the "kill a fly with a sledgehammer" approach. I wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache, advanced>wipe dalvik, mounts>format system, cache, data. Then installed. It takes an extra second to do all the wipes, but with experimental builds like this I always do it.
Now the only android issue I can't fix is ironically the xda app. In CM7, xron, CM9, or preludedrew's build whenever I try to do anything it FCs. That is my only complaint right now.

I was not having the wifi troubles that two other touchpad owners I know were having. I installed Android on both of their devices, but couldn't figure out what to do to fix it and it was making me insane. Finally, we reset all our routers to a channel below 5 and found that they all connected to wifi well, HOWEVER, I found a better solution. I don't know if anyone has noticed this, but this must be a setting I fiddled with on my TP, that the other two TP owners had not fiddled with.
Go into Wifi Settings, then click the Menu button at the bottom left (the three bars)... click Advanced then click Regulatory Domain. In my touchpad, I had clicked on the 11 Channel option. On the two touchpads that could not regularly connect to wifi, neither had a selection made whatsoever under "Regulatory Domain." After clicking "11 Channels," all three touchpads can connect to wifi with no issues AT ALL, no matter the channel.
I almost can't believe this hasn't been posted in other forums yet, because it seems to be the key and much easier than setting every router you want to connect to, to a different channel.
Please let me know if this works.
Thanks for the tip. My touchpad had nothing selected either in that menu. Hopefully this will solve my wifi woes!

nice find thanks I'll give it a try
i cant even find the wifi settings/menu. i go into the wifi and can view the networks available, look at known connections, and when i look at preferences i'm only given one option to toggle which is whether the wifi turns on or off while sleeping.
so where do i look to find the above mentioned wifi settings which leads to the menu button that i cannot find? thanks.

I don't thank it is for CM9.
It's on top corner. You can access menus there. However, on CM9 build I do not have the regulatory options to change the channels as you explained. It's an advanced tab that gives me access to sleep policy, etc. Are you on CM7?
Yep, it's only CM7.

Sorry, I should have specified that I'm on CM7. It works so wonderfully for me that I won't be doing CM9 until many more of the bugs are worked out.
I'm running Miui with CM7 base. I do not see where these 'menu' options are. *head scratching*.. Is it under the 'advanced' tab?
Found it, but it to is selected with 11 channels already.
# rm -rf /data/misc/wifi && reboot
this also works, but it's a pain to have to copy and paste it and run it through the terminal daily. just hoping for a solid fix. cm9 seems to be the way to go, but once they have a few more of the bugs worked out.
So I did a factory reset a few weeks ago and since then location services does not work at home on my wifi...works everywhere else.
I emailed Asus and they finally just got back to me...and want me to RMA for diag and repair.. not sure I want to send it in based on people saying they've been waiting for weeks to get it back. May be worth it if they wiped it or sent me a replacement... Thoughts?

If wifi works elsewhere there is some configuration issue with your router and the tab and likely nothing inherent with the tab itself. Have you tried to change the channel your wifi is broadcast upon?

I'll second that, and strongly recommend against sending in for RMA for this.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT send it in for an RMA. It's definitely something w/ your home network configuration if you can connect everywhere else. If you're really stumped, you may want to factory reset the router.
Also, on your tablet, make sure you "forget" your Wifi network and then reconnect. You can try this before resetting the router. Your wifi settings are saved with your Google account, and they'll stay the same even after resetting the tablet, so if there are any problems in your wifi network settings on your tablet, these settings will persist even after after resetting the tablet.
Think I will pass on the RMA.
However I dont belive its the router because my wifi is fine, its just location services that wont find me at home.
All my other android devices do that just fine.
I am thinking a full wipe would maybe get it back but I will wait and see what happens with the software updates/ ROMS whenever they come.
Everything else seems to be fine for me on my ATP
I'm getting often wi-fi drop outs throughout the day and the only way to fix it is by restarting the router?!
Restarting the phone doesn't work
Turning off/on the wi-fi doesn't work
Switching bands doesn't work
yet it still allows connection to BTFON/BT OPENZONE? But won't connect to my broadband.
It's kind of annoying, because on the status bar it shows that it's still on wifi but going into settings and turning it off/on then shows it's not working. As it won't connect to the internet obviously.
Anybody else getting this? Any fixes?!
Thanks.
I have an issue where it just briefly drops the connection and reconneca, sometimes it is connected but can't access internet unless I cycle wifi.
I am on the Optus, Australia S3.
I have tried it on both my access points, it can't sustain a Skype call-keeps choking up-I am hoping a new kernel or custom ROM may help-tried Omega, but had barely any phone signal.
I have sleep set to never, have tried 2.4GHz only....a bit annoying, but Ireckon it should be sorted soon. It is the only issue I have.

Try changing the security type of your router. It's often better to pub less encrypted seucurity. For instance try removing security completely for a few min and see if the problem carrys one. Then it means the problem is from the security of your router and then change the type of security to something different than it was before and should fix it. good luck

Hmmm i just changed it from WPA2 only too WPA & WPA2.. seems to be working at the moment.
I'll report back later.
Is it a bug that it doesn't support WPA2 or something?

You are in UK as well, are you on Orange and using the "Your Wifi" app to manage the access to free BT hotspots?

Oh No it's not a bug! Some times different routers are not well at making a steady connections with certain devices through high encryptions. As you remarked the problem is not an issue incase of connecting to BTOpenzone and yes pretty much. This problem can often be solved without the need of even purchasing a new router. Simply head over to your router's setting page (should be something like 192.168.xxxxxx) then see if it's possible to upgrade your router's firmware.
See this link, maybe it will give you an idea of what I'm taking about

I'm assuming you're using a bt homehub of some sort?
I'm using a bt homehub 3 and I've been getting constant drop outs when downloading files over wifi.
I tried a lot of different fixes and was clsoe to throwing the phone out of the window lol
What seems to have solved the drop outs for me is using wpa instead of wpa2.
Try a factory reset?
I'm also on a BT Homehub and i haven't had a single problem, i did a factory reset as soon as i got the phone to prevent any issues.
