[Q] Atrix 4G Gingerbread stability - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there
I am planning to buy Atrix 4G. I previously had Milestone which I upgraded to 2.2 and I was not satisfied with the performance. Random boots, hang (DSI error) these always occurred on that. I then decided not go for any Motorola device. But now I am again thinking to buy Motorola. So tell if there is such problem with aAtrix after upgrading to Gingerbread. How much you are satisfied with your device on daily usage. I want it as my primary (work & home) device. So please tell about its software reliability. Thanks

The ATRIX 4g is one of the most stable cells out there still to date and on GB it is still stable and extremely fast I highly recommend this cell I haven't had any kind of problems I'm using a international ATRIX 4g and I get service in places where non of my friends do even the ones using the same provider as me
If you found this helpful plz hit thanks

Thanks for reply
I know the connectivity is best in Motorola even my Fire lock GPS faster than my bros S in room as well as in open space. What I am scared is with random boots and hang which I faced in previously owned Milestone. I am getting little money from my brother as I don't have much to buy 1G ram phone. So I want a stable investment as I am travelling soon so I need a good partner .
Your reply was plasent to my eyes. My bro want me to get Galaxy R as its very stable he thinks and I feel. But I like the Motorola GB UI, it's very nicely built.
Did you had hang sometimes running apps or as such? How often are the hang/random boots?

I have never had a random boot even when testing my own apps that were no where close to being done and had it set to hard reboot(random reboot) if things went really wrong witch help show how stable it is so no problems with random reboots and I haven't once had any hangs on apps I suggest this cell over the galaxy R my friend has one and they are a good cell but even my friend is envoys of my ATRIX and to add the cherry my ATRIX scores higher in gaming and productivity then his galaxy R

As a previous milestone owner, I can tell you that the Atrix will make it feel like an old model T.
However, because it has eFuses, you can hard brick it with a careless flash. More easily than any smartphone I've ever had. Other than that, it's a pleasure to use.

No problem, I'll be stick to stock rom

Im pretty sure its 128mb decompressed and I fuighered you where wanting to run stock ROM the Motorola team has really pulled their socks up since the milestone and has been making some rock solid devices (dunno about tablet haven't used one...yet) I suggest getting a international ATRIX (vs AT&T) they are unlocked SIM and don't have as much bloat ware on stock ROM unless you use AT&T then you might want their bloat ware as you MIGHT use some of it to check your account but this is all downloadable for the international in the market besides if you really want you can root your device and force uninstall the bloat ware ie twitter or pvr remote. As you sead b4 tho you are traveling and that alone should be a large step twords the international ATRIX

I still have my milestone and I Just use it as an alarm clock now. It can't face my atrix, both on custom and stock rom.
The atrix is very reliable, you won't regret your investment.

Milestone was solid built. I felt proud carrying it in my hand. I never put it in my pocket when I use to go outside.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium

Milestone had great build quality but was crippled by insufficient RAM. At a time when other premium handsets were getting 512MB+, moto cut corners and put in 256 - d'oh!
Also the keyboard was atrocious, how could they get the KB so right on the budget dext/cliq but mess it up on their premium phone.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk

I just got this phone (ATT) 75$ with a new line. I Hope to room and use custom roms, but seems like can be a bad thing if dont know what your doing, i rooted and mess around with old phone HTC Inspire 4G, i did fine on that. I am scared after reading some of the forum posts, but i hate all the bloat ware that comes on stock phones. maybe some one be interested in walking me through it via teamviewer, and talking. I would give a few dollars for your time. you can add me to google, [email protected]

If all you want to do is remOve bloatware, then just root and use titanium backup to uninstall system apps. That's safe and easy.
If you want custom ROMs, then you need to unlock the bootloader, that's where you need to thread very carefully.

Will atrix rom development ever be like nexus one

Title says it all. I know we already got a rom really quick but I was currious if atrix well ever get on the nexus one level with a bunch of roms and devs? Also will there be roms that remove moto blur?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Development for the atrix won't be quite like the Nexus, since that was a dev style phone.
Also, we don't technically have a ROM as it is just the modification of system files, and not a complete flashable package.
If a Nexus One like experience is important, consider the Nexus S when it comes to AT&T.
Can't afford and iI love this phone. I just want to rid it of blur or a less laggy blurr. will it at least get roms like the vibrant?

Try installing an alternate launcher like ADW, Go Launcher, or Launcher Pro (my launcher of choice) in the meantime.
Edit: Also, Moto said somewhere they will give us the tools in the future to really play with the phone, so only time will tell. If they ever keep to that promise, then we'll have nothing stopping us from really getting ROMs and Kernels out just like any phone with an unlocked bootloader.
Im sure were getting closer. I think we have quite a few developers working on trying to unlock it. Also, DG is working very hard at it too. Once it's unlocked we should see quite a few ROMs, kernels, and themes since it is atts first major android phone and the first dual core phone out.

X2 purchase a mistake?

I bought an X2 a few weeks ago because it was available to me for $50 (yeah, I'm. Cheap). I really love it (except for the physical buttons (wtf?)) and I really wanted something larger than my Incredible. However after reading threads for a few weeks it just really seems the development for the X2 is being past over for older equipment (i.e. my Viewsonic G Tab?) & newer phones. Did I pick the wrong phone??
I'm not crazy techie, so I don't know the complexity, but the Droid, the Droid X & the Droid 2 have been cracked. Did Motorola really go to so much trouble making the X2 so different that it is much more difficult to crack or are the efforts to crack this phone being passed over for some reason? Do I just need to avoid Motorola phones in the future?
Like I said I'm not a very technical, but have contributed (donation-wise) to multiple ROMs I used on my Incredible & gTab & I just thought I would see similar flexibility on the X2 by now, so I just want to know if I need move on from the X2 or not?
The 512mb of RAM is what made me leave this phone. It requires too many hacks/scripts to even run properly.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
Yeah, I don't really run that much and I regularly see only about 3-9MB avail. ;(
I'm starting to think this is a middle of the road phone that I should have just past by & it seems the developers think so as well. Guess I should have researched more, not been so cheap & been less impatient.
Well I'm cheap, so I'll need to wait for better pricing on the latest phones, but if Motorola is going to be such a problem, then I guess I need to go with Samsung or HTC.

Agreed, they do however, run very well on any of the current available roms imo. The devs have done an excellent job of working with what we have.

The above is true. Nitro is the best thing that happened to this phone. Try eclipse out and see how you like it then.

If you don't have 4g in your area, x2 is your best bet. Im running eclipse and am more than happy to keep x2 until mid 2013 when 4g arrives in my area. If you have 4g, get something else.

The only thing that sux about this phone is not having an unlocked bootloader but with the roms we have available it runs super smooth and it's reliable and yes nitro is the best thing to happen to this phone...don't get discouraged paying 50 bucks for this dualcore phone is a steal bro...

This phone does suck for lack of actual ROMs not based on stock. However, the RAM is not as big an issue compared to other Motorola phones with 1GB (i.e. Atrix, Atrix2, Photon, Bionic, Droid RAZR) because, if I recall, their webtop service digs into that RAM anyway. It is a joke though that some of our RAM is taken up by the Tegra 2.
However, I am impressed with Tegra's hardware acceleration for web and Flash. It does seem to load web pages quickly, but I don't have other dual-core phones to compare to.

the lack of non-stock ROMs is partially because of the bootloader. The other reason is because of lack of interest.
Droid X, 2, 2 Global all still have locked bootloaders (I believe), yet a lot of custom ROMs including CyanogenMod and MIUI. Not sure if all the dual-core Motorolas are unlocked, but I know some are.

No actual ROMs huh? So a ROM isn't a ROM because it doesn't have a custom kernel? What do you call Eclipse? What do you call Liberty?

You talking about me? Or the newbs?
I was able to trade my dx2 for an incredible 2 and the difference is astounding. The dx2 has good hardware and amazing build quality but a lot of the major selling points of the phone don't mean anything. Qhd is a gimmick, as is dual-core IMO. Nothing is built to take advantage of it, including Android.
The best thing about the dx2 was the build quality and feel which is second to none. Everything about the hardware is more refined than my INC2. Eclipse is a great ROM too and makes this device worthwhile.
All in all, I think this phone has a chance at being everything that the x was but it is going to require more people to stand up.
Bottom line: if you want a phone for a specific ROM/kernel, do your research before you spend your cash. Your response to your device will be based on your expectations.
[Sent from my INC2]
The other issue, with the rate the new "bigger badder" phones are popping up, Dev's can't keep up, nor afford to buy every phone on the block. This Android runs 2.2.2, the next runs 2.3.5, the next runs 4.0.1, you get the point. These 1 man teams like Nitro are insane working on 3/4 phones at a time, and building their rom at a pace that keeps up with Android builds and hardware differences. Not to mention the continued support despite the pace of new phones being released. If you want everything under the sun, buy a phone everyone is interested in. Look how ridiculous the Galaxy Nexus forum is already and the phone was just ANNOUNCED weeks ago, not even released yet. We have what we have over here, and complaining about it doesn't help anything. Short of unlocking the BL ourselves and enticing devs by buying them the phone, we probably are not going to get more than the handful of ROMs and support we currently have.
The newly released Eclipse 1.2 and Liberty 3 RC1 are fantastic. This is how the X2 shouldve have been out of the box. Liberty final is coming soon and that'll be it till we get ICS. My phone is now almost as smooth as an iphone.
Also, use the following apps:
Go Launcher
Opera
Quickpic
ES File Explorer
ROM Toolbox
Handcent
I'm installing Eclipse 1.2 now. It looks great.

That's because it IS great and every update gets even better.
don't forget to customize your phone to make it run how you want. Don't feel limited in what this phone can do/handle.
A custom launcher can make a lot of difference in how you phone feels.
I LOVE go launcher ex. Lots of themes and home screen options. Different screen transition animation(even in app drawer..sphere animation is sick)
Right now im still using the launcher that came wit 1.2eclipse..it works smooth and looks good.
Just throwing in my 2cents but the previously mentions about just buying on cool specs is always going to backfire. And the other point about the devs not being able to keep up with the phones is the second major issue.
I got "upgraded" to the DX2 from my DX by insurance and I have run almost every rom I could. After the time I spent with my DX it was as fast as this phone is and there was way more choice of hacks and roms. I have to give serious props to Nitro, the Liberty crew and Navendrob (hope I spelled the name right) because they have done some great work. But unfortunately by the time all their hard work is finally paying off the majority of us will be on the next phone.
To bad more people can't afford to donate to devs so they can have new toys to hack on....

[Q] Atrix rom help

I just got fed up with my iphone and switched over to the atrix 4g. i was jailbroken and everything and i liked the customization i had. now i have the atrix and the standard motoblur sucks horribly. im not a social media person, so everything but the music player bugs me. I found a solution to this and it was a rom, but I already updated to 2.3.4, and all the tutorials I found were prior to this and said if you use this method you will brick your phone, and this is something I cant afford to do a poor college student, so if someone could be my savior and post a tutorial or lead me to one for the atrix 4x att 2.3.4 I would be forever indebted to you.
Check out the noob guide by swifkicks in the general section

All i care is the Solid Build cause i considered to be a bad user and its very likely to drop the phone and i want a phone can handle a bad Handler
I already have Motorola Defy but i want i a better performance and a phone equiped with 1GB ram and dual-core cpu

BUT I promise you will enjoy the i9100 more.. it is one of the most developed phones on xda and has an awesome following.. you will get better OS support and faster releases... get the i9100, invest in a nice case.., root it, and flash Resurrection Remix Rom... you will be a happy camper..

I have both phones and the s2 is way way better than the atrix 4g if not only because of the screen. I also tested both devices running cm10 tho you still don't have a proper camera or hw accel on the atrix.
now about the build quality, I always loved Motorola for this and the s2 feels like it could break with anything but with a good case and some care, you would be safe.
All in all, I would go for the s2

DNA - Few questions before i drop $500

I have been kind of looking around for a few days and i have seen people having a few issues and i have seen several roms but im hoping you guys can answer me a few questions.
Is there a SafeStrap like app that works with this phone? I am coming from a BIONIC and that was really nice to have.
Is there a vanilla android rom or is it all stock modified?
Lastly are there any known issues i should be aware of?
Thanks guys.

1)There is a DNA version of CWM and TWRP
2)not at this time
3)You should be aware that there is a high chance your phone will come with the latest update installed. At this time there is no root or Bootloader unlock for that. Be prepared to run stock sense for a bit

No vamilla roms but its being wotked on. Check original development forum. It's coming along.
As for issues i haven't experienced much but hot reboots are more common on custom roms than in previous phones. I haven't experienced it but lots of people in forum have. My previous phones are droid 3 and galaxy nexus for reference

Do you have any experience with them on the DNA? I tried using some on a phone before and it totally screwed up the phone even tho it was in the supported list.
Thanks all for the replies. So it looks like this is a pretty rock solid phone besides the audio sync issues then, or have those been resolved as well.

I had the Droid Razr and used safestrap, actually just found it in a backup folder on my laptop, anyway no "safestrap" for the DNA but yes on recovery just like safestrap. I have used both. The DNA is still a WIN phone if you can root or not. MY Razr was great and I love the DNA, no SDcard was a bummer, 16GBs is fine with me tho.
#1 thing you want to look for is the 1.15 under settings/about/software information 3rd line from the top, if you're lucky it'll say 1.15..xxxxxx if it says 2.04.605.2 710RD we are currently waiting for DEVs to figure out if they can unlock the bootloader. Now if you can buy a DNA with 1.15 you can unlock and root that on that version or unlock that version, keep the unlock.bin file then upgrade to 2.04 then unlock with that unlock.bin from 1.15 and finally root and do what you like.
If you go to Verizon to buy the phone just don't let them update it. Tell them you heard its buggy and you'll wait for the next one or what ever, tell them you won't buy it if it's updated, just don't let them update it.
Hope this helps. Its a good phone regardless.
Please! Please!
See this thread before buying a DNA or you will be VERY upset. Especially if you are paying retail!

It is not the end of the world if one cannot root, plus there is always sending it away to be JTAGGED=rooted and S-off, it's a win win situation either way.
Thanks for the info guys. Ill definitely check the version before i buy.
Didnt realize this does not have an SD card, that may be a deal breaker for me. (I need some place to store all my midget porn! :laugh
In all serious ill have to think about the no SD thing.
Also the HTC overlay is a huge turn off for me. Why do they have to make that thing so draining? Ughh. I had a friend with an HTC phone and it was night and day difference when we loaded a vanilla rom on there. Same with my HTC tablet. The Sense UI is cool looking but geez the amount of resources it sucks up is crazy.
So is the Internal storage partitioned like the BIONIC? 8 GB for os and then the other 8 for whatever?
I am coming from a BIONIC and this is the only phone that it makes sense to even consider upgrading to right now. The rest are pretty much the same specs. Dual core 1gb ram. The 2gb ram is huge for me. I hate having barely 100 mb free all the time.
After a complete, initial first boot, setting up, etc, you will have just over 11 gb to use as you please.

You'll have 11 gigs of space.
And sense isn't a huge hog, and hasn't been for over a year now. It doesn't stutter and I usually have 500 mb to a gig of free ram.

I came from a Thunderbolt which had the old Sense on it and the new Sense 4+ is a ton better in comparison. I use apex as my launcher so my home screen isn't dependent upon the limitations of any manufacturer launcher... but the HTC apps (phone, contacts, and especially mail) are all way better than stock android IMO. And I really like the Sense lock screen which has great quick launch apps.
Just my opinion and all, but if you're using the old Sense as a foundation for opinion then I would suggest checking out the new version.
Also I'd like to point out the camera on this thing... it's phenomenal. I love the ability to take full res photos while recording 1080p video.
One more point... if space is an issue I would suggest using the free SyncMe app in the play store to copy your pics and video into a folder on your PC wirelessly and on a schedule (mine runs at 4am when I'm sleeping)... then you can take them off of the phone and still have them saved. If you sync it with your Google Drive folder then all of the pics and video will still be available on your phone as well.
I hope this helps a little.
My advice.. the DNA is not worth it at this point. It is not going to have official Sense 5 support.. and it's already locked down pretty bad at the moment. Also, you are not wrong about Sense 4+ on this device. it lags and stutters at times.. I swear to god the app switching is even slower than double-clicking the home button and switching apps on the iphone!...The quad-core is probably good only if you are running quadrant scores periodically to feel happy about a "powerful" phone.. but otherwise for everyday usage.. the phone is simply not up to snuff for that kinda hype and money.
You are better off buying a Motorola Razr HD (even though it's got a ****ty camera compared to dna). ..

Who says it won't get official sense 5, it most likely will.
I have no clue how you can make this phone stutter.
And for app switching, that's why you root your phone. The sense 5 one is amazing.

I read somewhere sense 5 is only coming to butterfly (the international version of dna).. and not to dna. You can look it up.

""Also note that the Droid DNA -- essentially Verizon's version of the HTC Butterfly -- isn't specifically mentioned. Nor is any other specific U.S. version.""

They've confirmed it's coming to the butterfly, no one ever said it isn't coming to the DNA, they just never specifically mentioned it

I hope so.. but this I can guarantee.. by the time sense 5 comes to droid dna (IF at all it comes).. this phone will be seriously outdated and old.
Actually lately Verizon has been pushing out a lot of updates and this is their current flagship so I can't see why it wouldn't get sense 5.
