hi all
my cousin recommended me to use a 3g plan ..and i never had a 3g plan before ..as far aas i know 3G eats my credit very FAST!! ( lost RM14 worth of credit without me knowing ) ..but then i heard it also meant free internet
..i use a prepaid (?) which i pay RM10 to get 10 bucks worth of credit ( about 6cents for 10seconds of call and 5 cents per SMS ) i top up about twice a month ...then i heard u-mobile plan in malaysia
it SAYS rm28 a month ,,and free 3G ...quota of i think 500mb? i think...but it didn't say anything about calls and sms ...( according to my cousin )
oh and i use wifi at home...it's pretty sick ...1mbps with my ace
so ...should i get a 3G plan ?
- i am a student
- how fast does 3G drains the battery ?
-how fast is the internet speed?
-will it be available in all areas? ( 3G )
-what is this usb tethering ?

1. 3G doesnt depend whether ur student or not.. 3G means faster internet than EDGE..
2. It surely does drain battery.. But u can hav a control over it.
3. Edge means download speed-22KBps.. 3G means upto 512KBps..
4. depends on ur locality.
5. USB tethering means u use ur phone's data plan to use it thru PC in simply words phone acts like a modem..
oh...thanks but does 3G plans come with free sms and calling? ( limited of course ) like say 50 sms and 100 minutes of cal?
512kbps? That seems a little slow

what does the U28 plan means ? it's the cheapest i can get but i don't really understand what it says ..does it mean i have no free calls ?
I think u lost somewhere, i'm in malaysia to and i know what kind of person u are...
U on prepaid, so basically its like this....
If u use umobile, then u subscribe rm20 of data plan...yes it do not include call and sms!
Ok, u have rm30 of credits, u subscribe rm20 of data, balance rm10 is for your sms and call buddy! The data plan is for data only! And, if only 500mb per month i think its not enough tho~
As for me, i use celcom instanet prepaid broadband sim on my ace, yes i do not use my ace for calls and sms, instead i use ebuddy for msg, skype for calls and the rest of it for internet purpose only. I use, maybe 5gb to 10gb monthly coz i download a lot...the best part is, u can read my signature? The data thingy
Err...actually how old are u? Back to your question, this is android dude! Its like iphone thay need idata and blackberry that need BIS data for use of 3G! If u want a phone that u can just turn 3G but not take your credits...avoid android! But there u go, u on android now

I have the samsung vibrant and recently downloaded pda net so I can tether my phone. then this morning I wake to a discouraging text message that says my data has been slowed for the billing cycle. definitely a problem for me. because according to my contract I have unlimited 3g data not capped 3g. is there any way around this.

Yea I got that too but I still got 3g connection

Wrong, the contract says unlimited data. It doesn't specify a speed.

I don't think they're capping your data. They're capping your speed, slowing down your data connection. So when they say unlimited data, it still is unlimited data. I'm no longer a T-Mo customer, but from what I remember, they don't guarantee speeds.
Just so it is clear. Read your T&C for more details.
T-MobileUSA recently started enforcing data throttling. This is different from a data cap. Specifically, if you use more than 5gb of data in your billing cycle, T-mo may throttle your speed down to a slower speed. This is to discourage people from tethering their phones to their computers for internet, and push the use of their usb data rockets.
A simple google search for "tmobile data throttling" will provide you with even more information.
Yea thats right. After hitting the 5gb data usage you get that txt msg and supposedly they will throttle to a lower speed. But like I mentioned before. They didnt do that to me. So OP. Check first before you want to complain. And yes its unlimited data. Just be glad tmo doesnt charge us more for hitting past 5gb. Other carriers throttle past 2gb. I know before our cap was 10gb.

Yeah definetly must have over looked that part in a fit of I just got throttled rage
Well I think in turn all t-mobile users should tether their phones and attack data intensive sites and devour the limitless data
Hopefully they add a solution for tethering because the vibrant is due to get froyo and the ability too tether is included without apps even a 5 dollar fee to prevent throttled data would be nice

Give me a break, using >5G of data on your mobile phone is CLEARLY not using the data ON the phone, therefore they should have the right to do whatever they want to limit you at that point.
I'm sure T-Mobile has a plan that's intended to be used as your main internet connection. What you have is intended to feed your phone, not your torrents.

I don't tether or download torrents or anything like that with my data plan. I dont even download ROMs. What I do use it for is to use applications on my phone like the MediaHUB, beyondPOD and amazonMP3 and i watch tv shows, movies and pod casts and buy music. you know, like the Avatar movie that came with my phone so they could show off how great it is for doing that sort of thing.
To then throttle my speed because I use the phone to download content from apps that come installed on my phone when I bought it is bull. They claim that only 1% use over 5GB a month, but that is the same thing they said when it was at 10GB throttle point. Is that 1% counted from only the people that have unlimited data plans? do they include phones that don't have really have many apps that are data centric, like the sidekicks, blackberrys and even winmo... Are they going to throttle everyone that exceeds 5GB a month on the Galaxy S Tab too?

I don't download torrents I tether my phone to my home computer because its easier to work with a full keyboard (not too mention streaming netflix).
The fact that they cripple or cap the functionality of the data is unfair. I understand that they have a data modem that they try to promote but they shouldn't force you into its arm's.
I still ask what they will do when FroYo introduces tethering ... Will they cap everyone who exceeds the 5 gb limit

You did agree to the terms and conditions of their service, right?
It may have changed since you signed up, but here is the current one:
http://www.t-mobile.com/Templates/P...&PAsset=Ftr_Ftr_TermsAndConditions&print=true
Some of the highlights that I believe have not changed for a few years now are:
Number 1. Acceptance.
Number 5. Our Rights to Make Changes.
Unfortunately those two topics are seen with almost any provider. You can continue with T-mobile and pay less per month, or you can always go to Verizon where they (so far) haven't put a throttle in place and pay more per month.
I thought they already announced a tethering plan for an additional 15$ with the unlimited data so 40$ a month is what it still cost .well in my neck of the woods
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
T-mobile is planning on charging for tethering just like every other company is already doing..You should be happy your able to get more than 2gb unlike at&t..The cap was 10gb before they introduced Hspa+ I'm not complaining..Like i said be happy you actually have unlimited data
Wow I don't think you realise how lucky you are being capped at 5gb.... here in the UK most networks cap "unlimited" at 500mb! I'm with vodafone and I get 1gb, if I exceed that then I instantly get charged £5 per 500mb (even 1kb over and I'm charged!)

Wait...so you use your phone as your home internet connection?
Edit: Also, saying you want everyone to start tethering their phones and basically flood their network, to punish them? More than likely that would just cause them to put a data cap on their plans, like every other provider is doing. I'm on Verizon, so I don't care, but shooting yourself in the foot isn't exactly smart.

it is SOOOOO EASY to get that much data usage ON a phone. Simply just keep pandora or other internet radio constantly running along with the fact that you can multi-task and use data for other **** too and before you know it you're over 5gb

Well i have been using 2g plans at 3g speeds, what i do is recharge for rs 95/- and you get 4GB for 30days (previously 6GB for 30days), if you are near by 3g network then you get upto 7.2Mbps on docomo, this can go up to 21.1 if you have samsung galaxy s2 which supports those speeds..

I would recommend doing it from APN manager rather than from the stock settings menu. You should have more luck with that.

Good stuff bro. I got unthrottled this month using the first method by switching from atrix to note
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717
When I tried method one back on my skyrocket, using a blackberry, the blackberry data plan did not work with my android phone. Most guides tell you that you need to call and switch your data plan back to tte phone you want to use. It doesn't matter that it reverts you to the original phone, it is the fact that the throttled plan is initially removed.
Next time I get throttled I'm going to try switching data plans through the My Att apparently, which should also ttrigger the removal of the throttled data plan. Save me the hassle of having to call.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA App
Also the APN should be:
Name: whatever u want
APN: phone
APN type: internet
The separately for mms:
Name: whatever
APN: all that cingular junk
...
...
APN type: MMS
The reason it did not have a radio button for u is because you set it to only mms (which is what the guide told you to do without stating it was for mms only).

We already know that's not the case though. If AT&T forced everyone over, there would be a public outcry from 100% of the unlimited users. But right now, only 5% of those users are being hurt by this.

New data Untrottle Method
Hi, hows everyone? I was messing around and found another way to unthrottle data speeds on the at&t network. i have a motorola atrix 2 as my device and found this new technique useful as well with a few other devices. so lets get started first you must have your device rooted, second, program your device to get free tethering, after taking care of this, the last step is crucial. on the beginning of your cycle (which is on the 6 of every month i believe) connect your device to your p.c. via usb and activate usb tether. now this is crucial in order for it to work once your device is giving your p.c. internet access use up at least 7 GB of data on your pc not your device. so basically use 7 GB of data via usb tethering. a helpful tip would be to download My data manager, it helps you track how much data is being consumed during your plan cycle. after this unplug your devise from you pc and now your data speed should be at normal speed no throttle. remember do this process at the very beginning of every month of your plan cycle.

Oh yeah! What a great solution. Waste 7GB on your PC to somehow avoid throttling. And you want to know why ATT throttles?
Seeing as current data plans max at 5GB and the old unlimited offered 6GB using 7GB would push you past your limit and you would start incurring data overage charges and be screwed for the whole month.

well its what i accidentally found out while bored. my internet at home was down etc. and i remembered that i could use the tethering on my phone so i hooked it up. after watching a few movies on netflix i realized that i had gone over 7gb on my grandfathered unlimited data plan. when i disconnected my phone i realized i received no message on my phone about the 5% heavy data users and i also noticed that for the rest of my plan cycle, my data speed was unaffected. so to prove my theory i tried it again the next month and it seems to work. this is just a suggestion seeing as at&t has no right to expect me to pay unlimited data then throttle it, screw them.
Actually they do. It's in the contract you signed. Am I entitled to some of the food me and my roommates buy? Yes. Am I entitled to eat all of it? No. Stop acting like the world owes you.something.

As we all indians know, tata docomo has even stopped providing 3g network to those who have not subscribed to a 3g net plan... i was wondering if anyone has managed to break through?
2G speeds are very bad here.
Wrong section mate
Go to Carrier Discussion. No network crashing, MODs may issue a warning.
Sorry
Oh I am sorry brother . Apologies. I request the moderator to delete this thread.
Perhaps a gud news : )
I think docomo has started again giving 3g speed..I have used it 2 days ago in 3g nd many have confirmed that they have also got 3g speed..

Oh then it seems I am the one unlucky guy
is there any trick to enable 3g mode? I mean when switched to 3g, d does not show any coverage, but when I take a look at the signal values, there is a network. but somehow it does not show...
No man i didn't do anything else for getting 3g network...i just selected wcdma mode...
U can try enabling data roaming, may be that work....

hey, ive been looking for a app (can be a rooted app since i am rooted) to send wifi without making me pay for it.
so far i was using ------> code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether
it came with my ROM Ineffabilis Deus v1.2 ,does it cost anything to use?
it uses 3g/4g and not actual wifi so i dont know if it charges me or not but im fine with using 3g/4g as long as it doesn't make me pay for it
but using actual wifi would be best
any suggestions?
thanks for the help :good:
wifi tether is free as long as you have unlimited data and don't overuse use it... use at your own risk

thx
Per FCC ruling you can actually tether LTE and Verizon can't do a damn thing about it.
