Okay I am speaking mainly to Developers/Devs here
To get all the information on this issue please visit my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421341
I know this may not be in the right place to post, but I have had no luck after over two months of my thread being replied to and also being all over the internet (Droidlife, GSMARENA, phandroid etc...) so I'm trying to spread the word to ftully Fix/Solve the SMS/texting issue (Not being able to send texts) so the HTC Rezound can be a fully global phone
The suggested possible causes of the issue are either a Radio related problem, which would require porting/making a hybrid radio and also S-OFF. But the main one I am thinking sounds more worth trying for is the suggestion that the Framework is incorrect/needs a bit of tweaking and this would allow the HTC Rezound to send texts/SMS on GSM and/or HSPA networks (I use HSPA)
So please could someone willing look into this and try and fix/solve as this would be very beneficial to us all (being able to use this phone abroad/on holiday for example )
Also some people, including me, cannot connect to DATA/3G without a method which makes it 'kick in', so if this issue was also looked at it would be Great!!!

Buddy, this isn't the right forum for this thread. I assume everyone who cares about this issue has seen your thread in the general forum. This is a Verizon phone. 99.9% of the people who own this phone are Verizon customers. There are very few people who care about this issue enough to do something about it. It is very unlikely that we are going to get S-Off as we can flash roms/kernels with what we have. Plus, the work that it would take to develop a hybrid radio would probably be significant.
That said. If everything except SMS works, how about just using email to SMS your friends or a free texting app? Yes, it is not ideal, but this phone is not meant to be used over anything aside from CDMA, EvDo, and LTE.

So what you're saying, Con, is that he in fact doesn't rule as his screen name would suggest? Hmm. My world...tumbling.
And to the OP, will Google Talk work overseas? Wouldn't that be the best way since SMS doesn't work? Just a thought.

basically lol... The people who use this to the hours spent making this happen ratio would be so low it wouldn't even be funny.
Okay guys
See when I ask nicely for people willing to help, I don't expect to see people telling me why it wouldn't work or people trying to be funny? And
And I said in the post if you read properly that the possible fix I would suggest Dev's to work on would be the Framework, NOT THE RADIO PROBLEM AS WE DON'T HAVE S-OFF
And this is XDA-Developers, the place where issues no matter how small can be solved
I will ignore this and say to everyone unless its helpful/Nice ,don't post

Google Talk is available outside of the USA, I know this because there are devs and mods that I converse with using talk that live outside the states.
Also, this is in the wrong place, moving to general.

Oh sorry I was thinking of google voice ,yes I can use google talk, but people who I want to message have to have it aswell so also not very convenient
Still no takers
As stated previously by several people, no one is going to take you up on this.....the effort to use ratio is too low to make it worth it.

so i dont get what wrong ....is it the framework and port to other networks not finish or is it just frameworks to the device by it self.....

So HTC's two new 2.1 phones were rooted by Paul O'Brian, hours after he had his hands on them.
http://twitteling.com/2010/04/htc-desire-and-htc-legend-has-succeeded-in-the-root/
Apparently it was 'easy'. He is without internet and on vacation for two weeks, so no more details.
For Legend/Desire users it does not mean much yet, due to file systems being locked. However if this could be used on our 2.1 ROMs, we would be wide open.
Did we miss something simple? If you have time, and willingness please join me in looking for something simple, that could of been overlooked by both HTC and ourselves. This has been on my mind for days.
Several Desire owners have informed me that oem unlock is disabled just like our phones, so the n1 method is not what he used. I image the desire/legend kernel is somewhat close to our's. Like our's, no kernel source is available.
Any Shots are welcome.

It was posted on April 1st, its not a joke.
Long time Lurker, first time poster.
I know that the roms from HTC are signed and it would be almost imposable to hack the key used to sign the roms. However have the developers looked at it from the other direction? Do we know how the Eris stores the certificate that is used to check the signed Roms? Dose the Eris use a keystore for this and is that store shared with the web browser? Would it be possible to Inject or replace the Cert in order to sign our own roms? I'm guessing not but you never know.
I'm not a dev so its ok to flame me if this is way off base or been covered before.
Also thank to all the Dev's for all of your hard work.
Derek

well this is atleast something positive. Lets hope this guy is our savior...
I hope he's having a wonderful vacation , the dev team deserves it
Sent from my Eris using Tapatalk
@jcase: I'm thinking he just used a pre-compiled root (asroot/m7 etc), which would be the easiest possible way to do it. We have tried pretty much all known kernel sploits a hundred different ways and the Eris kernel still stands untouched. However, if these newer phones are vulnerable to the same exploits (need official word on this from Paul), then perhaps they're not patched on Eris, but are just incompatible / working not as intended.
Bounty?
Is the bounty still alive/in effect?
Chances are he doesn't own an Eris. Then again, he might not need to...
If so, well, I'd be willing to contribute to getting one into his hands.
The second build of the leak is acting up for me. I was pretty happy with the first one actually. This is what being impatient does
It'll be awesome to see how this was done as the security on the devices seems similar to ours from the limited amount I can see...
I didn't realize he still was on vacation, I assumed he waited to report his findings until he got home.

He "found" it before ever seeing one of the phones, just a leaked rom. I think its a permissions issue that we may have overlooked in 2.1.
thawkth, about 5 minutes after he releases details, I will know if it applies to us.
I don't think anyone gives a damn about the bounty, if someone does contact caboose and pay him his dues (if he wants them), he got us the root.
I know that jcase isn't really haggin with us any more so hopefully someone will be following up with this, it sounds promising. I am keeping an eye on the OP over at modaco but I am not sure that I have the knowledge base to replicate Pual's work if he shares his exploit. Thanks
I too am hoping this guy can help us.. he is our last hope imo.... short of htc leaking something again.
Well there won't be any news today as we may have thought. Paul seems to stuck on his vacation for a few extra days thanks to the volcano.

lol.. little does he know the storm of users that are anxiously awaiting his return...
I'm wondering what is the manufacturers' goal of the devices being locked. No ability to change their **** software? Possible claims from unresponsible users?
I don't understand this world...
HTC Sense is piece of crap (changed it to n1 launcher, but it still occupies my phone's storage space),
HTC apps are piece of crap (calendar sucks, majority of widgets suck)... wish i was able to uninstall them..

I dunno, the "no calls/txt/data" is a problem that is hit-or-miss when you do a hands-free-activation....root or not. It happened to me, took me under 2 minutes to have fixed by Sprint, who did it happily.
People losing 4G? I don't think this network is robust enough to blame that on root...and even if that is in an area with a rock solid 4G signal I still think there may be some user intervention at play that isn't the fault of getting s-off all by it self.
The funky "turning on, or not, or plugged in, or not, or take out battery, or sdcard, or both, or not" problems were there from the begining...I used to think it was only certain phones, but, I think it's all phones in certain conditions. Being s-off and rooted gives us the ability to put the phone into more conditions where that may or may not happen.
...and as far as battery performance is concerned it's nearly impossible to prove that it ISN'T user/application related. I'm not saying it definitely IS their fault, but, it's impossible to prove that...so many conditions vary for your phone so frequently every day even if yours do not that battery life claims are nearly impossible to prove and impossible to refute based on any changed variable all by itself....not to mention a near 100% chance of someone else reporting the exact opposite condition.
...aside from my data going slow after hands-free-activation (which is fixed in 2 minutes) I have experienced none of these problems after rooting...okay, I take that back, I have experienced the "sometimes it turns on while plugged in, sometimes it doesn't"...but, it did that before s-off/root as well.
...and let's not forget that the s-off hack likely has nothing to do with these issues. I have the eng hboot...non-hacked. Just the way god intended. If it is from anything it would be from the rooting of the ROM, which I still doubt.
Honestly, compared to the initial period after the s-off/root exploits releases for other devices this doesn't seem out of the ordinary at all...and no offense meant, but, are you new to this?
EDIT: Oh yeah, to answer your question....yes, s-off and rooting were VERY worth it to me. Now bring on the AOSP
No way. I hate having a better phone

Oh, I dont have any insurance on my new 3D phone.
Two words: User error. The problems you see are because people do not know what they are doing. Simple as that. Rooting your phone does nothing but give you permission to be able to do what you want to do with "your" phone.

Yeah, that's a really good point. I think that Sprint in general has probably been taking in a lot of new users, likely mostly smartphone users, because of the unlimited data thing...and the fact that Sprint actually has the most compelling collection of smartphones right this second IMHO. Sadly I'm thinking about jumping ship since this signal is just useless to me in most places now, and that's to say nothing of the over-loaded network.
...not to mention the droves of E4G defectors who were following the developers, and the larger and more frequent droves of defectors from every phone from the last generation that want the developer support that the E4G had but they definitely did not see...and then there are all of the people who finally got off of their contract from Heros and Moments from when they were still hot items....
...so, yeah, there is just so many goddamned people in here that I'd be surprised if there weren't more complaints on average. Contrast this to the NookColor forum where there are far more actual tricky problems but nobody blames the root method for them missing a step or not understanding a process...not to mention how god damned civil it is around there.

To me it was worth it. However I've noticed many issues are because folks don't read, can't follow instructions, make changes without knowing WHAT they are doing.
Sorry but if you don't know what changes you're making, what issues they cause, how to fix, how to undo what you screwed up, then they shouldn't be rooting, flashing and changing settings.

Hey dude, it was a joke... I read your post and that is how it looked to me.
And really?... basing the success of something on a DEVELOPERS forum's Q&A section?
I can pull up every single phones Q&A section and get just as many, probably more issues in the general dates of when they where first rooted/cracked/jailbroken.
Soooooo, chill buddy.
I was browsing thru Ebay ads and I found this guy selling a flashed and rooted EVO 3D...no big deal. After reading the AD though I really like the sounds of what must be a custom ROM. I can not place a link to the AD...but if anyone could go to ebay and search the phase below and see if anyone can identify what ROM he is likely flashing to get the features he talks about in the AD. I want that ROM for my 3D...LOL
The ebay AD header is: "NEW" HTC EVO 3D BLACK STOCK ROOTED FULLY FLASHED TO BOOSTMOBILE
Specifically these features: The built-in Native Voicemail Indicator works 100%. The built-in Native Sprint Mobile Hotspot works 100% for FREE no more ADHOC with the crappy Wireless Tethering app. The built-in Native Multimedia and SMS messaging are working 100%. The new Gingerbread keyboard works 100% and it's GREAT!!!
Either a scam or a unknown (or on the d.l. dev). To my knowledge there isn't one rom here on XDA, Android Central, or rootzwiki that has all of those features right now. Course I could've missed one or two .... I've been a bit of a flash whore here lately. Goodluck in your search I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Hello,
Before you guys throw the scam word around it would be nice if you get off your a*s and check before making stupid, derogatory comments.
The "Guy" who developed this rom is called "L"
Or DammYou08 on XDA
You could have PM'd him on eBay as he responds immedialty to PM and simply asked him.
He, by request cooks these roms for some of the bigger flashers out there.
If you have any questions about L's roms you can call
FlashedPhonesDOTnet
RobostarsDOTcom
Or you could just PM L on eBay
This is not BS Rom I have personally flashed it on over 200 Evo 3D's and it rocks!
Problem is I don't think L sells his roms unless you buy it on his phone or he loves you!

Hey guys, I currently have the Epic 4G Touch with Sprint but there is a good chance that I might jump ship and come over to AT&T. If I do, the GS2 would most likely be the phone I will get. It's gonna be tough working with such a tiny screen (lol!) but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Don't want the Skyrocket because it doesn't have an Exynos in it and the HSPA+ should be plenty fast for my needs.
Anyway, all Android phones come with their fair share of problems out of the box, what am I going to have to deal with if I get the SGS2? Any radio issues? Battery problems? Screen problems? How does AT&T handle tethering? I heard about them catching people and changing them to a hotspot plan, is that true? Also, does AT&T still block app sideloading?
I plan on rooting but remaining on the stock ROM, assuming it's as good as the Epic Touch's stock ROM. Just gonna debloat the crap out of it and use Autostarts to keep everything under control. Should I go ahead and assume that rooting it is fairly easy?
Also, how is AT&Ts customer service to work with? I have been with Sprint for many years and have gotten manipulating them down to a science. I always get the latest and greatest phones, and never have to pay more than the subsidized price. I'm kinda nervous about switching because I'm worried I won't be able to pull that crap with AT&T.
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Trust me, I've already read through a whole bunch of crap. I am just looking for some personal experiences here without having to read through page after page of meaningless drivel just to find a few simple answers.
only downside i can think of is if you drop it from the 10th floor the screen will crack... and it doesnt seem to work well in the pool.
It is a great device, only complaint i have is the non HD screen. If you are coming from a phone with high res like a iphone you will notice. If you arent coming from a high res phone you will never notice
You might have more issues with AT&T than the phone. Overall its a great phone with lots of dev support. there's a reason why AT&T is always at the bottom of the Lissy when out comes to customer services.

Most of the issues can be found by searching.
Hardware issues: Some people have had issues with the USB port breaking. Not common, but it seems that 90% of hardware failures are this.
The AP Mobile widget in UCKH7 will eat your data. If you're here I assume you'll be rooting - so not a problem for you. Kill it with fire and you're good.
The OTA update (UCKK6) sucks infected donkey balls. Lots of battery issues. Again - easy to avoid if you're here.

Ha! I post there from time to time! I was one of the Android Source admins before it merged with Android Task Force. Haven't used this profile pic on FB for a while now so you've got some good memory.
Hardware = USB problems with the connection port. Blotchy screen on dark blacks in a dark room. Not noticeable until then. It's a side-effect of SAMOLED screens. Burn-in most I can figure. These two problems are fairly rare (on this forum, I'd say 1 out of maybe 15 people complain of one or the other hardware issues).
Software: let's face it - 2.3.6 sucks. The update broke bluetooth HID devices, meaning no bluetooth keyboard or mouse. Occasional reports of wifi breaking, but that's due to the retards who never read and flash willy nilly from our sister forum and phone, the international GS2 without using the development tool Hellraiser. So, be educated man. If you don't read, you will end up ****ing your phone over, and then if you whine about it (which inevitably happens every time someone who doesn't read screws their phone up), prepare to be flamed. At that point you piss everyone who's seen your same thread or situation a hundred times from people who didn't search and read.
There are reports of battery drain issues due to 2.3.6 as well. Some of these are from programs, but if you're an Android user already, you know to kill and save RAM. I've had occasional reboots from when I pushed my phone hard, but nothing of diminishing value.
AT&T Service: Customer service sucks, so I hear. But they've always worked with me. I got them to unlock multiple phones in the past, I was grandfathered in to unlimited, and they've let me skirt waiting periods on my next update. I suppose if you're a new customer it might be different. I wouldn't know. Their service as far as phone calls and data? It ain't the best. To be honest, I don't get many dropped calls per week, but I know I get enough to remember that I get dropped calls weekly. Data can be spotty at times, but overall, in Orlando, it's fast.
My Review: moving from any other phone to this one is like being born again. You believe in technology again. Alright, so it ain't that much of a spiritual experience, but lemme tell you - this phone is fast. Yet, if you want the latest and greatest from Android, specifically 4.0.3, I'd pass on this phone. We will probably get it. Maybe. Our devs will work to make it happen, but sadly I doubt it will be an official update.
If you want solid hardware and a reliable phone however and don't mind gingerbread, this is the phone for you. It is fast, well-built, and has good battery life from my experience. I use it heavily for everything, and i get nearly 14-18 hours of heavy use (phone calls, texts, music, videos, downloads, web-surfing).
4.5 out of 5 stars for this phone from me.

Thanks for taking the time to type all that out autonomous, thats the type of response I was looking for. I am coming from Sprint's SGS2 variant so I'm well aware of how badass these phones are. I could care less about ICS, I had the Galaxy Nexus for a few weeks and returned it because I like the SGS2 + 2.3 + TouchWiz better. I'm probably gonna go to Costco over the weekend and pick it up to try it out and see how AT&Ts service in my are is.

Sprint and AT&T are in the same family with their Exynos chipset, which I'm sure you're aware of. The difference is that we are closer in relation to international. No WiMax chipset in ours, so easier porting.
AT&T is a fairly good provider. Service is decent, even out in the country, but it doesn't make you say "Man, Ma Bell is great about their connectivity everywhere."
While I told you we probably won't get an official Ice Cream update we WILL get one in one shape or form. 2.3.6 problems can be avoided by Hellraising a 2.3.4, 2.3.7 or 2.3.5 ROM. So if you want to avoid battery drain issues and use your bluetooth keyboard or mouse, you have your choices.
Bottom line brother, is with this phone you have options. We have devs, and tools that give you many options. If you're asking me if you should make the jump, I'd have to ask why, because WiMax with Exynos seems like a good setup, but if it's for a sensible reason, you could do worse than Ma Bell. If it's assurance you want, yes, this is and will be a good phone for quite a while. Yes, AT&T is decent, and yes, you will be fairly satisfied.
As a disclaimer, every experience is different, so I suggest you either look around this forum and make your mind that way, or bite the bullet and don't look back by moving to AT&T blindly, and go for the shortest contract you can.

My first I777 overheated while charging. And now my second one has a buzzing in the earpiece. Good specs and I love the TouchWiz UI. Maybe Im just unlucky but it seems the hardware in this phone has issues.

Incorrect, it has nothing to do with 2.3.6, there's no 2.3.7 Samsung roms either. It's at&t's UCKK6 build, international 2.3.6 roms aren't plagued by the issues

First, Ltevo has great developers. However, the S3 DEV community is so much bigger. I love thus phone and its functionality. But what happened to it devs and custom kernels etc?

they all ran off because of people asking stupid questions. They knew that even if they stayed, there would still be people asking why a phone with unreleased source, that's only available to one carrier in one country, has less developement and interest than a phone with released source, which is avialable to almost every carrier in almost every country throughout the world.

Even the EVO 4G had more development than this and it came from the same carrier, same source (HTC). If the Devs are out there, they sure are quiet. It's a ghost town up in here.

He sort of has a point when you look at it like that. The LTE is an updated Evo 4G on the same carrier. So following that logic you would think we would see a lot more dev's.

You can't be serious, right? It's like the glass is half full thing again...I choose to see the great development we have and not wonder why there isn't more.
Maybe ask yourself this simple question: Will I ever be satisfied?
Or maybe: Will I ever stop comparing my now to my past?

I'd rather have a handful of very good roms (which we have) than a zillion mediocre ones. You know, the whole quality over quantity thing. So I could care less how many developers we have, as long as they are good. Which they are.
You do understand that the phone is just barely what 2 months old and source wasnt fully released yet plus add in the ota just done 2 weeks ago and other factors like sense 4.0 being a p.i.a to decompile recompile and theme due to updates being needed for the tools devs use. Add all that up and id say we have amazing development going on in LTE world. Due the community a favor and this goes for everyone that feels this way please stop with these threads they do morw harm than good i.e pushing devs away from xda and sharing there work with us all. Shout out to all the devs your work is greatly appreciated by most of the community please dont think views in these threads like this as all our views and keep up the amazing work!!!
My EVO is like my flag and my flag is red SOOWOO
Can we just get threads like this closed? Seriously?
We have nearly a fully functional cm10 and this guys complaining about lack of development.
Don't know about your devs, but I'm sure there are a lot of people who have been busy working on their own projects.
Please use the Q&A fora if you wish to ask questions.
