Voice Lag / Video - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

On every movie that I try to watch on my Transformer Prime using bluetooth headphones the voices lag behind the mouth movements and it is very noticeable! These are not streamed videos from Crackle or Netflix as those work pretty good. Rather these are videos I have ripped using DVDCatalyst or HandBrake and stored either on the micro SD card or internally. I get the same results with the stock player, MX player, BS player, etc...
Is this an Asus firmware issue or are we stuck waiting on Android 4.0.4 for a bigger fix than Asus can deliver?

I don't think this is specific to the Prime. I have the same problem on my original Transformer, so much so that I just stopped trying to use Bluetooth headphones with video. I took to using wired headphones instead.

I have the exact same issue. I plug my Prime in to my stereo via HDMI or watch directly on my prime or via Wired Headphones. It works perfect, but if I use my Stereo Bluetooth headphones the voices noticably lag behind.

What power setting are you using? When I put mine on Normal I don't see any lag between the two, or it's barely noticable.

Well even if I choose the power setting mine swaps back to balanced automatically after every few minutes so I've given up on that and just leave it on balanced.

Really! I'm suprised to learn that.

Mine used to do this forever ago... Haven't seen it since manual updates and factory resets, have you ever cleared your Prime from how it shipped? Are you using anything to overclock?
On topic, as others have said this isn't specific just to the Prime. I think it's something with this particular Broadcom chip isn't it? Pretty sure I've read of ways to control delays to at least minimize these kinds of things haven't I?

[Q] (Q) problem with bluetooth audio

okay, i just picked up an atrix for free and i am giving it a try to decide between it or my inspire ...
a major issue for me though is this problem i discovered... i listen to audio books while driving back and forth to work ... i use mortplayer (but have tried other audio programs and gotten same results) ...
if i am playing the audio on the phones speaker or through headphones that are plugged in everything is okay .. but if i connect to a bluetooth audio source it will 'skip' .. about every second or second and a half it skips a very short part of the audio ... just enough to distort works and make what it is saying not understandable ...
i have searched a little bit and not ran into this mentioned (or my searching skill is worse then i thought) so i am posting this thread up in hopes that someone else may know more about this ...
for a little more information ... the audio files this is happening on are 20 min long mp3 audio ... have tried it on just normal music as well in mp3 format and get similiar results.
I was using the following all last week while travelling, and the audio was great. $50 on Newegg:
Motorola S9-HD
I was getting about 3 hours from full charge, and was using PlayerPro which I have found to be the best for my personal use out of all the players.
<edit> The built in mic also works well for phone calls. My wife could hear me clearly when using it.
i will check out player pro .. i already have bluetooths tho .. built into my car and several blue ants and jawbones ... which it does the same with all of them including the one built into car.
Also check the audio player settings to make sure there isn't an output setting which needs to be changed. It appears some people are having major problems with conflicts between their car audio controls and the music player audio controls. Sometimes the players controls tried to override the car audio controls.
ok with player pro i still have the issue though it is less .. now i only get it for a few seconds then it plays normally ... it seems to be related to it caching the audio while playing.

will have to check on that part as well ... i do not have any controls on the car audio that i use with it ... i just use the screen on the phone to play and pause and such ...

I returned a pair of HT820's (Warranty) and got the S9-HD's back from moto... they have great sound, but their range is SOME OF THE WORST. I can't walk and listen to music without it cutting out.
I imagine it is most likely a problem with the receiver, not the source. Does the audio buffer or does it just skip?

it skips about a half a second or a quarter of a second of audio ... just enough to change the words being said.
Same here. I am new to bluetooth for audio, and have a pair of S9 HD's. They worked all morning and then skipped all afternoon. Is that a sign of low battery? Also, what range can I expect?

I've heard reports of fake s9s... but mine came from moto... seems hit and miss. Moto tech support is some of the worst, took two weeks to get an rma!

Probably so. The battery life is only 2-1/2 - 3 hours on those from all the reading I did about them before I bought them. Also, turn on the SRS WoW on the headphones. It makes a huge difference to the audio imo.

The price is a good indication of cheap the Chinese imitations. If you purchase the OEM bulk Moto version they are $50 and up from reputable sellers such as Newegg, etc. If it's the cheap knock off versions, they can be had for $15-$20 on Ebay.
I mean I got mine from motorola's Rma center. My ht820s went in for warranty and I got these.
I've noticed some better use now with my atrix than my previous nokia 3600 slide. But its still not like my HT820s. Those things were big, but had like 15 hour battery life, and whole house range. Fit perfect around the neck.
I paid about 45 bucks for the ht820 on amazon (best purchase ever), but the volume would not go down after a year. Sent them in and Got s9hd back (they don't even look the same! Moto customer serivce must hate their customers)... good sound, but not enough to justify changing.

[Q] Turn SGS2 into computer headset using BT?

Not sure if this is entirely possible, but I'll try to explain it the best I can.
I have a nice big monitor and prefer watching movies/tv shows from my bed rather than sitting in front of the desk. Problem is that I don't have a good set of speakers and my headphone cord is obviously way too short.
I could fix this dilemma by feeding the sound from the computer to the phone via bluetooth and then use my headphones attached to the SGS2 to comfortably listen to the audio. I haven't been able to find any native function or app that does this yet and hoping you all can help.
My SGS2 is rooted and running gingerbread 2.3.3. I use vlc player on my computer for all video media. Tried to audio streaming over wifi, but couldn't get it to work.
Nice idea mate, and I wish you luck in finding a solution, but I also don't think you'll be happy with the result. There's an inherent delay with bluetooth, usually between 1-2 seconds. While this is fine for making calls or playing games online etc., it's VERY annoying when watching videos. Unless you have the ability to shift the audio on whatever's playing the video (like you can with VLC, for example) then it could get very old very quick.
Get a cable extension instead
Oh man, if I were you I'd order a Belkin 3 mt Audio extension cable or buy a Bluetooth headset.
Regards.

Bummer. I was really looking forward to laying back.
There's quite a bit in other sections of XDA already on this, but the most promising result seems to be from this thread.
I tried it myself, and although it works, it doesn't seem to be a solution to your problem as it introduced a lag of around 3 seconds.

[Q] Strange sound during video playback?

Is anyone else experiencing a strange warbling sound while playing back any video? I've tried playing a video recorded by the Prime as well as videos I've downloaded. I get it through the speakers and with headphones.
Edit: Tested with the stock player, the MyNet Player, and MX Video Player.
Nope, no such thing here.
Yeah, nothing here.
The sound output isn't very loud, but the quality I get from that one measly speaker ain't bad at all.

There are two speakers, just not much separation between them. Check out: http://www.anandtech.com/Gallery/Album/1619#25
So this is isolated then? Guess I'll have to do some more testing.

I have experienced that sound is sometimes decoded wrongly when HW acceleration is enabled. Try and play the videos in SW and see if the problem persists.

I can confirm this. The other day I played a new top gear episode to find it making a water noise and laggy playback. Took me a while and frustration, but it is easily fixed by changing the decoding method. You can do this in mx video player in the top right. I leave mine in s/w now...

I installed the MX Codec for ARMv7 and I have not experienced it since. Seems to be a codec issue only. Recommend trying that and see if it fixes for others in this thread. Kinda kicking myself for not thinking about that first lol.

HDMI resolution

Hi there,
I was checking the HDMI out on Xperia S and I came up with this. I changed the resoultions from 720p to 1080p , i didn't saw any difference. Does this really change the resolution of HDMI out? Anyone tried it?
The phone still outputs 720p scaled to 1080p. It just does the scaling for the tv. Duplicating a display is easy, running two would be a challenge for a phone GPU.
I tired 720p and 1080p, there was no difference i saw. my monitor is 23", maybe scaling would better work with 50". Right?

No, you misunderstand me. Its 720P either way because the screen on the phone is 720. It'll always be 720.
If you set it to 720P: Phone -720->Monitor-Upscales("stretches")-You see it.
If you set it to 1080P: Phone-Upscales-1080->Monitor-You see it.
Either way its just stretching 720p. At the same viewing distance it will look WORSE on the bigger screen. That said, I watched an SD movie with the gf the other night on a 50" tv using my XS. We were about 8 feet away and it looked fine. Using it on my desktop 22" it is kinda noticeable though. Not too bad though:
that was well explained. Thanks.

Does your TV go to 24p when you plug your phone in? I couldnt tell from your video, mine goes to 24p and has massive input lag which makes games unplayable!
Also if you play music does the equiliser have any effect on the sound? Mine has zero bass and the equiliser has no effect at all
Go to the service menu. There are advanced settings for HDMI out. You can set the resolution up to [email protected] hz.
The equalizer is an another story. It has nothing to do with equalizer. The phone applies some kind of high-pass filter for the HDMI out sound as if it thinks it plays the sound through its own external speakers. The cut-off frequency seems to be around 100 hz or so. This is some kind of software bug and I hope Sony will fix it!

Works fine. No noticeable delay. That was a monitor (Dell ST2210) so no audio(used a pair of headphones to just play in the background for the camera).
When I used it on a 50" LG TV the sound seemed fine. Was just a movie but there was some music and I didnt hear anything unusual(I'm a DJ so I'd pick up on it rather quick).
From other threads it seems that some tvs just dont play nice, try a few others and see what happens.

Well it depends on TV speakers but normally you shouldn't be able to tell the ~100hz cut-off on the tv since the TV Speakers aren't exactly made for low frequency sound
I'm connecting my phone to the Sony DA2400ES AV Receiver which in turn connected to the tv and a good sound system. I was planning on using this phone to bit stream flac's LPCM through receiver since my receiver doesn't have a way to connect a media storage. But unfortunately the sound is FUBARed

Yeah, the reset sucks My phone had .67 since the day I bought it. The sound was the same.
On a side note. To my knowledge 24hz is a standard for movies (24 frames per second) so every TV should support 24hz. But on the PC monitors it is the other way. 60hz is a standard for LCD monitor and 24hz support is optional by specifications. So yea, it is possible that the phone, being connected to the monitor, first of all tries to set 24hz and fails, then sets 60hz.
I hope there will be some way in ICS to configure audio/video output and to save those settings.
Edit: Oh! I also forgot to mention that I started a topic on the HDMI audio issue on the official Sony Xperia forum and Sony representative confirmed this behavior. He also launched an investigation! As of now I cant post links here (need 6 posts) but if you check Sony forums and search for the topic named "HDMI audio problem (high-pass filter?!)" in the "Xperia S" directory, you should easily find it! Right now it is on the second page.
For a personal point of view I let the tv handle upscaling, it seems to do it better than the phone.
As for sound, that is plain nasty on hdmi. If I use a standard 3.5 mm lead it is great, even on the tv, but yeah, hdmi is just bad. No bass, it just sounds tinny and generally low quality.

Yep 24p is for movie playback, not all sets suport it though which leaves panning scenes looking ropey on blu-rays etc.
Im playing the sound though an expensive amp and speakers via the TV of course and have no low freq at all

Yeah. Bluetooth speaker lag? (Logitech Mini Boombox)

It could just be the way it works, but I'm using the Logitech Mini Boombox with my Transformer Prime when watching movies. The only thing is there seems to be almost a 1 second sound delay which is pretty useless, is there any way to minimise this? (Such as using a custom ROM or player - I'm currently using MX Player) Cheers
What version are you on? what bluetooth speaker are you using?
I can watch videos listening on my bluetooth headphones no problem, when i tried in January to watch a movie on the bluetooth in my car like you said nearly 1 second delay.
No problem now tho, everything works great, im on stock .21.
Maybe its your player as well, maybe its the bluetooh speakers your using, could be a lot of factors give us some more info
I'm on .21 too
The speaker is the logitech mini boombox (http://www.logitech.com/en-us/1201/8725)
I'm using MX Player
Cheers
Same problem with me. I can't use my bluetooth headphones, the delay is too annoying.
idunno what to tell ya, it used to lag for me update fixed it. idunno how idunno why. wish i could be more help :/
Good question.
I got my Bluetooth headset yesterday.
It's the Creative WP 250.
Great sound but I am experiencing a delay watching mkv video on BS player as well..
Is this a common problem using BT headsets and watching video?
It's pretty useless this way.
This problem isn't unique to the Prime. But it is particulary bad on the Prime.
On the Galaxy tab 10.1 I had this problem with BT headphones in all media players except Dice.
On the Prime, I'm getting lag with everything. Dice Player, Netflix...
Wfi on Wifi off doesn't matter. Basically if I use BT headphones, I get video lag.
Its starting to really annoy me. Kind of just want a tablet to work at this point. Finally got a tablet that plays video well, and now I can't use my headphones.
No lag on my Galaxy note or my original Galaxy tab 7. Maybe the Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 chips are to blame. Going to go to Best Buy and test some of the other Tegra 3 Tablets myself and see if they have this problem. Hear lots of people claiming there is no lag on the TF300T, but I suspect some people may not notice it initially or may be more tolerant of less than perfect playback.
Dice player solved my Bluetooth speaker lag problem.
