Was at work today and put my Note carefully in a drawer in the OR. Then my nurse pulls the whole drawer out, and the whole thing falls out with my 1 day old precious Note landing on the floor as a end result. Thankfully my $5 TPU case saved the day. My heart skipped more than just a beat. Hopefully no one else scratches up their new toy.
Both notes on display at my local AT&T store had big scratches. First day on display and they were jacked up!

Probably from jealous iPhonies. Haha, just kidding. My store had a flip cover on their white display model and that was already bent. Display models get torn to crap.

That might have been me, I was seeing if my key would scratch it. lol Pretty tuff.
Dropped mine this morning. Managed to get my foot under it and reduce the fall to just a few inches. Now I hold it much more tightly. If USPS had delivered today I'd have had a case on it...
Screen is fine.

Mine was in my pocket when I reclined in my new Lazy-Boy chair. It slid out of my pocket like it was greased with butter, fell through the chair and onto the hard wood floor (OK, Pergo...). I have since ordered a rubberized case to hopefully slow it down a bit!

dropped mine right when i got home. im lucky it hit my cat and the floor. He isn't hurt and neither is my precious note. i guarantee if it hit my floor it would have cracked.
The first 30 minutes of having the phone I bought a Case & Screen protector. I remember the first day of having my infuse I got a scratch on the screen and a scratch on the side and I was so angry at myself for not protecting from day 1.
Well, I have a good story. I was washing dishes in the kitchen (you can see where this is going) and has the Note propped up on the drip edge of the counter watching basketball. I left the kitchen to ask my wife a question. When I came back no more than 15 seconds later my Note was gone!!!!!
I was like did my 4 yr old take it. No... I look down in the sink and it was in a pot I was washing that was FULL of water and my Note is at the bottom with the screen on. I grabbed it out and quickly pulled off the case and got the battery out. Dried it off and prayed it was OK.
After further inspection the Speck case it was in kept a lot of water out. None of the water marks turned red and I'm happy to report it works fine.

They were deep scratches, not very long but there. I was suprised myself. I get my note in a day or two and all I have had the in the past is iPhones. Can't wait untill it shows up.
A screen protector is the first thing I will install.

I have two cases that I use.
Case mate with the kick stand I don't use often, but have dropped my phone at least 10 times on asphalt in that case, phone is perfect
Other is the sgp case that I use daily, it's beat up but phone is still perfect.
Dropped mine prob about 5 or 6 times since Ive had it from Day it launched. No scratches yet. Dropped it twice before i got a case
No drops, no scratches, no butter

Dropped mine the first hour of ownership as I was handing it off to my mom so she can see it lol. No marks though! Case coming in the mail too
I barely touched it the first week i got it. I've never had a phone this nice, the closest I've came to a nice phone was a palm pre a year after release.
So now I've got a Rearth case and screen protector. I'm paranoid. i probably handle this phone with more care than my own kids.... ?

I actually ordered the Otterbox case for the international version with the recommendation that it does fit the AT&T version perfectly and that the upper noise cancellation mic doesn't give any grief because of the cover. We shall see what happens ...
I don't know why, but for such a flagship phone, the cases really aren't forthcoming.

I picked it up and to my amazement just a scratch on the outer corner no cracked screen. I am amazed at how sturdy this phone seems to be. That fall would have shattered my old iPhones screen. Mine fell about 5 feet onto a tile floor day after I put my Taurus bumper on. Not a scratch on the phone or bumper.
When I first got my i777, I was so scared to even touch it, it was my first nice phone other than a Palm Pre, but this is a super phone. Saw very little use until screen protector and case arrived.
It's my baby.
I did something similar fell onto parking lot bounced and hit the under carriage of my car then back to the ground again. No case or screen protector or anything. Lucky and the phone is indeed durable. It got a few scratches along the outer edges and corners but everything still works and the screen still looks great. Mine dropped while I was trying to put it in my pocket, the corner hit the ground then the screen. I expected the screen would have a lot of scratch but when I picked it up, the outer edge corner damaged and the screen have a very little scratch near the Samsung Logo. Never thought it only has those damage while my old captivate scratch by putting it with a business card in my pocket. I sold my S2 to my brother for 300 and get the international one but still miss the ATT S2. It was the best phone I've ever had, It has nothing that I could complain about. Will get another one next week because the International never gave me the same experience the ATT version did.
I will use my phone without a case. This thing has passed the thoughness test. It has fallen so many times I lost count.

No insurance, even if I did I'd only be saving $50 more dollars through Verizon, and inevitably they'd probably put that button back on it. Just preordered the otterbox defender and do not plan to have this issue again
I have the same case, and it is fairly robust. Other then an otterbox, I can't imagine there will be something much better out there for protecting the device.

Did you purchase your Note 2 using a credit card? Many credit cards have automatic protection against damage and theft for the first 3 months after purchase.
I remember buying a brand new laptop and dropping it after about a month requiring $600 of out of warranty repair. My American Express card credited back the cost of the repair, all I had to do was call them to file a claim, them submit a copy of the repair billing receipt. Just Google "**card name ** accidental damage purchase protection"
My mom is a Nurse so she gets a hefty discount on Verizon, so I transferred the money to her account. She may actually have protection on her card! I'm going to investigate. Thanks for the tip.
Also, Otterbox Defender came out today, so I should expect that in the mail around the time my Note 2 is returned.

I cannot believe the screen shattered like that with the protective plus case on from the 1.5 foot drop. I guess we all need the defender then since no matter how carefull you r bound to drop your phone at least once in the two years of ownership.

Indeed, mine progressed today to the point the screen does not register any input. I can't wait for my replacement to arrive, my old 3GS is exceptionally painful to use.
I've a chip in the plastic next to the volume rocker, and a small split where the glass casing and sides meet. Fixed by cheap case.

Agree with the others here. The phone is just too damn slick to put a case on, for me at least. I love a naked phone and will take the chance. However I try to be extremely concious and careful when taking it in and out of my pocket. If its not in there then its on my desk nice and flat nowhere near an edge lol.
I'm not gonna push my luck though. Glass back and glass front? I feel like if it hit the ground in any way shape or form its gonna break. Super slick phone but super delicate. However I wouldnt have it any other way.

I don't consider this good advice. My phone slipped out of my jacket pocket as I was taking it off and it hit the ground with a bottom corner which sent an arched crack up the bottom portion of my phone in the glass. It's not shattered or falling out of the phone, but it's still fragile.

Haven't broken the screen but the frame of this phone is crap coming from Motorola. It's hit the ground twice from less than 3 feet and has 3 rather large dents in the housing. Once was falling off the seat in my car to a rubber all season floor mat which shouldn't do crap but left a dent. I'll give samsung the nod on internal hardware but the chassis is awful. A friend of mine dropped his from about waist high onto the edge and shattered his screen.

I have a pretty extensive history with Motorola and have come to the same conclusion. I had my phone on my bed and accidentally dropped my belt on the top right corner of the phone and it left a noticeable indention. I immediately went out and bought a case for the phone even though I've never worried about one with any previous phone.

yeah the frame does suck. mine creaks lol its not fully pushed against the body. silly Samsung

Just curious, when I was researching which phone to buy I read some posts from other carrier forums that screens tend to break very easily from short distances or even in a pocket. Havent seen posts for VZ yet. Im very careful with this probably too careful

I have dent on a corner
You people are rough on phones. I've never dropped a single phone in my life, it's always first on my mind when I move around.

Not really, I'm just a careful person, takes no extra effort at all. Nothing not worth preserving a $600 phone, anyway.
i got mine last Wednesday. love it...been super careful with it and was going to get a case yesterday on lunch...when i got to work i grabbed the phone from my console and went to get out of my truck and the phone bumped the steering wheel causing it to fly out of my hand and onto the pavement i pick it up and the outer glass is complete spider webbed and cracked all down it....sucks ....since i just got it Verizon hadn't activated my insurance or some BS so now im fighting with them to get it replaced...the insurance co don't want to do it...sigh...all else fells i found these outside case with the glass(no lcd) for 12 bucks on ebay.....:crying:
i had the razr before this and have dropped it multiple times with no cracks....

wow that looks like a good case
I carry my new phones around like they're a newborn child, won't put it in a pocket that has anything else in it or near the desk/nightstand edges. It's all about minimizing risks - like not trying to carry too many things at once.
With that being said, there's a 100% chance I'll drop this phone at some point. My GS3 survived a couple major drops with a few small dents in the corner .... as much as I like the look/feel of the GS4 a million times more than the GS3, I feel like the reduced bezel size and straight/rigid edges won't be as durable.
Get a case guys!

Not at all. Been 2 years since I've dropped one. It's a little weird but I get kind of attached to technology and take care of it. I'm the kind of person that doesn't want a single scratch on my phone and I hate cases so I just don't drop anything and nothing belongs in my right pocket but my phone

I just got a Spigen Neo Hybrid case. It's slim and sexy, but now I'm concerned it won't offer much protection for anything but the shortest falls. I'll have to check out this one.
I got mine on release day, and haven't dropped it once. I carried it for a few days with no case to enjoy the slim profile of the phone. Bought an Incipio case for it and seems to do the job. Of course like I said... haven't dropped it. I plan on picking up that Neo Hybrid as well, its gorgeous! :good::highfive:
