So, my dad and I have the same phone, but he doesn't flash ROMS on his, just keeps it stock. So when I found out today that his was 3.2 or the like, and mine was 2.2.1, I wanted to go back to stock and update my phone. I did a hard factory reset, and now the phone isn't booting (home app is crashing). Many of the DL09 links I found were not working; can someone please help?

ATTENTION, THIS IS FOR TELUS FASCINATE USERS ONLY! (ANDROID 2.2 FROYO)
Okay, so the Telus Fascinate (T959D) is basically the same phone as the T-mobile Vibrant. The only thing stopping us from using Vibrant ROMs was not having the right kernel to flash on top. That is no longer the case, as supercurio has recently injected the Telus Fascinate stock 2.2 JL3 kernel with Voodoo and Clockwork Recovery for us.
So, here is a complete guide to installing Vibrant ROMs on the Telus Fascinate. I have been using Team Whiskey's Nero 5 with Voodoo enabled, 100% working. All the required files are attached.
Note: Please don't send me any messages saying "My phone broke! It's your fault!" This guide worked flawlessly for me, and you all know the risk involved in flashing your phones. There is a reason doing so voids your warranty. That being said, there should not be any issues if you simply follow the instructions correctly.
1. Use Titanium Backup to back up all apps and settings/data
2. Flash stock Telus Fascinate 2.2 ROM using Odin
****ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ARE COMING FROM A CUSTOM ROM. IF YOUR PHONE IS STILL STOCK, YOU MAY SKIP THIS STEP****
A. Download Odin (attached) and the Telus JL3 stock files
B. Open Odin, and put the files in the appropriate boxes
s1_odin_20100512.pit in "PIT"
T959TLJL3-REV03-ALL-low-CL763100.tar.md5 in "PDA"
T959TLJL3_FROYO_Phone-CL763100.tar in "PHONE"
SGH-T959D-CSC-TLSJL3.tar.md5 in "CSC"
C. Boot into download mode by turning phone off, then holding "Volume Down" while connecting the phone to the computer
D. The first "ID:COM" box should turn yellow and show a numerical COM port
E. Click "Start" and wait for it to finish and reboot, and unplug the phone after the yellow box turns green and says "PASS"
Click to collapse
3. Use SuperOneClick to root the phone
1. Download SuperOneClick v1.5.5 (attached)
2. On phone, go to Options > Applocations > Development and enable "USB Debugging"
3. Connect phone to computer, open SuperOneClick, and click "Root"
4. You should see a confirmation when it's done

5. Install your desired custom ROM using Clockwork Recovery
****MAKE SURE THAT THE ROM YOU WANT TO INSTALL DOES NOT HAVE A BOOTLOADER INCLUDED. IF IT DOES IT WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE. BROWSE THE .ZIP, AND CHECK THE "UPDATES" FOLDER, AND LOOK FOR "SBL.BIN" OR "BOOT.BIN". IF THEY EXIST, DELETE THEM AND REMOVE THE REFERENCE TO THEM (SINGLE LINE FOR EACH) IN THE "UPDATE SCRIPT" FILE, WHICH IS FOUND IN /META-INF/com/google/android/****
A. Place xxxxxxxx.zip (whichever ROM you are flashing) on internal sdcard
B. Disable any lagfixes (Follow step 6 to disable voodoo if it automatically enables with supercurio's kernel - this doesn't happen for everyone I don't think)
C. Reboot into clockwork recovery by holding "Volume Up" + "Volume Down" while turing on the phone
D. Select "install zip from sdcard"
E. Select "choose zip from sdcard"
F. Select "xxxxxxxx.zip"
G. Select "Yes - xxxxxxxx.zip"
H. Wait for installation to finish
I. Reboot
J. After full boot, wait roughly 10 minutes and reboot, this will smooth things out and eliminate any small bugs.

6. Disable Voodoo
****ONLY DO THIS IF THE ROM YOU JUST FLASHED HAS VOODOO INSTALLED & ENABLED BY DEFAULT. OTHERWISE, YOU MAY SKIP THIS STEP****
A. Reboot into clock work recovery by holding "Volume Up" + "Volume Down" while turing on the phone
B. select "voodoo lagfix"
C. Select "disable lagfix"

Well, i have supercurio's kernel flashed, with voodoo enabled.
I'm not sure which step to start at to be honest.
And i flashed the custom kernel through SGS Kernel Flasher, so do i have to flash back to stock and do this process all over again?

If you are currently running a stock ROM with supercurio's kernel, then you would jump to the part that comes after installing the stock ROM and supercurio's kernel (i.e. flashing the custom ROM). Just disable Voodoo first.
If you are currently running a custom ROM, then yes, it is recommended to go back to stock before flashing a new custom ROM. Some ROM developers have made it so that you can flash their newer versions over older versions of the same ROM, but make sure that's the case before you do so. And it's always recommended to disable Voodoo before flashing anything.

Great Post Samperlmutar;
Just one suggestion if I may, you didn't mention to boot into clockwork AFTER you flash the final final voodoo kernel so you can enable voodoo lagfix...if you want it.
I have voodoo enable and this phone is crazy fast.

You have to flash it the first time to get to clockwork recovery, then when you flash the vibrant rom the supercurio kernel will get overwrited, therefore it needs to be flashed again.

Wouldn't flashing other phone's roms brick our phone?
Unless the custom rom is compatible with supercurio's kernel. Not sure.

No. That's why I specified to use ROMs for the Vibrant, it's virtually the same phone. They work almost perfectly even if you don't flash a Telus kernel/modem. The only consistent issues with unmodified Vibrant ROMs on the Telus Fascinate are (1) Volume buttons swapped, (2) No wireless service, and (3) USB connection causes reboot. Each of these issues are fixed by flashing a compatible kernel/modem.
Can we use themes created for Nero v5?

I haven't used any themes, but they should definitely work without any problems. Themes don't affect the kernel or the modem, and those two elements are the only things that we changed from the original Vibrant ROMs.

1) I'm not so familiar with Odin. Can I use sgs kernel flasher instead?
2) If i mess up during the process, is there any method to go back to the stock?
3) Will any T-mobile vibrant rom work on telus fascinate?
4)What do they mean by remove lagfix in step 5?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

1) The steps where I say to use Odin use files made for Odin, so no...they can't be used for anything else. Download Odin from the attachments and check it out. It's really easy to use and should make perfect sense if you follow the instructions closely.
2) That's what step 2 does. If you mess up at any time, you can just perform step 2 and everything will be back to stock.
3) From my experience, yes.
4) If you started from step 1, then you don't have a lag-fix installed. This is just an extra warning for those who jumped straight to installing the ROM, that might have been running stock w/ a custom kernel already (and thus may have installed a lag-fix).
Sorry for the repost XD

1) the steps where i say to use odin use files made for odin, so no...they can't be used for anything else. Download odin from the attachments and check it out. It's really easy to use and should make perfect sense if you follow the instructions closely.

awesome!!!!! Thanks for the answers!!!
Help! I was going through the steps everything running smoothly. I installed Nero 5 from the zip, checked reboot and now I have nothing. No download mode, no recovery, nothing!
For odin, do we have to download any .pit file?
I researched about odin articles and it seems that I need the pit file. Can anyone
help me with this? Thanks!
Ok, now that people have started bricking because they aren't making sure that what they're flashing is compatible with their phones, it's time to take a few steps back and add a little caution. For all their similarities, the Vibrant and our (Telus) Fascinates are NOT the same phone.
Before you flash ANYTHING you need to first extract and examine the update script to make sure it's not flashing a bootloader or some such thing that WILL brick your phone.
What you need to do is look at the blocks (i.e. stuff under /dev/block/) it's flashing and anything outside of modem.bin and zImage (kernel) should be a red flag telling you to stay away from this ROM. In fact, if you have any Kung-Fu skills you can just replace the model and kernel files with the Telus or I9000 ones you want to use and re-sign the zip file to keep from having to flash and re-flash.
Thanks so much, I have been waiting on this since i unlocked my phone. Let the installing begin
EDIT: My phone seems to be stuck on download mode: ODIN does not want to recognize it so I cannot flash(right word?) the Stock+Voodoo-Froyo.tar file.
EDIT: FIXED: Boot into recovery mode: VOL up + VOL down. Then click reboot with power button, then immediately hold VOL down
Alright, here's the breakdown.
-I was on 2.1 Bionix Final R1
-Tried flashing beta 4 voodoo 2.1 kernel while on OCLF.
- wouldn't boot
-tried to ODIN
-Odin failed becuase i got Data Wipe Failed
-Tried the ODin that doesn't brick, didn't work, got into recovery there, and got stuck,
-tried odining the JFD after this...failed.
What do? I need my phone badly, i keep getting "Data Wiped Failed" and black screen at boot, i can get into recovery but nothing i do works...
Open odin. ALWAYS OPEN IT FIRST. Take out battery, plug into Odin, hold down volume rockers and power. Without letting go of these buttons, put the battery back in. Your phone should show up on Odin and you should be able to revert back to stock
Sent from Bionix powered vibrant! If I helped, hit the thanks button!
Try odining again, but load the 512 pit file and try checking the repartition box on the left of the screen.

This is correct, if the phone doesn't go into recovery. If it can Then:
1. Odin 1.3 or higher I use 1.7 but not real important
2. Download original Vibrant rom
3. You will need the .pit file (this is for mapping) Try using the 831 pit file if 512 is not working for you
4. you will Eugene froyo that does not brick rom.
The order is as follows:
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Download the 'True stock 2.1 firmware for the vibrant'.
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine! You will have flashed back to the original software. From there, you can do anything,
The sbl could be an issue but this should get around that problem if not then may need to use adb .
Just make sure to remove sim and sd card if you havent all ready i would get the same error when i had those two still in my phone.
please check repartition first option to check from left an dall the other two options => also two more options below like clear cms
So after installing miui I noticed my sd card became corrupt. So I reinstalled to Dl09 and re rooted to cyanogenmod 7 test build 10. My phone began starting with the corrupt sd card error mesage in cwm regarding it cant mount cache.
"E:Can't mount /cach/recovery/command"
along with log and last_log.
I look to my sd card but no files or subfolder or folders are on it! I am stuck in a bootloop but can get to download mode. But I think my usb debugging isnt on because odin isn't recognizing my phone. Anyone been having this problem?
Thanks,
Scott

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391 should fix all your problems
A fix.
I am all too familiar with this error. Follow these instructions TO THE LETTER.
1. Download: mediafire.com/?6x5utoca59et7o9 (CWM ALL.tar v2.5 red [ODIN flashable]), minus.com/m3yQWm9wg/ (Stock Gingerbread ROM), View attachment cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-BWM.zip (put on your MicroSD card), mediafire.com/?429fcpdtpckkcea (Odin v1.83), and mediafire.com/?r2mi80911vgjjjz (Atlas 2.2 pitfile).
2. Put your phone into download mode and open Odin.
3. Check repartition in Odin.
4. Click PIT and select the Atlas pit file. Click PDA and select the stock ROM.
Click start. (it will take 5 minutes)
5. Boot the phone up, then shut it down.
6. Put it into download mode and open Odin again.
7. Select CWM-ALL.tar with the PDA button and click Start.
8. Three-finger into recovery.
9. Select "chooze zip from SD card" and navigate to cwm4_fixed_for_cm7- BWM.zip. Confirm install.
10. Power off, then install custom ROM of choice.
+++NOTE: When you install a rom, the errors will return if you three-finger into CWM. ALWAYS use the shutdown menu.+++
IMPORTANT: if you want to install Teamhacksung's ICS build PLEASE contact me and I will give you instructions! It is tricky to do and you will probably mess up. This method has NOT been tested with anything besides the above ROM.
P.S: If you're in a hurry, you might be able to flash CWM4 directly through Odin (google the filename for the .tar version), but I never tried this.

First I’d like to thank everyone for all their work so far with the Verizon S4 rooting and modding. I wouldn’t be writing this if I didn’t have so much info online already. I’m standing on the shoulders of giants. Hehehe.
Here is what I ended up doing:
1) To start, download all these (ODIN, Recovery.pit File, VZWS4 root .zip, SafeStrap.apk, ME7 modules):
http://ge.tt/3ywGajs?c
2) And Stock S4 recovery .tar.MD5 here (if you need to reflash back to stock, or to unbrick)
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B8owp4iT4wQnUFdVaGp4czFmWUE&usp=sharing
3) Install Android Terminal Emulator on your phone:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm&hl=en
4) Format your SD card to exFAT using your computer.
5) Extract the RootForVZWS4.zip to your SDcard (DO NOT put it in any other folders, it must be extracted on the SD top level). Then put the SDcard back into the phone.
6) Enable Developer Mode on your phone.
7) Check USB debugging in Developer Options.
8) Allow Unknown Sources under Security.
9) Open terminal emulator and type exactly what is shown:
cd /mnt/extSdCard <-Note: there is a space after cd
./pwn
./script.sh
If you’re like me, even though you may see “Permission Denied” in a few lines, your phone is rooted. This is OK. You're rooted when you see the " $ " turn into a " # "
10) Install SafeStrap.apk from your SDcard to get the bootloader.
11) Run SafeStrap from your Apps Drawer, then choose Install Recovery (this will allow you to boot up and enter SafeStrap where you can back up your stock ROM, and install custom ROMs from your SDcard).
12) Restart and you should see a new Boot Screen – hit menu to enter Recovery
13) Backup your phone! Save to SD card!
14) Add custom ROMs to your SDcard and flash them with SafeStrap
15) Flash ME7 modules.zip
16) Wipe cache and dalvik
17) Fix permissions
18) Reboot and enjoy
*****If you brick your phone, or want to go back to stock*****
1) Enter/boot to ODIN mode (phone NOT connected to computer).
2) Plug your phone into your computer.
3) Open ODINv3.07.
4) Make sure ODIN finds your phone (Top left box will be blue with your phone ID).
5) Click the big PIT button, and find the “SCH-I545.pit” file you downloaded earlier to your computer.
6) Click the big PDA button, and find the .tar.md5 file you downloaded earlier to your computer.
7) When ODIN has finished checking the files, hit START. Wait a long time, then when your phone reboots, and the program says PASS in green, you’re back to stock.
Please let me know if any links don’t work. Hopefully you all can follow this long post.
What is the .pit file for? I have never used this when using Odin to restore to stock.

To flash back to stock....
Click the big "PIT" button, and browse for the "SCH-I545.pit" file
Click the big "PDA" button, and browse for the "COMBINATION.....tar.md5" file
ODIN will think for a minute.... then when the message reads <OSM> Leave CS... hit start
I should probably add that this ODIN flash will remove ROOT and SafeStrap too. The phone will be back to complete 100% Samsung/Verizon stock.
In SafeStrap, I've also wiped the Stock Rom slot, and installed Scotts Clean Rom there.... and it worked (Clean Rom v.1.6.0, Clean Rom Patch v.1.6.5, ME7-modules, Fix Permissions, wipe cache/dalvik)
Superoneclick hang on step 7 I'm trying to root SCH I500 Gingerbread, firmware 2.3.5 build EH03, kernel 2.6.35.7. any links that might help?
pretty sure SuperOneClick actually doesn't work on this phone. if you would like to root the stock ROM, get files from step 6 on this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070
you may want to replace the superuser app with SuperSU. also try to find the GBBootloaders, they tend to make things work better and don't erase modifications made to the system on boot. they're in that guide in step 4 i think.
Thanks

i haven't really found myself entirely satisfied with the custom ROMs out there.. i may give kitkat a shot but JB is really laggy for me, ICS had issues that were never fixed (no wifi tethering, torch doesn't work well at all, animations lag). i haven't given kitkat a shot in a while but the last time I did it was super laggy and partially broken, haven't tried the unofficial CM11 builds but i've heard good things so i'll try it-

no no no no no galaxysmtd is for the i9000 Galaxy S aka not our device. we have the fascinatemtd (assuming you have a Verizon Fascinate). fascinatemtd is the accepted name given to us by CyanogenMod. Do not flash galaxysmtd or any other roms from other Galaxy S devices (vibrantmtd, captivatemtd, etc.)!! unless you want a brick, and if you want a brick, go ahead.
if you want kitkat for this phone, browse around the Android Development forum here. there's a relatively well-developed cm11 build made by a dev called Times_infinity. there's a couple other ROMs too but that's the one that I hear works the best.
again, do not flash any galaxysmtd ROM on this phone!
also this paranoidandroid version is solid.
