Hello all,
Anybody can recommend a good reliable data counter for the droid razr?
With the built-in razr data manager my usage can go up, down, shrink, funny stuff. one morning it can be 17Mb, download some wallpapers, 30mb, and suddenly goes back to 21Mb in the evening...
...while my ISP data counter just keep climbing steadily.
And thanks for flashing my phone with a retail version, one of the useful bloatware from vendor (my rogers account) doesn't work anymore
thanks all!

Same here. Currently trying out Onavo which is free. It has a simpler UI, provides ample information about your usage and is more friendly to regular users.
3G Watchdog Pro on the other hand gives more statistics with graphs and all. But it looks a bit messy comparatively.
thanks guys!
i installed 3G watchdog and onavo.
i like the watchdog becoz i can manually set what i used so far incase i install the app mid-month-cycle, OR if my Rogers stat is different. the widget is also nice, and some says it reads the android data, so its "as accurate as any app can be", but its a really basic basic app otherwise. simple, nice, and basic.
onavo is nice and new, and i really love how it tracks each data and u can set how much ur paying for it, or for overcharge. it can also block each app from using data (wifi only) which is great. but its a fairly new app so i can't say about the accuracy, and there's no way to manually update the quota. sad...
i think im gonna keep both for now.
I've been using an app called LBE Privacy Guard. It is supposed to be an app that is basically a permissions firewall. However it does include a Data Usage bar in the notification tab and features auto reset/tracking by days and separate wifi/3g data usage. Worth a shot if you're still interested.
Cant somebody port the verizon data usage widget from the stock rom???
I really liked it on stock...worked perfect and nothing to setup and accurate
.plz somebody
Ps i did try those other two apps didnt like them at all

3g watchdog is the best
mobile counter IMO is the best and free
ok, coming back after a good few weeks:
Onavo is best. it tracks it accurately and faster than Rogers' own tracker.
and a billion times better than the crappy data manager.
it tells (and warns) u which apps is hogging, and can set restriction on use wi-fi only or not.
better than the watchdog for my use.
the nollys
you check Mobile counter? its very simple but good aplications,

So I've been reading some threads about the app JuiceDefender, and even tested it out for a few days, but before I really start working with it I was hoping to get some opinions. It appears that the major draw of the app is that it limits your data updates in order to save idle battery life. However, I generally keep an instant messaging program running (imo when it works, trillian and skype otherwise) at essentially all times. From a few tests with the app, it appears that when it turns off data updates while on idle, it also disconnects me from my chat apps, causing me to miss messages and such. Is this really just not the app for me, or is there something I'm missing? Does it really even help at all, or is it just another battery life placebo?
Thanks for any help!
The juicedefender version that is .99 allows you to set exceptions for apps when the screen is off. Unfortunately, doing so for an app like IM pretty much defeats the pupose of juicedefender as you're wifi or mobile data will need pretty consistent access

Hey, this it's my first time posting and I had a question for you guys.
Does anyone here use Lookout Mobile Security?
I've seen a lot of screenshots of homescreens and I never see the Lookout icon on the notification bar.
Is it not needed or do you guys use
something different?
Thanks for your help!

Why do you think its needed?

That's a good question. I guess I just downloaded it assuming that I need it. Is the antivirus useless then?
Also, it backs up my pictures/contacts and has the "locate phone" feature. Are there any other apps that can do this?
Thanks

Not sure I need one either, but I have BitDefender Mobile on my phone.

I used this thing for quite a while.....its great in theory. Here are the things that made me un-install it.
1) Could not locate my phone through GPS while indoors
2) website continuously said that message failed to be delivered to my phone while trying to make my device scream.....although I got every one of them and phone would not scream.
3) most importantly while doing batch updates from the market I would have to sit there and watch not only each app being downloaded and installed....but then had to wait for lookout to scan each one...which ultimately made the update process SLLLOOOOWWW.
I initially installed this just for the phone locator service but Wheres My Droid does that and it works great. IDK but maybe the paid version of Lookout is better but WAAAYYYY to expensive for a app that is technically NOT NEEDED.
I use WaveSecure... it does all the same stuff except virus protection. Everytime I've tested it, the lock has worked. I haven't tested the remote wipe feature. Also, I have it set so that once a day, it will backup all my pictures and sms and whatever else it offers backup for. That way, if I have to wipe it, I'll have all my stuff.
I used it for a while on my captivate. I stopped using it because when ever I had it installed the market would stall periodically. It would sit and say it was downloading something. Clearing the market didn't help, but uninstalling lookout would.
I use Google+ to auto upload my pictures, and SMS backup+ to back up SMS and call logs to my gmail account.
I never tried the locate, scream or wipe features so I don't miss them. I did notice WP7 included them built in, and worked well. Apple has integrated some now too. I think its only a matter of time before Google does the same.

hi all,
I'm not sure which thread should I post my problem since its related to apps then I throw my question here.
I have been trying to keep track of my data usage, its seems that all of apps available manage to show only wifi traffic but not 3g traffic. even I tried to used apps that I used to have also not giving any result.
is it because the apps was design for android v2 not v3?
the data usage show extremely low..

3g Watch Do is the perfect solution, & it works good for me...
Def go with "My Data manager" it is the best on the market acurate and has a handy small widget.
I personally use "SPB Wireless Monitor" on my tab and also on my Galaxy S+ and it works perfectly.
I really like the AT&T communication manager app that comes on the 4g version. It tracks usage real time, including tethering, and syncs with the biller every 6 hours. Unfortunately, they will not have a market version until later this year.

I haven't really debugged what it is but i know ever since I "roughly" installed this app my battery life is cut in half. I never go in deep sleep much anymore and im left in 100Mhz range mostly.
Anyone else seeing a difference? (hopefully its not this app because it seems extremely useful)

It's not affecting my battery life at all. I used to use avast anti-theft; I simply replaced that with this one.
dang that sucks...I missed it by less than a day...that is kind of messed up though when you say something ends on that day it is usually 11:59pm of that day not 12:01am of that day...I call shenanigans.
Edit: I see it was set for GMT, son of a!!! - only missed it by a few minutes.
switch phones?
I did this when I had an atrix and recently purchased a SGS2. Does the license transfer to my new phone when I download the app from Play?
This sounds A LOT like the built-in Samsung Dive service... Except you have to pay for a subscription.
EDIT: For more information click on the link in my sig for ShishirROM... I think I have the only ROM that has Dive still built-in. It supports nearly everything Cerberus supports and it's free and built-in to the phone.
I was just looking at this app in ROM manager
They tout it as anti theft app but honestly this app gives unprecedented access to your device from the web. If you, like most people here, rooted your device via an exploit, you probably have an insecure boot.
You know with that situation someone could hijack your phone while you are using it and hide all their processes in the background so that they never even show up. Like a Trojan on a PC. This thing can make phone calls and send text messages from the web, how is that added functionality?
It would only take one wrong touch and this app could totally destroy your device...

I've used this app since it was first released, before it was available on the Market. Perhaps I'm naive, but I think that using good, standard security practices should keep one safe from what you envision. I only access the web interface from known, secure computers and I use a very strong password. Cerberus also has options to install it as a system app and to hide it from the app drawer.
Like on say, miui roms and other actually smart phones? something to make this bloody phone only actually use data when needed- if i get or send mms, only if i open browser, etc

I'm not familiar with MIUI but it's possible to create profiles with Tasker. It's capable of pretty much anything (activate data when a specific app opens, for example). Think I remember seeing someone do some stuff with MMS too. It can definitely be done.
Your phone IS only pulling data when needed. You and your phone just disagree on what constitutes a "need".
Are you on ICS or GB? Figure out what app is pulling the data. ICS data usage will show you, and let you disable the usage by app. GB will let you turn off background data in a blanket setting. On GB you can get an app like My Data Manager to see what app is using the data.
Juice Defender has settings too to disable data when your screen is off and such. But it's commonly believed to actually decrease battery life, especially the task killing aspect of it.
Sent from my Galaxy S II
Im on GB, ICS pissed me off to no end at the moment. Guess ill look into tasker.
Android devices are the only ones I've noticed to be unable to just idle properly on their own, but right now im in magical land of Japan where using Nokia is too problematic.
Hmm, good enough unless tasker will eat more battery than active data connection
