I struggled like I was trying to last a long time with my first encounter with my first girlfriend. I tried all kind of techniques thinking of rooting while I was in the act, side loading my attention, direct adb insertion, and many times I would make it through to or three steps only to be rejected by her.
I finally found, what I believe to be the best and easiest method of rooting and unbranding. I don't know who could mess this up, although try at your own risk.
this is only instructions on how I rooted, I take no credit for the applications and resources
I downloaded the file from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711907
ran only step one in boot mode, this only needs the seus drivers, no other drivers needed.
go onto boot load and quickly start step one. when it is done, reboot, set up, go to settings applications and check of unknown sources. Now grab the one click root apk found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7913568&postcount=338.
put the apk in a folder on your sd card, use any explorer to go to the apk and click, install, presto you are now rooted. Don't forget to get superuser from the market.
If you have trouble getting internet data, just go to wireless controls, mobile networks, auto internet settings.
Hope this helps the tons of people that get stuck rooting like I did.
Not at home, can't try it.
Has anyone already?

If you're just rooting all you need is the app, if you're debranding run step 1 in flash mode, but you then need to then run SEUS to update the software. If you wanna do both do the above in reverse order.

dude you've got serious issues. anyways glad that it worked for you but to be honest, WTF???
Hi, i am new in this forum so I may be like the noob you guys talked about in the first video, also i am not american so sorry for my english.
Yesterday i decided to play around with my phone, an optimus one with official rom froyo. I rooted it and then unrooted it because i realized that the official gingerbread room was out. After a few unsuccesful attempts of updating it from kdz (emergency mode, unplugged, took off battery, almost crying for my phone) when I turned it on it was okay, running gingerbread 2.3.3
I downloaded the rom from this website http://androidve.com/2011/05/como-instalar-software-original-en-lg-optimus-one-kdz-oficial-digitel-en-exclusiva/ and I thought everything was fine until the moment i realized that it wasn't what i expected. I wanted to install this rom because of a video I saw in youtube and i followed the link and it took me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354. I read the thread and some of its post and decided that i want that rom.
Now, i have gingerbread and i know it can be rooted in a way i dont know anything about, i want to learn it. But my question is... If i already have gingerbread, do i need to downgrade to froyo to install the cROM of mik? or can i do it directly from a rooted gingerbread? if it is possible, can you please guide me on how to do it or give me a tutorial? I already looked for them and actually found some of them but because of the incidente of the last day i am scared of trying this stuff alone and i would really aprreciate your advice.
Thank you. (Sorry for the essay :S)
There are already threads on how to do this. Also if you are to flash mik's rom then you have to flash old baseband since you have official gingy.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142105
After rooting to install a custom rom download rom manager from the market, choose rom from sd card, then choose backup rom and wipe data and cache. Then flash all neccessary zips you need after install.

thanks for answering.
In adb (this means in cdm/total commander mentioned in Link 1 at "How to Use ADB"):
adb devices
adb shell
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
After that open SuperOneClick and root using pneuter. Reboot phone and update Superuser from Market.

Ill follow that, but where can i get superoneclick and pneuter?
I am guessing that to flash is to install, how do i do that? like an app from the sd?

Super1 click:

Psneuter is just the method process to root(select in super1 click)
To flash things go to rom manager and choose flash clockworkmod recovery. After that any thing you need to flash can be done easily in recovery.

You need to flash new baseband patch here:
http://www.multiupload.com/R9CEDO2HS9
Put zip on sdcard then go to rom manager and select boot into recovery
In recovery select install zip from sdcard, select the baseband fix and choose yes to install.

Man almost everyone on this site is rooted.... im just to scared of bricking my phone!
I was scared too, but after a few near-brick experiences i decided to give it a try. I even decided to go back to gingerbread with root because i wasnt able to call and all that stuff, and i was really freaked out when i was looking for a way to go back because my questions was not completely answered and i felt insecure. So i decided to give up for a while and then i realized i had made a backup from my ''gingy'' with the rom manager, and i thought it would restore my data and all that stuff but it actually took me back to gingerbread which was a relief for me.
Now that infiniterisen gave me the answer to my signal/service issue, i might try to do it again, because even though i was really scared while checking that i had no service, my android looked really cool and was smooth as baby skin
I cannot tell you to try to root it because if something goes wrong you would be completely free to blame me and because i am also new to this scene, but it is really cool and i personally like to try new stuff (even though i may cry if my O1 gets bircked)
I didn't realise I would lose the 'Root' after updating to 3.2. I have retried 3 times, I guess rooting the SGT after the 3.2 update is not possible yet? Does anyone know, if it is/will be possible soon? I just need it for the adhoc wireless. Any help appreciated, TIA, Neil
Certainly possible, look in the development section / sticky threads

Just follow the same method that you used to root before 3.2. It will work.
OK, clearly it does work for some, not for me, not it the three attempts so far. Of course, I did follow the tutorial from here as that's what I used before, problem is, it just hasn't worked. I actually did the whole thing from scratch, following step by step and everything seemed to be OK, I got the 'I only have one speed' message at the end of the root, rebooted but it simply didn't have any effect, I am not rooted. This is what lead me to believe that it must be something to do with the update. I'll give it another go. It all seemed so easy last time.
Cheers, Neil.
It has worked now. Off to try and find out if there's another, newer wpa_supplicant file now as that bit, the only bit I want, isn't working. Sigh!
Why doesn't it all just work?
You say : "it has worked" so it works.
Sometimes, the system doen't find properly the root.
Try to open superuser first then your soft you want root.
You can also try to update su in options menu (maybe this option is only for elite version?)
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Hello there,
I want to root my phone (for the very first time) to make a backup and then install the ressurection remix 1.0 rom.
But i keep hitting walls.
The first method i tried was the zergling method, but it seems that is not possible because i got 2.3.6. I didnt get the superuser app anyway.
Then i started doing the other method described here http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2/#comment-3262
But it asks you to write down your kernelnumber and then download that kernel + insecure kernel. And my kernel is not among the list?
http://hotfile.com/list/1967350/4304d29
Can I use another kernel from this download list? Or is there a place where i can download the correct files?
Nevermind I kinda failed there
Anyway you can check out CF-Root which is a kernel you can flash through Odin for instant root.
Kernel is 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKK2 (gingerbread)
There is a kernel called XWKK5 also in that list, can i use that? What's the worste thing that can happen if i pick the wrong one?
The best way to root your phone is with a CF-Root kernel using Odin. The kernel you want is here,
http://download.chainfire.eu/53/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KK2-v5.0-CWM5.zip
To find out why just read this page,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Unzip it and put it in PDA in Odin and hit START without selecting anything else.It will take about 3 seconds.
EDIT:about your last post.Choosing the wrong kernel will/could brick your phone.
To be honest I've flashed about 30 different kernels through rooting, there's not much large consequences except maybe a bootloop but a restore through Odin can fix that
True.If its one thats close to the one your on then your pretty much o.k. and if you ask on the forum you can always find a close fitting kernel anyway.
Yay guys I did it, I used the CF root method posted here so thanks for the tip! And it all works out great, i got ressurection 1.0 installed now and runs as a dream so far!
Thanks im so happy i did this it seemed so daunting and complex at first but once it was all over it was much easier then it seemed.

No worries mate.True that at first its a bit to much to take in and your also scared of BRICKING...your phone but its not that hard in the end
Hello, I just got a Samsung Galaxy S2 from a friend (Stock firmware GB 2.3.3)
For some reason I am not able to establish a connection between the phone and the PC.
I tried to install and reinstall Kies and/or the drivers multiple times (and everyone of the other suggestions i found with google) but with no success. The phone recognizes that it's been charged when the cable is plugged in and sometimes the phone even indicates that it's establishing a connection to kies (but this appears randomly, not always). On the PC there's no sign of any connection to the phone, neither Kies connects to it nor the phone is shown as any kind of device in the device-manager or in explorer ("adb devices" and Odin also don't recognize the phone).
Since my fathers S2 (2.3.6 Stock Firmware) connects fine with the same drivers and cable i finally gave up searching for any any other possible reason than a damaged connector on the phone.
So i tried to search for ways to root the phone, put CWM on it and a custom ROM without any PC connection.
I encountered some things like signed custom kernels that should grant you root access, an exploitation, ...
The exploitation didn't work out for my phone, and the kernels I've found are for Jellybean or ICS, so not suitable for my Gingerbread-Firmware,
I've found some older threads on various websites that promised such kernels for Gingerbread, but there were either dead links or nothing suitable for my phone.
So now I'd like to ask the community if anyone knows any signed kernel to gain root access for my phone, or any other way to accomplish my task of upgrading to a custom firmware, or if there's no possible way to do this and I should stop wasting m time on this...
(btw, for some reason the update of the firmware via WiFi doesn't work either, so I would be glad if anyone just knows a way to upgrade to a newer stock-firmware)
My phone:
model: GT-I9100
Android: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9100NEKD5
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE1-CL181974
Buildnr.: GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
thank you all in advance
Can you download and install the latest version of Odin and check if it recognises that your phone is connected?
Let me know

You can try ExynosAbuse ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297) for rooting; not sure if it works for gingerbread though.
Once you're rooted you should be able to flash cwm with MobileOdinPro (costs 5 bucks; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro)

Try these:
Boot to recovery and factory reset (backup any pics etc if required)
Set debugging in usb access
Try other usb ports on the pc.
I wanted the same thing untill it took me 2 weeks to decide I wanted to flash in odin. Swapping to a different port gave me access.
Good luck.

This is what I tried too and for me it didn't work. I got the same problem as TO. I'm going to try some more stuff and if it would work i'll let you know and will follow this.
ps. I even have switched the board inside with the micro usb connector. Didn't work. I am on 4.0.4.
I already tried if Odin recognizes my phone -> no success...
I also tried ExynosAbuse before, it tells me when I start the app made by chainfire, that my device is unable to be rooted via this method.
And I've already tried to connect through every single port on every single computer that's available to me, still no success...
The only chance a can see right now might be to find a signed kernel that gives me root-access via the "install update from SD card" function, I've already found a few, but none of them was suitable for my device...
The problem is that this firmware apparently is that "old", that most of the results when searching for this topic are JB or ICS-related.

You really gotta get your device rooted and flashed (mobile odin pro might is a good choice)
Don't you have an External SD card? if not, I'm sure you know someone who does.
Once you get it, you can get your device rooted & flash whatever you want via recovery.
And remember, you can always say to your dad "hey old man, how about this: I give you my phone, and you give me yours".

Yes, I do have an external SD card, but as far as I know, to flash your phone via MobileOdin it needs root access, and I still haven't figured out how to grant my applications root access on this device without any PC connection... I haven't found any useable kernel/update yet that helps me with my problem and can be installed without the phone being rooted already... If you know one, I would be glad if you could tell me
I already tried to negotiate with my dad but he doesnt seem very cooperative. He didn't like the fact that my phone has an older firmware than his and that I haven't found a way to update it... (Somehow the firmware-update via WiFi doesn't work too, it tells me everytime that the phone failed to connect to the server)

lol, okay, stop and read for a min.
You can root your device with that SD card.
Read this guy's method.
After you root it, you're up for some flashing.
But take it one step at the time.
If we get you to flash a nice looking ROM, your dad's gonna say something like this "hey, that's a nice looking OS you got there, how about I give you mine + 100 bucks"
About the OTA (over the air) update, I recall reading something about it. I'ma see if I can find a thread about that.
Also, you might like to try removing kies from your system (every last trace of it) and reinstalling the latest version. Then try connecting the phone again.

Quantity rather than quality lol.
Yes, this method doesn't work on GB, I've tried this before with a huge load of different CWM-bootloaders from a lot of different sources and it always throws an "signature verification failed" or "failed to verify whole-file signature" error or both...
Isn't there any similar way to do this on GB? I've been an iPhone user for a few years now and didn't check the android hacking/modding community very often and because of this I'm not aware of any rooting methods that may have been available back then...
All you need to do is use the exynos exploit to gain root. You can do this via a simple apk.
Once you have root install Mobile Odin and flash Siyah kernel (.tar) to get custom kernel, cwm recovery etc.
Then you're off! Just reboot into recovery and wipe/flash away :good:

Unfortunately the ExynosAbuse-method isn't an option for me neither...
EDIT:
found this in the changelog of ExynosAbuse (added in v1.20):
- Gingerbread-related fixes - note that not all Gingerbread firmwares of affected devices are vulnerable (for example, I know several SGS2 GB firmwares are not exploitable)
I think that unfortunately I have one of those firmwares...
What about changing the usb board.
If nothing else works this will be my last option in the end i guess, but I'd rather prefer a software-based solution because I assume it might be a bit cheaper
Looks like your only option to me.
try this
open the phone dialer
enter *#7284#
then make sure your phone is set to usb mode
you can try switching it to modem or the other option then reboot phone
then enter code again and pick usb option
you might need to reboot again
I had a problem in the past where USB would not connect and when I did the above it worked.

You, Sir, are my personal hero from now on I couldn't really try by now if this solved the problem with the USB-connection, but somehow it solved the problem with the firmware-update per WiFi, and now I was able to update to the newest ICS-firmware available to my device. And hopefully I will be able to root it now with one of the signed kernels available for ICS-firmware
