The boys at Engadget just gush about the multitouch keyboard on the Droid X, and now I hear the Nexus S has a multitouch keyboard. Would it be possible to grab either one for the Vibrant?
Not sure if it's the same but I personally adore this keyboard:

No, that's HTC's Sense keyboard, but no its not the same and not even multitouch. Currently I use the SwiftKey keyboard, its text predictions are awesome! But would love to try out a multitouch keyboard.
Gingerbread keyboard forever

Yes there is a port of the Nexus S keyboard. Look for MTM Keyboard under Vibrant Themes & Apps. Im pretty sure you need to be running Froyo to use it though.
The Gingerbread KB is in the Apps section for the Vibrant (and also in the Development section).
It IS the best MT keyboard for our phones out right now. I am an avid swype user and it almost made me switch.....
I may get Tasker so I can use Swype in Portrait and use GB MT KB when in landscape....
Actually, here you go:

Thanks but awww I'm not running a 2.2 rom, in fact I gave up on custom roms. i was getting too ORD and constantly missing calls and texts. *sigh*

^ awesome, thank you.
I'm not sure when or what custom froyo you were running, but I have had zilch for issues lately... very stable.
Try the new Nero or Eugenes Ginger Clone... if your disorder can handle it.
worst case, ODIN back to stock and enjoy mediocracy, haha, jk.
The latest version of SwiftKey in the market includes new multitouch support!
http://www.swiftkey.net/blog/
I picked up SwiftKey for $0.99 during the launch special, but to be honest I'd pay full price for it in a heartbeat. Fantastic keyboard.
Some of the default settings can throw you off a little bit (like the space bar ending a sentence) but they can be easily toggled off.

Wow it does, I installed the latest update, also got it back during the 99 cent pre release special, and but have given up SwiftKey for first Ultrakeyboard then lately the Gingerbread KB. The prediction on SwiftKey is phenomenal, but I don't like the white theme and that's it. Once I can theme this thing or get something darker I think I'll come back to it.

I know the SwiftKey devs said they were working on theme support a few months back. Hopefully it will show up in the next update or two.

Yeah I read that in their q&a when it was still beta, bought it knowing it would sit in the background for a while, waiting for that elusive theming. That's the reason I stuck with Ultra for a while, you can completely customize your own theme, plus it has a nice tracing function similar to swype, a scrollable toolbar, a ton of other settings, and multitouch.

The Droid X keyboard got ported out shortly after the phone launched and should work on all devices running 2.1.
Just do a google search for Droid X keyboard apk and you should find right away
Can someone pull the apk off their matrix so I can port that keyboard to my Inspire please? I tried my friends keyboard on his atrix and it blows the Inspire's keyboard out of the water.
Sent from my Desire HD/Inspire or whatever the XDA App calls it.
Can someone please load this keyboard for me?
I didn't like the atrix keyboard, im using gingerbread keyboard dled off the market.
atrix "multitouch" keyboard works so much better than the GB one due to the limitations of only 2 finger multitouch support
Just out curiousity, what is the advantage of a multitouch keyboard? i cant think of a moment when you need to hold down more than two keys, at least for a phone, unless there are functionalities about multitouch keyboards that i dont realize.

2 things I can think of is faster typing because it doesn't hang on the "last key pressed" and you don't have to "lock" the caps lock.
I used to be a fan of the GB keyboard on the market when I had my Nexus One, but the multitouch keyboard on the Atrix blows it away...I can type just as fast as I did when I had an iPhone back in the days.
Sorry to bring an old thread back to life but can someone port Motorola Multi-touch keyboard for CM7? I have tried every keyboard but the best keyboard that works for my fat fingers is Motorola Keyboard.
Thank you in advance

I second this request. I've tried 6 or 7 keyboards and none have worked as well for me as the Moto keyboard.
I am glad someone is on the same page as me.
I tried copying LatimeIME.apk and lib file for latinime to the beta.zip to replace the keyboard that's in there to see if it will install that keyboard. Signed using Sign+ and once I installed the rom, I had no keyboard at all! I kept trying to tap on text message box but nothing popped open from bottom so I am stuck on CM7 with CM7 keyboard. I keep going back and forth between roms just coz of the keyboard
I grabbed ThumbKeyboard 4 from Amazon a few days ago when it was the free app of the day. I changed the lanscape size to
120% and to be honest, its damn near identical to the moto keyboard. One major exception being that all the punctuation marks are in plain sight without having to hit the 123 key. I loved the blur mtkeyboard, but ThumbKeyboard is superior in every way.

+1. i tried it out today. and now i replaced my motorola keyboard too.
heres a quick adjustment for those looking for something like the motorola one...
Thumb keyboard, portrait 115%, landscape 120%. Groovy.
Bump, Does anyone have a backup of the Stock motorola keyboard? Im currently on CM7
Or know if the gingberblur keyboard restore file is safe to flash on Gingerbread ?
Did a quick sesrch and didnt find anything on it here, so im not sure if its been discussed here or not. I paid for a new keyboard tonight that i must say is pretty awesome for our Streaks, and i woild reccommend it. Thumb Keyboard. It is quite customizable with different variations, themes, and ability to even change letter sizes. It will take a bit of getting used to if you choose the split screen option as i have, but all in all its pretty sweet. Give it a looksee.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
Just installed this app too and I'm loving its 5" split keyboard layout.
I have been using it for a while now. I stick to standard keyboards for my setup.
Sent from The SuperStreak!
I've been using it for quite a while now too, and really love that the new update brought multi-touch (before I would seriously screw up words here and there because multiple fingers would confuse it).
Thumb Keyboard just needs one thing
I'm loving it...
Before I was using the Swype keyboard because of the size of the buttons and I really didn't like the Gingerbread keyboard or the ANdroid....
The Thumb Keyboard only needs one minor little tweak which is the way it handles full screen input... I don't like for it to take up the whole screen so I have it set not to, but sometimes then I can't see the box I'm typing into because it gets stuck behind the keyboard...
Beyond that I have no complaints
I've been using TK since January with no problems. However, the update from yesterday V4.1 causes FCs every 5-6 SECONDS following reboot until uninstall and reinstall of 3.02. I have been in contact with Paul (developer) for past week.
Anyone else having this problem? It only happens if I reboot. From install to reboot it works perfectly.
StreakDroid 1.9.0 New Engineered BB
Im using 4.0 and the only issue i have is that the "a" button gives me double a's all the time. Weird, and annoying. Otherwise im liking this keyboard a lot.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
My keyboard of choice as well. Cheap, lots of updates and development. Awesome customization, themes...
Just another app to make the Streak awesomer!
TK v4.1 is now working perfectly for me. Much better build than 4.0.
Everything I downloaded from the market this past week had a problem installing. Market ran slow and fc'd constantly. That cleared up yesterday. I re-downloaded all of my updates from last week and everything installed correctly and runs perfectly!

I had the same issue. Doing a Screen Calibration on Recovery Mode (power + up + down buttons) fixed it.
To everyone using Thumb Keyboard -- is it just me or the latest version is a little bit slow/laggy?
As I said above, v4.1 is much better than v4.0.
I only notice a lag when posting on certain forum esp. Pocketables Dell Streak Forum. Otherwise, no lag.
Developer e-mailed me that a new version will be out soon to correct the number pad bug.

Am running 4.1.2, and loving it by the way, 5" inch goodness and both thumbs going, just drives the wife crazy (one small enjoyment since she has been driving me crazy for 26 years on pretty regular basis) Anyways is beansoft going to update to 4.1.3 or is 4.1.2 the update?
4.1.2 is the most current. I don't know what the next version will be numbered. Could be 4.1.3 or he may skip some versions before releasing the update.
I've had the SGS II for about three weeks now and have continuous issues with keyboard input accuracy. From the Samsung and stock Android keyboard, to the ICS hacked version (and then the Market version) as well as Swiftkey X - I make mistake after mistake regardless of whichever one I'm using. I'm coming from a Captivate where the text input seemed a non-issue on any keyboard I used. It almost feels like the touch panel/digitizer isn't aligned with where my fingers are touching.
Does anyone else have issues with keyboard accuracy? I love this phone but this issue is really preventing me from enjoying the experience.
I'd highly recommend the ICS keyboard linked later in this thread. Much better than what I initially posted.
Swiftkey X works perfectly fine for me.
I'm using the ported ICS keyboard found on the market and it works very well. There have not been any problems for me at all.
Just installed it and I find myself making the same mistakes as any of the other ones. It's so weird...I've never had this problem on the Captivate and other phones in the past.

Happy camper here
I see a couple ICS keyboards on the Market, can ya provide a link? I'm always up for finding something new although as I mentioned already, I like SKP.
I am using go keyboard from the market with go launcher and I noticed the button( keys) are bigger. But honestly I don't have any issues with my keyboard calibration works fine. I sometimes not a wrong key but that is my fault and not a calibration issue. Possibly you can calibrate your screen? Never have done it but I think it can be done. Maybe a bad phone also?

I was able to eliminate this problem by loading the cognition rom. Im not sure exactly why it fixed it but i assume it because it is an international rom that was ported.
im using the swype beta 3.6 doesnt really need to be "accurate" since all you do is "swype" it. but it is fairly accurate for me if i have to type with it.
I'm using the swype keyboard on mine Galaxy S2, I am a new convert from the iPhone and can barely type on this thing. Thank God for swipe. It appears to me that i have to hit the upper portion of the key to make an accurate key press. If I hit it dead on I get the key below it, strange.

ICS keyboard form the market is awesome, fast and extremely accurate. I havent had any more keyboard problems.
I use the newest update of Swype and its definitely not as smooth and accurate as it was on my cappy. I'm On my second sgs2, and have had accuracy issues on both. It's not horrible, just not as good as my cappy. It's the only thing that was better on my cappy compared to this phone, so I'll deal with it.

Yes.. flashing a rom and having no earthly idea why it just magically fixed is quite a solution! Let me jjust drop everything I'm doing, lose all of my time and effort of making my current rom the way i want it so I can flash the rom you are assuming fixed it without any facts or reasoning so I can make you happy.

Yes, it seems like you have to hit the letter you want about 2mm high. At first I thought it was because I was converting over from the iPhone, but two months later I still had problems. I have kind of retrained to hit the buttons on the upper half. I am going to try the ICS keyboard.
And a goodnight too.
I know I read that kernel sources are not yet released for this to happen, is that still the case ? I really miss my buttons on the view, I`m cool with everything else, but I keep pressing it.
Ok I guess I have to be a bit more clear I'm reffering to HC on view and how the disabled hardware buttons and I was told we need kernel source in order to do this
Yes, if you visit http://htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
You will see that only kernels for Gingerbread are released.

That's one reason I'm not going to apply the Honeycomb update to my Flyer. I like the touch buttons on the bezel and those would be lost if I apply the Honeycomb update. Gingerbread is running very well, I will just keep it at that for now.
HW buttons are the main reason why i went back to GB, you also lose screen real estate with HC. But the pen works everywhere on HC. But the main thing is you lose 1/2 inch of screen space for HC buttons.
Yeah HC is not bad and ability to use pen everywhere is great. But I do want the buttons back
Honestly I really don't mind the buttons being missing. I think its cool that HTC put 2 sets of them, and pretty much made they completly invisible when you aren't using them, but honeycomb doesn't need them so why should they be there?

Yeah it needs it. It would be much better with out the bar !
The bar is a bit annoying. I really figured google had come up with a way for the bar to not display when the whole screen was needed. Guess not. Fail.
Really its not hard to fix it either. Simply just make the bar appear when you hit the volume rocker. Hopefully ICS fixed this.
You can have the HW buttons on HC if you are rooted and are using a rom that alows you so. I hate the new bar, but it's a price i'm willing to pay to have the pen working everywhere.

Not on the view yet, sadly. HTC still hasn't released the honeycomb source (unless they did this weekend, and no one mentioned it yet)
