Please be courteous and tasteful in your responses to this thread. I only want to show support for our phone and spread the good word.
I'm pretty sickened by some of the reviewers on CNET for the Sprint Touch Pro (i'm sure they'll do it to the verizon version too). They're rating this phone half a star out of five just because they're in love with their iPhones. They clearly don't know a thing about Windows Mobile or Sprint and the bias is appalling. "This phone doesn't have 3g" & "Just another asian joke!!!!!!!!"" - quotes like these make me sick (don't judge me for calling these reviewers names, they asked for it and it's just my opinion). Apparently, they have no idea what EVDO rev A is and don't realize our phones had it before the iPhone even came out. It's also obvious these douche bags skewed the "has this review been useful" option that cnet has for their reviews. Before this phone started getting noticed by people outside of ppcgeeks/xda, the reviews on cnet were much more realistic. I know i shouldn't care, but it's obvious iPhone users are bitter for some reason. That being said, this means war. Touch Pro vs iPhone users (keep it classy guys).
Why do any of us rate any product on a website? To give an accurate review of the product we bought and tested, so that others can learn from our purchases. That way, those people can make a better decision on buying a product. This is what this thread is about. Take back the respect that HTC should be earning with this phone. If you disagree on making the reviews right, then you obviously don't get it. I'm not saying everyone should go out and give it 5 stars, but it should not be getting half a star by someone that's not even with sprint and doesn't know what evdo is. It's neat to own a unique piece of tech, but the higher the demand, the better our devices will get. If HTC devices were more popular, maybe we'd be sitting with a CDMA Touch Hd right now, instead of the Touch Pro. Who knows? Sprint may even stray from offering so many business phones, if they finally get the iPhone. Where will that leave us?
I say we band together and write positive reviews on CNET for this phone that we've come to love in a short time. It's obviously much better than our previous devices and shouldn't even come close to getting half a star! I mean, I love WM and don't like the iPhone, but i'd never give it a crappy rating like that. I ask that everyone who writes a review on cnet: to please, keep is clean and tasteful. We don't need to bash innocent iPhone users, we just need to give a true rating to silence these biased iPhoners. If you must, you could always just click "reply" on their review and tell them why you think they're just being biased (replies to reviews should be fair game because the original reviewers can defend themselves. Chances are they won't because they know it's a bs review in the first place).
Please go here and write a positive review, so people who aren't biased that are looking for a great business/customizable phone can rely on real feedback:

UPDATE: We've managed to add about 50+ to the amount of positive reviews at cnet thanks to ppcgeeks and xda members. I think it's safe to say that we are silencing those irrational applehead reviews. Thank you.

that's hilarious
It's a shame that they can only rate htc devices 3 and a half stars at most. This phone has improved in multiple ways over past phones, but it still is not getting credit. I'll spread the word though.

been spreading the word for some time now on the touch pro. it simply outclasses the iphone by leaps and bounds. the only thing that the iphone has is screen size, but i like the smaller size of my touch pro.
the iphone looks like a face shield when someone is using it.
only thing im siappointed about is smart dial.
ive gone from the xv6800 to htc pro and loving it..
i am also extremely surprised on how well sprint is working out for me because the coverage is fantastic. i had sprint in nyc and it was flawless, in syracuse according to many it's a serious issue and that information has turned out to be false. the service in syracuse is fantastic.
they dont even mention the card scanner which in my opinion is an incredible and extremely useful function on this device

I love my Touch Pro but one thing that's missing is the organized and clever way apps are available on the iPhone...the app store is a solid centralized front for finding apps and updating them, something I feel is really lacking for WM (and POS) phones. Sure, we have freewarepocketpc and pocketgear and (barf) Handango, but how easy is it to access one of those sites quickly from your device and see if there are any updates to your installed programs?
Of course, the app store isn't a perfect idea but it's a level of organization that I wish WM had. There are some really neat apps for the iphone that I wish we had for ours

exactly! it's supposed to be the best business phone sprint has to offer... that's something that's useful in the business world and also something they should have reviewed in their vid/article. It's not in the vid, but they mentioned it by name only in page 2 of their review... Definitely should have told people more about it instead of just name dropping it.

doesn't sprint have a store accessible by the default PIE homepage? It's not as great but who cares... we have developer sites like xda and ppcgeeks...we get a lot of our apps for free they aren't governed by microsoft. We can also install these app right out of the box, we don't have to jailbreak our phones. Apple has too much of a strongarm on their phone, it can't be used to its full potential... people have to wait around for official fixes if their phone is acting up. We also had orb long before iPhone got it, that tells you how hard it is to get an app out for them. Do they even have access to slingbox mobile yet?
It's a great phone and all, but I'll stick with wm and my touch pro... can't beat the customization and wm community. While our phones are decked out with different interfaces, if you look at people with iPhones, they all look the same... how boring.

the touch pro has a keyboard, iphone is a slim and dandy device.
touch pro has more memory (even in verizon's config), more resolution, and more carriers out there, thanks to windows mobile.
it may not be as hip and iconic as the iphone but imho htc makes some quality phones and windows mobile is pretty rockin.
The attitude I have been seeing on my daily marketing blogs and newsletter feeds is all about the iPhone does this or that, I even replied to a statement that the iPhone will be the only mobile that does cut-n-paste, when I replied, he told me I was wrong, that ours was a very limited C-P, odd I just used it an hour ago and it worked fine.

Right, and when the iPhone finally gets a screen size upgrade all these trolls will talk about how great the new size is, how it doesn't feel bulking with little baby hands, how it's not at all awkward to hold up against your head. Christ, they probably shoot a premature load when they find out their new 8" tablet makes phone calls.
I'm currently an iPhone user. Have been since the day they came out, but that will be changing once FedEx knocks on my door on Friday (tomorrow would be even better). I have always loved my iPhone. It has been nearly perfect for what I've needed it to do except in one specific area: Screen size. Sure, I could have made the jump to a 4.x" Android phone but there weren't any phones of that size that I was interested in, and with the push to 4G/LTE there were even less Android devices I was personally felt were captivating to me. What really pushed my decision to leave the iPhone was the release (or the announcement I should say) of the iPhone 4s. Wow! What a disappointment. I didn't find the move from the 3g to the 3gs to be all that spectacular and I certainly wasn't overly awestruck by Siri. Sure, there was some increase in performance but there were no improvements in the area where I wanted it, the screen size. 5.3' is big. There is no doubt about that, but I have big hands, and as much as I've enjoyed each and every iPhone I've ever owned I have always had a problem fumbling around with the virtual keyboard, even when in landscape. My kids on the other hand, they love their iPhones. They use the crap out of them for what they do, and they love Siri. And you know what, that's fine too...
I can't stand how 99% of the reviews for other phone find need to even mention the iPhone. Review the phone your reviewing and stop swinging from apple's nut sack like Tarzan its pathetic to say the least...

I'm so frakin sick of apple. I hate the way they do business I hate the way they make phones. And yes I have owned plenty of Apple products. It's funny how in this piece Farjad writes that "When you go back to a normal phone after using something so large, you wonder what on earth you were thinking." While Engadget says "After a few hours with the Note you'll very quickly become accustomed to the size, and once you have you won't want to go back."
I don't see how he can justify that the utility of a phone diminishes as it's screen size increases. So long as it is pocketable, and increase in screen size will always increase utility. More screen real estate means more room for your fingers, more room for enjoying media, less zooming, and much less eye strain. I absolutely despise anybody that brags about the fackin 'retina display'. At 3.5", holding the phone a foot away or more makes small text unreadable anyways. Yes, our ppi is slightly lower at 285 I believe, but hell, you can at least read text from a foot away. Also, if you move an iphone close enoygh to make the screen appear the same size as the note, or the note far enough away to seem the same size as the iphone, guess what? The note has higher resolution. Bam. Some people are just too stupid and ignorant to accept the fact that the note destroys the need to carry a phone and a tablet. Yes, readability on an iPad is probably easier with the large display, but it's still an extra device that you have to carry, and it really cannot be held comfortably for extended periods of time anyways due to its weight to size ratio. The note will have a great weight to size ratio, making enjoying media for extended periods of time rival that of the lightweight kindles and nooks. Plus it makes calls. It's sad when people are so loyal to a brand that they fail to realize that other brands make superior products. I would take my current infuse or my old cappy over an iPhone any day of the week. And my old cappy is two years old.
The other thing that apple lovers fail to realize is that fragmentation isn't a completely bad thing. It gives you options. You have phones from the size of the HTC aria or xperia mini all the way up to the infuse, galaxy nexus and note, and everywhere in between. You can choose the device that suits your needs best, and aren't locked to a single size, incrementally update phone.
Also, I hate when apple fans bash the rate that new android phones are released. That hate is fackin stupid. It allows you to get the latest and greatest smartphone whenever you are available to upgrade, not just once a year. It also promotes competition that has driven the quality and technology of android devices at an unbelievable pace. Yes, your phone will not be the latest and greatest shortly after you purchase it, but you still have a top of the line phone that is every bit as good, if not better in my opinion, than an iPhone. Fragmentation pushes manufacturers to try new things that will bring great phones to the market much faster than one phone per year. I guarantee that if apple made multiple versions and screen sizes of the iPhone that their market share would not increase. Instead, they would have fewer people per each device, with roughly the same number of people.
People like having choices, and until apple realizes that, iOS will forever be behind android.

Once I got my HTC Advantage 5 years ago, I knew I would never go back to a "normal" phone. I have always loved having a 5" screen. THAT is normal.

Constant mention of it is probably the only thing that keeps the iPhone relevant (in any way that it is). Is apple paying all these people!? Jeebus! iPhone is crap compared to even my 2yr old Evo 4g. And I've got ICS on my Evo lol. Would apple ever ALLOW THAT? Hell NO.

While I agree that it is stupid for so many reviewers to talk about the iPhone, that is not "the only thing that keeps the iPhone relevant." Millions of people have and will continue to buy iPhones even if new Android phones are not compared to the iPhone in reviews. The reasons the iPhone is popular are legion, from people who are clueless, to Apple cultists, to people who legitimately prefer the feel of iOS to other mobile options. The clueless people are the only people who might be influenced by lack of iPhone mention in reviews, but I sincerely doubt that many of them have ever read a review of Android device online.

If so, what are your initial thoughts about the switch?
I've a few blinkered friends who just refuse to even consider anything other than an iphone....even though some have never even tried anything else!
I'd like to give them some feedback from you guys as to why they should at least think about it!!

Does it count if I'm a fandroid who's using iphone and is in an apple environment where I'm typing this from an ipad 3 and have access to numerous apple products and actually see out of the box?

If they're not very interested in technology they probably won't want to watch them... Though if they in fact aren't very interested in tech per my assumption, then I do feel that the iPhone is the best phone for them anyway, so if that's the case the videos aren't really needed.
When answering friends/family asking me which phone they should buy (I'm the phone advice guy) I always think: How interested is this person in tech such as computers and phones? How much do they know about tech? If the person is pretty uninterested and/or simply not a "settings/theme tweaker" kind of person, my answer is always and without fail the iPhone.
If the person is at least somewhat aware of new tech gadgets and has some rudimentary knowledge about phones, then things get more interesting.
I've had an iPhone4 myself for 11 months, and I did enjoy it. It worked very well, everything from GPS to basic phone stuff worked very well. I never had any problems, and I really felt I could trust in the phone to work when I suddenly needed quick GPS aid or something else. It never failed me.
The iPhone IS a good device, especially if you're more of a "set it and forget it" kind of person.
Me, I started to miss the customization options that Android offers, and the iPhone's tiny display was starting to annoy me. (Because of its size, other than that I loved the display.)
AND another big reason is the video series that I already mentioned earlier. Really opened my eyes. iOS is falling behind. Badly. Although not everyone cares about that. Those who do care should be sporting an Android.
i'll be switching from the iphone 4 to the samsung galaxy s3.
Have been using iOS for 2 years now. Never really liked iOS, but I guess I was just out of grad school and rode the popularity train and kept the iphone. Now I want a little more from my phone.

I am making the switch from the 4S to the S3. I have switched between all kinds of phones, currently back in forth between my Thunderbolt and 4S when I want to switch it up. However, the S3 just seems like it's ready to blow me away, where iOS is getting a bit stale to me.

I'm also the phone advice guy and I have the exact same thought process when considering what I think they should get.
It's really easy to overestimate how limited most people's tech knowledge is and I'm no guru.

you forgot one point. a common belief held by typical users is that having an iPhone is cool an shows that you're classy and rich whereas android is for nerds and cheapsakes. they're too full of themselves to realize the different between being smart and efficient conpared to ignorant and foolish

I remember my boss saw me playing with my brand new galaxy and said "lol, not everyone can have an iphone." i really wanted to bury my foot in his face, he had the damn 3GS! My phone would make the 3GS commit suicide just by looking at it! That is how most nontech folks see this.. Don't get me wrong on this, I'm no iphone hater but I'm beginning to feel some frustration against some users xD

I went from the Samsung Galaxy S2 to the iPhone 4s to the Xperia S to the HTC One XL. I am going to switch to the Galaxy S3 as soon as I find a good deal on an international one or as soon as it comes out for Rogers.
Although I didn't really have many complaints about the iPhone 4s after an iTunes restore. Here are my main problems with it.
It was the first to use bluetooth 4.0 but it sucks. The range is very poor and disconnects too easily compared to BT 3.0. To be fair, this also happens on my One X. I don't think BT 4.0 is ready for prime time yet and the battery saving is not worth it yet. I am not expecting the GS3 BT 4.0 to have the same range as the GS2 and Xperia S BT 2.1 but it will be better than the iPhone 4s BT 4.0 similar to how BT 4.0 is better on the HTC One X.
Here is the main reason I got rid of it though. EVERYBODY in my region has either the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s. It is like if everyone had your favorite jacket. I would stop wearing it and it wouldn't be my favorite anymore. Also similar to how uniforms make you look like part of a hive, an iPhone 4s makes you look like you are assimilated into some massive cult. It might be a shallow reason and might not bug everyone, but it REALLY bugs me. I like to have some individuality.
You can also tell them that the Xperia S is basically a nicer and classier looking version of the iPhone 4s. It performs just as well down to the keyboard. Not to mention it offers more freedom to boot.
However, I would choose the 4s over the HTC One X and all my other phones before the GS2.

I am not expecting the GS3 BT 4.0 to have the same range as the GS2 and Xperia S BT 2.1 but it will be better than the iPhone 4s BT 4.0 similar to how BT 4.0 is better on the HTC One X.
Here is the main reason I got rid of it though. EVERYBODY in my region has either the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s. It is like if everyone had your favorite jacket. I would stop wearing it and it wouldn't be my favorite anymore. Also similar to how uniforms make you look like part of a hive, an iPhone 4s makes you look like you are assimilated into some massive cult. It might be a shallow reason and might not bug everyone, but it REALLY bugs me. I like to have some individuality.
You can also tell them that the Xperia S is basically a nicer and classier looking version of the iPhone 4s. It performs just as well down to the keyboard. Not to mention it offers more freedom to boot.
However, I would choose the 4s over the HTC One X and all my other phones before the GS2.

It just works and doesn't bother me during use. I am very picky about fluidity and user interface.
A few years ago the thing that I liked about the iPhone was easy music syncing (I actually quite like using iTunes believe it or not), a good music player (continuous playback etc), good screen, and it was pretty consistent.
I felt Android had the potential but maybe the hardware needed to improve to accommodate the great features. The 'oh but the iPhone just works' argument maybe had some substance back then.
Now the hardware has accelerated so much and the developers have really started to fine tune the software, that argument just doesn't hold up.
Plus, now I've finally discovered programmes like PowerAmp and iSyncr that fill the music gap, I can have a decent amount of storage without being extorted, a nice big screen and I don't have to have the same phone every other person has.
For me, you just can't compare the iPhone to the current high end Android devices. The Apple fanboys might make a case when comparing it to the lower end devices but £ for £ Android is way ahead in my book.
Was playing with my father in law's 4S today. I don't know how anyone can say it's more "intuitive" or user friendly than android. I'm sure if you are used to iOS it feels like it, but it took me 20 minutes to figure how to turn off his email ding that drives him nuts from all his spam because obviously he barely knows how to do anything other than make phone calls and read email. Also wanted to make it so when you delete emails it ALSO deletes it from the server. Still haven't found a way to do it with his hotmail account, as he complained about having to delete all his junk mail twice. "Just works" my ass. I guess as long as you don't mind having it work like Apples wants you to.

I am not saying Android isn't better than IOS. I agree it is. My One X however, just doesn't do it for me. It stutters and lags more than my iPhone 4s did. The BT also didn't work until a factory reset on the One X and even when it did it would disconnect during a conversation.
Also, my screen flexed until I popped it back in by putting a case on and the only way I can get it to run smooth is with Sslauncher. Sorry, my HTC One X sucks and my iPhone 4s didn't.
I like all my other Android phones over the iPhone 4s though even though one of them used a last gen Qualcomm S3.

That's not really a good comparison. As it takes way more steps to change notification sounds in Androids email client.
All of this is totally biased. You're frequenting a forum that caters to the very people more likely to use android, regardless of what they had before. I think xda is more about the type of person than the tech they use, because most people who enjoy using their tech a specific way find xda like a beacon. Those that don't never bother, and that's the majority of people, with or without Android. The fact of the matter is whatever phone you think will make your life better, that's what you should get. Not everyone has a need for rooting, nfc, etc. Some people have dishwashers, but I get along fine washing it like a normal jackoff (even though I have a dishwasher). I'm also the same guy that flashes every other week. Not all tech is for everyone.

And what would you like? It is a good time to be an Android fan and Nexus 10 owner to support the tablet app ecosystem. It's hard to come across a review, which would be written by a person not using either Android or iOS in everyday life, so there is always going to be bias in som sense.
Anyways, Jerry from AndroidCentral is very good with reviews and I believe that if there was something fundementaly wrong with the tablet, he would mention it.

What I would like are hard data (basically numbers and specs,) plus any insight from the reviewer's firsthand use. The reviewer's opinion matters as well, if I can accord it credibility. I don't need the "oh it's great you'll love it trust me" rah-rah crap.
Now, I understand that many people prefer the assurance of an "expert," which I suppose include your garden-variety blogger. Given my iconoclastic bent, I sadly must part with such security blankets.

It would be a good time for fans if N10 turns out to be successful and engenders a flood of tab apps. We are all hoping for that. But that has yet to happen, so please excuse while I go sit on the eggs.
I realize I'm fated to be the eternal pessimist, but selling N10 retail at $499 isn't the best formula for said success, IMO. That said, please don't let this Neg Nancy spoil your joy.

Personal observations: Check
Personal insight: Check
Specifications on the N10 have been out for weeks, not much more to cover there, but he did include them for the sake of article completeness.
He made fairly astute observations about how it felt in the hand, how it struck him aesthetically, how the device performed, etc.
So his "review crime" was prefacing the article with enthusiasm? He's discredited because he liked the device? That's pretty valuable information in the "insight" category as far as I'm concerned. Sure, it's subjective, but all reviews that are more than regurgitating specs are when you get right down to it.
Windows 8, for example, in purely objective review format, is superior to Windows 7 in every category. But actually using it on a non-touchscreen device will quickly bring to light its weaknesses. However, you really only get that sort of information from either hands-on use or (wait for it) subjective reviews.
I like benchmarks as much as the next guy, and really appreciate sites like Anandtech that have a good methodology for testing. But, I don't buy ANYTHING based on a cold hard Anandtech-style review. Case in point, I don't own any Apple products.

Nothing. There were no new insights gleaned--other than that the reviewer is a rabid Android fanboy. Most N10 aspects have already been revealed. The only unknowns remaining are left to the final build, which reportedly are being pushed out OTA as we speak. Hopefully, we'll get info for 4.2's multi-user acct and (possible) Miracast support tomorrow from reviewers.

There's little I can say here to one who has no clue what the word "objective" means. Perhaps you know what "oxymoron" means.

I don't, as benchmarks rarely matter outside of geek circles. But it's a piece of hard data, assuming proper methodology--which all too often is faulty. Anyway, there are many other important aspects not covered in the typical blog "review" (quotes intentional.) One good case in point is the universally rosy blog reviews of the Asus TF Prime, which turned out to be quite the opposite in real-world use.

Anandtech has its pitfalls. Its forte is CPU architectures and traditional x86 desktop testing. Mobile devices and testing are outside of its core competency, and it shows. To wit: The Asus TF Prime was given a similar thumbs-up along with the rest of the blogging circuit. I've noted other lapses. Regardless, its reviews are usually detailed enough, benchmarks aside, that one doesn't have to lean so heavily on the reviewer's judgment. Per the homily: Show me, don't tell me.
In case it's not clear by now, it's more important to review the reviewer than the object being reviewed, because once you know the first, you know the second.
So now we are cherry-picking reviews?! This reminds me of a certain presidential candidate who decided he wasn't really behind, the polls just needed unskewing

If most of the reviews say its a nice device with so so viewing angles and average battery life then I'm inclined to believe them. And nobody will argue with the fact that that Android tablet App selection needs work compared to iOS.
That said, Apple is an arrogant ****e company and their saint Steve was a prick who never cared about anyone but himself so for me its an easy choice.

e.g. "I don't want an iPad because I find iOS to be a bit stale, and I like to be able to tinker with my devices.
Pretty sure how a dead guy acted/ how a company acted wouldn't usually affect your product choices, so stop being silly about apple being apple and instead point out the flaws in the tech rather than the company.

Unlike silly fanboys I look objectively at the pros and cons of a product. I stated that the iPad was still a bit better tablet than the nexus and clearly listed why. If a company's policies, leadership and general attitude bother me then I don't want to buy their products, so it most definitely affects my product choices. I don't need any other reason than that. So I came across this video and felt the need to share it. The real kicker is at 0:53 to 1:00. Basically, the guys says, and I quote, "...you can even add an extra row of apps on the bottom of the home screen. It's a real improvement."
They've done this for the past 2 years now. Adding an extra row of apps is now considered a major improvement?

wow i watched that video and i don't know why, the title of this post sucked me in. who the hell is that milk-toast? i guess they let anyone in front of the camera these days. funny how everything they vehemently criticized other OEMs for is suddenly okay, now that apple has made the "best large screen phone". large phones need to get thinner so you can hold them comfortably in your hand? yeah that makes perfect sense considering the basic anatomy of our hand and the concavity of our palms. douche.

Sh*t like this just infuriates me. It's not that I'm an Android fanboy or anything like that, I just don't like false advertising. Their marketing (this counts as Apple marketing due to them only supplying reviewers with units in advance upon agreeing to give a glowing review) is just blatant lying. To claim "The best large screen made" is absolute sh*t.
There are some of us that look at devices and actually pay attention to the fact that Apple's "Retina HD" display on the 6 is a "4.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit widescreen Multi‑Touch display with IPS technology, (1334 x750) at 326 ppi with a 1400:1 contrast ratio". First, let's negate a lot of the bullsh*t Apple includes in their descriptions. Everyone has Multi-Touch. IPS screens REQUIRE backlight. It's a limitation of the technology. They also consume more power. The draw to making them is that they're cheap to produce. That makes sense (and cents). This is one of the biggest reasons that the cost-per-phone production price of the iPhone 5s ($199) is LOWER than the cost of the Samsung Galaxy S4 ($237).
By comparison, the S5 has a 5.1” FHD Super AMOLED (1920 x 1080) at 432 ppi with an INFINITE contrast ratio. SAMOLED screens are more expensive to produce but do not require a backlight, are much slimmer, require MUCH less power, and reflect less light - making them easier to read outdoors.
I'm a gadget guy. I look at the pros and cons of a lot of devices to pick which one is generally the best. No well informed consumer would buy an inferior product that costs more. It makes no sense at all. It does seem like I hate on Apple. I just don't agree with blatantly lying to sell a product. Even worse, I can't stand the general attitude of Apple as a company in stating that they make superior products when they absolutely know they don't. This trickles down to their consumers, who are much less informed, that tout how they have the greatest thing out there. Sure, if you'd like to believe that, fine. Bingo. But every company blatantly lies. It's just how much they can get away with. And apple seems to be getting away with quite a lot.
I found a few things interesting about the video.
1. They used a dorky guy to review the iPhone. Typically, the clientele for iPhone are people who *think* they are snazzy, hip, cool, and have things that everyone else wants - someone not very fruity. They used someone that an iPhoner would describe as an Android user.
2. This guy seriously thinks that one of the main/only reasons people chose Android was the screen size. Hardly.
