please help - Motorola Droid RAZR

good afternoon
im seeking help and advise in installing a custom rom that does the following
1) improve battery life (i bought the phone cause specs say 9 hour talk time)
2) speaker volume boost
3) light and stable
please help me i am struggling to use this phone as the battery dies super fast, very disappointed in motorola for razr although it produces great phones with long lasting battery.

Curious what you think good talk time is? What are you using your phone for? What is running in the backround that could be killing the battery. I left my Charge for the Razr Maxx and couldnt be happier.

I havent used any Roms but to help you could look and see what is running through applications and use auto end. IMO just look for a ROM that says debloated and go from there. What runs on one persons phone may run differenr on another. It can happen. Or you may not like what options were removed. One thing you could do is once rooted look at this as a partial guide of stuff that you could freeze as there are several programs that will do this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341770
Here is one Rom that is debloated and has a few tweaks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392810
Or you could always just use a stock rooted Rom and learn or do things the way you want.
I didnt pay attention is your phone gsm or cdma?

stock 2.1 rom 10% battery drain per hour when sleeping
sc 2.9.2 UV 50 kernel (dont remember the full name) 3-5% sleeping in my pocket, BUT 1% drain every 3minutes when the screen is on the LOWEST setting.
Just odined back to stock, and 2.2 was already available to me.....so i OTA upgraded and my battery battery is even worse than that of stock 2.1. 12% percent for sleeping AND crazy battery drain when using the screen... i cant get over 7 hours of using my phone moderately....
warranty is voided since i rooted right???

dont u guys even dare telling me to recalibrate my battery and all that nonsense. none of this works.
No its not voided, you got the update via ota right? As long as you don't bring it in there rooted you should be fine.

Technically yes, but if your back to 100% stock, with no root, then know one well know you rooted.

Have you checked spare parts to see whats eating your battery?
Here are some things you could have done or do.
-Clear battery stats using terminal emulator
-Use app called juice defender
-Use UV kernel (seems like you did)
-Use Set CPU and bring down max frequency to 800MHz.
-Turn off GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth when not in use.
My suggestion is Odin to DI01 and then get the two OTA's EA28 and ED01 and then just run complete stock, and do not install ANY apps, yes I know who wants to run a phone with 0 added apps, you can update any stock apps, but if you run your phone for a day or 2 with just that setup and your having the same issue then go to verizon and get your phone replaced, also keep track of any settings you change, you want to try and keep your phone stock as much as possible, the only stock setting I personally would change is not have live wallpapers.
If your phone is over a year old, you might want to consider getting a new battery for it. No rechargable batteries stay 100% for over a year.

The phone has not been out a year, so its impossible for him to have it longer then a year.
Good point
Seems like this phone has been out damn near forever. Was trying to help. You have a better idea, or do you just troll these forums looking to bust peoples' balls while offering no actual help of your own?
the fear i have with taking it to Verizon is that. i didn't originally buy the phone. i got it of craigslist....so another question i have is, is there a warranty sticker to show if its ever been taken apart? maybe the previous owner replaced it with a cheap POS screen, that why it eats more battery...

Hmm ... I'm not sure about the replacement screen theory ... that seems like a lot of work for ??? benefit.
I second the advice about going stock and not installing any apps. Also, I don't see that you listed some of the things from Battery Use and Spare Parts that are listed as taking up battery life. There are apps that start things up automatically (e.g. Pandora always starts a service when I connect my bluetooth headset, even though it doesn't do audio and I've never used Pandora over bluetooth) ... sometimes you can change this in the settings, sometimes you have to decide how much you want to live with the app.
Out of curiosity, do you leave WiFi on when not connected to a network? I find that sucks battery pretty bad. I use Locale to turn that off when not at home and only turn it back on if I need it. I also used a widget called Traffic Monitor for a little while to see what was using data.
Honestly, you won't be able to return it to Verizon. My husband bought an Ally off Ebay and found out when we got the phone that something wasn't right, so he went to Verizon store and once they found out where it was bought they didn't even want to help him out.
I would suggest calling Verizon and tell them that the phone you have now doesn't work period. You'll need to emphasize that you need a phone that works. I called Verizon the same night that the store didn't help my hubby out and after an hour with the customer rep, I was able to get a new Ally ordered for him and his upgrade date wasn't until Dec of this year. He got his new phone late Feb/March I believe.
If they say they can't help you, keep telling them that you need a phone, and then ask them if they can see if a supervisor will be able to help you out. I stayed on the call with them, until they had that new phone ordered for him-I didn't give up. If the 1st day you call doesn't pan out, call them the next day as each rep is diff and some are really wanting to help, others couldn't care less.
Hope this helps you out.

I did offer a suggestion, which is the same thing that Verizon would ask you to do, and its the same suggestion even most Carriers should ask you. Same with a lot of computer companies should ask you when you are having issues with your computer.
Reset your machine to standard stock, run all your updates, don't install any apps, and see if it still happens, if your battery is just as bad, then we know its either your phone or battery, either way Verizon will trade it out for you, because honestly what else can it be? The only way Verizon can really say tough luck and deal with it is if the battery life he is saying he gets, is what everyone else gets, which we all know is not true.

I update OTA last week on Verizon to Froyo 2.2. My battery was overheating and draining like crazy from my CPU usage being at a constant 99%..
I found the source of the problem. An app I use for facebook called "FLOW". The CPU usage was cut to 20% when I killed it with "Advanced Task Killer".
I resolved the issue by: Opening Flow.. going to Preferences.. Notification Settings.. Refresh Type.. Checked Periodic Polling (I was using Gmail Experimental previously)
Hope this helps...

[Q] Best RAZR Rom?

I just rooted and installed safestrap. These two questions may contradict each other but: What bloatware can I safely remove without screwing anything up? and What is the best ROM for the Razr? I'm a slight noob but not a complete idiot if I am given extensive instructions. I guess I am what you would call a power user? I want it to run as fast as possible and the battery life to be as good as possible. Those are my top 2 priorities. I use my phone a lot and am not convinced that I need to switch to Maxx, pretty sure the battery life of my razr will get the job done with a little help.
Dude get the Maxx. If you use your phone as much as you say you do then you do need it. I got the Maxx and love it! You won't need to tweak the Maxx.
The Maxx's battery last all day and then some. I streamed 4 hours of Pandora, made a couple of hours worth of phone calls, surfed for about an hour, and customized the ADW launcher for 20 minutes. After being on battery for 19 hours I still had 50% left!
Don't give it another thought and get the Maxx. It is awesome! I have spent years living and traveling with extra batteries, chargers everywhere just trying to get one day of phone use and the Maxx has changed all that. motoblur is actually improved since my Dx and I like it.
Well I was up till 2am trying Roms and then back to stock.

This was good but still missing something for me.

This was great I really like this but hated the fact you had to toggle gsm to lte alot. Atleast I did, maybe I didnt read enough. Dont remember the last one I used.
Some just took out to much bloat for me as I used some. Would have to find the .apk I wanted for the program. So far I guess my option is to do a rooted stock Rom and take what I want out. Then tweak what I want. As far as battery life I dont know as I didnt have them long enough. Also Imon a Maxx and it was never a problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341770
Here is a list of some of what people have removed and it was no problem.
Thank you guys
Really appreciate the help from everybody. I guess I am just lying to myself. I need to get the Maxx.

If you have the option for the MAXX you should definitely get it. It's easier to hold and the change in battery life is amazing, worth the extra 60$ or so.
60$ very hight
The best ROM is not universal The best rom is the one that best suits your needs. This kind of threads have always ended up badly.
My advise, go here, read the characteristics of each rom, choose and try. The one that fullfills your needs, that is the best rom (for you )
Cheers.

[Q] SGS2 vs GSM GNEX battery life - is this normal?

Just wondering if the differences in the two are normal.
I owned a SGS2 for a long time, and the battery would sometimes be just awful. There were days when it would drain 1% on standby, and then days when it was like 5-7% on standby - which is pretty bad for not using the phone at all.
I finally gave up on non-nexus phones and got myself a gnex and its freaking awesome. On a typical day, i leave for work at 7, and get home at 3 with 70% left - with some use.
I switched back to my SGS2 to see if there was still a difference even when running a newer/better rom, and battery life still seems pretty bad. I was at my other job today, and my Gnex will usually drain 15% over 8 hours, today my SGS2 drained 70%
Is this normal? I have bbs and cpu spy installed, and will post results after work tomorrow if anyone is interested.
I was planning on giving this to my mom as her first smartphone (i thought the lower DPI would be better for her eyes), but now im thinking i should just sell this, and then use whatever i get to put towards a Gnex.
Next time man just post one thread regarding your questions and issue. No need to make one here and one in general. And to answer your question about battery life it depends what rom yer running and what apps u have installed. And I suppose how u use the phone as well, referring to whether u listen to tons of music or mainly for calling, either way good luck, happy flashing.

Identical everything with the exception that the SGS2 is AOKP, and the Gnex is paranoid android. When i installed AOKP on my SGS2, i literally sat there and made it so both phones look about identical - with the exception of rom specific things like the notification menu and stuff like that. Same apps, same settings, same homescreen setup, etc etc etc.
All things being equal - is the gnex that much better on battery life?

Antutu Benchmark

14,520 on Antutu.
Very impressive for a stock device! I guess this would certainly explain why this phone is so snappy! Without question, this is the smoothest phone I have ever owned. On the downside, I'm sure this is also why the battery life leaves a lot to be desired.
Now I'll just anxiously await the ROMs that can help save my battery. Fingers crossed...

Nice bro.
Once they release the Unlock, then we'll be able to root and get that score higher just by deleting all of that Verizon and Amazon crap...
It's extremely unneeded, but I want to see this beast get overclocked to see how high we can get these benchmarks to go.

I'm using a Nextel i830. I must have posted in the wrong forum... Good catch.
C'mon, the device I'm using is clearly listed in the signature you copied to your own reply. That being said, you mention that the 'battery is great' on your DNA. Would you mind elaborating on how you use it? I recognize that you are a developer, and if you are actually trying to help, I'm very curious what the differences are. Maybe I have a faulty device??
- Do you keep wifi on all day?
- Same for bluetooth?
- What about data usage? 4G, etc?
- Is GPS on or off?
- Do you have any apps set to sync automatically?
- Made many phone calls?
- Watched any movies?
- Surfed the net?
Etc...
Yesterday at around 2PM (after posting the benchmark), I had to run to Comcast to swap out my modem. When I saw the line, I thought I was at the DMV. The sign said 'Now serving #24'; I had just pulled # 81. At that time, my phone had been off the charger for approximately 6 hours. I looked at my phone and had 39% battery left, so I figured what the heck, I'll watch some video and let time pass. I use a Bose BT2 headset which is typically intended for phone calls, but it works very nicely for media also, so I used it while I watched The Office on the Xfinity app. About halfway through the 3rd episode (approximately 55 minutes), the phone died completely. Barely 7 hours of use on a fully charged battery. Oh, how a replaceable battery would have come in handy during the last half hour of my wait.
When the phone is on, I absolutely LOVE IT, though I am quickly losing faith in this phone's ability to satisfy my wants and desires in an electronic device. I think I may return to the RAZR Maxx, though I would really miss having Sense... I'll give it another week; I must be missing something, right?? I sure hope so. :fingers-crossed:

Help needed. Droid Razr XT 912 verizon.

please mates i need your help I am a noob.
first let me start from telling you guys the history of me and my phone.
I got my phone with a stock ice cream sandwich. using the phone i noticed that the battery doesn't last long. the battery drains so fast the i need to charge a minimum of two times daily for the phone to stay on. later i did an OTA update to jellybean 4.1.2. no significant improve in battery lifespan. battery can drain up in less 4-6 hrs of listening to music using normal earphone. i tried switching off 3G, reducing screen brightness to 30%. removing live wallpapers and battery never exceeds 5-6hrs. 3G browsing kills my battery within 3hrs, 2hrs + most times. All these after fully charged. When the battery is 100% charged and unplugged used for 5mins i can see it drop to 80% right in front of my eyes. it tries to seat at 80% for a little longer like 20mins or more of usage. then 60% or so. One day i tried to install chainfire3D i got my phone bricked, never knew it wasn't supported by jellybean so i flashed it with a stock jellybean rom 98.72.16.XT912.verizon.en.us spyder or so with wsdlite flashing program. my phone is working now. but the battery is still the same. i've tried to get information on how to go back to ics but i read that it is not possible but can result to bricking my device. Please brothers can anyone suggest to me what to do so i can enjoy a little battery life like others. I'm on Jelly bean please i need a stable rom that can keep my battery longer . can someone suggest the best jellybean rom for my device. i will appreciate it so much. i have no option than to seek your opinion mates. I need the best rom possible. give me suggestions and i can compare by my self. focus: battery life, smoothness, less bugs, good camera, and you know better.

There are a lot of things that battery life depends on. It depends on how you use it. Heavy usage like 3G browsing, video streaming ,long time nav etc do eat up your battery.
If you are a heavy user, it still lasts for 10-12 hrs.
Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk 2
you might wanna think about installing safrstrap 3.11(if you have not already) and try a cm based rom.. cm 10.1.0 RC5, PAC-man, carbon, then use dtrail1's custom KERNEL, you can overvlock/underclock as well as set your voltages which is the main reason for his KERNEL, battery life...
Have a look at this. Its quite detailed.

You cannot go back to ICS. If you flash any ICS ROM, your phone simply won't boot. So downgrade is not an option.
