i'm new to rooting running a droid razr is anyone running cpu tuner and can you recomend settings to maximize battery life ?i am a light to moderate user living in an area that swiches from 3g to 2g alot, thanks
Radio signal has nothing to do with CPU, but perhaps you mentioned it because of battery life.
As long as you have a kernel that supports it, undervolting should help with your battery life a bit. I'm not sure if your app allows for it, but if you can set a profile to undervolt with the screen off. SetCPU had this option (as well as the ability to set profiles for other scenarios). I highly recommend purchasing SetCPU, but it is available for free for XDA members, just search for it.

So i'm running Das Bamf 1.4 ROM with Adrynalyne's 4.3a kernal ADW launcher blah blah blah.
Problem is I've read through the comments for the kernals and the rom and it seems like everyone is getting greatly improved battery life. But with me I can only get maybe 5-8 hours with light/moderate use. In the past 5 min I've dropped 2% just looking through the checking the time and changing some settings.
I did a full wipe when I flashed them.. and since i'm running 4.3a (stock speed) i'm not using setcpu or anything. Am i missing something?
Are you using SetCPU? If so, what are the configurations for it?
No I'm not running Setcpu. I'm not trying to OC and the kernal i'm using is designed for stock speeds.
ok so turned off my 4g radio... and now i'm getting a lot better battery life. i feel like i was getting better battery life with my stock kernal (when i have my 4g on). but with 3g only my batter is outstanding so far.
You can still use setCPU without overclocking. I'm using an oc/uv kernel but I set my max speed to 1ghz. I set up profiles to decrease the max speed as my battery decreases. I also use a profile that sets my max speed at 348 when the screen is off. I get anywhere from 16 to 24 hours battery life on 3g depending on my usage.

Enjoy.
I stumbled upon these apps by dumb luck and decided to post this for anyone that doesn't know they exist. The dev is Chinese I am guessing based on a lot of his apps being in Chinese. He soes have these 3 apps in full English though and I am glad he does! For anyone that is looking for a SetCPU alternative, look no further. I will be the first to admit that I am not crazy about SetCPU. The app and I don't get along because of stability issues. CPU Master can do everything SetCPU can do but with better stability. I have been using it on both of my Vibrants. I have one Vibrant with the MIUI Rom (1.7.29) with the Bali 1.1.1 kernel and the other Vibrant is running CM7 Trigger Redux #17 with the Bali 1.1.1 kernel. I have had ZERO issues with the phones. Set on boot work flawlessly and overclocking is a breeze. The will give you every scaler that is included with the kernel you are running along with whatever overclock speed is set in the kernel. The Bali kernel supports up to 1.4Ghz and thats what the slider is maxed at. I loaded the Glitch kernel that supports 1.7Ghz overclock to see if the slider adjusts to that speed and as expected, I got 1.7. The only difference between the Free version and the paid version is that you can set and edit profiles in the paid version. For 1.99, its well worth the investment!
The Benchmark app ties directly into CPU Master. It tests everything that Quadrant Advanced (paid version) does PLUS it tests the speed of your SD cards! All of this and it's Free. If you are playing with overclocking speeds on your phone to see where the threshold is on your device, this benchmark will tell you. Through its rigorous testing you will see right away if your phones CPU can handle the speed you are testing. If you lock up during the test, its time to slow it down! On my MIUI Vibrant, I can only go up to 1.3Ghz and beyond that it freaks out. On my CM7 Trigger Vibrant, I can run 1.4Ghz with no problems.
Smart Profiles Free is a great app for people who spend part of their day in places where being quite is important. You can create all kinds of different profiles throughout your day to keep your phone running like the way YOU want it and not worry about turing on and off features. Just make your profiles and you are done! For example, from Monday to Friday I am at work 8 - 4:30 and I want my phone on Vibrate only. During those times I also want my WiFi on to use the company's internet and not my data plan and I also want my GPS off. As you can see you have A LOT of control of the various functions of your phone!
These apps are definitely worth the time to take a look at and try out. For any end user that wants even more control of their phone, they are certainly a fantastic addition!!

Excellent over / underclocking utility!
Yes, sure Antutu CPU Master is really a very good and powerful utility. I bought the pro version and it is worth the money. I am using it in my Samsung Infuse 4G, this allow the device to be underclocked till 100 MHz and overclock up to 1800 MHz, of course with the required Kernel and root access. It can be configured by the readymade profiles that can automatically change the clock settings based on conditions.
The widget which is just two column wide and 1 row height shows CPU Speed, Battery Status and Temperature. It has profiles, default, Charging, Screen off, In Call, Low battery, Temperature over-heat.
For stable clock setting set the minimum to 800 MHz as below this the device goes unresponsive particularly when the screen is off. I am using the range between 800 - 1800 and so far no issues, and it works great!
As mentioned, the benchmark, CPU setting and profile are great features of Antutu collection of software. Thanks to them!
Hey guys, i was just wondering what apps you guys use that actually work to improve performance of the phone in battery and speed?

Check out this guide made by Woodrube. The third post has a list of apps designed to prolong battery life. My favorite is Juice Defender. It's worked wonders for my phones battery. The guide also discusses other methods of increasing battery like undervolting [must be rooted to undervolt] (post 2) and other misc. things (post 1). I suggest you take a look at it.
As for increasing speed performance that's what overclocking is for. You must be rooted to do this and have flashed a custom kernel. Then you have to have installed an app like SetCPU. Just keep in mind that overclocking drains battery. Overclocking to 1.2Ghz shouldn't hurt the battery too bad and have increased performance, but it will drain faster then not overclocking at all. Underclocking is good to prolong battery life, but will reduce performance.
Hope you are able to get the most out of you battery
Thanks for the plug N00B.
Also if you are on Stock Kernel, you can use Tegrak's Overclock and overclock your stock kernel. It will work on 2.2 stock based ROMs. That in conjunction with SetCPU you can overclock your stock ROM easy-peezy. It also has a 5min compatability time to see of your settings will work or freeze/restart. There is a paid version too with more functionality and "set on boot".
You should definitely consider downloading "Watchdog Task Manager" from the Market, as it monitors what is using your CPU and how much, so you can keep power hungry apps under control. Its a "real" task manager, as it doesn't close apps based on the RAM that they use, which is what the Android OS already does.
As for OC, I use Antutu CPU Master, and keep it at 100-1000/1200mHz while in use, and 100-800mHz if I'm not. Hope this helps.
Im on stock 2.2 with bail uv and its great i get scores between 1700-1800 abd battery is awesome and im using auto minfree im just looking for an edge. What do you guys think of minfree apps?

What's up everyone! New to the RAZR forums! Was just wondering what would be the best way to save some battery...I know there's the kernal tweaks from leviathon26 and that's suppossed to help with battery life but it seems like there's some problems with the script so I'm gonna wait a little to try that out...but is there any other tweaks I can try, or a ROM or app that you guys recommend?

I just installed the governor modules so i could use the interactiveX, HotplugX, etc. After switching to the InteractiveX governor with I/O scheduler set to noop, I've gotten the best battery life so far!
I use rom toolbox to set the governor and I/O scheduler. You can look here for more info...

These aren't exactly tweaks, but they should help if you use any of them.
My guide
You could also try "Easy Battery Saver" from Play Store. Has worked for me for the past 3 months. Gives you lots of ways to customize and tweak various settings like WiFi, GPS, AutoSync timings, mobile data auto turn-off, brightness, etc.

I always used Juice Defender with my Droid Incredible (had notoriously horrendous battery life w/ only 1300 mAh). I never had any problems with it and noticed it worked great and nearly DOUBLED my battery life.
I don't know how well it would work on the RAZR (I have a MAXX, so I don't use any battery saver apps), but I would think it would be relatively the same.
Turn off services when you don't need them, don't use animating wallpapers, turn off animations turn off widgets.
hello everybody
the question is simple..... i have a E790 and i want a Rom, kernel, mod or configuration for best battery life... any suggestions?
Slick V3 plus MEs kernel. Lower min clock speed and use badass governor. I've never had anything better. I'm currently using MEs EG8 ROM, which I like better, but battery life is slightly less then when I used Slick.

Best configuration for extended battery life = power off when not in active use.
Not trying to be a jerk here, but while stating that question is simple, the answer most certainly isn't. There are a huge number of factors that play into battery life, and you haven't provided any info at all to us to provide good answer.
The answer depends on how you use the device. Do you need extended idle time but not high performance? underclock, undervolt, freeze all your background apps. Do you have lots of stuff running in the background? Try greenify paid with xposed features. Do you want the most possible screen on time? drop your brightness as low as you can stand it. Run in Airplane mode. Are you in a crappy service area? Turn off cell radio and use Wifi only.
We don't know what you need for connectivity, or how you use the device, or what apps you run, or anything else. We need tons more info to try to chase battery life. We don't know what will constitute "acceptable" performance, to you, when down-tuning processor speeds and brightness and things. These are all things you need to experiment with to find what works best for you.
In general, I've found that for my use-case, the new 4.3 ROMs are marginally better on battery life than prior versions. I typically get about 4 hours screen on time, with around 20 hours up-time, and minimal phone calls (15min per day or so) and end up having 15-20% battery left when I put the phone on the charger. In moderate use, I look for wakelocks to be roughly twice my screen on time. I don't run much processor intensive stuff, the majority of my awake time is spent at minimum clock speed.

Min screen brightness, lower timeout, eco mode, task killer, data off and airplane mode at the office (or school or whenever you use "silent mode" instead)

Be very careful with task killers. If you try to kill stuff that auto restarts, you will end up causing battery draining start / kill loops. In general task killers haven't been necessary since gingerbread.

As stated before, the 4.3 roms seem to have better battery life then the previous versions.
Certain apps can help with battery life as well. "Tasker" can be setup to disable functions when not needed.
"SetCPU" can be used to setup profiles to change min/max frequencies and change governors when certain conditions are met... this can also be done with Tasker but requires a good understanding of Tasker functions.
"Greenify" is also a good app. It will hibernate apps that you choose. This can prevent certain apps from running in the backround until you actually use them.

Kernel Confusion
Dear Concern,
m using AT&T LG Optimus G (e970), i just rooted my phone and unlocked my bootloader. the confusion m having ritenow is
m about to install the new custom rom in my phone but m confused about the kernel thing that ppl used to talk here .. my current software information is
Android Version :: 4.1.2
Kernel Version ::: 3.4.0
Software Version : E97020J
Can anyone guide me if i need to flash kernel while installing the custom roms *4.4.2*, and what are the risks?
is it necessary to flash kernel or not ??
Regards.
Moiz
Its not necessary to flash separate kernel..custom ROMs come with embedded kernels sometimes modified from existing kernels, such as mizry's AK kernel...flashing separate kernels are optional
