What's up everyone! New to the RAZR forums! Was just wondering what would be the best way to save some battery...I know there's the kernal tweaks from leviathon26 and that's suppossed to help with battery life but it seems like there's some problems with the script so I'm gonna wait a little to try that out...but is there any other tweaks I can try, or a ROM or app that you guys recommend?

I just installed the governor modules so i could use the interactiveX, HotplugX, etc. After switching to the InteractiveX governor with I/O scheduler set to noop, I've gotten the best battery life so far!
I use rom toolbox to set the governor and I/O scheduler. You can look here for more info...

These aren't exactly tweaks, but they should help if you use any of them.
My guide
You could also try "Easy Battery Saver" from Play Store. Has worked for me for the past 3 months. Gives you lots of ways to customize and tweak various settings like WiFi, GPS, AutoSync timings, mobile data auto turn-off, brightness, etc.

I always used Juice Defender with my Droid Incredible (had notoriously horrendous battery life w/ only 1300 mAh). I never had any problems with it and noticed it worked great and nearly DOUBLED my battery life.
I don't know how well it would work on the RAZR (I have a MAXX, so I don't use any battery saver apps), but I would think it would be relatively the same.
Turn off services when you don't need them, don't use animating wallpapers, turn off animations turn off widgets.

im running the extreme1.92x kernel oc'd at 1.4 but not sure about the best setup to save battery. i made one profile for charging i put in on max. not sure what to do with the advanced tab settings.
Profiles are really dependent on the user and their needs. The one piece of advice I can give you is to make sure you have a profile set up in case your phone starts to over heat. An OC'ed phone maxed during a charge may get quite toasty.
any suggestions?
Imo dont o/c. Let the kernel operate the way it is setup. O/c cause reboots, phone heating up, and freezes.

I'm running Adrynalyne's 4.4.7 kernel and use the following and get really good battery life with no overheating and no lag. I don't do a screen of profile because the governor seems to handle that pretty well.
Normal 1024 max 245 min-Smartass governor
Profiles:
Battery < 25% 768 max 245 min-On demand Governor
Charging 1280 Max 245 min-Smartass governor

Does that actually work?
I thought you had to choose a default governor and setup profiles accordingly.
I didn't know you could setup profiles with a governor that wasn't active or chosen on boot.
the thunderbolt is so fast already theres really no need to over clock. i left it at stock for normal, toned down to 768 when <30% battery and down to 368 when screen off. its a little slow for about half a second when waking up but the battery life is amazing. i can make it through a whole day without charging with moderate use. also running ziggys bfs kernel on virusrom and that added a ton of speed. way better than overclocking that drains your battery
im not asking about overclocking or profiles, just want to know about advanced settings. everything is set to default -1.

What Rom are you using?
Go to settings, menu, wireless networks, mobile networks and uncheck the third box. No need to have mobile data always on for most peeps . You'll still have 4G n everything, but gain a good 1-2 maybe more hrs (depending on use, kernels, governor settings, and I/O scheduling. I personally am running BAMF 1.6.2 with adryns 4.4.7 kernel, no set CPU, using tool box for that at 245mhz min - 1.024GHz max with ondemand governor and most importantly SIO Scheduler. Try these n you will have amazing performance and better battery life. Let me know you opinions

No matter how precise I click, I can't get SetCPU to set 1024mhz. Closest I can get is 1036. What gives? lol

Haha, I couldn't tell if you were being serious or not but each kernel has speeds at different increments. 1036 will probably be as close as you can get to 1024.

My settings are identical except running 1.6.3, what does the SIO scheduler do or any of the schedulers for that matter?

You can use Wikipedia for the scheduler info. Once you look into it you'll know why I didn't wanna type all those details in here from my phone. Lol, but yeah set that to SIO, Take off ENABLE data always on. N you should be better let me know.

What do you guys think is better smartassv2 or ondemand? I usually use smartassv2 but im not sure with the rezound.
I'm using ondemand and its been perfect for me. no rebooted and great battery life.
I flashed incredikernel 6 the day it was released weeks ago.
I use on-demand, I have not had a single reboot/bootloop etc yet & the battery life is super.
I use on demand with the stock Kernel (using cleanrom 3.5). I drop the cpu down to about 1.ghz and set a profile for on demand between 192 and 760 something when the screen is off. I only dropped about 3 percent a few nights ago while sleeping (6.5 hours roughly). (the phone doesn't go into sleep mode and I dont have a battery saver). I don't get that with my heavy usage, but that is a big plus.
Where do you guys get the download for ondemand? Back in the day when I had the OG Droid, everyone used SetCPU. Doesn't seem to be the app of choice any more to set frequencies. I can't find ondemand (or smartass for that matter) in the market. ANy suggestions?
I had been using ondemand up until a few days ago. The last couple days I have been using interactive, and it seems like both battery life and performance are somewhat better, although I have no hard numbers to support this, and I have really random usage.

They're features on the kernel. When you install the kernel you'll be able to check which one you wanna use from the app. (SetCPU may be good, but it seems the apps of choice on the Rezound are AnTuTu or Systems Tuner Pro, I use AnTuTU.)
Or if you use incredikernel the app incredicontrol goes along with it perfectly and is 100% totally stable for me. I have tried every kernel there is both GB and ICS on my phone and incredikernel and the stock kernel are the only ones that will run stability test scaling stability test all night long without bootlooping.

Thank you so much for the reply. I am just sticking with the stock Kernal for now, but I was interested in undervolting the kernal while it's in sleep mode and while charging to see if I can save battery life. I just tried SetCPU, but was not pleased with the constant SU pop ups. It was keeping my screen awake. I think I'll five AnTuTu a shot.
If I ever load a custom kernal, I'll know what to keep an eye out for.
I have completely given up on undervolting at this point, I never once saw a noticeable increase in battery life but I definitely ended up with a less stable phone.........

What we need are more custom kernels.
I have undervolted (Incredikernel with Incredicontrol) and it's quite stable and the battery life is pretty good. I can get 12 - 16 hours with the stock battery with medium usage (texting, browsing).
Interstingly, it was 10 - 12 with OnDemand. Interactive seems to be better.

Have you ever tried leaving all the settings exactly the same and NOT undervolting??
I would be willing to bet the battery life would be almost identical.
CPU Tuner is awesome also. Might be the best.

Actually, yes. It did make a difference. Not as significant as on the Incredible, although that may be a difference in HAVS vs SVS.
But what works for one may not work for all.

im having a bit of an issue with the bamf smartassv2 kernel. if i try to set any voltage/governor settings after a reboot my min setting always ends up maxed out. ive tried to use incredicontrol, antutu and setcpu. anybody have any experience with this and what i can do to fix the issue? im on chingy's gb rom.
i tied out the incredikernel but ondemand seems to really drain battery for me.
I use Interactive while the screen is on, Conservative while the screen is off, and it works very well.
Its like a SmartassV2 emulation!

What are you using for profiles becuase incredicontrol cannot do that. I just know the battery life on incredible kernel for me is really bad.
Right now I use SetCPU. There is a free version on XDA, although I bought it from the market to support the Dev.
I'm on Incredikernel beta 3-1 to play with OC right now...Incredikernel beta 6 was pretty solid though.

ive had problems with setCPU not holding settings
Alright, I really would like everyone's opinion on this or at least as many as possible, devs especially! I used my Juice Defender app for battery Saving (still is) but I believe the CPU function is broken as it caused tons of freezing on my Galaxy Player 4. I honestly believe it's just not functional to do such a task (the app I mean). So I grabbed nofrills since I hear about it so much on this part of the forums here on xda but had bought setcpu that applied undervolting to the CPU frequencies automatically, I have no clue if nofrills is doing undervolts. So what does the community here use? I'm open to any suggestions, no criticisms.
I also read up on schedulers but don't know which one is the best to us for our Galaxy Players. I'm using the terrasilent Kernal, so I'm using that governor. The schedulers have been narrowed down to to vr, bfq, and sio after my research - there is a thread here in the galaxy nexus portion of xda that explains everything very well. Which scheduler do you use for you Galaxy Player.
All suggestions, opinions, and comments are extremely appreciated! Thanks for reading, looking forward to hearing from you guys.
Tegrak overclock can overclock to 1300 MHz, but volt control needs the full version. Maybe the kernel disables this functionality tho, cos it only works on galaxy products.
Sent from my YP-G70 using xda app-developers app
I use tegrak ultimate. It'll handle over/underclocking and over/undervolting and will allow you to set frequencies not specified in the kernel. I have mine at 1444mhz (1360ma) right now, with 100mhz (825ma) at idle. I also use setcpu for the profile switching so I can control what frequency it's running at as the battery discharges. I usually use noop or cfq as a scheduler, but that's only because entropy doesn't feel the need to include other governors.
You just have to make sure when playing with this stuff that you have ONE program controlling the function - don't go into one program and adjust something, then go adjust the same in another. I don't really find the need to run juice defender.. these things get pretty decent battery life as it is.
I mainly use the Juice Defender now for automatic wifi turn off schedules, and only having certain apps use wifi (screen on or off only). Some apps/games pop on wifi for no reason and at weird time frames. Plus the tint feature really helps at night for an insomniac like me.
Besides that the reasoning behind this thread is to help others but to also find out why my Poweramp or anything audio related stutters when I turn off the screen and I'm thinking either it's the scheduler (using sio right now), Rom (using ethereal), clock speed (100mhz with screen off), overclocker (using nofrills), or is it the wifi being on in general still pulling data...
Hello, i have a motorolar razr recently upgreaded to ICS.
Some of my games have lag now, like N.O.V.A. 3. Before it was just fine, the game didnt have any lag, now it have.
And without using any program, i have just 300mb ram free.
Is it right? just 300mb? The game lag is because of it?
Aaand, what can i do with it? Any program to free the ram memory? Im a little noob at it. (my device is rooted)
A factory reset seems to solve most people's problems they are having after receiving the ICS update. I know it solved mine and many others.

It is rooted, and how can i do that?
I doubt changing cpu from interactive to hotplug will improve lag.
It'll probably increase lag instead, and hotplug is better for battery life.
Try these...

as for nova 3, use chainfre3D and set "reduce texture quality".

1) Autokiller memory optimizer is not an auto kill apps program. It's an internal memory tweaker.
2) Higher benchmarks =/= less lag. A game that maintain at 30fps has less lag in comparison to a game that jumps from 10 to 40 fps despite being able to run at higher fps.
Anyway, you can use setcpu to use hotplug when screen is off, and interactive when screen is on.
Yeah, but Screen Off Profiles are waste of Memory. Your RazR always has to decide which governor to run, when you turn on/off the Screen. That uses Memory and battery (think about it )
Run an Benchmark with interactive/ hotplug and compare. Hotplug runs butter smooth and will give you more fps on graphical benchmarks.
Anyway, it's your phone
Sent from my XT910
I'm not saying which governor is better, just giving facts.
I'm experiencing lag in games and UI with hotplug compared to interactive.
Personally I have changing the governor to and fro, depending on my usage.
