i checked my battery stat and it shows that "android system" is using up 48% of the battery.... is that normal? and what is causing it?
It's not using 48%, just that's the proportion it's using. If, for example, you were playing a game that ate the battery, then for the same stats it would decrease and the game's % would increase. See what I mean?

A simple search of XDA will reveal Android OS and other assorted battery faqs .
Normal depends upon usage and users settings and apps .

What app are you guys using which shows usage, drain, and graphs of your battery? I'd like to download it and see what's causing my battery to tank so much. Thanks!

Most use the built-in battery status that can be found in settings>about phone>battery usage and then click on the time that the phone has been on located at the top to get the graph.
If you go into settings>applications>battery usage it will show you everything in there. From there if you tap the graph it will show you more detail.
Not an app but built in

BetterBatteryStats
Thanks guys! Wasn't aware of the graph in the settings. I'll also look at BetterBatteryStats.

I use Battery monitor widget pro. Mainly because it could tell me (approximately, but close) how long my battery will last.
I've been having problems with my phone overheating and shutting down becauase of it. What's a good app to monitor battery usage and system temp?

Batterysnap might work for you. Has a widget that monitors temp and percentage, and keeps a running graph of battery level (% or v I believe) vs. time.
Elixir2 might also do it...definitely monitors those items, and has widget capabilitiy, but I don't specifically know if you can set up a widget to monitor them live...
I don't know of one exactly that is meant for it, but you can setup SetCPU to warn you and then underclock.

Boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache and fix permissions. If that doesn't help, download BetterBatteryStats and see if apps are causing kernel wakelocks (not letting your phone go into deep sleep) meaning keeping it awake and using CPU.

Without any other information this history information is absolutely useless. If there is any problem at all you can solve it by doing what themadba suggested in post #3.

The battery history you posted is plain useless.
However, if you have autosync enabled, then disable it

I did notice that my stock 2.3.6 battery indicator shows wrong level. It shows full until it reaches 70%, shows 50% when it is 25%. It looks like it shows more battery than it actually is. Any fix for that?

So, my phone has been restarting a lot lately under excessive usage (browsing + music (not all the time)) and I'm statrting to suspect the battery. How do I test the battery health? The hardware way (read the voltage with a multimeter) or the software way (some kind of an app which reads all the relevant info from the battery)?

Yeah. It works for me. It should just open the menu automatically and you should see the battery info there. Try finding a voltage checker on play store.
