Voodoo? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Let me start out by saying this isn't a thread wanting to know when something is coming out but rather is there a possibility. Can the note support voodoo sound? If so that will be one more thing to look for in the future of the note. Voodoo sound on my infuse was like a wet dream. It would be great if the note had that ability sometime down the road. Again not asking for it just wondering if it has the capability.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA App

Sorry it has the wrong DAC (Yamaha); i still go back to my infuse on occasion just for the sound.
The most we can hope for is voodoo louder (it's running on the international Note).
Check out equalizer in the app store it helps some, but still can't overcome inferior hardware.

Sadly all I care about is the dB boost on line out. I guess ill keep my infuse as an mp3 player for my car instead of selling it lol.

Coming from the cappy, is it possible for this phone to have the benefit, or is the audio chip not the same?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Not the same. Not as powerful from what i understand. Would be nice though...

This is a shame, and will keep me from upgrading to the S2. I have a captivate now and was looking forward to improved GPS with the S2. However, GPS is good enough on the captivate now (custom ROMs), and the sound quality is too good to give up.
Maybe try listening to the sound quality?
I haven't noticed any significant difference between the two.

I noticed quite a change. The Cappy is slightly more 'crisp' and with bass boost that was in voodoo, it sounded far superior to the SGSII.
Is there a way to incorporate bass boost?

Interestingly enough - Supercurio is working on doing some MC1N2 audio tuning. It's in extremely early stages (as in, he has no threads on it, it's only there for those who really know where to look, and he does NOT like when people put alpha-grade testing software of his into widely available releases.)
So some interesting stuff might be coming - who knows, often research projects like that just don't pan out, so don't get your hopes up.

I've seen some that work great with music already on your device. I'd like to have one (like voodoo sound) that covers any audio that comes out of the device for use on apps like SlackerRadio and Pandora.

The only issue with market equalizers is that they are mostly software based which will distort the sound. Voodoo sound is software thats specially designed to rework how the hardware outputs audio allowing for better clarity

I spoke with supercurio a couple days ago about this actually, and according to him there will be no "Voodoo Sound" for the SGSII. The hardware simply does not have the features required for it to work, and the audio hardware is really inferior to the previous generation Galaxy S phones as well.
I cant believe that would be a deal breaker for getting this phone....i think it sounds great as is! But, to each his own!

How well it actually works, who knows - it could prove that the above link is a failed experiment.
He's doing a simple "Volume Boost" app, mainly for the Galaxy Note, but he mentioned it could be used on the Galaxy S II.

Being able to maximize the digital gain while tweaking the analog gain should improve things a little - but not too much.

Voodoo Sound

Does Anyone know is Super Curio will be doing any development on the Note?
He did some work on the international version of the Note to make it louder and is working on a screen improvement.
Hopefully the snapdragon processor the ATnT version uses will be compatible with his work.
Anyone know if the speaker on the galaxy note will be better than my SGS4G?

Do the Skyrocket people know if any of supercurio's stuff works on a Skyrocket? I'd imagine if he has it working for Skyrockets, it'd be an easy port to AT&T Note.
Pretty sure the sgs2 line doesnt have the sound processing chip like sgs1, so I believe that won't happen.

I wouldn't mind Voodoo Sound on the Note but the sound is already much louder than it was on the Captivate. I used to listen to the volume (without Voodoo) at around 75% and now 50% on the Note is just as loud. I certainly do not need it any louder than it already is.

Voodoo Sound is excellent if you use good headphones, but it needs the Yamaha DAC, which only the SGS1 and infuse had.
I'm using Equalizer on the Note, and while it's not Voodoo Sound, it does help a bit.

[Q] Converting to a full time mp3 device

Think I'm going to convert my Fascinate to a full time mp3 device rather than try to sell it. Wondering if there are any ROM ideas for this specifically or if anyone else has even thought of making one specifically for this purpose. Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Interesting idea, but exactly what difference would making it a 'full time' mp3 player be as opposed to just having a shortcut to your music player of choice? I'm not trying to rain on your parade I'm just curious what features you had in mind
Sounds like the idea I had... Since upgrading to the GNex, I have thought of converting my old Evo to an mp3 player, to replace my ancient 5g iPod. I am thinking that going with the most stripped down, vanilla ROM, with your music player of choice installed. As additional benefit, the WiFi would still work, allowing for easily browsing/downloading additional music.

[Q] Beats Audio for Galaxy S3 GT-I9300

Hi guys, Im new to gs3 but not new to rooting ect, my friend wants to know if beats audio is availble and working on the new s3 on stock ICS. if so can you hook a brother up? im currently using beats audio on my ace

No, Beats is not supported. However, the audio quality is already very good and Supercurio is also working on his Voodoo kernel which improves the audio quality a lot (much better than Beats).

The wolfson audio codec in the gs3 is top quality stuff, its already amazing and with supercurio showing it some voodoo magic it will be the ****!
Beats is a gimmick.
The "I want Beats Audio" threads are the only ones where I ever have to restrain myself from coming in and flaming people.
To the OP: rest assured, when the S3 gets Voodoo anyone who isn't near-deaf will forget all about Beats.

I agree with your point but the thanks were for the band in your signature!
I wouldn't call S3 sound quality bad but by no means would I call it good, because I've owned a lot of Nokias and the sound quality is just in a different league to Samsung, and I've tried Voodoo on my SGS1&2 but still not even close, and if I want to listen to some music I prefer to dig out my old N95.
Audio quality really depends on a lot of factors: music player, earphones, environment, music file, etc...
Comparing combinations of the above factors is impossible and counterproductive. It's better to compare each part of the "chain" individually.
So far the SGS3 comes very close to what I consider very good. It's not perfect, but then again, I'm waiting for Supercurio's work to be finished. Compared to my HTC Desire and my old iPod nano 2nd gen, it is really good and I hardly dare to ask for more.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I tried same tracks, same headphones and same equalizer settings and also manually changing them, but my N95 beats it with maximum volume and all through the range, and I just find the S3 sound dull and muted in comparison.
Beat's is completely portable to the SIII.
This feature although controversial will be in our next Warm ROM installment for the SIII.
I just posted a link to the dsp manager app. I like it better than beats because of customization ability.

How to get Beats Audio on your SGS3:
1. Use a music player with an equaliser
2. Increase the gain of all low frequency bands to maximum
And voila, instant Beats Audio!

Once you get it dialed in for the majority of your music, you are good to go.

Unfortunately not. That's the only thing I miss about my Charge. Supercurio only owns Samsung, and won't let anyone port his work to anything he doesn't own because he wants to be able to support it properly if it has his brand on it. It might be possible to emulate, but no one has done it yet.

I would agree with you but since The 2.0 update it allows for skins. I use kovledevs ICS power amp skin and Its much better looking. It also skins the player and Widgets fyi. The beats actually makes a pretty good difference. But sense roms just have such better sound. For me for some unknown reason my audio is really messed up and seems like it's only playing in mono instead of stereo. And it's only a problem on AOSP rooms. As soon as I go to sense its fine. So I may go back

Thanks! I'm really surprised by this phone it seems like the underdog for some reason. The prices for these phones are really cheap compared to a razr or nexus. The quality of this phone is definitely better than most and the screen is really superb. I'm not sure why more people dont like it. Good for us though! As a side note I realized that even replacing the lcd and digitizer is quite cheap and easy.

You see what we saw in this when we bought it. Even when full price at 300 seemed much better than both Razr and Nexus. Camera, screen, sound, great radios, removable battery(Razr), and free beats made this really hard to beat.

Why not the S3? I tend to think that is a good phone overall. Althoughm when you take apart these phones you see there is no metal shielding around the components like htc or motorola has. This is why the signal is always so good on these devices.
Getting back on topic how does poweramp stack up to the beats player? Isnt beats restricted to only the integrated htc player? I thought I saw a script somewhere to access the beats audio for use on any player. What player or script brings a purer sound from the DAC?
