emptying my sd card - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi there, ive just noticed that my s2 is getting full (internal)but when i check whats on it im baffled by most of the stuff on apart from ROMS and updates, the question is how do i know what to get rid of to free up space, for e.g. what is rosie scrolland plenty of other stuff like that, thanks in advance

The best and clearest way is:
1) Titanium Backup for third part apps
2) save important Data (documents, music, pics) to PC
3) format the sd card!
4) Flash again
a) firmware via Odin (finished if no rom needed)
b) flash a kernel (because root and CWM)
c) Choose rom and copy to sd
d) flash rom
5) restore Titanium Backup data and files from PC

1) download a copy of the mik_os's CM7 (also gapps.zip, you will want that)
2) backup files from your phone to your pc. just to make sure ( you've already done this)
3) copy mik_os's CM7 (and gapps.zip) to your sdcard
4) reboot to recovery
5) make sure you do a nandroid backup
6) wipe everything
7) flash miks_os's CM7(then flash gapps.zip)
8) reboot
9) enjoy!
you will lose all the installed applications on your phone.. just reinstall them afterwards or use titanium backup i guess.
hope everything goes well.. have fun with gingerbread!

[Q] (Q) Weird issue with galaxy s internal sd memory

I had problems with my galaxy S, which was running on official 2.3.6
I decided to wipe everything clean and install a custom rom
But during the process, I've come across a weird weird problem
I started to get UIDs system error and was asking me to wipe data partition to use the phone
so I tried to wipe all the partitions
I have tried wiping int sd card via phone -> didn't work
I have tried wiping via cwm -> didn't work
I have tried wiping & re-partition via odin + reinstall -> didn't work
I have physically deleted contents from int sd while connected via USB -> didn't work
I have formatted the removable disk (int sd) while connected via USB -> didn't work
what I mean by didn't work is, the next time I reboot, I find that all the contents in my phone comes back alive...
I don't know what I can do to fix this problem
I can install new mods fine, but due to the fact that old system files and apps are present together, which didn't get wiped, and causes clashes and my phone won't work as it starts up... I really don't know how I can fix this problem and wipe my phone clean to "resurrect" it..
please help me if you know solution to this problem
This really sounds weired.....
You should download sd maid for root users (search for the paid version)
There you have many options for finding odd data on your sdcard and internal phone storage
you can delete files
sd maid makes you find some dead apps wich make your problems
give me a feedback if it works..or not
stay well

hey thanks for the suggestion, but at the moment, I can't use the phone at all because all my basics apps and system apps clashes on boot up, no matter what I flash on to my phone, hence basically it won't start up.. so I can't use any apps infact the phone itself
Only thing I can do is via CWM recovery mode, or via odin
If you know how to deal with this problem via that way, it will be great~

Transfer app data to extsdcard

Hey all
I got my S3 a couple of weeks back.. Used it amazing phone... Rooted it... Flashed slim bean... Flashed official Indian JB 4.1.1
And onto it right now
The thread heading!! With all this flashing the internal memory wipes out. And backing it up every time would be a hassle.
I have come from the galaxy ace where the app data would be stored in the ext sd card so there's no chance of loosing all the data... Like WhatsApp images preferences of apps... I actually lost my entire titanium backup
Had to restore manually
Any way I can transfer app data to extsdcard?
I have root and busybox.

Nope, can't move data from internal memory to extSD on S3 i9300 or i9305. It's a major flaw on Samsung's part imo.
There's an app developed by slig, it's called DirectoryBind that will allow you to move data across to your extSD. Works like a charm for 90% of games e.g. Gameloft where extra data can be over 500MB. I'm using DirectoryBind and it's works well, never had an issue, in fact only found one game out of thirty so far that I couldn't bind.
Note: if you use DirectoryBind you'll need to bind each app/game separately, you can't bind a folder like android/obb or android/data thinking it will automatically move the new installs across, this must be done per install.
If you just wanna move apk's across, then Link2SD will also work, but it won't transfer gama data.
Thanks for the reply
I'll try the directorybind
So now how do you manage flashing without losing data?
It's a big bummer :banghead:

I haven't flashed yet, only rooted. I am considering flashing Pandoriam...
So about not losing data... I use MyBackup Pro and would most likely use it when I flash a new rom on my i9305...
If you move data across to your extSD with DirectoryBind, you can backup your config. in DirectoryBind, flash without losing the extSD data and then re-install your APKs and restore your config. backup in DirectoryBind... then you're back where you left off when you start any of the APKs from your launcher, they'll pull the data from the DirectoryBind (extSD) straight away.
Not sure if this answers your question? Another alternative would be to backup the data you'd like to keep with Titanium Backup.

Make sure you set your backup location in Titanium Backup to the external SD (like "/mnt/extSdCard/Titaniumbackup/").
The same for CWM backup data : do it on external SD. If you create ,ZIP compressed images, you have to transfer this manually to ext SD.
Once in a while (before a ROM-flash) I launch FTP-Server on my SG3 and transfer all data to my PC through WIFI.
Wireless FTP is no hassle, no wires, and the fastest way to transfer lots of data from phone to PC. (I get 8500kB/s transfer rate).
Also, buy a 64 GB SD !
+1 pat 357, that's exactly how I backup my stuff .
Regarding the possibility of transferring the data to the micro sd card this is what I did after having tried apps2sd (doesn't work) & directory bind (imo was quiet unstable and tiresome).
Basically, you're going to make your phone believe that your sdcard is actually your internal & vice versa. Of course, using this tweak will really only make sense if you own either a 32 or higher micro sd card. I run it on the latest jelly bean 4.1.1 (rooted, obviously) samsung official stock rom and works like a charm coupled to a class 10 64GB sd card. I use the initial 16GB (now consiered as external sd for the phone) for music or any kind of media file I feel like having around.
What I did was a fresh install : wipe dalvik cache/factory reset...then flash Rom; Root&install CWM; flash kernel (I used SiyahKernel S3-v1.7 available here) through CWM; flash tweak (ExtSD2internalSD) through CWM. Ticks like a clock ever since then.
Hope this helped, if it did, enjoy and of course, thanks a million to mattiadg for this amazing tweak.

[Q] Any stable ROM's for Samsung galaxy txt

I am having a Samsung Galaxy txt for a couple of years now. It is working great. But i am planning to put a costume ROM on it because i don't want all these pre-loaded apps on it (takes allot of useful phone memory space). Is there any well known ROM for this phone? And if there is, how can i put it on the device? or is their just a way of moving these apps to the SD card?

First download the rom by searching through the forum then turn on the usb debugging on your phone> usb connection on MSC mode & copy paste it to the sd card. Then go to CWM recovery wipe & format system, data ,cache & flash the rom.

OK first you might want to give complete directions. Those only work if already rooted on a custom recovery.
Do the research for your device. I don't e end think it has unlocked bootloaders so it may not be an option to begin with

I've been using cyanogenmod ROM on my tab 2 p3100 that has been acting weird; maps force closing, black screens constantly, apps freezing for extended periods of time, and I want to start fresh. I'm going on a road trip for the holidays and would really like to use maps as they were intended.
I wiped all my personal data but there are still some pictures showing up in gallery and some app folders that didn't get deleted. My understanding is that this is all on the internal SD card. Is the ROM itself (AOKP 4.1.2) on the internal SD card also? If I were to go into CWM and format the internal SD would I lose everything and would the phone be unable to boot or would I be able to simply re-flash the ROM? if i were to put the new ROM on an external SD card would i be able to go back into CWM and flash it from there?
If I'm missing something feel free to correct me or point me in the right direction (a guide would be ideal). I've searched on various sights and can't find exactly what I'm looking for, everything seems a little vague.

i was wondered this a long time ago also bare with me as i try my best to explain what i know. so since tabs normally come with a lot of internal space and from what my knowledge is it makes the internal the default storage. for every file manager i use it defaults to the internal if you pop a micro sdcard into it the internal will still be the default apps will install on the internal only first (unless you use apps2sd or your internal has run out of storage) as for where the rom is at. yes it is inside the sdcard thats why when we buy the 16gig and we only end up with 14g its for the rom and other necessity's the tab needs to live. i dont know how you would format the internal sd card but im sure you would lose your rom if you do it. its very confusing i lost my stock backup (got the tab 2 also) because i thought the backup went to the external but it when to the internal and i wipped data and flashed a new rom. not sure if i answered your questions or answered any of them at all.
