Hey guys I've read some posts, reviews and watched some video samples of the Amaze and from what I can tell..it's true, the audio recording on this phone is horrible.
I wanted to ask if anyone from this forum could compare it to the MT4G?
That's the phone I am currently using now and want to know how does it measure up to the MT4G's audio recording when shooting video.
I ask because I record a lot of videos with my MT4G and it's important that the audio quality on the Amaze isn't less than my phone.
1080p would be awesome to have (mine has 720p) but I don't want to sacrifice audio quality.
So with that being said, could anyone tell me from personal experience whether it's worse or better when compared to MT4G?
Thanks a lot.
I would ask if you are so concerned for professional reasons and then I realized a pro would use a real camera...
Not trying to be a prick or anything. Just curious.
What is with the concern of how well the audio is recorded off your phones camera?

Because I don't own a point and shoot camera so I rely on my phone to do all the recording.
I have two kids, 5 and 4, and I record them all day, everyday.
So yeah I just don't want to sacrifice the audio quality for better video quality.
Cause if you have kids that young you should know the audio is the most important part!! They say some of the craziest things. Lol.
Anyway, thanks for asking though. I don't mind explaining. Do you have any thoughts here?

If you want good audio quality on a phone camcorder, you're not going to have any luck with HTC, put simply. The Amaze is a fantastic phone and video quality is among the best out there, but audio has never been HTCs strong point. If you're looking for great audio, I'd suggest looking into a Motorola device, though T-Mobile really doesnt support Moto anymore it seems. If you do go with Motorola, just know that video quality will not be the best on most, at least from what I've seen. The Razr looks solid on both fronts. Then there's the iPhone 4S, which undoubtedly has the best of both worlds. Either way, I'll stick with the Amaze. I love it in every way.

AWESOME!!!! Way better answer than anything I could think of. I definitely see where you are coming from. Audio would be very important.
Not that I have taken a lot of video with mine yet but I have to say it does not sound any better/worse than my iPhone's ever did. Video is a ****load better though

So it's not like a horrible difference yeah? Well that's good.
I mean my biggest thing was whether it'll be worse than my current phone.
myTouch 4G.
That's really what I'm trying to get at.
I don't have a problem with my phone's current audio recording.
I just don't want to be downgrading. =P

I can understand what you're saying, but my thing was just whether it's an audio downgrade from my current phone, the HTC myTouch 4G.
That's all. But thank you for the suggestions and yeah I'm not a big fan of Moto phones either.
Thank you.
What about Music quality?
How is the audio quality for music and video? I use my phone as mp3 player.

The audio quality is very good. But not stellar. Much depends on the source. If you use badly compressed mp3 files and cheap earbuds don't expect much. The phone can play .flac files if you install a 3rd party player like PowerAMP. That combined with a good set of headphones (I'm using Klipsch, which are also very good but not stellar) then the audio quality is more than adequate.

Why don't you take you're kids to a t-mobile and take some test videos too compare? Seems Luke that would be the easiest thing for you to do and you would not have to rely on any the opinion of someone else.

As far as recording, the audio is just as good as my vibrant...take that as you may--I am not a huge video guy. Plus, once you record, you can edit the audio on your pc.
PowerAmp is the single, most important app for me...in the car, at work, everywhere, the output is amazing.

Beats Audio
Do you know if Beats Audio will be in the Amaze anytime soon or in the dev posts?
audio seem ok to me...I had the SGS2 which only provides MONO audio, and audio quality seemed good . This phone provides mono and Stereo so I played around with it and when I put it on mono audio the sound quality is much better, but then again you get mono....So It might have something to do with the extra microphones trying to pick up extra sound and cutting out the background noise....Personally I feel the sound on the Amaze is much more clear with high treble, than the SGS2, is the only phone I can compare it to. sound on SGS2 was muffled a little. also the speakerphone on the back and front of the HTC device sound much less muffled than My SGS2, I have no experience with motrola or any other brank of phone.

I installed a app from the marketplace called Volume+, it was less than 2 dollars. But you can go to the dev website and download it for free. It boost up the volume from the audio playing from the loudspeaker and headset. I don't know if it will boost the recorded incoming audio. To me I had the MT4G rooted with a sense 3.0 Rom and I already love this amaze. As long as your hand doesn't block the microphones on the phone it is fine. Plus for 15 dollars you can buy the adapter to hook up to your tv and watch the glorious 1080p via HDMI. Also my Amaze is all stock. Plus the reception and call quality is very good.

This may seem odd but I found that, to me at least, it sounds better with the "stereo recording" off. That's how my MT4G videos sound.
Anyway, volume is not the problem here. It's sound quality.
I get the best recording with an app called rec forge, mono, wav and 22khz sample rate. The stereo recording does not improve the fidelity of the sound. I have yet to try an external Mic.

This may be a thread that makes more sense in headfi.org but since it's related to the SGSNote, might as well tell you guys know.
Reference thread (one of many): http://www.head-fi.org/t/555006/samsung-galaxy-s2-vs-iphone-4
The Samsung Galaxy S had an exceptional Digital to Audio Converter or DAC that was a pleasure for Audiophiles to use.
The iPhone family due to its ultra popularity has multiple external DACs that are audiophile quality and bypass the POS Apple gifted on the iPhone.
But the SGS2, Skyrocket, Note and variants of the SGS2 (family) have been bestowed with a sub par quality Yamaha DAC. Now, if you read the thread, you will see that through PowerAMP and other means, such a bypass through the usb to use with an AMP, it fixes the atrocious headphone socket, but source quality is still poor. No one has as of yet created and most likely will not create a product that is compatible with the SGS2 family to bypass the awful Yamaha's.
So, we're stuck with sub par quality audio... Great. This is the only aspect I regret of selling my iphone 4. I was buying the HRT Streamer II meant for the iPhone, an exceptionally priced dac that bypasses the iphones source component.
My all FLAC/ALAC library and Beyerdynamic DT990's are very angry. There goes my music listening on the go.
Wait for Voodoo sound.
And stop using Flac. 320k mp3 is more than enough. Flac is a placebo.
Anyway. 320k mp3s sound great on my ATH-AD700s

I notice the difference on my External Dac , and I have a crappy Fiio E9. All my mixtapes are 320k mp3s.
I can't wait for Voodoo, it helped get through Samsung's awful deving around the dac, but the yahama it self is still awful.
Voodoo Sound isn't coming, the stuffs it does do not apply in our situation.
We might however be able to pull some better quality out of the YDA165, I did some research on that with the SR, but didn't take it anywhere.

I wonder if I could remove the surface mounted (I'm guessing) chip from the mobo and install something nice, like a burrbrown. too bad I don't know anything about software to set it up, or if it is even possible to pull this off.
Here's hoping someone tries though.
We probably won't even get Voodoo LOUDER since supercurio doesn't support Skyrocket and other Qualcomm flavors of the GS2.
I'm not an audiophile, but I still find the sound quality disappointing. I guess most people don't realize or pay enough attention to sound reproduction to make Samsung put a better DAC in their recent phones. I'm sure they save money using the Yamaha, but I'd definitely be willing to pay a little bit more for the Wolfson they had in their last generation of phones.

I agree... The last at&t phone with the good sound DAC chip and supported Voodoo sound was the Samsung Infuse. The skyrocket and note are a no go, at least for right now.
And I thought I expected a lot from a phone...
My sister really wants a pocketable music player/camera/ of some kind. Mom won't get her a phone and is therefore considering an iPod touch, even though my sister shares my hatred of apple products. All said, an android PMP would be perfect for her.
No, an old phone without cellular access would not be ok, my mom... its easier not to try to explain, she just isn't ok with that. =P
So, I went to look up the Samsung Galaxy Players (as the only android PMPs i know are Samsung and Archos, and the Archos ones look disappointing) and i found there were no complete/reliable spec sheets anywhere on the internet >_< information was either vague (EG unspecified 1 GHz processor) or conflicting.
I'm looking between the Galaxy players 4.0, 4,2, and 5.0.
Which is better? screen size and internal storage do not matter as much as screen resolution, RAM, CPU, and SD card. I'm looking to get the best one i can buy at this point, not the best bang-for-your-buck one.
also, i found this device on GSMArena:
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_player_70_plus-4633.php
Anyone know anything about it?
As i said, there's not much on the internet about the galaxy players. Any help from you guys would be appreciated
NOTE: yes, i consider a 5" screen pocketable. So does my sister. A 7" tablet (EG nexus 7), however, is not, so that's not an option.
They all suffer from lack of RAM at this point. Maybe you should wait for a new model to be released...if they ever release one. Personally I like the 5.0 because of its screen size, and that's about it. As a PMP they all work fine. In terms of processing power the 4 and 5 are the same, not sure about the 4.2. both the 4 and 5 are SD Card expandable, again not sure about the 4.2. Lastly, that device you linked to looks very promising. Kinda like a Galaxy Player 5.0 2! I hadn't even heard of it until you. To sum it all up, They all work well as PMP's, and they all perform pretty similarly. That 70+ looks way better than any of the previous models, so if you could get your hands on that, go for it.
-arceusg
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720457 All specs are here. However I say the 4.0 is the best because it's more the all rounder PMP player, but the 5.0 has more custom roms. All the spec sheets for all galaxy player are found on Samsung's site. You click tech specs, and then hit the PDF file above.
Do you only want "Android only" players, because there are some other good ones too. The Sony Walkman Z is also android only and is dual core. You can try looking at the Cowon J3, or D3. But I would wait because Samsung is probably going to release a new Galaxy Player. That Device you linked is the Galaxy Player 70 Plus. It is Samsungs first dual core player, but it was only released in Korea. It is based of the Galaxy S2, similar to how the Galaxy player 4.0 is similar to the GS1.
It would be best to wait for the upcoming YP-GP1 with ICS,dual core and qHD.
The new model that's supposed to be released is similar to a Galaxy S3, however, it will be a whopping 5.8 inches, like, mini tablet sized.
I'd say go with the 4.2, it looks better, and quality is better as well, and as long as she's not going to be a heavy gamer of some sorts, she'll be fine with it.
Otherwise, if you plan to put a custom rom, I would say 5.0, although I dont have one myself (I have a 4.0) , since it has more ROMS to choose some, even though 4.0 looks promising.
There's also the Walkman Z, which is Sony's android PMP, and it looks alright, 1 GB of RAM, great if she's going to be a heavy user, although I don't own one of these either, so I have no real experience with it.
Anyways, maybe you should show her some of the choices, and let her pick from them herself.

5.8 sounds sweet, actually
she mainly wants it for music, web browsing, and games (mainly angry birds, minecraft PE, and fruit ninja), and i plan to throw GrooveIP on there eventually
ROMs aren't that important, but i do plan to help her root eventually.
Didn't know any of the walkmans were android powered, i'll have to check that out
and i do plan to let her make the final decision, if they're close. however, i want to give her the best options, not every option. I'm sure you understand.

It is also worth pointing out that the 4.0 (and 4.2 I think) has better sound quality because it has the wolfson DAC (5.0 has yamaha which is not bad but not as good either). You can enable voodoo sound on 4.0
4.0 also has better screen dpi because the resolution is more fitting on the screen size. 5.0 is better for movies IMO but be prepared to see some pixels :cyclops:

Right now the Walkman Z is looking like the best overall device, even with its lack of removable storage. Only things that irks me about it is the charging cable and the lack of cameras. I like the Walkman because the SoC (Tegra 2 + 1GB RAM) is the same as my tablet, so I now its going to be powerful enough. What CPU/RAM do the 4.0, 4.2, and 5.0 have?

Ultimately, there's no best or worst, it's about what's best for you. For this reason i have both the SGS 3.6 and 5.0. I like the 3.6 for its small size and extreme pocketability. I also use it as a bluetooth handsfree with my 7" 3G tablet. I love my 5.0 for the size of it's screen. It's still pocketable and i take it with me to outings and on weekends. It's very good for comfortably surfing the net on that large 5" screen or watching an odd movie.

I always made threads for every phone i had (rezound, DNA, S3 etc) showing off some video capabilities for my music stuff. i record a lot of guitar/bass/drum videos for my youtube channel, so i like to be able to just use my phone. the rezound was decent; video quality was great, but audio was crap. the DNA was just great all around, as was the S3.
so i present to you, some of my S4 videos! the quality is awesome, i think.

Hey guys!
I've just invested in some decent Sennheiser earphones (never use stock ones!) and I'm now looking for a music app to match! I've found the stock music player lacks the dynamic range for the different types of music I listen to. My main genres are progressive rock, rock, techno/house and occasional classical. I've dabbled with the trial of Power Amp and was quite impressed, but wanted to know what other people have tried and gone with before I part with my meagre amount of money! Audiophiles, lend me your ears!!!
What are your recommendations/thoughts?
Cheers guys.

On mine it's in settings, sounds and noticifications, sound quality and effects,
In here is adapt sound and other sound options they make my cheap blue tooth set sounds a little richer
And the adapt sound helps with my right ear hearing better than my left
imho poweramp is one of the best, has many frequency control, effects and a lot of theme like this:

Not looking to root I'm afraid. While I've rooted my last few devices, I use my GS6E for NFC payments and rooting would cause this to stop working. Also my 1 year old boy keeps me too busy these days!
I did have some UrBeats earphones with my One X a few years ago before I sold them, and after recent reports that they are nothing more than a brand name behind cheap Chinese made earphones, I'd rather steer clear of them. Quite happy with my Sennheisers!

I think that if it wasn't for the NFC payments and that I've only got the phone for another 11 months, I'd probably consider rooting. As for the headphones, perhaps you ended up with some fakes? Plenty of them out there which is a shame.

As for headphones and liking the sound or not, it depends on our music tastes and sound tastes greatly. Not all good headphones will be suitable for everyone.
I can recommend brainwavz and Soundmagic on my side. I have been using Brainwavz M3 with my S6 Edge and they sound great using Neutron. For desktop I have Soundpagic HP100 and they are great as well. Chinese, but if you read reviews on sites like Head-Fi.org, you will be surprised how good these are. I also have had Sennheiser MX980 for a few years and they sound nice.
The earphones I ended up getting are the Sennheiser CX 300-II. I know there are better ones out there for more money but considering I came from Logitech UE 200 they are a vast improvement, even on my laptop!
Just want to thank everyone for the replies. I'll probably end up going with Poweramp as I do like the features it offers and the different formats it plays. Quite a bit of my collection is in flac and although the stock player supports the format, the dynamic range of Poweramp is, imo greater.

Maven player? Jet audio? These 2 served me pretty good.
Viper audio if you're rooted. Not a player but a great way to control the sound
