You say you want a RAZR but have no idea what the differences are? Sounds like you just want to change phones. Go look up the specs for both and stop being so lazy expecting others to do it for you!

Don't worry, it's just the trolls of the wee hours.
But yeah, with the screen you'd have to find somewhere that has them where you can compare each one side by side.
Other than that, I side with the atrix.

Well frankly, you suck. When you make a thread, maybe put the fact you cannot see them in the stores (no other reason to buy them online). You usually put all the relevant info in the first post and not assume we just know
Razr is a beauty tho. Noticed some lag in the store...could have been because too many have touched/installed crap on it.

i used to open threads at defy section ppl were so nice but omg here every one is calling u suck n stuff coz u maybe couldn't explain much or they think the thread is useless , anyway i'd say i think i didnt offend someone in some way so you dont have to be rude just say somthing useful or pass by the thread and dont replay unless you people have some issue in your reallife and releasing some of it here

I had the RAZR and the only reason why I returned it is because it's too wide for my hands. The RAZR is 68.9mm compared to the Atrix which is 63.5mm. My hand would starting hurting after using the RAZR for only 20 mins. It's a matter of preference and which design you like better. Both are excelent phones. Very fast devices. Keep in mind the RAZR has a non removable battery and the battery life on the RAZR is not that great. Also the RAZR uses a microsim so if you have another phone that uses a regular sim, it's a pain to use the microsim adaptor if you switch devices often.

I see you, atrix forums are full of douchebags since the 1st day. I used to have an ATrix 4G and sold it to get the Razr. After 3 months of camping with the Razr, i put it in my drawer and bought a new Atrix today.
Main differences are the screen and design and that's mostly about it. Performance wise, Razr is snappier but Atrix isn't slower either. There're just some hiccups with the Atrix at times. Battery life is miles ahead with the Atrix than Razr.
If you're looking for a real upgrade over the Atrix, look for something else or wait for the quadcore madness expected very soon.

Thanks alot dude , i had a problem with my Atrix4g there is a white strips coming on the screen every couple of seconds i guess its factory failure so i sent it back i was so going to Razr but now u kinda changed my mind

No problem, glad if i could help. If they dont charge you for the replacement razr, that is fine. Otherwise dont spend a penny for it

My friend has a Razr and we frequently use each other's phones. It does seem that, stock, the Razr is much more smooth. It has a better camera and better battery life. Other than that, I would say there isn't much of a difference. I think his scored in the low 2000s on Quadrant? My Atrix scores roughly 4000, but you wouldn't think there was that much of a difference between the phones.
If I were you, I wouldn't bother with the Razr. It's not that much better.

Atrix vs HTC Inspire

Hi im upgrading from an Incite XD and im wondering if i should buy an Inspire or the Atrix.. this question is killing me and i dont have an answer yet :S so which one do you think can be the best choice ? i will use my phone to read many stuff in the internet but i dont know what is better for this... the inpsire big screen so i dont have to zoom in too much or the atrix qhd resolution ? also the inspire is cheaper but if the atrix worth it i could buy it and the last thing is that i like to customize my phone and being able to unlock it so i can use it in mexico i think that both can be unlocked but maybe im wrong so please what do you think is the best option for me ? thanks
I think what it comes down to is they are both excellent phones but you have to make a choice between the Atrix's locked bootloader but more or the Inspire's poor battery life.
Go to your AT&T store and play with both of the phones before you decide to purchase either one. Don't let a bunch of people you never met in your life decide for you.

RAZR - should i go for it?

Hi Guys,
I've been considering between getting this or a Galaxy Nexus. I'd pretty much almost decided on the RAZR due to the superior build quality, but after looking on here; im now not too sure - 10 pages of the General Discussion threads paints an image of doom and gloom, faulty displays, stuck pixels, freezing, overheating etc.
Do you guys who own one of these recommend it or should i avoid and go for the Plasticy Nexus?
Look forward to hearing your opinions and any useful advice.
Cheers
Paul
I say no. Get the Nexus! Especially if you like to flash new roms!! Or if you want the Razr, get the Nexus and I'll trade you!!!
Wait for the razr maxx...awesome 3300 mah battery!
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
I am looking between razr and rezound due to reception issues with nexus-i already had the charge and dealt with the reception woes from Samsung. Too bad reception is so bad it ruins the otherwise superior choice
I think you'd really like the RAZR, but wait for the MAXX so you don't have to worry about conserving battery. The extra thickness will make it more comfortable to hold as well.
Cheers for the advice guys.
Im still not sure what to go for though
I liked the build quality and design of the RAZR and actually like how slim it is. Not too fussed about the bigger battery in the RAZR Maxx - i generally stick my phone on charge every night so im sure the RAZR would get me through a day safely to be charged up and ready to go the next day.
The Nexus i'm interested in the HD display and Ice Cream Sandwich but im not too keen on the design and cheap look and feel of the device. It just seems to lack something i cant put my finger on.
The risk of getting a RAZR with issues seems to be too high though - why cant i have the Nexus put into the RAZR shell!!
paulrgod, I agree with alexh037 in saying wait for the Droid Razr Maxx (if possible). I went from the Samsung Fascinate (loved it) and wanted the Galaxy S II phone, but Verizon is the only carrier which decided to skip the Galaxy S II and go straight to the Nexus. I looked at the Nexus, the Razr, and the Rezound and the Razr won out. I understand the camera short commings, but I don't use my phone as my "main" means of photography, I use it as a phone and appointment keeper. The reception this thing has beats the Fasinate hands down. And ditto with sound quality (and loudness). The Razr is very easy to understand people I am talking with, and they say I am crystal clear even with a lot of background noise going on.
My only dissapointment is the Razr was released to the world in November 2011, and here it is two months later and the Razr Maxx is being released with almost twice the battery. Sucks for us early adopters!
I personally don't think it sucks. The original RAZR is amazingly SLIM. The new one is just .. sorry - FAT. And the current battery is OK. Most Android phones run on battery for one, max two days and you will achieve this with RAZR, too.
It depends on what u want from your phone i guess. I like both of them. But i definitely like how the razr looks and feels better then the nexus. But my only concern is getting back to stock using the fastboot files. Seems like alot of people are having trouble doin it. The nexus I think is pretty much impossible to brick and your able to unlock it. But i really don't care about a locked bootloader. I care about how difficult it is to get back to stock if u root the razr and something goes way wrong.

I've read somewhere that the gnex's antenna is lacking.... that is a deal breaker for me... that's why I chose the RAZR, locked bootloader didn't stop my DroidX from getting quite a handful of roms, so I jumped on the RAZR wagon and am loving it

Having had both I would recommend the Galaxy Nexus.
I used the Razr for about 5-6 weeks before picking up a Nexus. I really like the Razr and it is a great phone. I ended up having some issues with it though and that is what caused me to switch.
What I took into consideration:
Not receiving all text. People would show me the time stamped text on their phone, and I had not received in on mine hours later. (This was not a sim issue since I am using the same sim in my Nexus)
Locked bootloader. I know this had been talked about to death, but it is what it is. I never rooted my Razr because I had a Bionic before. I rooted my Bionic and one of the biggest draw-backs on the Bionic was the chance of being stuck with a hybrid off the update path. I just didn't want to deal with that on the Razr.
Lastly the screen on the Nexus got me. Watch the same youtube HD video, or put the same HD wallpaper on both phones and there is a big difference. More than I really thought there would be. For me, the screen is the biggest part of the phone. It hard to explain internals to the everyday person, but everyone can see the screen.
I also really like the feel of the Nexus in my hand. And as far as build quality, I have never known anyone to have a phone disintegrate in their hands. The Razr has superb build quality, but the Nexus isn't made out of tissue paper either.
Both phones are great! At the end of the day you need to decide which features are the most important to you. Then pick the one that suits you. If you need a large amount of storage then definitely pick the Razr. Just remember its not the do or die situation everyone makes it out to be. Pick what you like. Its like choosing between Ferrari or Lamborghini, Mercedes or BMW.

This would be a big deal for anyone if it were true. but its not. Its only the way the signal is reported on the phone. Technically the Nexus is more accurate. The Razr and others display an inflated signal.
I will say that on the Bionic and Razr (although not near as bad as the Bionic) i did drop in and out of 4G regularly. Sometimes it would say I have 4G or I would be on wifi, but I would have no data connectivity. I would have to toggle airplane or wifi to get data back.
I live in a market that has had 4G for over a year now and I have had solid coverage since my Thunderbolt.
Yes, you should go for it. Mind you that most of those whiners are trolls who work as professional sh*t throwers. Razr is a durable and yet fast device. It works as it should out of the box. It didn't get a major update yet but its soon. All of the minor bugs will be corrected with the ICS build.
Thanks again for the feedback guys - i guess i need some more hands on time with both handsets to make up my mind. I'll see if i can get hands on tomorrow!
Something else you may want to consider is support behind the phone.
I have noticed the Razr threads become less and less active. Take a second and just scroll through the Nexus forums, then the Razr. The difference is night and day. The Razr forum is surprisingly sparse. This may be the work of an OCD Mod or just a lethargic user base. Its not a bad thing as long as any help you need will be there when you need it. Just worth taking under consideration.
Happy hunting.

not necessarily "razr" threads, but motorola threads as a whole. very little "community" in most motorola threads compared to others.
very true though. I remember when i first picked up the Atrix on release day. For 2 weeks, there are SO little development updates. But about 8 months prior when I picked up the HTC Evo, the threads were updating almost non-stop.
Motorola released lots of "major" and "flagship" phones, but all of the phones pretty much failed to deliver in so many facets. While I've still got love for motorola, i cannot say i am not disappointed.
I have yet to see a device on Verizon that is open (no locked bootloader) and still gets decent GPS/reception. And I like using microSD cards, so I didn't go with the nexus.

This is true.

Is there anything better in the razor that Galaxy nexus doesnt have

So im still debating of getting a razor since the maxx came out however i still havent found something that the razor is better in from the nexus. As right now i just know the razor has better signal and sound/call quality (call quality i could careless about as i dont call that much). The very very main thing thats keeping me away from the razor is the locked bootloader and the possibility of a dev-dead device. ICS, not a big deal razor will get it eventually. So back to the main thing, what is there about the razor that is "WOW OMFG" over the nexus? CPU? GPU? Im super frustrated over this as verizon has only 1 exchange and i do not wanna screw it up.
Build Quality.
The droid RAZR has one of the best hardware specifications in the market, however there are some phones which got better hardware like Galaxy Note for example.
But the WOW about the droid RAZR which I couldn't find in any other android phone is it's build quality and it's solid feel. It's so sexy. Kelvar fabrics on the back, gorilla glass on the front, coating around the hardware which protects it from water, amazingly thin. I love my RAZR
Along with it's smart acessories, just check the look on your friends when you attach you're phone to the laptop dock and start using it as your laptop.
When I used to compare my previous android phones with iPhone I used to feel that my phone is cheaper.
With the RAZR you wont get that feeling.

It's comments like this that kill the internet, if you have an opinion share it. If not, bugger off. I'm pretty sure people know how to google, they got here, right?
ANYWAY, back on the topic:
Hardware wise - the only thing the Gnex has that the RAZR doesn't is NFC and a slightly curved screen. The Gnex's camera is only 5mp I belive, whereas the RAZR's is 8 - So hardwarewise, I'd go with the RAZR
Feeling - like stated, the RAZR feels solid and amazing in your hands. It's a little big (some people's thumbs cant reach all the way across), but for most that isn't a deal breaker. The curve of the Gnex literally does nothing for me. and the Gnex kinda has that plasticy feel that does make it seem cheap.
Software - yes Gnex has ICS, and as everyone knows, the RAZR is poised toget it. BUT Gingerbread right now isn't too shabby on it. The RAZR has the best stock OS I've seen. I actually have turned down ROMs because the stock is sexy, sleek and works very well with the device.
Hackability - This is the sad part for me.
The Gnex has an unlocked bootloader and some pretty amazing ROMs already.
Moto seems hellbent on not unlocking the bootloader, so ROM development has to get creative on the RAZR, there's some great ROMs, but they're "fun" to build and implement.
Hope that helps a little.

thank you for the neat rightup. got me leaning now towards the razr maxx. I release now how cheap the nexus is.
I originally purchased the RAZR on release day, and really liked it. But the inner hacker in me was let down. Until recently there was no SBF file, and only one ROM for it (for the Verizon RAZR), and no unlocked bootloader. So I gave it to the wife and bought myself a Galaxy Nexus. And it pacifies the inner hacker, being VERY difficult to brick. I truly like both. If you want a phone that is aesthetically pleasing, feels like granite, but you arent too in to messing with it, then the RAZR is for you. If you want to overclock it until it bleeds electrons and try out ROM after ROM after ROM, then the GNex is for you.

The RAZR overall has better specs. So in the long run, when it get ICS, it'll be better than Nexus. Hope that helps; dry up those tears.

I run a group on Yahoo. We have archives going back to 1996. But when someone asks a question that has been asked many times before, we answer it. Because we are a community, and we help and support one another, and the answer may be different now than it was then. This is in part a social place, so let's be sociable and help one another. It will pay dividends in the long run.

Having had both, i like the RAZR better. ICS seems buggy and nexus is going to be a vanilla phone. I for one hate AOSP and that's what you get, no bells and whistles. It feels bigger, wierd and looks ugly to me. Webtop is something that i use daily and 3 co-workers have bought a razr because of just seeing my phone. nobody even game my Nexus a second look.

an apology goes a long way here. We appreciate that.
Just a note to that. I'm a senior programmer and what makes me that is not just how awesome my skills are, but how well I teach it to others. I'm bombarded by novice questions all the time and many times i have to repeat myself in the same answer. But its more than just being nice, it grows the company for me to share even if it pains me. A prosperous company will circle back to prosper me. I could answer "didn't i tell you that last week, or Check your email, it was emailed a month ago to the group" but that will just make them not to want to ask, learn, and eventually I will be the only one that knows how to do it. Which is not good for anyone.
If people who ask novice questions here are put off, they will leave. If they learn, perhaps they can learn enough to become developers and perhaps give you the next greatest ROM here. At least that's how i think of it.
I apologize myself for elaborating, but on the surface it appears as two wrongs. Thought it was worth the explanation as to why we came down on you too. Good to see we all see the bigger picture here.
No one has mentioned the web top yet. That is a big feature for me.
There are also some awesome devs working on this phone at droidrzr and they have been cranking out the ROMs over the last month. There is a pretty good variety including ICS

Intesting Question.
There is no doubt that the Razr has a superior build quality. I have the Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket and judging from the build of the SII the Razr if far superior, as far as design the SII is a bit generic since this design is starting to be dated. The Razr has an interesting design somewhat staying away from the rectangle that Apple is trying to lay claim to. The Razr seems very solid in feel and I notice no creaks, or loose fitting parts. Trust me I've had 2 Razrs both was returned to Rogers and the Third I'm using as a spare at the moment. All three had a really good build quality, aside from that OS has somewhat of an issue. What I did notice is that I believe the software has something to do with the Random shutdowns and the second one just dieing. The Third one has been sent to repair and has been reflashed, having the phone on for 2 days I had no random reboot or shutdown so far. It looks as thought build is great but os or firmware has issues.
And here i am. Didnt feel like waiting till tmr so i went out and go it today. I dont know what i was thinking picking up the nexus. Well i have some studing to do on how to root, flash. Thank you guys for convincing me to go with the razr. Its one great device, i already love it like i did my atrix 4g.

Aside from what i read so far.
*Smart actions - auto turn on vibrate when i get to work, church etc. Reminx me to charge battery, save battery etc.
*motocast - i access or stream files from my home server like they were on my phone. Personal cloud!
Loud speakerphone - pretty important to me.
And moto accessories can't be beat.
I couldn't go back to a normal car dock. The built in car software that is triggered by the dock is amazing.
Webtop laptop option and more
The Gnex has non of the above.

Very Good point as well. Although I don't use the webtop - that is certainly a selling point for the RAZR.

Is the motorola droid razr worth it?

i am gonna get a new phone, and i am very confused between the gs2 and droid razr,, is the phone worth it?

RAZR is goood...SGS II just feels a little cheap...but its your call...and also, there is a big ho-hum about the unlocked bootloader...if u not into that kind of tweaking, it is the best Android device out there...just make sure the piece is manufactured before 26th October 2011...
all the best!
Samsung has horrible outgoing voice quality so the person you are speaking with will have a very hard time understanding you. RAZR has excellent outgoing voice quality. This may or may not be important to you. this obviously is not important to most people as samsung continues to sell zillions of phones.

Why?
After having a Samsung Charge, I'll never own another Samsung device. Ever! That was the worse phone. Also, I have a Samsung refrigerator and it's horrible too. Based on my Samsung experiences, I'll never own another Samsung device. When I was looking at tablets, everyone kept saying, get the Samsung. It's the greatest. Please. My ASUS Prime blows the Galaxy tablet away!

Razr all the way! The phones are pretty similar, great phones both, but the design and materials feel amazing when you have the razr in your hands.

I'm choosing a Razr Maxx over my current Galaxy Nexus for the simple fact that I get full signal inside of buildings when I'm on base with the Razr. The Nexus struggles to pick up anything.

it will take time yeah but its soon going to get ics update so i can do without extra development for now, and im pretty sure some devs will eventually look into it
They are on different carriers so it depends big on that too. I had the Epic Touch (GS2) on Sprint. Great phone, horrible service. I have the Droid Maxx right now.
What carrier are you looking to join?
In my personal opinion software wise I like the GS2 more. It's easier and faster (snappier). The UI looks a lot better to me. I wished Verizon had a variant of the GS2 or at least I hope they get the GS3 that's gonna come out. Only things the Droid Maxx has better is build quality, battery life, and wireless radio is insanely better.
I found RAZR much more solid built & expensive looking.
And if you get your razr for 300Euro only as I did, no doubt - it's the best choise!

Completely disagreed! Looks awesome. Like a brick. That's what I like. The only one reason why I choose Razr is Sony wasn't in the market at that time.
I will keep an eye on xperia s development section and MAYBE will change my razr for Xperia at the end of this year.
I didn't read the whole thread before I posted, my bad. But if you were looking for a phone for development the best choice currently would of been the Galaxy Nexus. Google phones are made for development.

[Welcome] Incredible -> Droid X2 Transition

Hi. I'm not sure if this is appropriate, but what the heck. I've owned an HTC Incredible for almost 24 months and this past Saturday I dropped it glass first onto the concrete. Needless to say, I have an x2 UPS should be dropping off at my house today. I'm looking forward to the larger screen and dual core CPU.
After browsing the developer forums, I am disappointed how little ROM selection there is. I read this is because Motorola locks down their system. I had the choice of an Incredible 2 or this. I chose this, so I hope I won't be disappointed.
About me: I have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, so I hope to help test out ROMs as much as possible after I root. Which shouldn't take too long to talk myself into it . I'm more of a lurker than a poster. That's all for now.

Welcome. Since you are coming from an HTC phone, you may get a little frustrated with how much you cant do on a Motorola phone. BUT, we do have awesome developers who make awesome ROMs for our phones. I suggest Eclipse or CM7. And I would forget how you used a rooted HTC and learn from scratch with your DX2. For instance, if you have used ROM manager or anything similar, don't use it with your DX2. A lot of people mess up there phones with that. We dont use ClockworkMod Recovery, but an alternative called Bootstrap Recovery. Since our phones are locked down, we have to be tethered to a wall charger to use this. No flashing on the go for us. And ICS is a ways away from getting onto our phones. Just a few things we have to deal with. Its still a nice phone.

Though stuff is bleak now and people like me recently moved to other phones like the nexus or dinc2 or resound, still dragonzkiller is working on CM9 and that should immensely help this device. Right now 2 of the best ROMs are CM7 and eclipse, which is a huge complement to eclipse as it is based on blur....
Oh crap, btw pray to god that your phone does NOT have 2.3.5 OTA on it. If so, you cannot root it. Yet.

With it being more difficult to flash, maybe I'll have a more operable phone lol. On a more serious note, after reading that HTC is releasing ICS for the Incredible 2 I am somewhat disappointed for not choosing it. I'm happy to try a Motorola phone again thought and will enjoy the 0.3" larger screen, my main reason for talking insurance into giving me this phone. Anyways, thanks for the information, it will come in handy on down the road.
Sad to hear there's only 2 main ROMs people use. I'm crossing my fingers for having 2.3.4 .
It probably will have 235 http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x2-hacks/205470-bummer-full-2-3-5-1-3-418-root-broken.html

To be brutally honest, I believe the incredible 2 has a much higher satisfaction rate compared to the X2. *cough cough* that's why I was going to get the Inc2 until I saw Rezound at a reasonable price
But as said, there are some developers that make X2 quaint =)

The Incredible 2 didn't even pop in my mind to be honest.
My phone has 2.3.4, let the fun begin . The phone seems pretty quick so far, except when unlocking. Does the snappiness end over time like I've heard?
I've had both, dinc2 is far better.
no offense to dx2 devs though. Dzk, nitro and company are the best.

Yes. Yes, it does end. Anyway, the good news is you are on 2.3.4 and thereby been spared by the tyranny of Moto, but by just. Your best bet is CM7/Eclipse and soon CM9... Just don't ask for ETAs, else you'll suffer the wrath of the Dragon!
And don't dare update to 2.3.5. In fact, just root that damn thing and install CM7/Eclipse to avoid being nagged by the phone to update, when the damned update does arrive.. Enjoy (I can't say that with a straight face, sigh) your device as much as possible. And I hope I and others didn't rain on your parade too much. Have fun with the X2...

If by rain on my parade you mean make me regret getting this phone... . I do enjoy the slightly larger screen and resolution so that's trade off enough for me. But if it does end up like the post you linked, dinc2 here I come.
After not even having the phone activated for 24 hours I'm having trouble. It's the infamous sdcard music playback skipping I've read about . This happens intermittently, sometimes few skips sometimes many. Called Asurion, they told me to take the battery out and hold power down for 15 seconds. We'll see how it does at work tomorrow.
Edit: This happens with the phone idol running PowerAMP with music from 128 KBPS all the way to 2580KBPS. It gets worse downloading updates on 3G.
Youll never completely get rid of that, and its not the sdcard it dies it on internal as well, im looking into new samsung phones, done with motorola soon as I find what i want. Without nitro, dkz, and the rest of our gang i would have been gone months ago. But cm7 and eclipse are both amazing compared to what this was out of the box
from my X2 roaming the north
If you go into power amp setings and find the buffering option and select the largest one it may help the skipping. I came from the original droidx and i was expecting a better phone but turned out to be worse. I am just glad that we have any devs working on this phone! they have done alot for it.
