[ROM][NC] Unofficial CM9 Nightly builds - with/without OpenGL - Nook Color Android Development

As of 9/4 opengl is enabled on all builds (so no more double builds each night) and hardware UI acceleration is working. Thanks krylon360 for the work
In the same spirit as Samiam303 I've been building and hosting nightly builds of CM9 for the community to use. In particular I'm now building nightlies with OpenGL rendering turned on in addition to non-openGL builds (same as Samiam303). These builds are all straight sync with CM source with no additional mods. Builds are sync'd at 3am EST for non-openGL and 4am EST for openGL - they will be available to download approx 15 mins after their sync times.
So what does OpenGL rendering mean? It means we have some form of hardware acceleration for the UI and apps. It is not full hw accel and it is not hw video decoding. The couple of things you'll notice work is wallpaper scrolling in the launcher and chrome beta will mostly work to render webpages but will fc if you go into settings. Flash also somewhat works - I've found you definitely need to OC to get some flash videos to work, most still are not smooth.
The downside to it seems to vary user to user, some people report sluggish responses and some get lock ups, a few have no problems at all..
Either way, give them a try and report back. Please try to keep the thread on topic of these builds only, other mods can be flashed over, but that discussion should be in the respective thread. I'd also like to revisit keyodi's suggestion here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22277804#post22277804) - a few people reported good results with that change. Any more feedback?
Downloads
There's a few ways to get the builds:
1) Browse the hosted folder here: http://techerrata.com/browse/nightly_kangs/encore
2) Follow @CM_Encore on twitter for announcements of the builds as they hit the host (PLEASE NOTE: @CM_Encore IS A TWITTER BOT - don't bother tweeting at it)
3) *NEW* Use the Goo Manager app to receive notifications of new builds and download them directly on your nook. With Goo Manager you can also get incremental updates, see my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25441065#post25441065
Latest ICS gapps can be found here http://goo-inside.me/gapps or mirrored here http://techerrata.com/browse/gapps
Updates
For the latest updates/announcements follow me on twitter, or check back here.
5/9/12: Goo Manager now comes pre-installed to make updating as easy as possible
4/28/12: Incremental updates are available for the flash-a-holics: See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25441065#post25441065
3/10/12: Due to some merges yesterday you may need to reflash gapps when going from a nightly prior to 3/9 to later than 3/9
Credit and Thanks
Thanks to fattire, dalingrin and the rest of the CM encore theme for making this possible. Thanks to fellow TeamWin members Kevank for providing the hosting and to s0up for the Goo app.

Ahhhhh firsttt! Downloading now and about to flash! Thanks man!!

Nightlies
Can't wait to flash these

Flashed the latest opengl version and it seems a bit laggy. I'm gonna give it a while to settle in before I pass full judgement. Still awesome to see ics on the ole nook color. Thanks.
»»DARKSIDE««

yeah, have to confirm with the lag on the 3-1-2012 build. I was using ur 2-27-2012 build before this and app drawer was much smoother. Not sure what changed upstream. But....

So you are not syncing with any of the FatTire Nook Color specific fixes?

Looks excellent, You tube a few games work great.
A little lethargic... but all in all WooHoo
Excellent work, may be daily driver...

Just FYI all, I've been running the 02-20-2012 OpenGL since about the 21st and I've had only two lockups and otherwise running great, vs about one hard lockup a day on average. I should update, just haven't since it's working so well.

i just got this installed, and am starting to enjoy it!
I am running the 3/2/2012 and the latest gaaps . . .

Is it possible to switch over to the non-OpenGL version from the OpenGL ROM just by flashing over without wiping?
Also I switched from 3-1-2012 OpenGL to 3-3-2012 OpenGL and found a huge jump in performance in Quadrant, and subjectively it definitely feels snappier:
3-1-2012 OpenGL
Total: 1014
CPU: 1589
Mem: 320
I/O: 2113
2D: 144
3D: 902
3-3-2012 OpenGL
Total: 1650
CPU: 1644
Mem: 1080
I/O: 4324
2D: 360
3D: 843
Which is getting close to the performance of CM7 which I got:
CM7
Total: 2030
CPU: 1568
Mem: 1005
I/O: 6136
2D: 290
3D: 1152

Yes it's fine to do that, just wipe cache.

Hi. First of all thanks again for all the work you guys are putting in to bring ICS to the nook color.
I don't know if this is a known issue or not but I just installed the latest nightly and I'm no longer able to see my Wifi network.
I have ICS installed on my HTC Desire and it sees the wifi just fine.

as advised I am posting my opengl comments here. running "update-cm-9.0.0-encore-KANG-20120301-080001-opengl-signed.zip" and find everything working great. Just want to mention I didn't have any lockups until I installed Chrome Beta. After trying a few times and finally managing to uninstall it I have not had another freeze.

]This is a pretty major overhaul of Gingerbread for Streak 5
This is collaboration between myself and DjSteve, with some huge contributions from ADW_Maniac and others, you know who you are
****NEW INFO*****
I've been given a present today from someone in the East. so I think its fair that I pass it on...
a kernel from a gb rom, with some appropriate files to go with it.
****NEW INFO*****
YOU must flash these AMSS & DSP to go with it..
If you don't know how to flash AMSS & dsp then DO NOT TRY THIS
I'm not responsible for USER ERROR
there is no overclock or extra governers, but tbh you don't need them at the moment,
this is quick and stable staggeringly so. it will do for a few weeks!
now onto the nice stuff
this is a 2.3.3 rom, its pretty quick overall, and fairly stable.
it has EXT4 fs (tweaked till its nipples bleed)
it has some very funky memory hacks
OLD INFO -out of date-
the kernel is based on Dells alpha kernel code, (which is why some stuff doesn't work too well)
Click to collapse
its a mix of lots of different things from AOSP code, to dell binaries (we're changing what we can as we go, but frankly its not easy reverse engineering these)
3d scores, IO scores are pretty quick
Overall its very responsive rom
Linpack scores > 41
Fingerprint is set to 2.3.3 CRESPO to allow all market apps to be shown
Its not themed at all, so native gingerbread stylee
It has a modified HOSTS file to block adverts
I've included the following key functional FREE apps (support their devs please)
VTL launcher, its a launcher designed for landscape and very configurable, also uses ADW themes
total commander rc1
volume Plus (from the mighty meltus),its gingerbread so we can have a proper equalizer!
Clocksync (helps with the timedrift)
Hackers Keyboard (stock keyboard but better!)
YOU MAY NEED TO FACTORY RESET, especially if you flash it over a 2.2 rom
If you're flashing over 2.3 build then at least delete dalvik cache.
but factory reset is recommended
BACK UP YOUR SDCARD BEFORE FLASHING (at least the any photos!) failure to do so may see them eaten by the phantom photo fancier.
thoroughly recommend the following apps to go with this
from market
setdns
setcpu
getjar
market 313
droidiris
lgCamera (very tweakable 720p camcorder!)
Locales2
Appbrain Market
Fastweb install (works fully here)
GET YOUR COUNTRIES GPS.conf from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233359
extract it and copy it (with total commander) to etc/gps.conf
if wifi doesn't work then you may need to change the number of channels in the wifi advanced menu

Fards, et'al, Again thank you for all that you do and have done. Quick question in the original GB had "THIS BASEBAND UPDATE IS REQUIRED FOR GPS AND SOME OTHER THINGS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY
its an engineering modified baseband that works better for 2.3
Baseband File Download:
Primary Download Site: http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/amss.mbn (now disabled due to bricking issues, never bricked mine, but removed when I heard about the issue)
THIS DSP FILE MUST ALSO BE UPDATED DUE TO CHANGED LIBRARIES IN 2.3
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/dsp1.mbn
flash this using the fastboot command fastboot -i 0x413c flash dsp1 dsp1.mbn"
Have installed the dsp1, but has the amss.mbn file ever been fixed or am I ok running 353 (am on ATT so just went with their latest BB)?
StreakDroid2_3Beta2 is a MUST have! The lEaK3d "Asian" kernel does not overclock nor VPN (yet). LeAked drivers work and can be tweaked / themed. Thank you Dell (I guess). But it is a proper GB build. There is no more Mic /Sensors/Headset/power drain issues! Fantastic!
Please DONT post about themes or theme related issues here. Instead, join us in the themes forum GB_Streak5 Theme
The mic/sensors/headset doesn't work on my streak and the power drain is quite high...

@fards Thank you so much for all of the hard work and effort that went into this. Sometimes it's easy to forget that there is still a whole lot of people working on developing for the Streak, especially when it seems like Dell forgot about us. Big props on this new release!
This is a great rom. Donation coming your way on payday (BTW way is the donate link ).
I noticed the CRT screen off animation didnt work so I tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12515089. That was a big mistake. So I was wondering how hard it would be to include with the ROM? Not a big deal just a neat little feature of gingerbread.
Also just wanted to note that both my headsets with a mic/control work perfectly. The only one that doesn't is my plain jane ear buds.
Thanks again. This ROM is great thus far.
Wifi not working. Cant connect

Thanks fards, house moving, so will try this one out on weekend as normality returns! Well done!
Wont be installing yet as I need stability, but I appreciate the effort more than I can express. Looking forward to future builds. Thank you for your time, will drop a donation your way soon as I can.
vtl launcher not working properly
fire the rom twice--
first time deleted dalvik cache battery stats cache factory resetted and loaded the rom--factory reset again- the rom loaded but the home screen does not show full vtl launcher.
loaded the crt animation off also but no improvement
tried the honeycomb them 1.4 but the rom struck at android them and began recycling at this point and after few minutes put up a message that launcher not responding
second time---
deleted dalvik cache battery stats cache and factory resetted and loaded second time--the rom loaded but the home screen does not show full vtl launcher
Thanks fards for gb 2.3.....!

Flashed it about an hour ago. After first boot I got the first "freeze" when defining my google account. But since then, it seems to work better than expected. Installed Launcherpro since the VT Launcher seems a little on the slow side. Keep up the great work Fards, thank you for this release.

OaT's Light n Tasty

Anyone else having problems installing the WIFI Drivers on-top of the latest OaT's Light n Tasty build?
I installed release dated 05/08/12 as usual (Cache, Dalvik, etc) install on-top of a previous OaT build and the latest Google Apps (OaT's "Light n Tasty" GApps (04/29) without problems and immediately began to have WIFI problems with the default build.
As suggested, I tried to install the Flashable ath6kl zip posted for LnT and the install completes, but the system locks-up showing Cyanogen - Loading message and never proceeds to the default ANDROID default boot screen.
I'd place this message in the OaT Light n Tasty developer build folder, but I don't have right to post there yet (need 10 posts and I'm only up to 5), so that is why I'm posting here.
Either way, I was able to reapply the 5/8 build and am surviving with the default CM9 WIFI drivers that kinda work sometime and not others.
Any help would be appreciated and thanks for the support! Sorli...
OaT posted today that he found out the wifi driver package he posted was broken. I would suggest that you try the 4/28 version B and see if that works better for you until a new version is posted.
Corporate Mail Issues?
Wanted to pick this thread back up for current discussions around the JellyBean development.
Is anyone else having issues getting the Corporate e-mail account to process on the 8/19 build of CM10? I have not been able to get my Corporate mail to successfully connect, and I've replicated the settings from my Droid 3 that happens to be running a CM10 build as well.
How does one reinstall the APKs for Corporate/Exchange e-mail? I may need to try this, but have not installed APKs on my own.
Any help or guidance is appreciated.
(Not calling this a bug, since OaT hasn't been asking for bugs given the early development stage of his ROM.)

Simply download the APK on your tablet from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557111
When complete, click the notification and it will prompt you to install it. When it tells you it's complete, just click Done and you're ready to roll!
The end has come to OaT and CM10!
Disappointing news - OaT ROM is discontinued as the dev wasn't seeing the love from the users.
I think this indicates the end of the TouchPad and Android unless CM9 moves forward, or someone picks up CM10 from an old ROM that's floating around the internet.
Right now, I haven't seen much of anything, and Rev Kyle isn't sounding optimistic.
Boo! :crying:

Just wanted to toss out my 2 cents...Since owning 2 touchpads, i've have always been running OAT's rom since day one and CM9 on the other
Both ROM's have always rocked solid outside the basic issues....Kudos to the Dev's for that!
Currently, i've been running 07-29 since day off release and it has been my daily driver....never took the time to install the Beats version, as i was content with the original...i did DL the OaT-JB version and even that was rocking.
OAT it's a shame we will not see the love you've have had for the touchpad....ill miss the updates and following the thread.
PLEASE if you decide to give it a go again, id be more than happy to assist with any "testing".
Thanks for such great work and making my HPTP a very useable tablet. Till then.....

I'm really bummed to hear OAT steeping away from TP updates and support.
I like many did not have enough credits on xda-developers forums to post messages and replies when changes were made and I had no way of supporting his efforts on this forum. Shame and not a big surprise and hopefully things and TP support continues. Sorli...

like the rom so far very peppy however I am not a fan of golauncher never looked right for me. I am using Holo Launcher HD it is very peppy for my usage now I don't get why someone was having force close problems with it as it has been working great for me. The one thing I love about it is that gestures can be customized and it is not a premium feature.

I tried Holo launcher as I use that on my other devices...
But on my TP set to 120DPI, I think it looked horrid. I could not stand the fact that the icons were looking fuzzy and odd sizes... It looked fine at the default 160DPI but I like mine set at 120 and it was had. I had to go back to GoLauncher and it looks better for me. I have not tried ADW EX but for now, until CM10 becomes available (stable and not as nightly) I will stick with GoLauncher.

[Q] Installation of Jokersax 0.7.0.0

If I am currently on jokersax beta 0.6.9.2, can I just flash the updated rom over my current version? Or do I have to wipe data and cache in order to flash it? Because I've been thinking about getting around to updating but would rather not lose anything. My other question is if the update to 0.7.0.0 would be worth it. Is there large fixes or just small bug fixes? Thanks ahead of time for your help.

I would not recommend it. Version 7 was made primarily as a base for a Jellybean port that Joker was working on, and appears to use a different GPU driver that fixes browser rotation but also lowers performance. You're better off waiting for the next version.
OK. I've been considering just waiting until a stable release anyway. So, now I think I will. Thanks.

As my experiences in these CM9s, the 0.6.9.3 is most stable. But like any other CM9, the camera issue is really big to have been preventing me to install. Additionally, the FingerPrint scanner has never worked, either.
Let's keep waiting till the official ICS will be realeased by Moto

No need to wipe anything. Just install the zip for updates. And yes, it is better.
There are two different roms:
0.7.0.0 is the update
0.7.0.0 Special has Jelly Bean elements. It is a work in progress.
So, once the atrix gets an official ICS update from Motorola, and we get a stable build of CM9, will we have to wait until the official 4.1 update to get a stable release of CM10?

There is no guarantee of an official 4.1. But we will get CM10 in some form.

You are confusing stable with compatible. Stable means all of the bugs have been worked out. We will not know if ICS drivers are compatible with JB until they are released.
If ICS drivers are not compatible with JB, major aspects of JB can still be ported to ICS (though it will probably not be the same as pure JB).
OK, thanks! That's just the explanation I needed.
0.7.0.0 issues
I installed from 6.9.1 to 0.7.0.0 last night and would like to report my findings. Let me start by saying I am new to the whole changing ROMs and kernels etc. so I am sure I haven't checked everything just yet. The problems I have found so far are as follows:
1. When using the ICS or ICS+ browser it seems to randomly decide to reset itself back to the initial google page. Iknow I read a post somewhere that reported Opera browser was not working either. Anyone know of a working browser for this release?
2. There is an issue with watching online video. I can watch streams from CNN, YouTube, Fox News just fine. When trying to watch anything on Netflix I only get audio with a black video screen.
3. Battery so far seems to be lasting about the same as 6.9.1 but I probably need more time to make a better evaluation.
4. Camera is working fine. Of course the Video camera is not working.
I am using Apex launcher with Jelly Bean theme and no issues. The only reason I am posting here instead of in the development thread is because I do not have enough posts yet.

Follows are outstanding issues over ICS roms which are still in waiting for resolving:
1. Camcoder (video recoder)
2. FingerPrint scanner
3. 2D renderer

5. Crystal Talk (call noise canceller)

A quick note on Nightlies: NIGHTLIES ARE DEVELOPMENT BUILDS. They are automatically generated every now and then, and represent the compilation of the latest commits to the code repository. While every effort is made ensure that the commits that are accepted are stable and do not have a negative impact to the overall performance and function of the builds it is not possible to test every aspect of a commits impact to the overall repo prior to it’s inclusion in a given build. As a result it is entirely possible that instabilities may be introduced as a result of a given days commits. That is the nature of the nightly system, and the risk that is taken using the latest code changes to the project.
EOS is an AOSP based rom. It is developed and maintained by Team EOS and is the culmination of our own in house development efforts.

Seriously...I love developers so much that I donate a ton of cash, but every ROM thread really needs to include working vs. not-working sections right in the first post.
Based on the post as it is right now, I have no idea if stable vs not, no idea if fully functional vs not...really, nothing but a shot in the dark, it seems.

Well, it does explicitly say NIGHTLIES... which really aren't guaranteed to be stable... but yes, it does not state what works and what doesn't...
I guess I know what I'll be doing at work tomorrow. ;-)
Thanks!
Jelly Beanz! I just flashed the Preview.

Keep flashing, flashing hahaha.
very little if anything wrong with this. in fact i'd say there are less bugs in this build than cm10 as of now. no keyboard popup issues or anything like that.
only bug i've seen thus far is that some apps seem to be missing from the market. Also google now force closes for me even after following the instructions above
also, there are some of the specialized team eos settings but of course they arent all there yet.
overall awesome awesome rom and the best JB rom for the prime thus far. definitely can be used as the daily driver.
I keep getting stuck at the Eee Pad screen.
This is my second try.
I did a full wipe, flashed ROM and GApps from OP, and I'm just stuck st the Eee Pad screen.
It's been sitting there for like 10 minutes. Any ideas?
I'm coming from Virtuous Prime 9.4.2.28 v1

Some possibilities:
1) Bad download(s) (check md5 sums)
2) Old recovery (What version of TWRP or CWM are you running? I cannot speak for CWM, but TWRP should be 2.1.x or 2.2.)
3) Non-full wipe: Full wipe is Factory Reset (in recovery) and wipe cache and wipe Dalvik, right?
4) Lastly, even though I downloaded JB Gapps properly, I pretty near flashed the old ICS version out of habit. You didn't do that, right?

SUCCESS!
I reinstalled Virtuous Prime ROM, updated my CWM Recovery to the latest version, tried again, and it worked!
Thank you.
Looks snappy ... but I don't see camera app ... is it not working ..

Pretty damn cool, but it seems like youtube HD videos are not working? Normal vids work fine...
In CM10 youtube HD is working, but my sdcard isn't (and there are some other issues i
n that one).
And wrt camera, not working indeed... Also tried installing LGCamera but I only get a black viewer when opening it (ie, not the image from the camera which you usually get). Then again, don't use it that often anyway...
HD video/youtube would be sweet though.
Everything was fine, then I tried to turn on Google Now, after that I just keep getting "Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped".

We are working on the HW Video decoding issue and that will fix the Camera as well.

If you clear data for Google Search and then go through the wizard again selection 'No, maybe later' at the end the search works but minus Google Cards. We will have this fixed in due course.
Netflix no video only sound ... so just gotta wait for hw decoding issue to be solved ... I must say ...this Rom is awesome .. @roach hats off sir and or whole team ...was using or Rom in my previous transformer

Thanks, that worked! This is really a nice ROM, thank you.
Another bug popping up:
Often in the app drawer the names/labels of the icons are missing in the first or first 2 pages... Then a bit later (after exiting and entering appdrawer a few times) they are back again. Nothing big, just mentioning it
Also, lockscreen is not showing for me atm... I only see the background image when waking up the tablet. Can unlock fine using the gesture, but don't see the 'unlock UI'.
Also browsers are acting up (ics+, quick ics, opera) but guess that's just general JellyBean issues/compatability
Does MicroSD work on this build?

I noticed. Anyone know what’s going on?
Well, the logs for all the Tenderloin builds have no commits - the intriguing thing is looking at Gerrit and seeing all the Android P commits going on. None that I saw for Tenderloin, but a lot of work being done on P.... I know Flintman has said he had P booting on Tenderloin elsewhere - so who knows what's up, but it seems something is baking!
Just like to know if is there similar with durty-unicorns ?
Any way to root this build??

Yup
Excellent news
Is there any reason to have a new update on a daily basis?
I guess it is automatic.
You can click on log to see the changes :

I saw that; However, I didn't test it though, to have an opinion about it.

It's just a bot. It mindlessly pumps out builds of the entire ROM, not just the tenderloin (HP) device.. It may or may not have commits in other parts of the ROM.

I installed the ROM from 9-26-2018 and it does have changes to it. Now you can see the external USB partition when connected to a PC, it did not worked before. It may be a bot but the new commits are been apply and fixing bugs. The most important is that new commits are uploaded, then the bot will regenerate the new build. If anyone working on the TP ROM have access or that can upload the commits, this ROM will be very close to perfection by now. Is a shame is not been taking care of properly as we get new builds very fast! ( Even the camera partially works, you can see yourself when opening the app, it may need a very small tweak! )
There is even work been done for p-9.0 or at least files that are updated!

I'm having an issue with 10/6 build. If the tablet sleeps for more than a couple minutes, I need to force a reboot by holding the home button and power buttons. It will drain the battery quickly while in this state.
Ideas?
The Evervolv oreo 8.1 builts are not stable, the issue that you are experiencing is one of the bugs.
Another one is activating battery saver and deactivating will reboot.
Use DU built, is stable.

The DU build lags badly on my device. The Evervolv nightly from November 1st seems very snappy by comparison. Haven't tested it much but first impression is that I haven't found a ROM this responsive for the TouchPad in quite a long time...

What makes a ROM faster is the Kernel and the CPU speed plus governor settings.
One setting does not work for every user as everyone uses the tablet differently.
Yes the last Evervolv is a good one. But also DU works great if you do not need to use the camera.
You can make the tablet faster by using the overclock kernel and change the CPU settings to your likes.

I do not need the camera, but all ROMS I've tried past KitKat suffer from bad slowdowns, where everything appears to regularly freeze for several seconds, scrolling in web pages is very jerky, etc. Overclocking helps a little, but not much. I unfortunately experienced the same behaviour with DU 12.5, even after a full wipe.

Unfortunately not all touchpads were build the same and there are variation on their parts, the most important CPU . That is the reason that an optimized setting can not be apply to all, because it will make some unusable.
That does not mean that the one with the worse quality parts can not perform well, all of them can with the right settings and it takes just some basic testing that the user must do and apply its own settings, there is only one that matters:
Find the lowest and maximum CPU frequency: Get the Overclock Kernel and an app that will allow to change the frequency, there are a lot out there.
Change the lowest it will work and the maximum by selecting one by one, if once selected it freeze or reboots then it will be the previous frequency:
In general this is the basic for maximum frequency:
All should perform at the maximum 1782000
Better: 1836000
Best: 1890000
At those higher frequency there could be some reboots depends on the settings:
All should be stable at when overclok 1782000.
Now comes the trick settings:
Some Kernel app will allow to apply settings to each cpu core individually.
Set the cpu0 to highest 1782000 and select Governor to Performance ( it will run constantly at that speed)
Set the cpu1 to lower anywhere from 1674000-1512000
Also select your minimum on both 192000 - 384000
Now change the voltage: Maximum to be stable 1400000 (it can be apply in increment until it reach the maximum to the 1782000 frequency.
Set the zRAM size to 2gb size ( maximum )
That is all!
Now the browser is important, use the latest version as of right now, some are faster than others, try them all!
All ROMS should be able to perform decent and give you great performance.
In the latest DU, using Opera or Firefox you can browse the web even go to youtube website and use it as if it was the native google app, no delays fast playing no lag ( all depends on your internet speed )
