Phone is unlocked, that only puts it into fastboot...?
Oh... hitting volume down multiple times does it.
When it says "fastboot" keep pushing the down button until you see "android recovery" and then push up.

I have PhilZ-Touch Recovery installed - I have to hold down Volume UP and then Power, boots into recovery just fine that way.

With my Atrix HD, it's Vol UP + Power; I have PhilZ Touch Recovery installed

What version of Philz Touch do you have for Atrix 4G?
AHD does not boot to recovery the same as A4G. We need to power + vol down, then scroll to recovery, press vol up to enter into recovery.

Just clarifying: I have the Atrix HD MB886 - definitely on mine with PhilZ Touch 6 (and it says recovery 6.0.4.7) , it's Volume Up + Power.

You can't use bootstrap recovery to flash CM9.
Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=null for how to install cwm via Fastboot.

I've tried to install cwm recovery a few times and it says pass but I can never boot into recovery.
If i try to reboot with rom manager or install recovery w it, everything freezes up and i have to take the battery. Then I cry and repeat.

how are you trying to get into CWM? Power off completely, then hold the Vol's up and down button and power button...til you see the sammy logo then release the power button while still holding the volume button til CWM appears...
I am rooted and i have cwm installed and running ics on it. And i tried to boot into recovery with vol up and power.

Okay ....hold both the volume up "and " volume down ..."and " power .....all together ...but you must start from a powered off condition ,and you must push the volume buttons first ...then the power button ....
Hold until you get a single vibration ...then release the power button .
The phone will then show the Sammy logo and then recovery ...
You can release the volume buttons "after " you see the recovery screen ......g

CWM installed but stock recovery appears
I install CWM recovery via Odin and it was successful. But when I try to boot up my phone to cwm, it boots in to my stock 3e recovery. please help . I'm running on Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
Since you are rooted, use the Quick Boot app to go to recovery from your home screen. Much easier than doing the vol up + vol down + power button thing.

Ok, I can't enter twrp recovery using hikari no tenshi's xtended rom. But the rom boots normally. When I press the vol-down button, just stuck at twrp screen. Any advice?

Press power button instead of volume down button. If it doesn't work reflash the kernel via fastboot or another compatible one.

ok guys, i have noticed that my smultron can't got into recovery with any kernel which have recovery based on twrp, my phone works flawlessly with cwm recovery and I have no problems with cwm recovery.
I paid for the premium version of Clockwork mod, I just rooted and unlocked the bootloader on my phone and I was curious on how I get my phone to boot into clockwork recovery mode. I tried holding volume down, home button and power button at the same time but that goes into downloading mode.
That's because it's volume up for recovery

it is possible that the app didn't automatically set up CWM boot ...
open rom manager
tap on Flash CWM Recovery
wait for the flash to complete...
test it by rebooting from the rom manager app.

It is possible, but holding the wrong buttons like the op was will result in not getting into cwm 100% of the time.

Volume Down + Power --> This will take you to Bootloader, from there, you can go to recovery using vol up/down to navigate and power to select.

Just reflash a recovery either CWM or TWRP... it's a sure thing you will have a custom recovery
Try quick boot from play store

You can't get to the bootloader or are you in the bootloader and can't get in the recovery. If you can't get in the bootloader because the button combination does not work, it is probably because Fastboot is on. You can turn off Fastboot in Power in the settings menu. If you don't want to turn off fastboot, turn off your phone, pull out the battery for a second and try the button combi again.
Hey i plan to wipe all and factory reset my phone. So im gonna have to reinstall recovery and reroot.
But which are the bugless and the best recovery in your opinion? Thw cwm by dark passenger or twrp by nexus prime?
My purpose for having recovery are mainly for nandroid backups.
Please suggest
