I'm having a problem. At first I thought I was just closing the "lid" too quickly and not watching it fully shut down like in windows sometimes things will crash and if you don't click on shut down again it'll just sit there waiting for you to ok the force close. But then I started to make sure it was fully off before closing the lid. Friday I shut it down dock and tablet fully charged. Today I open the lid and the thing has been on for a long time. The dock has been fully depleted and tablet at 52% meaning it turned back on not much longer after I shut it down.
Is anyone else having this problem? I don't have it to wake with keyboard thing. I can't figure out what's wrong. I'm not accidentally turning it back on either b/c that power button takes quite a lot of depressing to turn the unit on. The power button is also facing toward the top of my briefcase. My briefcase has no closing flap either.
Sorry for posting it in general. I was browsing both the QA forum and this one to see if anyone posted.. apparently hit the make new thread button in general instead of QA. If a mod can move it instead of deleting I would appreciate it!!
I think this answers your question.

Sorry it doesn't. I mentioned that I made sure it was shut down before I closed the lid I watch it shut down, vibrate, leave the lid open while I pack the rest of my stuff up. Then I tap on the keyboard/swipe my finger across the touchpad and it's still not responding then I close the lid. I've even tried pressing the power button quickly enough that if it were on it would immediately light back up but nothing happens. I don't press it long enough to make it boot back up. I watch it for a few seconds after that too before storing it. I really thought I solved it too last week when I would try all that and watch it turn off but I was so surprised to open the lid on Sunday and see its been draining all weekend.
It works for me if I wait at least 10 sec after it vibrates.

Nothing special. I had the same question as you. I applied as suggested and it worked. Nothing more I can say.
Sorry
Since this happens when you have the dock connected, did you try changing this setting:
Settings > Asus customized settings > Battery Saving > "Disable wake-up function on keyboard when the tablet is asleep to save more power."
Check this box and then turn your tablet off and see if it restarts itself. There might be a stuck key on the keyboard that is registering as a key press which could be turning your tablet back on.

I talked about how to do when disconnected. Would you give a try ?
About when it is connected, I don't understand the point. Who cares if it is really turne off or not ? It charges anyway. No ?

If the tablet is connected to the dock and is left on and unused, it will still drain the battery on the tablet and the dock. The longer it is left on and unused the more battery will be drained. If you completely deplete your batteries in such a manner and leave them depleted long enough you will destroy the cells and they won't be able to hold a charge.
Also, the tablet should complete the shutdown process even if you close the lid before it finishes shutting off. That is the way that it works on my tablet. Even with the lid closed, my Prime completes the shut down process, vibrates once and then it is off. When I open it back up later, I have to press the on-button for the device to restart. There shouldn't be any waiting period necessary.

If it doesn't work you might wanna do a hard reset on your tablet. This sounds like a software issue and hard resets are usually pretty good at resolving small software issues like this one.
Just back up your date first.
Mine works fine. Cut it off, waited a few seconds, and closed it for half an hour. Had to cut it back on when I opened it up.
I still have the issue on some boots where it'll never enter Deep Sleep, so my dock will get eaten before I notice it, but nothing like this.
I'm having the same issue, turns back on
Not the same as the OP but I've noticed that if I power off my Prime and then plug it into the wall charger it turns on and boots back into ICS. At first I thought that I had hit the power button with the hand that I was holding the tablet with when I plugged in the cord to the socket on the bottom of the tablet but I was careful doing it subsequent times and it happens every time.

Mine does that too but I think its supposed to depending on the manufacturer? My bf's galaxy nexus phone and his old Droid did that too. My evo stays off though. It makes me feel like I'm saving the battery from discharge recharging as much if I can keep it off. But at least it will turn off if you leave it plugged in when you shut down. The Droid didn't seem to let you do.. kept wanting to be on anytime it was plugged in.
Thanks almighty! I'll try the reset... Time to back it up!
My Nexus S phone, if powered off first, stays off when plugged into AC. The Prime is my first Android device that exhibited this behavior... Had a Motorola phone before the Nexus S that would stay off when charging as well. Seemed weird to me when it first happened...

It seems that when I plug my Retail Tab 10.1 Rooted, Locked Bootloader in over night it turns off, when I first pick it up in the morning it requires me to push and hold the power button for 5sec or so to start the boot process... Is that normal? I know its been doing it for a while I don't remember if it was doing that from the start or not though I want to say it was. Its not a major problem for me its just become a bit of a quirk.
Not mine, it doesn't turn off unless I turn it off.
Hit or miss for me.. probably about 70% of the time I wake up, pull the tab out of the desk dock and have to boot it up. Not sure if it's maybe something to do with the battery being full (possibly shuts down as a precaution?) but its pretty annoying. That and the fact that my keyboard dock only recognizes the tab every fourth time.....

I've heard of the dock having some issues with being recognized on the tab. As for the tab powering off, mine doesn't power off unless I manually do it. At 100% battery it just shows a notification to unplug the charger.

Hi guys,
I have just received my transformer prime, I opened the box and tried to boot It but with no luck, it only vibrates.
I though initially that was a low battery issue, but now I have charged it fully (green light), and I'm still unable to boot it...
I have tried to boot it holding the power button for more than 30 seconds, and tried several times the normal way but with no luck.
Any advice?... is this a DOA?
Sigh.....this again. Just let it charge, it's fine.

How much time?... I mean, the LED changed from orange to green... That means its fully charged right?
right now is reaching out almost 3 hours plugged into the wall...
BTW, the screen does not shows anything... some people mentioned a red battery icon, or something like that, but my screen is dead....
Could be your charger derping, there's more people with this issue.
Put it in a plastic bag and huck it in the freezer for a bit,
the thermal protection could be stuck.
David blaine street magic. Better yet, steve jobs apple magic
LOL. hold down the power button for more than 5 seconds and voila! You guys are too funny.
I have tried every possible convination of seconds while holding the power button... 5, 10, 20, 30, 1 min... POWER + VOLUME DOWN, but is just vibrating... does not shows _anything_ on the screen...
Not sure if the reset hole+papperclip is going to help, but I have been trying to find how it works but with no luck, I guess is a combination of button + pushing the reset, but not sure how...
Your screen could be defective. Or the ribbon might not be connected to the board.

I have the same issue, just surprised that I can not use the product while it is plugged.
When i try to turn it on while it's plugged, it flashed and vibrated once showing battery bar and then died....now it just won't turn on!! AHHHHHHh!
Does this happen to other people. I heard you suppose to charge it for 6 hr before first use...but why can i not turn it on while plugged. Now All i see is the a red or orange LED light on the power button. Does it mean it is short circuited?
Can Someone confirm that this is normal.
I didn't bother charging straight away, with modern batteries there really isn't any need as far as I'm concerned. Of course people will tell you different but that's my opinion.
I had no issue with first boot, literally touched the power button for a second and on it came. Sounds like yours is no good.

Hi,
I researched a little bit more about the charger issues and to discard that, I left it charging today with another charger (I have two other Transformer 1). But I'm not holding my breath on that, the LED status is green, so I dont think is going to take more charging that what it currently have.
Thank you.

Hey man, that sounds a lot like what happened to mine. I was able to turn it on and set it up but then I fully charged it and rebooted..it never came back. The LED was green, I tried all the button combos etc...wouldn't even be recognized by my PC.

Hey, thank for the reply...
I'm going to try to plug it to the PC and see if I can get something from it.
I was also thinking about trying to drain the battery (as some other have done when the update came), but I dont see any decent way to do it...
The screen does not shows anything (so no battery drain in there), I dont see any other decent way to drain the battery but to burn my finger pressing the power button causing the the thing to vibrate and somehow drain the battery little by little... But I dont know how much is going to take to achieve it ... I'll probably lose my finger first.
Make sure you try holding the power button down for a long time. I had a similar reoccurring issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427461
Try holding it down, there will be a buzz but don't stop holding it down until you see the boot logo. It can take holding it down a while. I kept thinking it was broken, but was just letting up too soon after the buzz.

Sorry man, after the huge wait we all had and the expectation, I have seen too many of these for comfort. I am no Apple lover, but somehow I can't imagine this kind of thing happening with iPads. Sure the occasional one in a thousand, but this is at least the 5th or 6th DOA I have read about. Seems that QC takes a back seat when demand is high: What? Those won't turn on? Throw them in a box, we need to get as many as we can out to Best Buy, they oversold the pre-orders. Let the poor guy RMA it!"
I was seriously afraid mine would be one of these, especially after they shipped it ground instead of the overnight I paid for. I guess I was a LITTLE more lucky, but no cigar either. I got one with no GPS functionality at all. Cannot even SEE, nevermind lock on any satellites both pre and post 8.3.33 update. Sigh. A "Premium Tablet" with horrible build and QC"
I hope you get a working replacement quickly. The guy who had an amber LED I knew would boot. Yours sounds like its running with no display like a few others I have seen. On guy had it drop 2 feet from on top of a pile of towels to a carpeted floor and his went into the same state. I think perhaps the video ribbon cable is easy to dislodge. Who knows... Get a new one, and give them hell to get it to you fast.
No Power
Just got my prime in the mail yesterday from best buy and I had the same problem. Wouldn't turn on right away so I charged it the full 8 hours and it still won't turn on at all...regardless of how long I hold down the power button. It only ever vibrates.
Called Asus tech support and he had me hold the power button for 8 seconds, let off power button, then hold down again until it turned on...but it never did. They want me to send the tablet in for repairs. That could take weeks. Best Buy won't do anything as they are backordered.
Many others have had this problem on androidforums.com. Asus really needs to address this
I hope this is the right sub-forum to open this thread if not please movie it.
Half an hour ago I Got the 9.4.2.15 firmware update from asus. after the update was applied my prime asked me if I want to turn it off....I approved and the device shut down and stayed off.I tried to turn it on and nothing happened.
When I applied the update I had more then 80% of the battery.
I plugged the phone to the charger and the charger light on the power button changed from orange to green
While the Prime was charging(and after it was fully charged) I tried to do some stuf
I tried to press the on button and nothing happened and no vibration.
I tried to hold the on button for about 30 seconds and the only thing that happened is that I got a vibration(the same you get when you turn on your device).
I tried to reset the device with the reset hole near the microsd with a needle and nothing happened.
I tried holding the power button and the volume button(once the up and the other time the down) and nothing happened except the vibration after about 10 seconds.
ANY IDEAS?
*my biggest problem is I purchased the Prime from "Amazon US" and I don't leave in the us...How If I need do I use my ASUS warranty.who do I connect?
Thanks.
Try draining the battery completely then charging it back up. Then try to boot it up again. You might have a glitch or bug. Its always good after an update is applied to let it update then it reboots itself. After it loads back up,go into home screen. Then **** down device and cut back on. This will eliminate anything happening from rogue codes.

I am unable to do "Hard reset" because the device do doesn't start, after pressing the power button nothing happens the screen stays black. the onle response I get from the device is vibration(after I hold the power button for about 10-12 seconds).
I don't think that "EP201_SDUPDATE.ZI" will help because I don't have accesses to my bootloader
Did you happen to drop the device or bang it pretty hard? If so, could be a chance the connector to your display is loose and device is actually on but the screen is off. Best way to check this is to connect your prime to your t.v. thru HDMI. Then try to cut it on. If something displays on your t.v. but screen still won't cut on, then connector came loose from your display. That is the best way to check. Plus you could also operate tablet like that.
Nope,didn't drop or hit it.
Unfortunately I don't have HDMI cable that connects to the prime.
your idea is good but even without the cable I am sure it's not the problem...but lets say that it is the problem...then if the device is actually on I should be able the hear the sound it makes when I use the volume buttons and when I receive new emails...the thing is I am unable to produce any sound from the device.
I just applied my update and it didn't ask me if I wanted to power down, it did itself. Did you power down when it was starting to install?
My screen did say "power down" but I knew it would do it itself.
Maybe like doing a battery pull during a flash?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
Maybe you are right and for some reason I turned the device off while it was in the middle of the update... so 5hat means as you said that I interupted the flash process...in this case the problem is the software of the device ...could I do somthing to fix it without going with it to a lab?

You might try inserting a pin or a paperclip into the reset hole next to the micro SD port.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
I decided to try and fix my prime one last time before I use the warranty. so I took a needle SMALLER one then I used the first time I tried to "Hard reset" the prime and inserted it into the hole near the microSD port....and this time I felt a "click"...I pressed for about 10 seconds and then released and the screen turned on
I immediately got the screen withe the open green robot and with a blue line under it that showed me that the update was applied....then the screen changed to the screen you get when you turn on the device(asus symbol and tegra3 symbol) and again I got a blue line showing me that the update is going on.
After the blue line went foreword to 100% it disappeared from the screen and I was left with the screen you get when you turn on the device(asus symbol and tegra3 symbol).
I have waited for about 20 minutes and nothing happened....I turned off the device with the power button and then turned it on again(this time the device responded after 1-2 seconds)...I got a vibration and the screen was on(asus symbol and tegra3 symbol). after a few seconds the screen changed to another screen( another ASUS symbol with a turning circle under it) after about 8 seconds my device was fully working all my data was present(didn't reset with the needle should have deleted everything?) and my software number was 9.4.2.15,so the update was fully applied.
I tried turning on and off the device for a few times and had no problems with it.
So basically the device is working and I have no idea what was the problem
The tip i got for everyone trying to reset the device with a needle/paper clip....YOU HAVE TO FEEL THE CLICK
that's awesome! Congrats!
These are expensive toys (in my case addiction).
Maybe it was a bad flash which can be really spooky if you're not rooted with a custom recovery.

TP cannot turn on without dock if powered off completely...
Happens when its shut off completely as in long press the power button. No matter how long I hold it to turn on it just refuses to turn on.
I plug it into the dock give the power button a tap and it turns on. Without the dock no matter what I try it just will not turn on.
Anyone have the same issue or is mine isolated and an exchange is in order?

I don't know if I'm having that same problem but my TP has a tendency to shut itself off if I have the keyboard attached and leave it sitting for a day or two. I have to push and hold the power button for it to come on. I haven't tried taking the keyboard off and hitting the power button.

Have you tried quickboot from the google play store it's free. That is what I use to shut down most of my Andriod devices.
Not sure this will help. Try a soft reset. With the tablet on insert a small wire in the hole near the SD card slot. Worth a shot at least.

Will it turn on into the bootloader? Not sure about the Prime but on my Aria you press the volumn down and power at the same time. There are options there that might help. Be careful and I'm sure the experts here will chime in wether this would help or not.

I tried this too...nothing happens too. No bootloader. However if I press the up button and power the backlight flash awhile then back in to the darkness. Wonder what that is for..
The weird thing is..I did not even explicitly turn off the prime...I always leave it in standby. It turns itself off after awhile of not in use. Anyone face that issue? And then I got to go running for a dock again because I cant turn it back on
Sounds to me like you ran the battery dead and placing it in the dock makes it think it still has battery. If the battery is completely run out it takes about 5-10% charge to get it to turn on. Seems pretty common among all my devices.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm on my 3rd Prime. The power button on the 2nd was different where you really had to search for it to turn it on. It worked but it was almost flush with the metal. This one's better but it seems like it's getting harder to turn on as the days go by. I find myself having to press a couple times to get it just right to turn it on.
I have heard several people complain about the power button but I think it was mostly that it was hard to find. You must have one that's not working too. My experience with RMA is give it 7 days once they get it and call every other day for an update. (They'll keep asking for 24-48 hours to get an answer) Keep notes because they are and one more thing, take pictures of how you packed it and the condition of your Prime. You never know when that might come in handy. Good luck.
The 1st time that this happened, I thought that I may have done something wrong, but it happened again today. My phone turns itself off, requiring a long press on the power button (30 sec) to restart. When it restarted, I noticed a 10% or do drop in remaining charge in the battery (see attached, directly above the ":" in the text at the bottom). Has anyone else had a similar experience?

The biggest concern is the prob with the restart. It almost seemed like it had bricked itself.
It was the same for my brother. Wouldn't start until he plugged into the PC. But he didn't know holding down power longer then normal does a hard reboot. If I remember right it happened to him as soon as he turn the on screen controls on in settings under PC connections.

I put mine down after sending a TM to my son. When I picked it back up. I had to hold do the hard reboot, which didn't work until I plugged it in (although I can't guarantee that plugging it in made the difference).
