(Q)spb shell 3D battery draining? - Motorola Droid RAZR

i m planning to swap to spb shell after found that go launcher drains quite lot of battery with its cool effect. now my question is, will it drains many battery juice as well? any user here?
thanks

GO Launcher is okay on the battery. SPB Shell should drain more if I'm not wrong.

SPB is surprisingly light on battery. I was under the impression that Go Launcher is a well-known battery hog, especially when laden down with widgets. Has always been the case in my experiences with it.

but go launcher sucks without setting its effect. and i found that oatest version of spd seems smoother than go launcher, i can even downclock to 600mhz with no lag.

[APP] SPB Shell 3D on the Photon...loving it!

So, decided to try this launcher a few months ago for another device...priced at $14.95 I was skeptical. I downloaded it once more, to my new Photon...effin lovin it!
Love what it adds to my Photon experience. Yes, definitely overpriced...but totally changes your Photon to eye-candy goodness. I found the new Moto Blur to be rather bland IMO.
Loving the Message widget, totally dig the 3D carousel effect. The World Clock widget is fun, and the whole thing gives my Photon a quasi-Sense feel. Some cool looking / working widgets...and it flies on our Photon! Combined with Beautiful Widgets here and there I'm totally satisfied with my screen layout!
It's a bit of a memory hog @ roughly 90mb usage...but I tend to keep things skinny usually anyways, so no ill effects.
EDIT: I can't help but notice how lag-free this launcher is. I truly expected something so flashy to come with bunches of lag...SO not the case. Amazingly smooth. Also they've added rotate option now (I bought it a few months ago for another device so didn't know it had changed so much) for use in landscape!
Oh...here's the Market Link:
SPB Shell 3d
Have this on my EVO and is very smooth and fast. I like the interface. Used to be a die hard LP+ user and SPB Shell is less laggy when moving between screens. Plus, can put up to 16 screens with this. LP was taking way too much time to be re-written and not enough upgrades for my liking. Seemed to get more jerky after every update.
I'll be rockin this on my Photon this week as well if Blur doesn't do it for me.

Been thinking of getting SPB Shell ever since my friend showed it to me on his EVO. I an very tempted to buy this now that I have my Photon but kind of wanted to spend more than 4-5 days with the stock launcher.....lol
been using it since it came out for android love it also, for me i look at this way, this is the third phone i have used it on, with different versions of android, so far all it has done is improve my experience its paid for itself.
I bought it and liked the look and feel but on my phone it was crashtastic. Maybe something I am running doesn't agree with it very well. Handcent possibly...

SPB is really awesome so far and offers a lot of customization.
Anyone tried the kickstand trick (going into widget clock) with SPB? Doesn't work with LP so I suspect it won't work with SPB either.

Nope, doesn't work. The screen doesn't even go into Landscape mode which doesn't bother me at all since I never use landscape mode.
Thanks for the idea. I am using go launcher but I am to try that 1

Landscape works, but the Clock Widget doesn't show, I just saw my regular home screen.
This thread is worthless without pics!!!!!!
I was liking this shell OK until I tried the HD dock I the necessary notification to get webtop to work fails to come up for me with this shell loaded
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
I don't have the dock so can't test this....but I bet someone with a rooted phone, the dock, and Tasker could try and make a script to run the clock when docked and maybe pop up an option for webtop? Just a thought. Then any launcher could have the same functionality.
Still like SPB over stock launcher even with those drawbacks.

Why the phone is so damn slow?

Hi
Im just wondering...how come such a powerfull phone
Cannot "multi task" with live wallpaper..
When i put LWP the phone become very slow and laggy.
I have here galaxy s and he doing fine with heavy multi task and LWP
As well.
Even with another launchers the problem remains.
does anyone else having the same problem?

Nope, I run an lwp ..several ones actually. I jump between xda, twitter, facebook, gplus, gmail, corp email and browser all day long and don't have any issues with slow downs. In fact the only time I have ever seen this phone slow down is with the keyboard on occasion in landscape mode.
What lwp are you using. Could just be a crappy coder.

thanks for the replay's m8's
same...the phone become slow when put an Live wallpaper
using stock rom 154_6 rooted.
used the Memory optimization tools but no go...
I have the same issues. I just don't run a lwp any more. I use launcher pro and when.I.open.the app drawer with a lwp, its pretty bad. Same on go launcher.

I noticed this on my EVO 3d as well but not on my nexus s. So I'm assuming it has to do with the memory hog called sense and blur.

Either the people in this thread don't know what silky smooth is or their phones are better than ours for some reason. But the display at the sprint store dis the same thing. The stock launcher is already laggy as hell so a lwp makes it non issue on stock launcher. But on any other launcher, there are issues.
My EVO 3d was the same way. Pure vanilla phones seem to do better with lwp...like the LG g2x and nexus s
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
And this happens with the stock lwp
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I'm running launcher pro, stock rom, rooted with some build.prop tweaks and I have the same laggy opening of the app drawer. I never contributed it to lwp. After a quick test its only laggy with lwp as the op said. Its not terrible but its not silky smooth either. Everything else is fine.

Here's a tip: STOP USING LIVE WALLPAPERS THEY KILL YOUR BATTERY. Also LWP shouldnt slow your phone down if anything it should be faster since lwp keep your cpu clock speed a bit higher.

Anything that requires resources and CPU cycles should slow things down. Albeit how much depends on many factors. Video based apps like live wallpaper especially could be resource intensive.

Dont you mean lower? Higher, in theory, would make it slower because it needs that power to multi-task for whatever reason? But then again, some of my servers run well over 200% and no one complains? Oh well............

I mean live wallpapers keep the cpu active, you fire up the screen so its already faster than the phone with regular wallpaper because it needs to continuously keep the lwp going? Idk maybe im seeing this wrong......seems like the phone using lwp should be more responsive and able to multitask over the phone with regular wallpaper since the cores have to fire up upon the screen wake.

Does other Launchers improve battery life?

I dont use most of the touchwiz functions and don't really find touchwiz very responsive. Battery life is ok.... At best. And my phone gets hot just using operamini and xda app.
Does launcher like Apex improves battery life? And what about speed?
And does installing a 3rd party launcher affects the current setup that requires me to re setup the homescreen and widget after uninstalling the launcher?
Thanks.

Battery Saving and Launchers

Anything in the market that really does the job of battery saving? I use GO Launcher? Are there any better launchers that will probably not use as much battery as the GO Launcher does??

I have never heard of anyone mentioning a launcher using too much battery.
What makes you think its your launcher using up your battery?
To extend battery life, first you need to find out what is using most of your battery. You can do this under menu>settings>battery and/or use the app called better battery stats and/or cpu spy.

I would agree with that Nova as well as apex are pretty battery friendly. Could also make sure none of your Widgets are bat hogs. And try the app "better battery stats" in play store to see if anything else is draining.
For the record the app is called "betterbatterystats" all one word. If you add spaces it takes forever to find.

Spb shell 3d on galaxy s3

I know most people use Nova or Alex launchers, but I was wondering if anyone be used spb shell yet. I had been using it on my old desire which made sense but Its a memory eater and took ages to load up after each reset, had lots of resets of its own, but did have a nice enviroment in all.
Any thoughts?

Check out the new version of tsf shell as well, afaik tsf is less memory eater than spb
spb 3d runs without issues on s3!! I used it for 2 weeks without any problems :good:

I downloaded it again and set the features that I'd like. Cannot say for sure if it gives me much more than touchwiz. I like the gallery option and the 3d appearance, I don't like the fact that in the apps once you reach the end you have to go back again, to flick through them, ad finally it does take up a bit more time to load up than the wiz if I use equal amounts of screens for all my apps. I'll see what I will do. I haven't digested it yet!

How do I activate spb again after I go back to touch wiz? I can't find an option to do that? Someone said to clear the "launch by default" on the application manager but that option is grayed out.
Thanks

TSF SHell is the Smoothest launcher that is out right now........completely lag free.
if your willing to buy it i think it puts spb shell (which i also own) on a lower level. spb gets old quick to me. tsf has nice little features which make it unique enough to be fun.

waste of money in my opinion.
