Does other Launchers improve battery life? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dont use most of the touchwiz functions and don't really find touchwiz very responsive. Battery life is ok.... At best. And my phone gets hot just using operamini and xda app.
Does launcher like Apex improves battery life? And what about speed?
And does installing a 3rd party launcher affects the current setup that requires me to re setup the homescreen and widget after uninstalling the launcher?
Thanks.

Lockscreen that shows calendar

Can anyone recommend a good lockscreen that will display upcoming calendar events? It also needs to have good battery life and preferably have a launcher to launch sms when you have one like the stock lockscreen.

AGILE LOCK! Mimics to an extent the htc sense lockscreen.
I'm a huge fan of it. While it doesn't 'hide' the text message option, and 'show' it with new text. It does allow for fast access to 4 apps of your choice, and it enables accessing the pull down status drawer (open new text messages) with the lock screen still active.
And for calender it allows you to use any widget of your choice. Here's mine:

Hands down one of the things I like the most in terms of usability.

How is battery life? My biggest concern is always battery life.
Thanks.

Widget Locker is also an option.

I second this, also smooth calendar is nice and clean.
Agile lock uses very little battery. Never noticed the difference.
Some have reported widget locker as causing battery drain issues but I think it's more likely it was app conflicts causing it. My wife's atrix has run a number of roms and never had a battery issue from widget locker. She really likes it.

launcher lag?

My 3devo is very laggy, my evo 4g seemed to handle multi tasking much better. I've been to sprint multiple times about this issue and today they told me it's probably because I'm using a launcher. I've been using launcher pro since way back with my cliq never had any problems. Just wanna know if anyone out there using a launcher is experiencing anything.
I don't like launchers, but whenever I would use any launcher, I found there was little to no lag. I'd have slight lag on occasion, but that's from having too much stuff running.
I use launcher pro and have absolutely no lag at all

Used to use LP and even paid for it a long with ADW but converted to Go launcher a long time ago. It seems like the go team releases more frequent bug fixes and updates than other launchers.
At least give a few others a shot first. I had the Evo 4g for a little over a year and it's a beast but the 3d does seem to do better.

uninstall the launcher on the stock htc sense laucher remove ALL widgets icons make sure theres no live wallpaper ect ect then reinstall launcher should fix your problem
The problem is that Sense is a complete RAM hog. You're losing over 400MB from it and its processes alone. Adding another UI skin on top of that is only going to slow things down even more and take up more memory. You should definitely consider an AOSP ROM (I usually have about 600MB of free RAM at most times and absolutely no lag using Trebuchet Launcher on kushdeck's latest ICS alpha. Or you could just root, install an OC kernel and use a CPU governor to overclock your phone (but your battery life will be terrible). I hope this helped a bit, definitely look into the dev section for more info.

(Q)spb shell 3D battery draining?

i m planning to swap to spb shell after found that go launcher drains quite lot of battery with its cool effect. now my question is, will it drains many battery juice as well? any user here?
thanks
GO Launcher is okay on the battery. SPB Shell should drain more if I'm not wrong.
SPB is surprisingly light on battery. I was under the impression that Go Launcher is a well-known battery hog, especially when laden down with widgets. Has always been the case in my experiences with it.

but go launcher sucks without setting its effect. and i found that oatest version of spd seems smoother than go launcher, i can even downclock to 600mhz with no lag.

Battery Saving and Launchers

Anything in the market that really does the job of battery saving? I use GO Launcher? Are there any better launchers that will probably not use as much battery as the GO Launcher does??

I have never heard of anyone mentioning a launcher using too much battery.
What makes you think its your launcher using up your battery?
To extend battery life, first you need to find out what is using most of your battery. You can do this under menu>settings>battery and/or use the app called better battery stats and/or cpu spy.

I would agree with that Nova as well as apex are pretty battery friendly. Could also make sure none of your Widgets are bat hogs. And try the app "better battery stats" in play store to see if anything else is draining.
For the record the app is called "betterbatterystats" all one word. If you add spaces it takes forever to find.

Auto Rotate Screen

Is there a way to force my phones screen to auto rotate the screen? It of course does it when in apps but on the home screen it doesnt.
For the life of me I cannot understand why they will not give us this one simple feature.
Use power toggles, or better yet, use custom launcher
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
The default launcher doesn't auto-rotate. Check out Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher, both have that functionality.
Wanting to stick with the stock launcher. Is there a recommended app from the market to do just this?
And what rom are you running? Stock MotoBlur or custom rom?
