Yeah, specifics would be nice. I have changed the build.prop to reflect a Droid X, and I still don't see it in the market. On my nook or my EVO.
1) Download ES File Explorer (Or any other root file editor)
2) In ES File Explorer, go into Setting > Root Settings and enable both check boxes
3) Navigate to /system/ and copy/paste build.prop to /sdcard/ (just in case)
4) Open & edit /system/build.prop
5) Change the following lines to make your phone think it is a Droid X
ro.product.model=Droid X
ro.product.manufacturer=Motorola
Save and overwrite.
Use Google to find the apk. Install and update.
Here's a small video that I did showing that it work.

That's the part I needed to see. So this requires a cracked apk to work?

will this break netflix? and how would we update?
the game runs an update check at the beginning of running it, although i dont know when there actually is an update if it will just patch or make me reinstall a new apk.
got it working, fun game! and netflix still works
Just an fyi, quite a few devices work with this game, my Nook's build.prop is set to the Samsung Nexus S and both netflix and this game work fine.

works perfectly, thanks!!!
if you have SwypeBeta installed and change your nook's build.prop ID, it'll give you a snarky "this ain't licensed anymore" message, but it doesn't seem to have affected my NC at all...

It probably will. I think they have a time delay before it goes to "reduced functionality" which basically means you can no longer swype, only touch type.
Worked
Thanks for the tip, got it up and running and downloading the updates right now!
It was somewhat difficult to find a good link to the apk though, a lot of them have been removed or are broken, and I'd be afraid to repost the link where I found it for fear of that one being removed as well.
However, I really want to be able to support gameloft so they keep pumping out awesome games, but the only way to get this on the nook is to download the apk free. Is there a way to give to gameloft what they earned?
Got it up and running last week, but a new update was released that makes it unable to play. If anyone has a work around for this, That would be cool. It is an error after I log in that says to update before I can play. But I can't find any way to update the game manually, and I can't access it through the market....
Do a google search for the latest version by number and you will find a download link for the game.
For anyone editing the build.prop....
You DO NOT have to CHANGE the lines...
Just ADD the new info at the TOP of build.prop... it will use the first entry it finds... this makes undoing changes much easier...
You can also use my IMEI Generator to do these edits... since they have to be done every nightly update... just remember to edit the ini file in the Generator...
Thanks for the info!
Worked for me
Im currently in the market for a tablet that can at least run games of this nature, how exactly is the performance on the NC? Im debating on waiting for the Kindle Fire, but if this runs smooth on here, i can save a few $$ and get a refurbed NC on the cheap.
Thanks for the feedback!

For me it runs pretty smooth, plus you can use chainfire3d app to make it smoother reducing graphics. I haven't tried with chainfire3d since for me it runs good as it is Haven't played it in a while I need to update to check if it still runs the same way.
I have been browsing for some interesting-looking games to play on my Nook, and the last few that I've seen on Play through my PC (Skyfall, Six Guns, Sims Freeplay) have been unavailable for the Nook. What's up with that?

Those games are showing as blocked on mine as well. They may just represent game makers no longer supporting the devices we are spoofing (Galaxy Tab and Nexus One). You can always try changing your build.prop to get the new games but you may lose access to others.
Thanks for the tip. I've never modified my build.prop. What would be a good value to change to? And what is the best way to modify that file?

You can use root explorer or ES file explorer. The value to change it to has historically been a combination of Nexus One and Galaxy tab settings. I currently have those settings on my nook and it is showing incompatible for the games you've listed. It may be a good idea to try Galaxy S or pure Galaxy tab (SPH-P100 or GT-P1000) since those are all PowerVR devices so there won't be incompatibilities with the games you download.
Well, it seems that no matter what method I try, I can't get /system to mount r/w. I found something suggesting that I need ro.secure=0 in some file (maybe build.prop or maybe default.prop), but I think I'm getting beyond my knowledge and comfort level.
I finally was able to edit build.prop using Root Explorer (should've just bought that a long time ago). However, I can't figure out the right things to edit. I've tried changing the model and manufacturer to the values for Galaxy Tab, Galaxy S, and my Evo Shift, but none make these games available. Clearly, I'm missing something that needs changed.

It has worked for me before, just changing model and brand, then clearing data from google play and rebooting. But I tried it yesterday for six-guns and it didn't work, I used SPH-P100
Hmmm...didn't clear data for Play. Let me try that.
Ok, that let me get Sims Freeplay, but not the others. I even tried loading an "unlocked" Play apk. Aggravating.
I finally wised up. I downloaded the games to my phone, backed up with Titanium, copied the backups to my Nook, and restored.

I don't have a smart phone T_T can't do that.
I think so. It wants to download a ton of stuff and I don't have a wifi connection right now, so I'll extra-confirm later.

Well at least is bypassing the device check, since its downloading the content. I was thinking you might need to use Chainfire3d to make it work smoothly. But we'll see what happens. If it works you think you could post a link for the apk you extracted from your phone?
Yeah, if it works, I'll do that.
You have to clear data from play store and google services framework.
Sims shows the splash screen then goes back home. Six Guns and Skyfall appear to work.
I'm apparently too dumb to figure out where the apk files are, so here are zips of the three files created by Titanium. Just drop them into your TitaniumBackup folder on your SD card (might require a reboot), then you can "restore" them through Titanium.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ycypyd923wuzoh0/SixGuns.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/yseekyj5jxrvbcj/Skyfall.zip
Oh, and clearing data on Google Service Framework didn't help me.
OK, so maybe Six Guns doesn't work. It sort of works, but it's not right.
Has anyone been successful in installing the Google Now apk from the Google Now for ICS Project on CM9 or AOKP?
If you have, can you kindly write out any instructions or difficulties you had in installing it.
I ask this because the Google Now for ICS Project thread is in complete shambles. I think it would be more organized if we can keep some instructions for our EVO 3D's localized in this forum.
I've tried the installation method of:
1. Open ES File Explorer File Manager or any other root-enabled file explorer on your Android device.
2. Navigate to /system directory.
3. Once you’ve opened the folder, find build.prop and open it in a text editor. To do this, press build.prop until a prompt appears. Tap the Open in Text Editor button.
4. Locate the line that says ro.build.version.sdk=15and edit it to ro.build.version.sdk=16. Take note, the value 15should be changed to 16. After editing, press the menu button and tap Save and Exit.
5. Go to /system/appand find GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk.Rename it to GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk1and save it. Again, take note of adding the number 1 to APK.
6. Reboot your device.
7. Launch your file manager app again, locate the Google Now APK, and install it on your device.
8. After installing, go back and edit build.prop in the same manner as in steps 3 and 4. This time, it should be ro.build.version.sdk=15.Change the value 16back to 15 again.
9. Reboot your device again to complete the process.
This resulted in errors not being able to connect to the internet.
The other method I tried to some degree of success was using theos0o's apk located here.
Now I say to some degree of success because I don't seem to get anything but the weather card and the "sample card" thing at the top, not matter if I search for things or not.
Is there a way to remove the Tutorial Sample card above the weather?
Yes. See this thread from a few days ago:

All you have to do is rename the app, copy it to system/app using a root browser, change permissions to rw-r--r-- and reboot. If you want voice capabilities, you have to install a few apps.
Having said that, I put it on my phone and it is nothing special. Maybe because it is not integrated from the beginning, it does nothing for me but chew up battery. My battery today only lasted 4 hours with 2 hours of screen on time. There were 2000 wakelocks trying to get my location, which I think was Google Now.

Search Function doesn't seem to do much good on the forum, I searched for Google Now in our forum here and did not see that at all.
Well, I've been on wifi all day, I've got a long trip tomorrow I guess I can see if it actually does anything on the way out to North Carolina. If not guess I will be uninstalling it.

Hi,
I'm running official AT&T ICS build in my Galaxy Note.
Long story short, I was trying to buy FIFA 12 for 0.25c in the latest sale at google play but it didn't show in my Note's Google Play. Looking in the web I could see that FIFA 12 was on sale for 0.25c but when trying to buy it would not let me add it to my device (SGH-I717) or if done from the Note, it would tell me that the app was incompatible with my device. I looked around and there are plenty of posts and web sites with related info but I just wanted to post here a set of simple steps that worked for me for the AT&T Galaxy Note so people don't have to go and try a million things like I did.
- First I rooted my device. (I'm not going to post any instructions for this, search in this forum.) (and I'm not sure it would work without rooting since we will have to modify a system file)
- Second I installed ROM Toolbox Lite (the free version),
- I run the ROM Toolbox and went to the Root Browser tool.
- I went to the folder system and then I opened the build.prop file with the "Build properties" app (when you select the file to open, it will show a bunch of apps to choose from).
- I changed the values from the following two properties (it might work by changing only the model property but I did both)
from:
ro.product.device = SGH-I717
ro.product.model = SGH-I717
to:
ro.product.device = Galaxy Nexus
ro.product.model = Galaxy Nexus
I restarted the Note and voila! all the applications that were not showing before in Google Play are showing now and I could buy them. Not only that but I could also buy them online away from my Note.
The only draw back I noticed is that Swype was not working after the change, I assume the app was checking for the right model number since it's an app that came exclusively with the Note. But you can just revert back the changes and the apps the were supposed to be incompatible will still be working.
I'm sure there are other models we can use and will still work and that some apps will show for some models and not for others so it's a question of trying.
I did not change the dpi in my phone, still as default 320. I tried to change it and it actually made the apps to not show up in Google Play even with the right changes in the properties.
I hope it's useful to somebody.
Cheers.

wow! thanks for that!
I was frustrated because i wanted the video maker app and a few others. now i can try for them again!
maybe you can help me with a problem i am having with google play...specifically the option to bill for apps thru my carrier (it is missing)...i wanted to get those 25¢ apps. i called at&t and google and after various cache and data clearing and making new google account and much research on here and many other things, i still have no answers. i get the option to use credit card or redeem gift card and at first had option to bill my carrier, but that led me to "there was an error, please try again bla blah blah". when i cleared the cache and data, that option to bill thru the carrier disappeared. Like you i am also runningon my i717-- the at&t ics upgrade (never tried any other roms) and my note is rooted - of course. i had some apps frozen but have restored them. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling google play updates. i did the root first then upgraded to ics (i think...anyway i followed directions i found at xda to the letter. i never deleted any apps just froze them. i never had any prroblems after root and upgrade to ics till now! any ideas? thanks for your time...really!
@mamaboo....you are using cellular data and not wifi to download and purchase the apps?
carrier billing....
Thanks for your suggestion!
i am using cellular data with wifi turned off. i reconciled myself to using a debit card but i really want the billing thru at&t and it just wont work...i have tried all they have suggested at at&t tech support except a master reset. that is just too time consuming right now although imay do one soon just to start fresh. i researched and saw that quite a few ppl have this same problem.
If i find a solution, i will post it here. Maybe i just ned to unroot, i dunno!
i am glad i had the debit card, there are some great apps for a quarter! i missed the first two days and there were some apps i would have definitely gone for. you just cannot beat that price!
i feel like a kid in a candy shop, i bought 8 really good apps and spent only $2.00! and a 900 plus page book--a really great read--for $3.99!
Funny thing is......I am using a Rogers Note with the stock rooted Rogers ICS ROM on it. I am also on a non smartphone data plan. Also I have carrier billing blocked on my account. And I have the carrier billing prompt available. Are you sure you are looking in the correct place?
After selecting the price you get the screen with the "Accept & Buy" prompt. Before selecting "Accept & Buy", right above it you will see the line with "Pay With." All the way to the right will be a drop down menu arrow. Select that arrow and I get a new menu with: Bill my AT&T account, Visa xxx-xxxx, Add card, and Redeem.
Seems strange if it is not there for you. Help file says it should be there as long as you are on cellular data, you aren't behind on your cellphone bill, and you do not have carrier billing blocked through ATT.
carrier billing...
my phone at first gave me the carrier billing option right where you said it should be. but clicking on it gave me a message that said something like "THERE WAS AN ERROR....PLEASE TRY AGAIN" no error number or other info. i called at&t and they had me clear the cache in the google play app...nothing...then clear data...nothing except now there is NO option to carrier billing anymore. i did a battery pull with phone on, i uninstalled google play updates then reinstalled, then i made a NEW google account. between each thing i tried, i checked for the carrier billing option and nothing again. the last resort is a master reset....unless i find an answer here. i have been using google play all morning and with a debit card...at least that worked. i am so mad i missed those first few days of apps because if this. i actually went out and got the prepaid card from walmart....only other thing i can think of is the purchase block i had put on the other phones on my account. at&t says it is not blocked on my phone, but maybe i should have them remove it from those phones just to see...sorry about typos (I think i got them all corrected!)..i am waiting to see if tapatalk goes on sale! think i will just get it anyway....
You say your phone is rooted, right? How about replacing the google play with an older version from the gingerbread ROM?
Hmmm, that sounds like a project to try. everytine i uninstall google play updates, it goes right back and installs them. I am not sure how to do it but i am willing to give it a try. anything but the dreaded master reset for now. and i know that is something i probably should do just to 'clean house' sometime soon..

Hey
I changed the file to the galaxy nexus for my rooted telus i717d and it bricked the phone. I was unable to boot and unable to flash to recovery. I had to send the device in for repair. I got the device back , but just a warning!!!!!
I changed my sgh-717 att to galaxy nexus and only difference was it went just as far but with new error saying file can't be found. Then changed to sgh-747 sgs3 which I also own that was compatible withe the apps I wanted. But same outcome. Ended up just restoring apps I wanted with my sgs3's backups. Also try an app that spoofs the phone to another which ended up bricking phone but I still was able to restore my boot and system files from a nandroid backup. So I'll just use blackmart for now which doesn't check phone Id. Must be because I'm running slimrom 4.1.1 your method might work only on ICS builds. Thanks anyways

Wrong! That's NOT possible by changing build.prop. You did something else that broke it. Please don't mislead people with false statements and bad information.
95% of problems are user related.

Only reason I did this was to get google wallet. Just says not compatible with my device ... nothing about carrier...
Final Steps!!!
I was trying to do this for my Note 2 with Saurom ROM, but it didn't work, until I did the final step found in another forum.
Go into the Settings screen, select Applications, select Manage Applications, tap the All category, and select the Google Play app. Clear its cache and data, and then restart your device
It works now and I'm prompted to update 50 other apps, lol.
I'm using cyanogenmod on a s3 and on my phone neither of those where in that file, closest one was brand and that was associated with Samsung. Any suggestions?
Restore Native AT&T Visual Voicemail on any ARHD ROM for the HTC One M8 (only works with AT&T carrier)
S-Off is not required (S-Off is only required if you want to update your firmware to the latest version)
Phone must obviously be unlocked and rooted
I don't recommend using v9.1 ROM, the ElementX kernal will not be updated to support 4.4.3 thus sense 6.0 toolbox homescreen swipe commands and motion gestures will not work. I read that 4.4.4 will be out soon, so no one is really investing time in custom kernals to support sense-based ROMs for 4.4.3. You can still updated your firmware to the latest version and run the 8.1 ROM. I recommend searching for the "no red text" firmware version.
Keep in mind that your Voicemails won't download when you're connected to a Wifi Network. If anyone has a fix for this please post and PM me so I can update this thread.

If your phone is rooted with a custom ROM such as the Android Revolution HD by mike1986 and your visual voicemail is missing, corrupt or broken, I will teach you how to reinstall it! Note, this has only been tested on the AT&T variant of the HTC One M8.
If you're an advanced user you can use the Android SDK, Cygwin and Kitchen to modify the ROM and include the following APKs:
- Phone.apk (replacement rom, newer version)
- ATT_VVM3.apk (new rom)
- HtcContacts.apk (replacement rom, newer version)
- HtcDialer (replacement rom, newer version)
- Message (replacement rom, newer version)
There are many tutorials on this site that explain how to modify and repackage a ROM.
If you want to keep it simple here's the process.
Acquire the apps listed above. Visit my website to download the APKs, just Google Trick Master PC, or you can pull them from your Stock ROM under /system/apps and/or /system/priv-app
Drop the apps on your Internal or External SD Card
Use ES File Explorer to Mount the system directory with Read/Write Permissions
Use ES File Explorer to Install the APKs from your SD location
Use Titanium Back-up Pro (yes, you have to pay for it). Browse the list of applications and find the apps you installed, long press the app and select "Convert to system app", if you have the option to integrate into ROM select that as well.
Restart the phone and set-up your native visual voicemail functionality. This process restores full functionality with zero glitches.

I was really hoping this would work, but every time I try to open the stock visual voicemail app after following this procedure, it force closes..

Yes, that happened to me a few times at first, you have to follow the exact procedure above and you have to restart the phone. As long as your phone is the ATT variant this should work. I had to mess around with it for a while, but got it working flawlessly. Restart after installing the APKs, the use Titanium Back-up to elevate the apps to system level apps. Then restart again.
Yeah I've uninstalled the apps with titanium backup and tried the process multiple times on my ATT variant running Viper ROM to no avail.

I had the same issue. What I had to do was change the SKU to 7 and the Region to 1 in the ACC\default.xml file. This also enabled the VVM button in the phone app.
However, I now have a problem with retrieving voicemails when connected to a wireless network. If I turn off wireless, everything will work fine. When on wireless, it gives an error about mobile data not being available, but it is most definitely on. It's like the messages/vvm apps aren't being allowed to bypass the wifi to check for data.
In case it matters, I am on a stock international ROM (1.54.401.5), and I also could not get the phone.apk to install using the directions above, so I installed the applications using a flashable zip.

This works 100% on the Android Revolution HD Rom for the ATT variant. The ARHD ROM is the stock rom modified by mike1986. I'm not sure how the Viper ROM was developed ie from stock ROM or from KitKat baseline ROM.
Unless your married to Viper I would highly recommend checking out the ARHD ROM, you won't be disappointed. It's an incredible ROM.
Can confirm this works perfect on ARHD ROM by mike1986! Thanks!!! :good:

If your phone is rooted with a custom ROM such as the Android Revolution HD by mike1986 and your visual voicemail is missing, corrupt or broken, I will teach you how to reinstall it! Note, this has only been tested on the AT&T variant of the HTC One M8.
If you're an advanced user you can use the Android SDK, Cygwin and Kitchen to modify the ROM and include the following APKs:
- Phone.apk (replacement rom, newer version)
- ATT_VVM3.apk (new rom)
- HtcContacts.apk (replacement rom, newer version)
- HtcDialer (replacement rom, newer version)
- Message (replacement rom, newer version)

Is this the version of the VVM that integrates into the HTC messaging app?

If you mean not using the standalone google play store visual voicemail then yes.

Yes, this is the app that integrates into your native Messages.apk (scroll left to view voicemails, scroll right to view all messages {VM, SMS, MMS}, and right again to view just SMS/MMS).

Interesting... just tried leaving a voicemail off wifi and voicemail notification went through. Turned on wifi and left a new voicemail and got no voicemail notification. Turned off wifi and refreshed voicemails and new voicemail notification showed up.
So, voicemail works with wifi off. When wifi is on, the voicemail app says there is no data and that it doesnt work over wifi.
On a positive note, transcribe to text works great!
I don't think it should be too hard to fix but then again, I am not a developer.
I have confirmed that everybody on AT&T, tmobile and sprint regardless of your phone type cannot download visual voicemails while on a wifi connection this problem is acknowledged and stated by AT&T, they even add the disclaimer alongside their visual voicemail stand alone app. Iphone users everywhere complain about this as well. Honestly, I never noticed the issue before, but of course who would ever really engage in extensive voicemail testing. Perhaps one day the carriers will solve this issue; although personally I believe it's an intentional move by the carriers to force their customers off WiFi and on to the carriers' very expensive data network. I mean we're talking about tens of millions of dollars per year in data charges just from users downloading voicemails over cellular data on a daily basis. No one in leadership at the major carriers would ever let that revenue slip away, not unless they had to address the issue to resolve competitive threats.
So in conclusion your visual voicemail is functioning perfectly as it should.

I believe this is incorrect. I never had these problems on the stock AT&T Rom. I will reflash and verify, but I am almost 100% certain it worked without issue.

Let us know what you find out, but all the research I did would suggest otherwise. ATT's standalone application for visual voicemail even has the disclaimer in the app store that says it won't work on WiFi. If it works for you please post a copy of your default.xml file \system\customize\ACC\
Thanks.

It did work over WiFi on the stock AT&T ROM using the built-in HTC VVM app. The app appears to be able to use the cellular data connection just like the messages app does to receive sms even when on WiFi.
I have attached the stock AT&T ACC\default.xml, but I doubt that's where the solution lies. I have tried flashing in the APKs listed above, plus the ATT AAinfo.txt, the default.xml files from ACC, CID, and MNS. I also flashed in the market.xml from the permissions folder as well as the nfcee file from the etc folder. The wireless problem still persists for me even with all of those just thrown into the ROM.
Unfortunately, that is as far as I've been able to get with this project. If anyone else has an idea, I'm willing to give it a shot.
Thanks,
JTok
I'll try to wrap my head around this problem initially I did a comparison between the default XML file and the custom ROM default XML file. The variance in the file comparison was nominal, nothing that would affect voicemail download over wifi. I'm going to use the Android development kit to run debug while I launch the visual voicemail app on a wifi connection and monitor the logs for any potential errors. Still if there are any Android developers out there who might know what the problem is it would be great if you could share it with us
Has anyone implemented this in ViperRom? I would love to get this working but really don't want to be the Guinea pig lol
They say in their thread its [email protected] not sure if integrated or not, probably not
