[Q]So is there a Legit answer to the crashing problem?? - HTC Jetstream

I've searched this thread, and google with no clear answer as to what to do to solve this problem, a similar thread exists but it looks just like troll answers so here is my issue! I've rooted and installed the CWM but now my Jetstream seems to crash everytime I press the power button to lock the screen, also when the screen locks itself. I've tried resetting to factory settings, nothing works. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Are you still on the factory kernel or did you upgrade to the DoomKernel? I found the reboots happened with the DoomKernel but have not had a single reboot since I went back to the factory kernel.

Im still on doomkernel, I don't know how to go back to normal, this is my first Android device haha I only got it because it was 169.99 on a one year term since I work for Rogers in Canada. I could fix my iPhone easily but this is proving to be a little more challenging

here's what you need to do:
backup whatever you can
Re-lock the bootloader. (using the instructiones at htcdev.com/bootloader)
download and run the RUU file from htc.com/us
it will update the version of the device and will clear all the data from it, including root access and kernels
now that the device is like new again - root it if you wish to, but do not flash the kernel by doomlord. its not stable.

Okay so to relock bootloader do I just plug it in and go to fastboot and use the command fastboot oem lock? I will try when I get home from work, I tried this before but got an error when I tried to use the RUU installer I cant remember what it was exactly, but ill post results when I have them

Correct. Relock, run the Ruu and then root and install the doom recovery. I've done everything but put his kernel back on (not the insecure kernel, that gives you root) and am very pleased with how my Jetstream functions. Still needs a good custom ROM though.

Alrighty thanks! Will try it as soon as filefactory lets me download my ROM -.- are there any other download links available because the trouble I have trying to download this is ridiculous I've been trying for 2 hours and I keep getting All free download slots on this server are currently in use.
For immediate access, upgrade to FileFactory Premium. Alternatively, you can try again shortly.
Retry download

it says the rom update utility cannot update your phone please get the correct rom update utility and try again

there is a chance that there are two different RUUs. one for Rogers and one for at&t.
try searching rogers for an RUU..

If you look through the forum you will find a link for the Rogers ROM.

Ive tried all three roms found in the dev section! The first two were exes and didnt work and when i tried to flash the zip i get an error that says FAILED Remote: 12 signature verify fail -sigh

if u'r having crashes you need to flash the RUU from Rogers. RUU means Rom Upgrade Utility. it's an exe file published by htc/rogers.
you need to d/l the file, connect the device to the computer and run it, after relocking the bootloader.
the ROMs that are in the development section are very raw and pretty much neglacted by now. do not try to flash them, it will probably only make things worse.

Okay, so where would I find the Rom from HTC. I work for Rogers and we do not provide them.

try searching the forum for a rogers version.
if you can't find one - i'd try resetting the device first.
long press the power button.(20 sec).
than turning it on while holding Vol. down. there you can find the factory reset.
if that takes you to the recovery try wiping all the data (cach, data, delvik whatever)
if nothing works, try the link below. maybe it'll work on your version.

Booo nothing works I give up my jetstream is a brick (((

Ok sir...

Which Rom ? Alien or starwars ?
No problem with English but will be great a Multilingual Rom for all international users...

For the skipping sprint activation you also can freeze all apps with "sprint" (or sprint zone and sprintOmaDm as minimum) in the title via titanium backup.
They have a "stockish" rom that is in the development section that everyone is ranting about. By I personally am running the Alien ROM. which is okay. But I'd go with either Star Wars or the Stockish ROM myself. I'm gonna be flashing over the Stockish one tomorrow.
Thanks to all...
now i'm flashing Alien.....
after, if i'm not happy try others...
Good luck.
Flashing Alien rom will not skip the long network check on boot. Do not and i repeat do not freeze the Sprint zone as this causes a force close when it finishes the check upon reboot and causes it to check over and over again. (first hand experience of this)
Simple solution, put pbone into airplane mode before powering off, add the widget to your home screen. When you re boot knock it out of airplane mode and will connect to your network provider and no need to change any settings.
This was posted in another thread but cannot remember which one.

If your phone is unlocked then flash the full puddin SBF file using RSD. Make sure it's the big file and not the one that's around 1 - 2 mb. Once finished it will say fail, pop the battery and re boot. Should now work again and do the long network check but without force close. Then just use airplane mode before shutting down each time.
Again do not freeze or remove sprint zone, that is the cause of the force close, not the roms.
Maybe an easier way but that's what I had to do.

Freezing SprintOmaDm disables the Sprint check. However, for some reason, the slide locks are disabled.
If there's a fix, I'd love to hear it...

Looks like the pudding_stock_unlock.sbf link is no longer available. I still have it on my machine but it weighs in at just under 2.5GB (silly me, its 404MB when zipped, uploading to FileFactory now)
Think your best option at present is to go back to basics. Firstly flash the stock recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216143
Then download and flash the latest ota for rsd from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202666
Then go through the process of rooting/unlocking.

Yes go through the process of erase recovery then flash the stock recovery, take note that it is .smg just in case you think its .img
Then get RSD fired up and select the official update, phone into rsd mode and wait for it to complete. If all goes well it will say you need to manually re boot your device.
Any probs let us know and will try our best

I flashed it once when i was unlocked and i received a fail to boot message. Forgot to re lock the bootloader yesterday and just flashed and worked with no issues.
Just to keep it safe yes

and i have NOT freezed never Sprint application...

Glad you are back up and running
So you did not freeze the sprint zone at all?
When i flashed the HomeBase Photon Stock rom it went through the network check, hit ok at the end and got a force close. Must admit that never happened with the Alien rom though.
This is why now i am only rooted. Installed the latest update and just rooted. Had too many issues with custom roms, to be honnest stock is very fast and i also use ADWLauncher EX. You can also freeze/unistall the bloatware if need be, there is another thread with a list of safe apps to remove, but not sprint zone lol

[Q] CWM recovery issues

ok first off im on 4.5.91 rooted, unlocked and was running CM7. So i decided was going to try to get rid of the word unlocked at the boot screen so flashed 234-sb-released.zip and that didnt get rid of the word unlocked so i used RSD and flashed and that worked so I rooted my phone again and installed Rom Manager Premium installed CMW it said its installed so when i try to flash a rom or zip I get failed 2 boot. I have looked for the file install-recovery.sh" @ /system/etc as some ppl have suggested and dont see that file so now im stuck the phone boots normal and works fine just cant flash anything I also tried installing
MOTOA4_Bootstrap_0408_1720-signed which lets me enter recovery but gives me all kinds of errors when I try to flash something. Some good advice is needed beside google search as I tried that too!!!

Try re-installing pudding and running the unlock procedure again. Romracer was helping someone out with this yesterday. See here around post 451 on. Not your exact situation, but sounds veeeerrrry similar.
Yeah you can't relock your bootloader but flashing a .sbf will make it look like you did and you'll have to go through the procedure of unlocking it again. But its not actually locked. Its complicated.

so im still unlocked as I thought but the recovery software doesnt believe or see my phone as unlocked so I will have to unlock my phone again in order to be able to flash things again is that even safe

Yes, the link I provided has some follow up from the person who was having this problem. But I believe you will need the pudding file since the original bootloader doesn't have the fasboot oem unlock built into it.
*Edit* You'll also need to install your custom recovery too, since the sbf replaced it.

[Q] Freezes on HTC logo - could use some help

So I was trying to update my old energy ROM to ICS and I'm kind of hosed. Got instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362759
Basically:
- Root your device
- Install a custom recovery
- Install the downloaded ROM .zip found in post #3
- Make sure to do a Factory Reset / Wipe before installing ROM
For the record, these steps are out of order. Steps 4 and 3 are switched and I didn't notice till it was to late. What I did next was do the factory reset and then try to re-install the ROM. Everything seemed to go fine until it was time for a reboot. Then it froze on the HTC logo.
Could use some ideas as to what my next move should be. Since it was a previous version of Energy ROM + Faux kernel, phone is definitely rooted, etc. Perhaps I should start over with a stock Gingerbread ROM?

Apparently I am also supposed to flash the kernel as per this thread which I've finally found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645641
In order to find it, I had to search for it using Google as this forum software is so haphazard. Also not mentioned in the instructions. Will try this next if I can get at it through just the custom recovery.
Still wrong. Coming from GB and going to ICS you need to flash the ICS RUU in bootloader. I don't know how many times its been mentioned or how many other threads have been started because of this issue.

It's Better To Fail At Originality

First im not resbonsible for anything that can happen to your phone this what i do if it didnt work im not resbonsible.
If you are rooted via HTCDev S-On Hboot 1.490018 and up you need to Run a command prompt and flash the boot.IMG that comes with the ROM (if not included extract the ROM and search for its in the .Zip file then move that file into a folder in the Root lf ur C Drive put your phone into fastboot mode (remove battery then put it back then press lock/on button and the volume up button at the same time) then connect it to your PC and run command prompt press on start and search for cmd then run it and type the following :
Cd c:\android (or whatever you named the folder)
After that type:
Fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
After its done unplug your phone from ur PC reboot it and it should work perfectly (it may stay at the HTC Logo for 10-20 minutes)
HOPE IT WORKS ENJOY!

I don't want to put down energy rom, but it hasn't been updated since the original leak, and the instructions were never clarified - he simply never explained the PROPER way to switch from gingerbread to ICS. ARHD gives a better explanation, but I think post #2 in the everything ICS thread gives the best and links to everything you should need..
You have to be careful anytime you are switching to a totally new OS. All the devices I know, switching from 2.1 to 2.2, or 2.2 to 2.3.. or to 4.0+.. it is USUALLY not just a "flash over the old OS".. just something to keep in mind for any of your other or future devices..

Well as far as I know, it ain't like he is getting paid much so it would seem to be a miracle if any of this stuff gets updated. ;-) If I don't have this figured out by Tuesday, I'll use it as an excuse to get a new phone. This one has a crack or two in the screen anyways.
Still, even so I would MUCH rather get this one working again. 'specially since I'm between software gigs & cash is tight. If Energy ROM hasn't been updated and there's a better and/or more complete set of instructions maybe I should be looking at something else. Will continue hunting through these forums for info but can use all the help I can get since this forum software ain't exactly friendly. Probably best to see if I can get it back to stock on ICS and then work forward from there. Having said that, I have an RUU that I am working with, its: PH85IMG_RUBY_ICS_35_S_TMOUS_2.14.531.3_Radio_1.14.550L.17DC_30.78.550L.15_release_259626_signed.zip
Tried just flashing it but apparently there's more to it than that.
Latest problem is that I can't get it re-locked without enabling USB debugging. Can't do this since I don't have a working OS. Can it be done from CLI or recovery?
Uh.... hmmm... mysterious. Seems to have fixed itself. Will try a restart and see what happens.

I was saying that there are some other options, other roms, that have better instructions and have been updated fairly well.. that is all.
The thread I was talking about by glacierguy is here - it links to tons of resources and should answer most questions you may come up with. For example it has "Relock phone (fastboot oem lock)" you can issue fastboot commands while your phone is booted into the bootloader - so this has nothing to do with usb debugging..
There is tons of information here, I know it isn't absolutely organized, but there are a lot of guys here who tried to make the information as easy to find as possible..
Did u try to restart it again it usually takes a couple of times but anyway should either return to stock or use the RUU for the ICS ROM

If you want cutting edge(these both have features no other rom has added yet, and are very current update wise) and like the senseui, try remix's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673609 or if you want with less sense and more of an aosp-ish feel go for his http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623184
ARHD is what is being used for the base for many roms because it is solid and bugless, energy has more features that he had included in his gingerbread rom.. I've heard good things about capromce, but I have no idea what features he has added that are or aren't included in the others..
Heheheh and its not my first language thats why you might see a lot of grammar and/or writen mistakes, just for the futur before you flash any new ROM Back-Up you current or the original ROM just in case something like this happen so you can restsore it without worrying and hope i helped

NRGROM boot loop

Was running NRG GB just fine. When giving the phone to the wife I decided to upgrade to ICS. Used CWM to wipe data, cache, etc, and installed, got freeze on HTC logo. Started using Superwipe before each try and also tried flashing several different kernels including the one inside the zip and the one included with the amaze stock kernel flasher. Now the best I can get is 5 seconds into the Energy spinning rings logo before a 5s freeze and reboot.
The only thing I haven't tried is firmware; I've seen references to "find it on the forums" but copious forum and google searches don't seem to lead to the ICS firmware itself. Can anyone help with that or point out what I'm forgetting?
In the meantime I will try installing the ICS stock ROM first and see where that gets me.

Do just that, remember to lock your bootloader if you're s-on and yes, jumping to an ICS rom without updating your device caused the bootloop.

Thanks for the reply! I'm downloading PH85IMG_RUBY_ICS_35_S_TMOUS_2.14.531.3_Radio_1.14.550L.17DC_30.78.550L.15_release_259626_signed.zip from filefactory, it's taking forever. Don't download that one, it has issues, hold up, I'll give you a link to the most recent file.
Here, get this: http://d-h.st/3VD
Download speed should be faster as well. rename it PH85IMG and place it on your sd card after you relock your bootloader, then boot into bootloader, it's gonna detect the file and ask you if you wanna update, follow the on screen instructions to update, voila! Follow the basics to install the new energy rom.
It's almost as tho NO One reads anymore. It's actually getting kinda ridiculous how many times the same issue is gonna be asked.
I know this post isn't very helpful but I'm sure most of the recognized/senior/not noobs members are getting frustrated.

It is useful, I fully agree with you, it's like we come here to answer the same questions over and over, but I'm just trying to be nice, cause I usually just say, read the amaze bible, but then they go and do something even more noobish, so to avoid the tear jerks I just give the basic info, though I'm fading away slowly.
Thanks'd for the link and the help. I was gonna get mad about being called a noob who can't read, but I guess it's a small price to pay for instant, free help. Keep on rockin' XDA.
I came across this issue. As earlier posts said, install the new ICS update. The partitions were messed up and the ruu will clean it up.

Lol, never pointed fingers buddy, so calm down.
Maybe I should create a new topic but my issue is similar to this one except for the fact that I read quite a lot and tried quite a few things.
My situation is that I made a backup with cwm only booted not flashed so I have the 100% stock backed up, after this I flashed cwm and tried to install the Energy rom based on ics and that was my mistake as I used to be on a Nexus device I didn't have to worry about this.
So I got stuck on a bootloop and tried factory reset/wiping everything, tried to reinstall a stock ROM (t-mobile one as I only found a .exe for the videotron one and I did not feel like exploring the exe as I am a Linux user) by relocking bootloader and using the HTC method, tried to install manually the stock Kernel with Energy ROM using adb and fastboot commands, tried to restore my backup but nothing seems to work, I'm still bootlooping.
Is-it possible to s-off without a regular adb access (only the cwm adb access)? And would s-off allow me to flash anything as I wish? Is there a way to have any ROM working on my device? (i know the answer is yes to the last one, at least )
Thanks!

Maybe I'm a noob on this forum but it's far to be the first time I face a problem in software configuration/installation and I read quite enough (spent about five hours on xda, google, etc.) to say that you should at least help me a bit by linking me to a thread where I can find an answer.
I know my mistake was to install ics at first but now I flashed the stock recovery back, I relocked the bootloader via fastboot and put the file on the root of my sdcard renamed correctly that it be detected automaticly (and it apparently does install) but I still got the * bootloop.
I'm able to read a manual and to read the Amaze 4G bible four times to try to point out the detail I forgot. I made my homework and now it would only be nice from you that you help me a bit...

Okay okay, calm down, there's currently only one method of going about restoring your device since you're s-on and no you cannot s-off with just cwm adb, I think JB s-off method is only an exe file, never saw linux files anywhere on his site. Anyways, you have to use the GB exe for videotron and restore to stock via it then update to ics to use the most recent energy rom, BUT if you just want a working device, this is just an idea, though it should work fine, you can flash a custom recovery and flash the GB version of energy rom, you should be able to restore your backup as well, but you said you can't, which is odd, it may be because of the kernel not being flashable as since CWM cannot flash kernels while s-on, in which case I'd advise you to get 4EXT recovery and then try restoring your back once again, it should work fine since 4EXT can flash kernels while S-ON.
My two cents.
Well, 4ext doesn't works, apparently it flashes correctly but I can't boot in it so can't even try to restore my backup, s-off doesn't works from cwm and my device has to be booted to work with Videotron's exe (or I badly installed my drivers, I nerver understand properly the 899363 drivers per device I have to install for an android phone on Windows?)
Smells bad... I checked the 4ext's md5sum and it's alright, I took it from the fastboot installable img in direct dl from the thread in the Amaze bible.
Any idea?
Oh and there is a JB s-off executable for Linux on his site. After all I guess it is mostly adb commands?

I got lost halfway through that post, after flashing a rom, if the kernel isn't flashed (reboots and does it automatically), then flash the kernel manually, should boot fine, does anyone ever really read anymore? This very issue both s-on and s-off has been answered more times today than I can count. If you read the details on JB's site, you'd see and know all you need to.
Right, I'va already flashed manually the stock kernel as sais in the NRGRom thread without success before my first post here, will look at different kernels.

How did you go about flashing the kernel?
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda app-developers app
There was a flash.sh file in the zip with the kernel, I couldn't run it normally as I can't boot but I went in cwm (maybe I should have used 4ext, don't think so for this part) executed the adb commands there were in the sh file with all filesystems mounted, rebooted into fastboot and flashed the kernel image. Maybe there are differents /system when in cwm and when booted on regular system... Will figure that out when I have time to spend on this, as soon as possible.
Thanks for all the cues!

Okay here's a few tips, cwm cannot flash kernels with son devices, get 4ext recovery for that. Second thing, reflash the from after doing a super wipe, if 4ext doesnt reboot and flash the kernel, do it manually, ill assume you know how to use ad, if not check my Bible tutorial on it, use the boot command for flashing boot images, take the boot file from the zip file, place it in the folder where your adb files are and flash it to your device while its in fastboot mode.

Well, I think I have done all you mention above, the only thing i'm not sure to understand is what you mean by "super wipe" I found some executables about it but I guess it can't do much more than the flash all partitions (except external sdcard) in 4ext recovery wich I finally managed to install properly.
So, I made that global formatting thing, I tried to install an ICS based ROM and 4ext rebooted to install kernel, same bootloop. Tried to install manually the kernel that came with this rom via the classic fastboot flash boot boot.img. Same bootloop. Tried to put the modules manually via the recovery adb access (performing a mount -a in adb shell to have everything present in fstab mounted) and flashing this stock kernel with no more success.
Achieved the same operations with a GB based ROM (this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535173) with both the faux and the stock kernel without any more success.
Did I miss something? Am I so dumb? Do you have any other rom to suggest that have higher chances to succeed?
Do you think trying to restore my sotck nandroid with 4ext has more chances to succeed?
Thanks, again and always!

[Q] RUU help

i am s-off . i got a replacement phone from verizon now i have to return the old one. im trying to get it back fully stock. the phone they sent me has version 3.14.605.12. ive downloaded several ruu. the latest one i flashed was the latest ota with global features. yes i set it in the root of sd card names it properly and did it through hboot. once it installs, the phone restarts and keeps on booting. it gets stuck on the htc logo screen . ive flashed each ruu more then twice and it still does it. any help? also can someone redirect me to a link for the 3.14.605.12 zip ruu thats not android police?
thank you
You can get the release just before that one here:
http://androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Vigor
I don't know why you are having issues, it seems you are letting it run its course and you've run it more than once so it should have gotten all the files it needs. Sorry I can't help with that, but maybe the one in the link above will work.

thank you for responding. I see that those files are .exe how would i go about it?
Actually it looks like it is .12 up there now.
You would run it using your pc. Attach the phone and then double click on the .exe and it should do its thing. I remember seeing instructions somewhere... perhaps they come up with you start it, I think that's it. It will take you through it and has pics of what the screen should look like after it opens up.
Doesnt the phone have to be fully booted so the program can read it?
To be honest I can't remember what state the phone has to be in, it's been a while since I RUU'd.
Try it fully booted, if that doesn't work try it in hboot/[YOUTUBE]fastboot. You might need HTC sync installed as well.
I just looked for the thread of the shipped RUUs in the Development section but no luck, it may not be there anymore. It would have all this info in it. Let me check my notes, if I put anything in there about this I'll post back.

i flashed it twice and it still did not work. it boots to the htc screen and it just restarts again i left it for about 5 mins and it never fully booted. any other suggestions?
Yes! Try using the instructions in the doc I attached and see if you can use the ROM in your "exe" RUU to flash using hboot. Maybe it'll work. The doc tells you how to extract the ROM and make a PH98IMG.zip for it.
Also, you say you were able to run the exe RUU successfully? But then the phone wouldn't boot?
And... you checked the MD5 on all your downloads and they match?
