[Q] question about a rom - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been running CM7 for a few months but as time goes on it seems to get more and more buggy for me. I'm looking for something more stable and I'm considering trying MIUI. Would you guys consider it to be more stable and just out of curiosity how stable are the ICS roms. And what is your recommendation for the most stable roms available.

I've been running THS 6.5 ICS for 3 weeks now with absolutely NO problems. Some people report minor problems (like some camera functions FC, MMS being flakey, etc). You might want to give it a try.

x2!!! I run both aokp ms4 and ths6.5 and both are the best thing since sliced bread for this device! very stable with only a couple very minor bugs.

Partial to ICS
I recently switched from cm7 to THS ICS 6.5. Love it. The only complaint I had was that native tethering wasnt working but I got that fixed with some iptables rules see my other post here on XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540990
Awesome rom easy to flash just follow the directions.

[Q] General Q about ROM Stability.

Can you all be BLUNTLY honest with me and answer my question? : Are the ROMS the DEV teams are releasing actually STABLE daily drivers? I used to be a CrackFlasher back when I had a MT4G and it was very addicting, however I had stable internet and resources so I could easily fix problems and so I never had a big problem if there were minor issues with ROMs. I am now in a situation where I depend on my phone for my internet, for the most part...basically I am just paranoid because many people have TB's where they randomly restart and the battery dies right away etc etc... I haven't experienced any of these problems with MY TB, so I don't want to flash into a new ROM if they aren't stable enough yet. Anyways, any input would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Generally they are very stable. BAMF Forever has proven bulletproof for me.
I keep hearing good things about bamf I think that will be the first rom I try.

I use SkyRaider on my TBolt as well as my wife's. Haven't had any issues whatsoever. It's Gingerbread-based and Sense 2.1 with some Sense 3.0 bits included.
Personally, I think when ROMs are 'pushed' too far, i.e. Sense 3.5, you're taking a chance. Right off the bat, it's likely to be a touchy situation. Does that mean that it will be resolved and work well ? It could.
Another confirmation of the daily stability of SkyRaider Zeus Preview on the Thunderbolt.
It has provided vastly better utility and stability than the OTA releases from VZW/HTC.
may I ask what these new Roms are doing for you that the stock rom didnt? seems like the biggest problems of the TB, I haven't experienced. I just don't want to ttake a good thing aand compromise it if it isn't worth it. what other advantages are there of these new roms?

Hehe, well, I really can't answer that one ! My phone was waiting for me when I got home from work between 5:30 and 6:00. By 8pm, it was rooted and then running SR. My experience with stock is minimal.

[Q] Favorite ICS ROM?

Alright, everyone. You knew this was coming. What's your favorite ICS ROM so far and why do you like it? I've only tried ICS Passion, but it's pretty slick. As a side note, please share whether or not your favorite ROM supports USB mass storage for the SD card. Passion doesn't yet.
Passion supports sd card and has for a while, at least it works on my phone. Passion is made specifically for Vibrant, while ICSSGS is made for I9000 and ported to vibrant, CM9 is what passion is based off of. Currently Passion V13 is the best out there
I have Passion v13 and UMS does not work. I heard that the last compatible version was 10.6, which seems to be the case. Do you have it working on v13?
Edit: Wow, so I just plugged it in and after not working many times, it now works. Both internal and external SD show up too, eventhough ICS isn't supposed to support internal SD storage.
I used it maybe five minutes ago to transfer an apk, and its been working for me since 10.6, when was the last time you wiped?
and yes I have V13
I just flashed v12 a week ago and then v13 maybe 4 or 5 days ago. It seems to be working now, though. Have you tried any ROMs other than Passion?
I used ICSSGS up until V10.6 of passion came out, I recently flashed ICSSGS RC4.2 and it wasn't as smooth as Passion V13
Good to know I made the right decision by going with Passion first. Do you use CPU governor in Passion?
I have been using lulzactive, and the lulzactive app which allows you to customize the governor
Does your keyboard lag a bit when you exit messaging? Because that's really the only thing that's not-so-smooth about Passion.
Yes it does, but I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it. the keyboard also gets laggy after typing more that 100-ish words
v13
I had installed ics v13 last week but could not get GPS to work. The rom itself is awesome and VERY smooth. However, I needed my GPS, so I had to go back to bionix v 1.3.1.
I may try upgrading to ics once the GPS issues have been fixed for most people.

You couldn't get it to work even with AngryGPS? You can also allow apps to find your phone based on wireless networks, but I guess it's a bit late for that.

I came from MIUI, and with ICS have had the same GPS problems. Have you had the mute/unmute bug with bionix? That was why I switched from MIUI. I may switch to bionix if everything works.

I did notice that the call quality was not as great. Some cracking sounds, etc. The UI and everything else on the ROM was awesome. I just think that for me (I use my gps often) it would not work.
Bionix v1.3.1 is great, however it is based on 2.2, and I have had some issues with the notification pull down lagging extremely. I will need to ask in QA if anyone else is having that issue.
you really should make this a poll. i'd be interested in the results. well, my 2 cents: passion is, by far, the most stable and has almost everything working. AOKP and CNA are less stable, but have a lot more customization features.
AOKP is reasonably stable for me using Nelson's latest kernel instead of Glitch. the lockscreen, battery, and toggles are great. only thing i can do without is the pink unicorn.
edit: oh, and haven't tried any others (yet).

I have only tried Passion v12 and v13. the problem for me is that with so many issue still lingering in everyday items (GPS, voice sounds with the MUTE/UNMUTE 'fix'), I will rather stick to a Gingerbread or Froyo Rom.
I currently use FishManMod's Bionix v1.3.1 with the BlueMyst theme and I also installed the ICS fonts. Looks great, is fast, and everything works.
Until there is a smooth ICS rom with good battery life (reason why I hated CM7) and everything working, I won't go through the hassle of upgrading.
That's just my two cents.
I used to use Passion, but then I switched to OneCosmic RC3.1 and found it incredibly smooth. However, in order to get my GPS to work, I had to use the Passion kernel with OneCosmic's ROM. When I tried upgrading to OneCosmic RC4.x, it wiped my EFS...I learned the hard way that a backup was necessary. I ended up getting that fixed, and since then, I've switched to Passion v13. I find it to be great so far...everything seems to work well: GPS; purchasing apps from Market; etc.
Maybe if/when OneCosmic puts out RC5, I'll switch back over and check it out.
I got my gps working using this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1370910
Now that passion v13 is working and seems to be stable, I'm going to stick with it for awhile. Until something more interesting comes along... AOKP sounds interesting - thanks db3.

[Q] Wanting a new ROM, cant decide.

I have Eclipse 1.1 (old I know) it was great when it first came out and I flashed it. But now I need something new bc its not working as good, and I know theres better versions and other ROMs that are possibly better.
Any suggestions on which ROM to flash and why?
Depends on what you want. If you want a fully functional ROM I'd check out the latest edition of Eclipse.
Cyanogenmod 7.2 rc1 has a small amount of bugs, but is for the most part fully functional. HDMI mirroring doesn't work and that's the one and only downside to me. I still use CM7 as a "daily driver" so to speak. Lots of customization and with the hacks/mods found in this forum I get excellent signal strength, connection speeds and battery life. Wifi still sleeps when the screen's off, but with the v3 build.prop mashup it reconnects on waking within seconds every single time.
Cyanogenmod 9 alpha 3 is somewhat buggy as it's in its early alpha stages. There's no camera yet, but DZK already said there will be a fix for alpha 4. Same with aces miui. It's real slick, being on ics. I like it, but won't stay until there's a working camera and more stability. When that happens this rom will be simply amazing. Overall it's pretty sweet and at the very least, worth checking out/playing around with.....
MIUI4 will be awesome too once the bugs are sorted and fixed. As stated before- the next release will also have a working camera. MIUI is probably one of my favorites if not my favorite but right now its way too buggy for me to use. More so than cm9. Couldn't deal with the bugs Ace is hard at work bringing us more updates and when he finally gets this where he wants it MIUI will more than likely replace cm7 as my daily rom. It's a great ROM in general but I couldn't stay on miui for more than like an hour, personally.
Definitely go into each roms topic and check out the screenshots and videos if there are any. Also look for the working features and known bugs/issues. Honestly I say give them ALL a try and see what best suits you. I only really posted about the newer ones. If I remember correctly molten isn't being updated anymore after 2.3 and I keep forgetting liberty even exists, lol.......
Cyanogenmod all day
I started with Eclipse 1.3 and then went to 2.1 running scripts and about everything else with it. Then when CM9 alpha came out, I had to try it. CM9 alpha works great for me. I needed my camera, so I flashed back to CM7. When the beta version of CM9 rolls around, that's gonna be the ticket!
IMHO- CM7
I can't believe how smooth and FAST my phone is with CM7. The camera works great, very little to no lag at all with anything I have found. There's all kinds of customizations for it. I'm not running any scripts, only CM7 and SD Increase from the market. My phone is fun again and I'm not hesitant to show somebody up with a whyphone like I was before. Try it and see.
Also check out this thread for sure!!

Are you pretty good with computers, tech, etc.? If you want a fast update, just flash CM7 since it is on the same kernel as the version of Eclipse you are on. If you try to update to the latest Eclipse, you have to go through the process of using the SBF to get to stock, updating to 2.3.5 then flash the new version. Its up to you though. CM7 and Eclipse are the most stable ROMs we have at the moment until some bugs get worked out in CM9.
Thanks everyone. I am on Eclipse 2.2.1 as of right now (w/speedy script 7 and other tweaks/apps). Ill probably try CM7 in the future since its already on my sdcard.

Just remember you need to be on 2.3.4 before flashing CM7.
Man I don't know what it is but.....
I used to run Eclipse 2.1 and scripted to the 23498457890345th power maxed out turnaround wing dinger squared. I thought it was as good as it could get. But when I went to CM7, I giggled at what I "thought" I had. Hands down the way to go, until CM9
I would use cm7. Just because its stable and has the best UI in my option and has pretty good performance. or you could wait for cm9 to get more stable with a working camera and better performance.
Liberty 3
Just Rooted and Flashed for the first time.
I went with Eclipse 2.2.1 - because the HDMI support was kind of a deal breaker for me. (Netflix, FPSE, SnesEX, etc. on a big screen!) But I was wondering why none of you mentioned Liberty 3? I haven't tried anything other than Eclipse 2.2.1 so I don't have an educated opinion to share, but other than CM7 it seemed like Liberty 3 and Eclipse were the two other "stable" ROMs in the DEV section.
Is Liberty "bad" or do you guys just not use it, and why?
Also, I flashed what I *thought* was the latest build of Eclipse 2.2.1 (from the official thread) but there are only 5 pull down toggles on my notification panel - I thought there were supposed to be 7? Did I miss something?

I haven't been on eclipse in a while so I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but I thought there was an option in settings to set those.
I can't say for sure why nobody mentioned liberty though, it might be because it doesn't offer much compared to eclipse. Also, it was supported for maybe 2 months max while I'm pretty sure nitro is still pushing out updates for the x2(somebody correct me if I'm wrong).

I totally agree with this guy. It all depends on what you want out of your phone. If you can sacrifice the extra cool doohickies I say CM9 all the way cause alpha 4 just came out and it's pretty sweet, working camera too.

I loved cm7 as my first and only rom but my 3g sucks, dolphin force closes, camera is buggy etc I'm going to reflash before jumping to eclipse which I've heard is most stable ...
I loved cm7 but the broken orientation sensor in the kernel killed it for me. I now run eclipse 2.2.1. It was a bugger to get installed. Having to wipe cache at a different point than instructions indicate. And also I have a little touch-screen delay.

[Q] CM10

Hey guys,
Since it came out, I've been wanting to give CM10 (or any JB rom) a try, but the fact that this vibrant is my only phone is keeping me from doing it. So now, after a few months of development, my question is: Would you say the latest CM10 is at least as stable as CM9? I've been running CM9 as my daily driver for the past several months and have had no problem big enough to make me go back to froyo. I understand neither of these is considered "stable" yet, but if it does at least as well as CM9 (which is pretty stable other than GPS) then I want to give it a try.
I would appreciate it if you could also take the time to point out any potential deal-breakers on CM10, or any specifics that I (average guy who follows step by step instructions) should be aware of before flashing it.
Thank you.
Other than the obvious GPS and possible 911 issues, all the vibrant JB Roms are solid IMO.I tried cm10 preview, before the official+nightlies were released. It was decent then so I'm sure its even better now. I used HB for awhile with no issues. Now I'm on on Paranoid Android, this ROM is gangbusters sick. Very fast and has awesome features. Slimbean has had a lot of great reviews but I haven't tried it.
I don't think you'll will be disappointed with any of them.
Paranoid, sitting in a deep sweat...
I agree. I was on a few of the Helly Bean builds, and was quite happy with them. On a tip I decided to try Paranoid Android, and it's fantastic.
I suggest you do some reading up on each of the options available for our Vibrant. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how well your Vibrant runs with JB.
Thanks guys. Do you know of any specifics I should watch out for when flashing (other than the potential EU bug)?

Ive tried CM10,paranoid and now im on slimbean. I like slimbean the best. Its really all having to do with personal preferences. All 3 are great ROM's for the Vibrant.
*UPDATE*
Just wanted to share my experience on JB roms after having flashed CM10 a couple days ago. To answer my original question, it is just as stable (probably more so) as CM9 and other ICS roms. Literally everything works perfectly (again, from my experience) except for GPS, and even that has been reported to be better than on CM9 roms. Google now, expanding notifications, project-b and everything else works just as snappy as you would expect.
btw, I assume all other JB roms are this stable, not only CM10 (personal preference).
You might want to try the GPS hardware fix to get it working, I'm getting GPS signal fine with JB. Although ICS do get faster locking.

[Q] Help deciding if I should update to CM10 from CM9?

Well my problem is that I haven't had any problems, lol. Let me make that a little more clear, I've been running my MoPho on Jokers CM9 7.0.0 for MONTHS since the day it came out. And it was so stable I never bothered looking to update any more after that. Truth is before Jokers CM9 I hadn't flashed any ROMs on this phone before, I went straight from stock to I think version 3.8 or so. And I've been a loyal Joker fan ever since. But after I quit updating I lost track of what issues have been fixed, and what issues have arisen. So I'm really at a lost for what to do, I don't know what has been happening on the scene, and unfortunatley, I'm in need of update because I have started getting bigger and bigger issues with this release. Crazy stuff really, I don't think anyone else are having these issues, and I'm sure it's because I've stayed on this release for so long, in fact I've been on this same install since June I believe.
Anywho, I'm trying to figure out what I should do from here. I really need the update because my phone is starting to become a little unusable. And I'm starting to have to do workarounds for workarounds. So is CM10 the way to go? Or is there any other ROMs worth looking into, and if I do go with CM10, what would be the best update process to go from 7.0.0 to latest without doing a fresh install if possible. If not what Jelly Bean ROM is the most stable right now? Also, is there any GB ROM that is up to par with JB?
TL;DR stuck on bugged legacy ROM, need to find the latest and greatest with the least amount of issues.
Also! If any devs happen to pop over this thread (if I were lucky enough), and they want some reports of what issues I'm running into with my install I'd be more than willing to tell you about them, screenshots, reproducing them, etc. They're really interesting to say the least. I've got one that causes thumbnails in my gallery to be replaced by images I've never even taken or seen anywhere else. And they also tend to be pretty risque!
This CM10 rom by Th3Bill is my daily driver for about a month now. To install this rom you'll have to do a fresh install, you can't upgrade it over CM9. There are some minor issues, as is the case with every aftermarket rom.
Do it. Th3Bill's CM10 is as good as any right now. CM9 for the Photon didn't have a chance to fully mature before CM10 came along.

I'm on my phone right now, so searching isn't really pheasible for me. Would you mind telling me what the major issues are? I'm assuming all the.old driver issues still exist.
Cm10 's issues include but are not limited to : video cam borked (use video cam illusion)
Usb tether borked
And possible slight lag on screen transitions.
However my new latest and greatest daily driver is Th3Bill's Liquid Smooth.
With the same issues as cm10.
Go to Th3Bill.com and check out all his great work!
