[IDEA] Porting Vertumus' ICS Domination Theme for SGP - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

NOTE:I am certainly not a developer nor do I know anything about porting. This is just an idea that I have in mind.
After seeing ICS Domination's Theme from Vertumus, I have grown to favour it. However, it is only available for SGS2. Recently, I PM'd Vertumus asking if we can port it and I still do not know the answer.
If he says we can, can anyone take the role of porting it (if possible)?

UPDATE: He accepted my request though I unfortunately do not know how to port.
Can someone take the role or teach me the basics to this?

I am still pretty new when it comes to android developing, but I have been learning and will try to take a look at his theme. But don't expect much though; I'm still learning the basics of smali coding.

Thats fine. At least your better than me

That theme is awesome... I cant believe is gingerbread... I wish meticulus, entropy or somebody else port this...

+1
And btw, if this project is a go, I will post or PM the conditions to you about using his work

Ok. At the moment I'm stuck on my own theme port, which won't accept to work . So i will try this first.
Using YP-G1

John_2k2 is porting it in his ROM. 'GingerGeneric' for SGP 5.0 he's already ported it just doing some testing
Sent from my Galaxy Far Far Away Player 5.0

I will sent him an pm. I will try to make it flashable.
He isn't ready yet. I will wait until he is ready.

Good idea, you can use CM9 now.

But only on the 5.0, and we need it for 4.0 also.

[Q] Developing ICS for HTC Sensation

Hello.
I'm trying to get ICS working on my HTC sensation. I was wondering what I need to do to make it work on my device.
I have ICS working in the emulator but I want basicly port it to my sensation
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
That's much work
You have to port device-specific things that's the trick.
If you aren't an expert on these things you should wait until CyanogenMod9 is released and then the developers will port it to all compatible devices
Yeah it is and its going to take 2 months for cm9 to come out plus I want learn how to do it...sooo as far as I know I need to port over the lib files, maybe egl for graphic, change the boot img, and other things
I have the basic knowledge of porting but I was just wondering if it also applies to the ics source code

So just get the update, use CM9 to figure out how to get the device specific parts, and go bananas on your own ROM. If that is to much, you should probably see what you can do to help CM (and learn along the way) or just buy an ICS device to hack.
It might be worth the kicking around for fun and education (that's why I would: curosity), but otherwise it's faster warm and fuzzies to spend $ and more benifit to everyone to expand an existing project, to learn more on how to do your own. Just my two cents but good luck, hope you get a nice ROM going for your wants.

Thanks man that does help out... how can I help cm?

I assume like any other open source project, get involved. They seem to have a very handy wiki: wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Main_Page and issue trackers. You could probably walk into their IRC channel and ask if there is anything specific that needs help, and poke around the issue tracker. N.b. on IRC asking any question can take a few hours to get a reply though, depending on who is reading vs lurking.

We're also working on a Sensation ICS port over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1349908

[4.0]ICS Port Progress

Hello Guys,
i opened this Thread, so that the Galaxy Player 5 and 4 don'T share the same thread for ICS.
It's to confusing.
I will also update this Post with the current state of work.
Reserved for future post
Yeah um, ambrice came out with CM7 and tdmcode also came out with CM7 and there are free ics themes on the Play Store that you could use with Theme Chosser, soo..... This isn't really nessacary... Sorry.
No, this is for Galaxy Player 4.0
Not for 5.0
At the moment the ICS Port thread is used for both.
And CM7 is not ICS. On the 4.0 we also have CM7 but thats not the point.
Thanks for your reply.
Using YP-G1
Thanks for the thought but the 4.0 and 5.0 players are similar enough that one thread is really nice, at least for me (I just hope JackpotClavin doesn't get too irritated by me tagging along on his coattails and asking questions). IMO it would be better to have a separate thread for CM7 and CM9.
Also, I have a project on github created for all the ROMs. It will host both CM7 and CM9 for 4.0 and 5.0 players. Assuming all the devs agree, and they all have so far.

You have to be kidding me. You think a them of an OS is just as good as the OS itself. "Check it out guys, with the theme I can run Chrome!! .. nvm"
Ok i didn't knew. The ROMs are interchangeable between 4 and 5? That means, we only need kernel or? I have eu player, so if I could help. I will help.
Thanks

I originaly made ICS Port thread for the 4.0 (but I didin't specify it because it is only the method of porting it) with the time it became the HQ for ICS port to both galaxy players. (4.0 and 5.0)
But it the screenshots of the post it displayed a 5.0?
Sent from my Galaxy Far Far Away Player 5.0
Well just because it contains a screenshot for the 5.0 (and it wasn't even me) dosen't mean the thread is for the 5.0.
True. I understand now tho
Sent from my Galaxy Far Far Away Player 5.0
Don't you think you should have the 4.0 CM9 ROM in this thread? It'd be lot easier for them....
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Nexus PLAYER ^_^
Yes it should be postet here.
Wait, CM9 has been ported to the 4.0?? Man, I need to keep better track of what's going on around here, lol!
Sent using the XDA app.
Not ready yet. Wait some time
Could we have an update on the port? I am really excited to see a alpha or beta version.

[REQ] Porting Samsung's ICS ROM to SGP

Just a personal request as I enjoy Samsung services that are current not present in both CM9 and AOKP builds. Hope that this can be done and thanks in advance!

Nothing wrong with asking, but try to not post in development unless you actually have something you developed (some people around here get really upset about that sometimes )

Same here. I'd love to see a TouchWiz ICS port for our Galaxy Player.

Porting Newest Touchwiz-UX ROM
I know that this is a really old thread to bump, but with the new Touchwiz-UX of the GS3, it is even more appealing to have. I really hope someone would port this, even though we have a Remics-UX ROM that replicates the newer Touchwiz.
Please reply if you are interested.
I've actually worked on this with my dev team and v2.x.x of RemICS-UX was supposed to be based on Samsungs ICS. However we've kind of abandoned the idea as it was too difficult to implement. It only works on devices which already have an ICS ROM from Samsung as that make a lot of changes when compared to AOSP

Ubuntu player?

Ubuntu phone ROMs are available for Nexus devices, and from what little I've read, if you can install CM10 you can install Ubuntu. I know we have some CM10 projects, but is anyone interested in trying to get Ubuntu phone to run on a Player?
Sent from my YP-G70 using xda app-developers app
I dont have a linux system currently or any dev experience at all (other than making a "hello world" app)lol but im extremely interested in this project, im at least up for testing if necessary

It is definitely possible however it hasn't been fully released yet, it would be quite difficult to port it at this stage.

Just to give you guys a heads up.
The Ubuntu touch Dev preview is just a preview. Hardly anything works and it's just not made to be used right now. So I don't think the D's devs would waste their time on this.

Yeah, I noticed that when I went back to the site for a closer look. Still, glad to see I'm not the only one interested.
