[Q] Apps purchased since switch to Google Play won't download? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I seen posts here about apps showing up as purchased that aren't. My case is different. I purchased apps, via Google Play, and now can't download them. Not just to my Xoom, but also my SGS2. I've tried all download fix options on the Google site, even talked to a tech (who asked I do them again, and then respond via email).
Another option would be to do a factory wipe/reset. Since I'm playing around with ICS, I decided to revert back to factory on the Xoom and try again. Still no luck. Just stays at "Starting download". No percentage. No little "downloading..." message under it. Can't even cancel it from downloading.
There probably won't be a real solution here, but while I wait for someone from tech support to get back to me, I may as well ask here. It couldn't hurt.
And I've tried the following options:
Cleared the cache and/or data
Uninstalled updates
Logged in and out of the "Talk" app several times
Rebooted
Tried requesting from the store web page on my desktop
Tried over different wifi networks
Tried over Verizon
Tried over AT&T
Tried with ICS 4.0.3
Tried with Gingerbread 2.3.6
Tried with Honeycomb 3.2.6
Tried with a factor reset/wiped Xoom (using .img files directly from the Motorola web site)
I have plenty of free space available
Did I miss something somewhere? I know if this doesn't get resolved, both of my android devices will have become useless to me.

Everything works now. Contacted Google about it, although they weren't of much use. Within a couple days it miraculously worked again.
But, even when switching back to factory, some apps I downloaded no longer seem to work for tablets. Go figure...

This seems to be a wide spread problem that occurs when first updating to the Play Store. I've seen numerous posts in different forums and for different phones about this issue. From the posts that I've read it usually seems to clear itself up after days of the update. Just give a day or two and try it again.

[Q] market problems

(solved) ok ive posted this once before amd didnt get a single hit on it...i cant seem to buy apps on the market ever since i changed from orig stock vibrant rom ,ive tried 3 roms now,axura,nero3,and now nero4 and still i cannot buy apps,,when i try all i get is "server error occured try again or cancel, and yes ive tried & tried again. has anyone else has this problem? any ideas on how to fix? ive tried alot of things but to no avail.
after much searching the internet both on and off this site i found the solution,,,very simple....i wasnt signing back into the marked the the same gmail account i orig. opened it in when i first bought the phone, what a bother
So im havng pretty much the same problem but a little different, i cant download any apps it says the download starting but never actually does.. and the notification on top never shows up when you click on my apps it like in a state of starting to download, but obviously doesnt, now this maybe my fault prob my stupidity i rooted my vibrant and deleted some default apps that what prob is my problem, so is there anyway i can restore to original? tyvm
Same here it started off with me not being able to buy adw ex. now none of the paid apps in the market. I've flashed, odined back to stock, did all the suggestions i've read about in the forums still the same error message.
I had this issue as well with paid apps. I went to google checkout, updated payment information and made sure it was associated with my google account. After this was done i've had no problems whatsoever. Hope this helps..

Missing Apps on Rooted Global Generic

Guys,
Hope you can help. Am at my wits end. I peformed a clean, official reflash via SEUS this weekend as I had made a mess of my build.prop file and a lot of apps had disappeared from the market.
I'm now running Global Generic, 024
I thought this would solve my woes, but several days later, I am still missing a number of apps, most notably the new Amazon UK app. In fact no official Amazon shopping apps appear. A few others are missing too, but Amazon seems a good benchmark as it's new, international and free - no reason for it not to be there.
I've cleared every cache, I've uninstalled Market updates, I've rebooted countless times, I've changed the clock to 2359 and left it 10 minutes. I've reinstalled the market apk. I've even used Root Explorer to check the Market data and the fingerprint is registered. I'm absolutely stuck.
Have I missed anything? Can anyone confirm they've succeeded in downloading the Amazon UK app? Can anyone get me out of this coz its driving me crazy!
Thanks so much for reading and hopefully helping!
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Just to clarify, I have waded through various things on this forum for hours - I also tried Market Enabler - I even tried spoofing with my own SIM code in ME!
OK - I've reflashed (again), I've tried leaving wifi unconfigured and just using 3G, I've tried booting with no SD card in case there's an offending file there. I'm really running out of ideas. PLEASE - someone step up to the bar and give me some more ideas!
try my tutorial
Thanks - I have more apps now, but the Amazon ones (all countries) are still missing.
Can anyone confirm that they DO have the Amazon UK app appearing in their market on the x10?
Try and install it from the new Android Market website.
https://market.android.com/search?q=Amazon
Thanks - but all the Amazon apps are greyed out and say "Not Compatible With Your Device".
I have the .apk - but there's clearly something wrong here and I want to get that fixed - both for peace of mind and my own bloodymindedness!
UPDATE: It looks like Amazon are either telling porky-pies or the developer has goofed. I can confirm that Amazon is not available on the ZTE Racer either, suggesting that despite claiming that it is available on 2.1, it's not appearing in the market.
It does work from an .apk, suggesting it's a mistake.
Thanks to everyone for their help.
Hmm I can see when I try to install it, It says that the app is Carrier Specifik.
So I guess you would have to be on the right carrier to get this app.
My mate on O2, running Froyo can get it. I can't get it on 2.1 spoofing O2 on Market Enabler.
Quick update..... having discovered that it is missing from the ZTE Racer and GT540 too, I called customer services who assured me it was available to 2.1 users. Despite a flurry of calls from a very helpful chap over the past two weeks, their dev still hasn't managed to fix it.
Strikes me that this is a pretty epic fail for such a big company. There are threads about it on some other forums, but I was apparently the first person to report it. Shows how relatively few are the people who want an Amazon app, still running 2.1...

Error - Application Already Exists when updating Market apps

It seems that many, if not all, of the apps I try to 'update' in the Android market generates an error on the Prime that says 'Application already exists' in the menu bar with an ! icon. This is annoying... I can uninstall / reinstall the app to get an update, but whenever I just click update in the Market, I get this error a lot.
Of course the application already exists! I'm updating it. Stupid Prime.
Does anyone have a fix for this? I searched the forum and didn't see anyone mention this annoying problem.
Are you getting system reboots?
Rumour has it the system reboots are a result of a failure while optimizing apps for ICS during the upgrade process.
Sounds like perhaps your OSs view of your apps is a little messed up...

No. Actually, I seem to have the least amount of problems with the Prime compared to most on the forum. Really, this issue and the weak GPS signal are the only ones I've had. Well, and the decreased wifi bandwidth when streaming bluetooth. But everything else generally runs smooth.
Two apps for example that I had this issue with... updating Google Voice and eTrade. Both of those for sure gave me the error that the app already existed. Uninstalling and reinstalling worked fine to grab the latest version.
Actually, I take that back. Sometimes when I do an uninstall / reinstall, it still says there is an update available.

Unfortunately I have the same issue. I haven't found a good way to work around it yet. As you have found sometimes uninstalling works and sometimes not.
Sometimes uninstalling it, rebooting the Prime, then reinstalling it works. Although, that's still sometimes as far as I can tell.
I've just started getting this issue when trying to update Officesuite Pro, first time it's happened.
Oddly enough when first typing this reply my Prime locked up and rebooted itself, which it's not done before.
Never had a reboot under ICS, at least not yet. But quite frequently have this problem. So I guess there is no correlation between the two.
The only anomalies that I experience are Skype or Talk video calls that suddenly die. No FC or any other message, Skype or Talk just exit.
I bet these types of problems will go away with a root and a custom rom in the future. Wish Asus would release the bootloader unlocking tool already!

Can you do that on a non-rooted Prime? I'm just waiting for the official unlock tool to go through that process.
This has happened to me on select apps too. Particularly xe app and officesuite pro. Can't seam to update them to the current version no matter what I do. Unistall/reinstall, clear delvik, and clear market data hasn't worked for me

I have the same problem, and i tried everything but it didn't work
Yeah... right now for me, it's Google Voice. And the worst part is, you can't get it to stop saying it's updating the market app even though it stops almost immediately. Annoying.
I get this sometimes, but I press update again and it updates fine
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Random reboot is a normal way of life with android. A reboot here or there is nothing to worry about. Most of the time its from a bad app you installed. Now if you rebooting several times a day, then that's a problem. Its actually good to reboot or at least power down n then back on device every once in a while. It'll give device a fresh start on RAM and clear any mishaps that may have or could occur. Same deal with Ipad. They recommend rebooting every now n then for a fresh start and to have more ram available for use.
I haven't had this happen on my Prime, but I was having this same issue today on my Sprint GSII.
Not sure if this is a work around, but it just worked for me. Instead of updating the app from the 'my apps' section of the market, I went to the page in the market with the full app description. I clicked the update link there and it installed fine. I'll have to test this theory out more.
i too am facing similar probs. while updating WhatsApp and Skype too it shows that the application is already existing.
pls. note. both WhatsApp and Skype are under different Accounts
can this cause a prob that previously i would have installed it by 1 account and later on by another account when i changed the phone ?
pls. guide.

[Q] "Your device isn't compatible with this version"

This is my phone:
Model: Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: I9100XXLPS
Kernel Version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913

Build number: IML74K.XWLP7
The problem I’m having is that I cannot download, install, or update any app through the Google Play Store; the title of this thread is the message I get. I’m aware that there have been several other threads on this topic; believe me when I say I’ve tried every one of the suggested remedies, and none has worked.
Having successfully flashed ROMs a number of times since I’ve had this phone - without problems - this issue arose after I decided to try out the latest CyanogenMod 4.2 Jelly Bean ROM and - having decided I didn’t want to stick with it - switched back to a stock ICS ROM, which is what I had in place before this trouble started. I won’t bore you with all the different things I’ve tried; my question now is this:
If I do a total wipe and factory reset, what is the likelihood that the problem will persist? The reason I am uncertain is that the problem appears to be linked to the device settings in the Google Play store, which appear to survive whatever is done to the device. Since my thought is to reinstall everything from scratch after the reset, I don’t want to find, after putting myself through all the work involved, that the problem is still there.
All advice welcome.
you didn't just duplicate this thread, did you?
I saw a google play thread somewhere around here.....
sent, and now this app cra.........
Did you change the DPI when you are changing ROMs? If so, then you need the Multi DPI Play Store, link.
Even if not, you can try the steps from the link above in terms of clearing data and rebooting to see if that would help. Once you fix the issue on your phone, the Google Play Store will no longer show apps as not compatible from phone and PC.

OK, I've now followed all the steps in the link - absolutely no difference. A further clue to this issue seems to be that if I use the Google account I originally set up this phone with, Google Play thinks it was registered on Jan 3rd (the day I tried the CyanogenMod ROM); to try and get around this, I opened a fresh Google account with a new email address; this account thinks "There are no Android devices associated with this account.", even though I've registered it with Play Store on the SGSII. It seems to me that this is not a technical issue with the phone or its software, but an issue with the Google Play Store and its associated servers.
So, it's back to my original question: if I do a total wipe and factory reset, is it likely that the problem will persist? And if so, are there any viable alternatives to the Play Store?
that....could work.
It's similar to the "Can't connect to server due to Unsecure network" issue (or something like that). Look into that, might bring some light into this matter.
I have to tell you that I don't know exactly which of the many things I tried actually made a difference, but - I've fixed it!
The last two things I did - and I had already tried these before - were found on androidforums.com - but it seems I'm not allowed to post the link. Perhaps I can tell you that after the website comes a slash, then samsung-galaxy-nexus, then a slash, then 525874-you-don't-have-any-devices, then a dot, then html.
So - thanks for your help, and I hope others with the same problem will persevere. And to sort of answer my own question, you don't have to do a factory reset to fix this - but it's still not clear to me whether it would have solved the problem.
Anyway, now I'm going to sit on my hands and wait for the official JellyBean release from Samsung, which looks to be coming soonish....
Glad to hear that. It musta been something to do with account and what not.
And yes, JB is coming, ask the koreans.

The strange case of recurring malware

Ok first let me tell you guys that i have never seen this problem before and all of a sudden TODAY I saw it in two unrelated phones, one huawey ascend 530 something , and the other one a no brand chinese dual sim note 3 or note 4 knockoff , bot phones where stock , and users dont even know what rooting is, let alone custom roms.
The problem was popups , lots of them , some with pr0n ads, others with "security software" ads, some more for games, this popups started as soon as the phone booted, no need to enter a browser or app at all, then it started downloading some more apps with weird names (weird as apparently random garbage names), and some other apps for coupons, games, launchers etc, tons of crap, every time one finished downloading it was asking for which method to use for installation :google verification or something else I think "package installer" that i don't remember now, but that I know both are legit apps from android to install stuff, of course I said no every time but it just kept asking so I figured I will factory reset this because I have no time but he is a friend so I need to help him, but have not much time so I thought that was the best thing to do.
WRONG, after factory reset (from settings menu) popups where still there, so I just figured I would do it from recovery screen, and I did, ... surprise, popups still there and also the downloading notifications of more unknown apps, as I said before some of them had names like games or security software, other were just random gibberish, sometimes an app with chinesse name crashed (force stop) , when I saw that the first time I immediately knew it was some chinesse malware crap, ok I guessed maybe the sdcard had something sticky on it , hidden partition or something, so I removed it, and reset again, ... problem persists, oh and let me tell you, this problem showed up immediately after boot, I didn't even have the chance to register a google account, so crap was not coming from a google sync data or or synced apps or browsers or something , well then I had the idea of turning off the wifi and see if they stop, some of the popups opened browser pages and other popups just opened by themselves as if it was from an already installed app.
results: the damn thing turned wifi ON by itself to keep downloading their ****y apps, so I just deleted the saved wifi networks, and the damn thing started using the mobile data to keep doing its stuff (it even turned data on).
There was only one 2 things left to do, either try to root the phone and dive in the apps to try and remove any suspicious ones, or reflash with stock.
Well I had to leave by that time and told my friend i would like to help him, but it would have to be some other time, coz I know how hard it is to try and find a rom for an unknown chinese manufacturer even if I find one, trying to figure out the links in chinesse pages I doubt it would be an exact match (had done that before, so I know its difficult and takes many hours of your time) it had JB on it.
Then I arrived to work and a coworker asked if I could help him , it was a Huawei ascend G527-U081. exact same symptoms and behavior, ok so again I did factory resets blah blah erase sdcard etc etc, same results malware persisted, but in this case, it took me less than 5 mins to find the stock rom at huawey support page, downloaded it, did update via sdcard, and VOILA FIXED.
So someone who knows more about how could this infection happen can take some time and try to explain me?
My uneducated guess is that some side-loaded app or downloaded app from the webpages ads or something like that got ROOT access to the phone internally or even rooted the phone with their own root renamed app, and somehow put themselves in the system partition or the place where the factory apps are installed from, i guess that's why only a full flash fixed it.
Could that be it?
I hope no one here gets that crap, I have never had any malware in any of my phones and I am even surprised and wonder what people can possible do to get infected that bad, lol, I don't think I could even on purpose, but then again, having an adaway app takes most of the dangerous ads away so no risk clicking them by mistake.
Hi,
By any chance did you save the apks that were the cause of this as I would like to decompile and test them under a VM maybe we could take them offline or attempt to get a warning out there.

I thought as much but this is the second time I've seen someone post something similar, brand new install on the phone or factory reset and mileage downloading apps, I do believe this could be a new malware out of China.
This is a common thing with Chinese devices. They mostly contain malware. This is why China based devices are not big with most of the world.
If is built into their os. You can't really remove it.

To my knowledge it's the one app "pornclub" that installs all those junk applications. This app somehow access the root on non-rooted phones and reinstall automatically even if you hard reset the phone. Removing this app after rooting may be helpful. This malware also appeared in ASUS Nexus tablet and other phones. So it is not linked to some specific make. People who download apps from third party sources should be careful and get them only from sites which display hash info for play store apps. Besides avoid downloading junk porn apps.
I also have a similar malaware on my note5. I did a factory reset and when I checked my chrome I had no ads but when I reconnected to my Internet I instantly started downloading galaxy apps and when I checked my chrome again I had a ad by mgid again.

thanks for the reply. I'll try flashing the existing ROM again and see if I get rid of it. There's also some info on that on https://blog.avast.com/2013/10/23/no-pleasure-from-this-adult-app-only-pain/
edit: It worked! I flashed the same ROM on the phone again and now the phone responds fast again.
Which AV/anti malware app would you recommend to avoid this incident in the future - and I don't want thousands of other apps that come along with it (battery saver etc.)?

Actually I use NONE, the problem was not on my phones, I just dont install anything that doesnt come from trusted sources , be it development forums like this , or play store, or other well known pages, what I do USe is an adblocker, most of this malware comes from popups that suggest you install something else, well with adaway i get rid of most of that and have never had malware on any of my phones
hi i am having a same problems which u've mentioned above. ive tried factory reset ,erasing sd card, reboot and all but it doesnot remove totally from my phone.can anyone tell me how to fix this problem and get rid of this malicious app and virus.
I have same problem, i tried malwarebytes and the following was found backdoor.triada.js, trojan.rootnik.ab, trojan.agent.gc, trojan.sivu.rn, trojan.sinu.c, and bct_service app. I click delete and reboot my phone still not remove.
I've had this problem for a few months, but it was mostly controllable. I was too lazy to fix it, but I have a bit of knowledge about it now.
I got this when I tried installing a hack mod for a dead game. As far as I can remember, the "bad apps" were netalpha, catstudio(these two can only be disabled), com.google.keyguard, and com.android.gesture.builder (there were more, but I can't remember them). Some of the apps that get downloaded are Lazada, Zalora, Battery saver, Apus, Heathstone, 2048, and Township. I also factory reset my phone a few times, and the apps either lessen or increase...
My phone is also Huawei, so I'll just try updating the rom.
Thanks for the info ^^

I had this problem and the only way to solve it was to reflash the Rom.
Also experiencing on a Mintt phone
I live in a developing country and had few options when I needed a new phone. I have a Mintt phone which I cannot seem to root. The internet here is terrible so I don't have many apps but have had recurring self installing malware that renders the phone unusable until factory reset at which point the whole process starts again.
It seems to be attached to the inbuilt browser which I can't remove. It starts with a circle on the screen which can't be removed and if touched opens a warning message that WhatsApp has a virus. I don't have WhatsApp. Then chrome tries to install. I don't use chrome. Then the messages become so frequent nothing can be done but factory reset. Any help would be much appreciated!

Stock ROM full flash help?
I was wondering if I could get a walkthrough on how to find and do a full flash Stock ROM for my android tablet, similar to what you describe here.
I have had this tablet for years, but years ago, I think I got some malware, and anything I've tried over the years seems to be unable to get rid of it. I've followed many times the clearing cache from pwr/volumn up boot menu, and factory resets from same menu, yet everytime it starts up for the first time, it loads and updates several apps, then when it fully starts to home page, there is always a "lucky try" app.
I can't remove this app, and there are extra settings apps too, and the official google apps don't update properly. All in all it's very fishy, and I would like to try what you are talking about, with a full flash reset, but I have no idea how. I'm at the point where if I totally brick the thing, I'm ok with that. It is pretty much useless and has been for years anyway.
The only way to solve this problem is to flash a stock or a custom Rom.
