[Q] Switching from an E4GT - HTC Rezound

I'm leaving Sprint for Verizon, and the Rezound looks like the best phone they have. Using custom roms is a must for me. I'm not a fan of sense either, so it'd be awesome to change from that ASAP.
I've looked around a bit, and it looks like there are no AOSP roms for the Rezound yet. And the sense-less ICS roms seem to be too buggy to use daily. It also doesn't sound like the Rezound will ever see MIUI. Is there any reason why people would say that?
So what is the situation with using custom roms on this phone right now? Is it something that will happen eventually, or is it something that probably won't happen before the next big thing comes along and everyone ditches this phone?
I really, really like the specs of this phone and I know that HTC makes extremely good devices, but if the rom situation is bad then I can't use it.

I wouldn't say the Senseless ROMs are buggy, and if nothing else, use the desense tool on any Sense ROM, I'm dying for AOSP but I'm waiting like everyone else.

I recently just use sense for the first time and I like it a lot. Especially with ice cream sandwich

Do you think when the rezound gets an aosp rom we'd eventually get a port of miui?

Sense 3.0 is nice and all, but I can't wait for CM...

Loving my new phone! It's wicked fast and it's just plain badass. I've removed what ever bloatware I could, but in all honesty I wish I could remove Sense and go to CM on this phone I can only imagine how fast it's going to be! Sadly it'll probably be a long time before things like 3D get ported into CM (WiMax, anyone?) but I think the wait till definitely be worth it.
This phone is fast, but you have to admit, there is A LOT of crap on it, and most of it is HTC related. Don't get me wrong, it all works, but I'm a simpleton in that sense (no pun intended).
I think it it funny that people only care about how fast there phone moves. The EVO 3d moves fast enough to do anything you want to do without a hiccup and has the wonderful overlay of Sense.
What else does CM7 give you? I ran it on my EVO and it is not like it will make your EVO 3d a step up from what it is now. It just brings you back to basics. If it is basics that you want, why not just buy a Nexus 4G. I am sure CM7 runs pretty fast on that.
Maybe when we have CM8 with ice cream it might be worth moving to as it hopefully boosts some new features for us and the CM team will probably have it ported before HTC gives us an update for it.
Right now I say Sense 3.0 ftw!
Right on. I'm a hugggggggeeee cm7 fan for my evo 4g but this 3d has wings.... EVEN with sense going.
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA Premium App
Yea if the phone goes any faster it'll run things when you think of pressing it lol.
But Running CM7 will let you just load billions of things on it at once with the extra space

As is common practice.. the more power the device has, the more the devs use.
Sense 3.0 is a HORRIBLE display of overindulgence. I know people will like it, and that is all well and good. Not everyone needs all that extra RAM and storage the phone came with (to cover for Sense). But, I can't wait to get rid of Sense. I don't use it, except for the integration that I can't disable.
I can't wait until we get optimized builds of the stock rom. Maybe a little themeing too.

Amen. This. It is pretty, but most of that 'pretty' is, well, pretty functionless...and that out of 1024mb of RAM I have ~225mb free with nearly nothing going on? Sad.
Sure, sense is sleek...kinda...but it's a bloated sloppy hog of a shell/ui/launcher. LP/ADW rock ass on this phone, I just wish I could ditch all of the pointless cruft Sense drags along....not to mention some of the more advanced tweaking the custom AOSP roms bring to the table, esp regarding performance and battery life.
I am pretty much all about change. Its fun to see different looks on the phone, that's why CM7 was soo refreshing for my OG EVO. Then I bought the Nexus S and loved the pure google experience, and now I am appreciating the Sense 3.0.
There is definitely quite a bit going on with this sense 3.0...but it is hard to imagine it ever having issues as far as performance is concerned. So I am in no rush whatsoever for CM to make it's way on the EVO3D.
Cm is awesome. But just wait my friends. Once we get root, we will get this baby optimized, clean out the crap on here and then she will really take off. Also, getting the sensation and kingdom ports on here will be cool.
I know virus is already looking at stripping out the sense to give it the turbo boost most are looking for...

yeah, i thought i liked SENSE, but I miss my DECK and CM bad. I even resorted to running spb shell for now, I couldn't take all the senseless crap
I love CM. The latest updates as fast as possible plus custom tweaks that make the phone that much more easy and usable. Sense isn't too bad just yet as it's still new again to me, but things like the unlock/answer screen when a call comes in and the god awful notification bar and curtain make me hate it. Can't wait for CM.

I'm indifferent about the notification bar/curtain... It's not bad.... I like the CM styling better, but only slightly.
I switched to this bad boy from a Hero running AOSP Froyo, and I realized how much I missed sense. On the hero it was terrible, when it couldn't run anything, but with this phone I love it. So intuitive, and the music player and everything is great, I sure don't see myself dumping sense 3.0
Don't understand why you would buy an HTC phone to throw out Sense and go with generic CM ?
If I was gonna run CM 7.1, for sire would not buy an HTC phone, these phones are so thick and bulky and poor battery life. Even with custom kernels and different roms its better, but I would get a Galaxy S 2 a milion years over the EVO-3D for CM 7.1
I buy the EVO for Sense #1, and wait for the best Sense based Rom made by Myn. It is way better than CM.

Those features come at a price, one that I'd rather not pay. I'm glad you enjoy em, I just can't wait to shed em.
I think tried CM7 and I enjoyed it but I can't wait for MIUI to make it or even MYN and Evoking to put their touch to it. That is definitely worth the wait.

Just because the rosie is pretty much the same doesn't make the apps and all that goes with it the same. Willing to bet people will flash and enjoy. Like all other roms. Breeds or custom roms are much better as you already know.

Am I the only one who doesn't see what the big hoopla is about CM? Not trying to troll or anything.

Will the Rezound offer more ROMs than the Nexus?

Basically, I'm thinking about trading in my Nexus for an HTC Rezound. Don't get me wrong: I freaking love this phone, and have been dying to get it for months. There's nothing wrong with it.
My issue is that I'm a flash-o-holic. Now that the Rezound has an unlocked boot loader, I'm worried that it will have more ROM options.
With the Rezound, I'll eventually be able to run ISC. it can run sense roms. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like with the Rezound I'd be able to flash everything I could with my Nexus PLUS all of the 2.3 and Sense roms, right? and that means more options.
So, I need some clarification:
Can the Nexus run anything other than 4.0 based roms? (like 2.3 based ones)
Can the Nexus potentially run a Sense rom?
With the bigger development community of the Nexus, am I better of staying where I am?
I had an Incredible before, and was in love with it. GREAT dev community and tons of ROMs and development even to this day. I liked CM7 and MIUI, but I put a huge value on always being able to come back to Sense. One of my concerns with the Rezound is that the development and the development community will die after a couple months and the next bigger, brighter HTC phone comes out.

If you like sense, then I would highly recommend the Rezound. If you don't, then the Nexus is the way to go. That is what made the decision for me.

I don't see why you would want to go back to GB after being on ICS. I really doubt the Nexus will be able to run a sensed based ROM. It is very difficult to port sense over to other phones from what I have heard. Development will definately heat up for this phone! You just have to give it some time since we just got the unlock today. Look at the Tbolt it's still being developed for... Hell even the OG Droid still has some development. Idk how long you plan to keep your device for, usually 1 year to 1 1/2 year is the max for me. I'm sure there development for that amount of time if not longer.
The Rezound just isn't "another HTC phone" so you don't have to worry about it fading away. I'm sure there will be enough ROMs for the Rezound to satisfy any crack flasher. So in the end it's your choice, you just need to weigh all the options against each other.
We have some of the best devs on this phone including themers. I have no doubt you'll have plenty of roms and themes to flash. I personally plan to port all five or six of my themes over once I have scott's base. Side note : My themes are usually not posted on xda. For those that know me, I haven't posted here for some time.
I'm pretty sure there's a sticky here that list all the devs that have committed to working on the Rezound.
Sent from my newly unlocked Rezound.. Thank you HTC.
i guess I just got used to switching up roms every couple weeks or so with my incredible. I'd run a sense rom for a couple weeks, get bored with it, switch to cm7 for a couple weeks, switch to miui, etc.
I don't like the idea of finding one rom, and sticking with it forever, even if all others are "inferior." I like to mix it up.

Sense or AOSP [Poll]

This thread is a continuation of the thread started by: eggydrums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433526
eggydrums said:
Hello there!! I wanted to make this poll to see what the fellow users here in the Amaze forums prefer, Sense or AOSP.
On one hand, we have the original, pure, vanilla android interface. Simple, nothing so complicated and still, yet to come the Amaze, "the pure Google experience". There is no rom that is FULLY stock, with the exception of BeastMOD and SenseLess which are almost de-sensed completely.
And on the other, we have the long running Sense, courtesy of HTC. With lots of eye candy, lots of widgets, and an obsession with weather, Sense is very diverse and customizable. One of the latest versions of it, 3.0, is included with the Amaze, and most of the custom roms for it are Sense.
Many people, love sense, others hate it and prefer AOSP over it. So, its simple, choose your preferred interface, and leave a comment of you want xD

You know what I find is funny?
For devices like G1, MyTouch even Vibrant a bunch of people really want Sense.
Now that you have a device that has Sense out of the box nobody seems to want it.
Here's what I have to say about it: If you don't want it, don't buy it. I happen to be a large fan of the Sense UI. I don't care about how "bloated" it feels or anything like that.
I used to make themes for the devices that didn't have Sense to at least give it a "Sense" look and feel. People went out of their way to edit the Sense UI apps just to make them available for devices that don't come with it.
So now that we seem to have the perfect device to run Sense... you all want to get rid of it?
I don't get it. If you don't like Sense then why by a phone with it??? Someone please explain that to me.

Very valid point,
here's my view
I happen to like HTC since i loved my nexus one, and I bought this phone mainly for it's camera, nothing else is like it on T-mobile right now. I neither hate fan nor like it there are parts of it I like and parts I don't. I bought the SGSII first and hated it, I hated the screen resolution and how big it was...this phone just felt good...Sometimes even if you don't like sense, there are no other options, every individual wants something different and not all cellphones deliver everything in one package. I was initially waiting for the galaxy nexus and just got tired of waiting. I hated the pentile screen when I looked at it in the store (even If I ordered over seas) NO dedicated camera button, this is what I really wanted. I also wanted a 720p screen like the rezound, If I could I would get the rezound, but it doesn't have dedicated camera buttons and I want that. it has the same exact camera as the amaze. a 720p screen on a 4.3 inch screen which gives better dpi than the retina display...But I have no choice, I'm not going to pay 180 monthly just to get that phone...right now I pay 60 bucks on a shared plan and get unlimited everything with 5 gigs of unthrotled data. I also like this about android and like things about the iphone, I can't have it all in one package.
I use locker widget, and adw launcher and I'm happy with it...I do not hate the sense launcher, or the lockscreen, I just prefer my own customization. I love what they've done with their camera app. I like their calendar application. I like their parts of their contact and dialer app and hate parts of it.
I talk too much!!!

Peoples always wanted what they don't/can't have. Simple
I myself love to have a Sense Rom mainly due to its lock screen and weather widget and a few more stuff but also running ADW so I can switching back and forth every other week or so
Personally I think Sense based Rom give me more options. If tired of looking at Sense, switch to other launcher and apps or vice versa whereas ASOP based wouldn't let me have Sense stuff if I so desired
Just because a phone comes with Sense doesn't mean it's the main attraction of the device. Did people buy the Samsung Galaxy S2 for TouchWiz? I sure hope not. There are other features of a product that convince people to purchase it. Specs, look and feel, cost-efficiency, and availability all factor in and affect this. The Amaze happens to feel like a really premium product with high end specs to boast. It also happens to come with Sense.
I don't hate Sense, but I just find it to be too non-customizable and would always use a third party launcher like ADW Launcher or Go Launcher anyway, so Sense means little to me.

I sense garbage.
This is my second htc sense phone.
You like sense until you try something else for a while.. Then you can't stand it.
We all have our own opinions.. It's fine, but for me it's a nice eye candy developed system that I can not stand and can't wait for cm7, 9 or something else.
Also a reason why I have adw launcher.
Talking of CM I kinda missed it alot.
Many great features: crt built-in, toggle widgets on top of pull-down notification panel, brightness adjust by sliding the status bar ect ... And separate lock screen wallpaper
Too many customization Sense lack
I switched back to sense for the beats audio

No problem.
I like sense, I like AOSP, just depends on how I feel that day. With all the themes, Roms, tweaks and different launchers, we can pretty much do what we prefer on any given day. I still have a cliq lol running 2.3.4 gingerbread aosp, a HD2 running Sergios core cell rom, and my "NEW" Amaze stock, patiently waiting for new developement.
Sense has great eye-candy and great integrated apps which is my kind of thing. like the built in task manager, built in social media, built in music player. its all better than stock IMO. Stock gets boring to me for some reason
I personally have no problem with sense, it's just the size, I like using my system partition for apps, but I do like the facebook and tight music control integration!

Sense 4.0 or AOKP/Cyanogenmod 9

Hey everyone, I wanted to know your guys' opinion on which interface you like more? Do you prefer Sense or AOKP/Cyanogenmod 9 and why?
oh and also, which one has better battery life?
The day cm9 works fine on this phone is the last day I ever use sense in my whole life.
typically for me (especially now that sense is actually decent) i stay with sense until a really nice stock rom comes out then go to that and after a few months go back to sense and so on and so ........................ect.
I have no problem with Sense, but always end up running CM. There are just too many tweaks I want to make to my phone that Sense ROM's never seem to bake in. With Sense ROM's I'm usually going "crap I wish I could do that!" With CM it's "Sweet! I can do that!"
I think i like sense more. It is more refined. I like the look of aosp ics though. I'm really hoping a nice blue sense theme is released sometime.
The hardware is good enough that i do not believe one will perform better than the other like in the past.
The fact that the notification light doesn't time out on stock draws me to it though. It is my biggest complaint about sense.
When CM9/AOKP becomes more bug free, I'll try it out. I used CM7 a ton on my OG and AOKP quite a bit on my 3D.
Until then, I'm not even rooting my phone. I see no reason to as of yet.

Newer Sense....

I've been a long time fan of Sense ROMs, but my favorite over time has been Newtoroot's Sense 4.1 ROM. I'd be interested in something more modern than 4.0 if someone has an interest in cooking such a creature up. Perhaps I'm not the only one? Just throwing that out there.
Problem is most newer sense Roms are jellybean and use ion kernels at that. Many devs have worked ion kernels..but missing drivers for our phones have made progress slow.
I am hopeful we see something ..before this phone slips into the ether...

Ah.... Wasn't aware that's what the hold up was. All that said, I've been immensely pleased with the progress AOSP ROMs have made since this device came out. I'd like to say the same for kernel development as well. I'd definitely call this the golden era for AOSP and kernels on this device and I'd like to thank the folks who've made all that possible. Its made my life a bit better and more interesting.
