Google Watch and Root - HTC Rezound

I finally decided to try out Watching a movie via the market, excuse me, via play ;-) and I noticed that it wasn't working so I decideed to look it up and saw what I had assumed was true: I can't watch it because I'm rooted. Just now I decided to try it on my rooted Asus Transformer and to my surprise it worked perfectly!
I'm running a GB rom on my TF whereas I'm running an ICS rom on my Rezound, could it be some new protection in ICS?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

there are temporary root hiders I think.

I suggest Temp Root Remover... by Zachsandroidapps

Oddly enough, I can still watch movies on my rooted rezound running ICS, AND on my rooted tf101 running honeycomb. However on my other rooted tf101 running Team EOS ICS, not allowed....

Heres the market link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zachspong.temprootremover&hl=en

I also am blocked but I'm on a GB rom.

I saw the hiders, just curious why it worked on one rooted device and not another.

Could be that the other devices don't look rooted to the app for some reason.
I've used OTA Rootkeeper to use it and Amazon Prime Video with success.

Me too. It means there I obviously one way around it.. at least for now. I just have to figure out what it is...

why would they care if you/we are rooted?

People who distribute the media do, because they think that if you are rooted, you can break the stream protection and "steal" the content.

[Q] Netflix App

hi all I was just curious if anyone knows if the new Netflix app is working on the Thunderbolt or not. I assume it would but the thunderbolt is not listed on the netflix web site as a supported phone for this app, even though 3 other HTC phones are listed and are older tech than the Thunderbolt. I tried to install it but they want me to start an account with them first and I'm not opening a Netflix account unless I know for sure this will work on My thunderbolt. I'd appreciate any information anyone has on this,.. thanks!!
there are hacked netflix APKs out there that work on the thunderbolt
I thought it was only working for cm7?

You are correct.
I appreciate that,.. now next,,, 4 things,..
1. what's the best way to Root the HTC Thunderbolt
2. how do I install a ROM, never done so before
3. can someone link me the cyanogen mod 7 forum where I can download the files for it
4. Can someone link me where to get the APK that works with Cyanogen mod7 for Netflix?
oh and 5th... thanks!
what about netflix for virusrom? ......i'd post it there, but I'm not allowed to post in development pages being a new user and all...

The Netflix app will not work with any ROMs based off the official Thunderbolt RUUs as of now.
I was so mad when my boyfriend's Incredible would stream Netflix, and my newer Thunderbolt WON'T. He doesn't even use his phone. He fixed it so he can use wireless tethering..and uses his ipod touch! That's what made me so pissed off about it. I actually want to be able to watch Netflix on mine! Maybe one day soon =(
yeah This fairly well annoys me as well.. I purposefully bought the highest end phone I could find with the latest technology and it can't run the netflix app while the older models can,.. sounds kinda backasswards to me... really bugs me
Would love to have this working. Til then I guess I'll just have to use it on my DX

If you are rooted you can trick the app into thinking you are using one of the phones that are listed. I think i read about the trick on android central if i find the link i will post it.

Don't think so, so far its only working if your running CM7 I believe.
Has anyone on here used CM7? I loaded it one day and nothing really worked on it. I couldn't get on the internet or anything... sounds like to a waste to run CM7 just to use netflix
Netflix does work on cm7 and will be supported on the thunderbolt soon. The reason why it wasn't initially is because the phone is new and Netflix didn't have time to test it on our devices. Just give it some time and you all will be rewarded.

My understanding is that they are waiting til after the Revolution comes out to activate it for LTE phones. Its one of the selling points of the Revolution so it will probably be exclusive to that for a month or so. Just speculating though.

Unlocked / Rooted - Want Google Movies to Download - How to Unroot?

Hello,
I have an unlocked and rooted TF201. I don't really need to be rooted - I liked having control over my device, but can live without it.
Questions:
1) Is there a way to "trick" Google Movies app to thinking I'm not rooted?
(I've tried unrooting with ViperMod, didn't work. I've also tried using the recompiled movies app someone else posted -- FC'd each time I tried to run it)
2) Is there a way to revert back to an unrooted ROM?
(Several similar posts warn that trying to do so will result in a hard brick)
Thank you!
Yes and no. You can download ota root keeper and select temp uninstall root which will temporarily unroot your device but Google movies will still not work. You can use an app called mspot to rent movies. I believe they're in HD too! Hope this helps!
Just to be clear being rooted does NOT stop one from using Google movies. Only unlocked bootloader.

Thanks for the clarification, Lock-N-Load.
So, as far as you know, once someone unlocks their device (Asus Transformer Prime), no more downloaded Google Movies. Correct?
google should get a move on and release their services in europe! GOGO NOW!

I disagree, take your business somewhere else. The best way to fix the problem is to give your money to some competitor like mSpot, Amazon or the like.

Yes, I have this fixed.
It will be included in Hairybean 1.5 when it is released soon.
Awesome! I'm currently running CM10. Am assuming upgrade to Hairybean 1.5 will be painless.
If so, and you've solved the movie issue, then you can definitely put me down for a donation when it's out.

google movies on unlocked prime

Is it possible to rent google movies or mspot movies on unlocked prime?
No. When you unlock your Prime it disables your DRM license (a program put in place to prevent theft of movies rented/bought through the Google Play Store).
(Not sure about mspot, not sure what it is)
Do u think something like a hacked apk or a relock hack will be or can be developed
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA
As far as I know the DRM license can't be reforged :/
(Plus it's virtually impossible to relock, because it changes the structure of your system)
Was it a mistake to unlock my prime .Thanks
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA
well, have you done anything to your tablet that required the unlocking (flashing kernals, roms, etc)?
If yes, then it wasn't a mistake and you didn't consider the repercussions, like google movies no longer working
If no, then you just unlocked it because it was available and yes, it was a serious mistake and there is nothing you can do.
Yes you can rent movies

Yes it is possible, get the ota rootkeeper app by supercurio. Its free n the Play Store. With the app you can follow directions to unroot watch a movie and the reroot when needed.
I believe what the play movie app checks for is root access.

Well if it asks for superuser permissions that's not necessarily it checking for root but more or less could be checking your file structure and integrity to see if you have the DRM...still, interesting...

Yes I did it again today. First time it gives me a message saying your device seems to be rooted... and it denies me access. I then go to ota root keeper temp unroot. Go back to play movies and it grants me access.

Again, I'm not sure this is still true but the google movies app definitely used to explicitly check for su. It was visible in smali. It would check $PATH then also check a couple of hard coded paths. I'm guessing it does more than this now but this used to be the case.

I don't know about code and those details, all I know is that I can rent movies even though I'm unlocked rooted and on AOKP build 29 4.04 by Jermaine. I was just explaining how I did it in case it would help someone.

[Q] To Root or not to Root? that is the question?

Ok can you lot give me a few good reasons to root my transformer prime and install a new ROM. I've been looking at some of the ROMs and they all look kinda.... **** lol no offence. they just look to much like the prime unrooted but with a few changed to colour really :/
i rooted my SGS2 and installed the muiu ROM i think its called and thats great i llove it. it looks different and that's what i want
someone prove me wrong please
Do you want full control over your device? The ability to get rid of the asus crapware and run your own things? I too rooted my SGS2 after about a week of owning it and haven't regretted it.
With root you can install adblockers, backup tools (proper ones), overclocking
If you're technically minded and want to get the most out of your money then root, if you don't want to risk damaging your Aluminium piece of sexy then don't.

Rooting is definitely the way to go, doesnt affect your ability to get ota's and what not, if you want to unlock i say wait a lil bit longer to find out when or if ASUS is going to release nvflash to us, granted it definitely looks promising giving Gary Key's latest update.
That said if you want to unlock you can still get AOKP from jermaine just not from here, whether he is still supporting the rom is an entirely different question
hmmmmm ok i dont know i suppose i could just get root access and keep it as stock then. im going to have to find out how to root this now sigh lol research.. i'll look it in about 3 hours lol
I would highly suggest you root it since if any things happen you can just factory default the tablet and it'll be unrooted
So there's really nothing to loss rooting it
Just make sure after you root your device you backup the root so you don't loss it after you update the prime
lol you lost me after backing up my root. =/
i just tried to use sparkyroot but it doesnt seem to be working. im going to look at other methods.
dont think i can root it can i im currently on 9.4.2.21
