Unlocked / Rooted - Want Google Movies to Download - How to Unroot? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hello,
I have an unlocked and rooted TF201. I don't really need to be rooted - I liked having control over my device, but can live without it.
Questions:
1) Is there a way to "trick" Google Movies app to thinking I'm not rooted?
(I've tried unrooting with ViperMod, didn't work. I've also tried using the recompiled movies app someone else posted -- FC'd each time I tried to run it)
2) Is there a way to revert back to an unrooted ROM?
(Several similar posts warn that trying to do so will result in a hard brick)
Thank you!

Yes and no. You can download ota root keeper and select temp uninstall root which will temporarily unroot your device but Google movies will still not work. You can use an app called mspot to rent movies. I believe they're in HD too! Hope this helps!

Just to be clear being rooted does NOT stop one from using Google movies. Only unlocked bootloader.

Thanks for the clarification, Lock-N-Load.
So, as far as you know, once someone unlocks their device (Asus Transformer Prime), no more downloaded Google Movies. Correct?

google should get a move on and release their services in europe! GOGO NOW!

Yes..
Root no problem (I've rented numerous times with root)
Unlocked bootloader... your done bye bye movie rental

Sadly, this isn't true if you've unlocked your Asus TF201. Once unlocked, no more Google Movies for you. Period.

You're right, I didn't read it thoroughly enough.
So, if I understand correctly, rooting will still allow me to use Google Movies, but unlocking will not?

Correct. Unlocked = no google movies.

I disagree, take your business somewhere else. The best way to fix the problem is to give your money to some competitor like mSpot, Amazon or the like.

Yes, I have this fixed.
It will be included in Hairybean 1.5 when it is released soon.

Awesome! I'm currently running CM10. Am assuming upgrade to Hairybean 1.5 will be painless.
If so, and you've solved the movie issue, then you can definitely put me down for a donation when it's out.
Thanks in advance for the great work!

Green hornet update?

Hey everyone.
Is there any way to watch green hornet without doing the updates? I heard the ota breaks a few things so I would rather avoid it...maybe if we had the updated player apk?

I too want to know. I just watched like 2 mins then next thing I know I go back and it says update available. Im scared to update too lol.
Same here, does anyone know the answer to this?
I heard if you update, there's no way you will be able to root.
There is a thread in regards to this...

The updates fix more than they break.
There's no way you can root now, even without updates. The devs working on the root think that taking the update could remove some of the exploits they might be able to use to gain access. Then again, HTC has reiterated that they will decrypt/unlock, so it may be a moot point in the (near?) future.

Put the HTC "Watch" widget on one of your screens and launch the movie from there. When youre done watching it just remove the widget. It doesnt ask you to update when you use the widget.
like someone said earlier the updates do fix more than they break, and once root is official they will be able to root the rest of the ruu updates as well, so just update you're device

It got stuck on the "buffering" screen. I just updated it and it works now. Man, it looks a lot more clear than my own 3D videos made from the on board cameras.
HTC has been pretty good so far about making its customers happy. After all, the Evo got Gingerbread. Hopefully, tho, they won't take SOOOO LONG to give us root.

Google Watch and Root

I finally decided to try out Watching a movie via the market, excuse me, via play ;-) and I noticed that it wasn't working so I decideed to look it up and saw what I had assumed was true: I can't watch it because I'm rooted. Just now I decided to try it on my rooted Asus Transformer and to my surprise it worked perfectly!
I'm running a GB rom on my TF whereas I'm running an ICS rom on my Rezound, could it be some new protection in ICS?

Oddly enough, I can still watch movies on my rooted rezound running ICS, AND on my rooted tf101 running honeycomb. However on my other rooted tf101 running Team EOS ICS, not allowed....

I also am blocked but I'm on a GB rom.
I saw the hiders, just curious why it worked on one rooted device and not another.
Could be that the other devices don't look rooted to the app for some reason.
I've used OTA Rootkeeper to use it and Amazon Prime Video with success.

People who distribute the media do, because they think that if you are rooted, you can break the stream protection and "steal" the content.

google movies on unlocked prime

Is it possible to rent google movies or mspot movies on unlocked prime?
No. When you unlock your Prime it disables your DRM license (a program put in place to prevent theft of movies rented/bought through the Google Play Store).
(Not sure about mspot, not sure what it is)
Do u think something like a hacked apk or a relock hack will be or can be developed
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA
As far as I know the DRM license can't be reforged :/
(Plus it's virtually impossible to relock, because it changes the structure of your system)
Was it a mistake to unlock my prime .Thanks
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA
well, have you done anything to your tablet that required the unlocking (flashing kernals, roms, etc)?
If yes, then it wasn't a mistake and you didn't consider the repercussions, like google movies no longer working
If no, then you just unlocked it because it was available and yes, it was a serious mistake and there is nothing you can do.
Yes you can rent movies

Yes it is possible, get the ota rootkeeper app by supercurio. Its free n the Play Store. With the app you can follow directions to unroot watch a movie and the reroot when needed.
I believe what the play movie app checks for is root access.
It worked for me.

Well if it asks for superuser permissions that's not necessarily it checking for root but more or less could be checking your file structure and integrity to see if you have the DRM...still, interesting...

Yes I did it again today. First time it gives me a message saying your device seems to be rooted... and it denies me access. I then go to ota root keeper temp unroot. Go back to play movies and it grants me access.

Again, I'm not sure this is still true but the google movies app definitely used to explicitly check for su. It was visible in smali. It would check $PATH then also check a couple of hard coded paths. I'm guessing it does more than this now but this used to be the case.

I don't know about code and those details, all I know is that I can rent movies even though I'm unlocked rooted and on AOKP build 29 4.04 by Jermaine. I was just explaining how I did it in case it would help someone.

I get the same thing on mine. Haven't figured out why this happens to some of us, and not others. Could it have to do with being boot loader unlocked? I don't really see how, but it's very annoying.

Maybe try turning of "Force GPU rendering?"
Also have you tried completely uninstalling the apk through TB? I hear it's suppose to delete everything and not leave a trace of the app. Then reinstall. Maybe also make sure your Flash is up to date.

Mmm, this simply shows you what kind of exploits you can use to gain root access on your device. Tried on my phone, gingerbreak is the vulnerability, on prime, the same thing. Maybe we can gain root with gingerbreak even if we are on ICS?

No. Gingerbreak only worked on Gingerbread below 2.3.4 I think. There was an exploit in Android itself that allowed anyone to get root and it was patched.

ok, but my Prime is *still* vulnerable for this app, so, the app shows a false positive, or the exploit is still there.
