1.4.2 just auto updated, no more root. - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

So my NT started updating as I left for lunch. I expected the worst.
When I returned from lunch, it didn't appear to have done anything, OTHER THAN UNROOT THE TABLET!!!
So anybody have this problem?
Sent from my BNTV250 using xda premium

Yes, this is common in general with Android updates (and ios jailbreaks too). There is a method in the dev forums to root any version. You should be able to do that without wiping anything out.

I just fixed it. Use the boot sd into clockwork and rerooted. All fixed. Now to just block ota's...
Fun little surprise

You might consider just allowing updates and rerooting via SD each time to get the latest fixes from B&N. Alternatively, you can create a CM7 SD card and use whichever firmware (CM7 or official B&N) whenever you want.

Hi
Where I can find the CM7 SD Card info?
Thanks

A little bit of searching would have brought you to this:

hi guys. Experiencing same problem. What if i do not have recovery mode? doesnt still have it since it read my sdcard. Is there any way to install a recovery without sdcard? Thank you
You should be able to install a recovery through Rom Manager. I don't know if it would be dependant on SD card though, because it does need to download the recovery before it is flashed*

Read before you suggest anything.
Never use ROM manage to flash recovery as there are lot of reports of bricking the device, because of incorrectly flashed recoveries.
Try RecoveryFlasher from XDA developers or play store.

Mr. Junior Einstein, mind your language. On XDA you should treat others respectfully. This time I am not taking any step but next time I will report you to moderators.
I too was having this problem. I fixed the sdcard not reading problem by carefully plucking the metal tines of the reader up to increase the physical contact to inserted cards. The one that seemed to be the problem was the shortest of them all (I don't know if this is usually a problem due to its size, AWWW poor thing) Anywho it fixed the issue for me. be careful though as they aren't all that strong. And will snap if over extended.

[Q] Download Links for CM7 Alpha

Could someone handle me the download links for CM7 Alpha?
They were taken down to work out some issues.

You're better off waiting. They discovered a bug that causes the device to be bricked if you format the SD card. There's a fix for said brick, but it's still something that shouldn't be out in the wild.
I was looking for the same thing, so since I don't see anyone posting it I guess its a no on sharing cm7 lol

Isn't the bug only an issue if you are planning on using the SD Card version? I don't see what the problem would be with the internal version...oh well.

So far yes but truth is that eather with warnings or not people(noobs) could still do it lol so... to put an example i have read of 2 guys who wiped all the partitions off course they bricked their device (Judge for yourself).
So let devs work, test more and fix bugs, anyway there are some other bugs too and it other features aren't supported yet like Bluetooth, microphone, etc. I personally stay away of alphas but this time i tested support of apps and few other things but nothing major because i know there can be risks.

The bug is on both versions, and occurs if you try to format/erase the SD Card through the CM7 storage menu. So theoretically as long as you don't do that, you're fine, but I understand the hesitance to share a file that could potentially brick someone's device.
I was using the internal version, and experienced the SD format brick.
After recovering, I've continued to use CM7, primarily because when I tried to go back to the 1.4.1 + root image that's floating around here, I couldn't install market apps anymore. Tablet would reboot every single time I've tried. So I went back to CM7, just reminding myself to never, ever, ever erase the SDcard through the mod.
If you are not careful
I have been very cautious and lucky so far. I Rooted my Nook Tab back in late November by following ADB instructions and then applied many different tweaks including build.prop etc. All directions in these forums must be followed explicitly and you MUST have some working knowledge of ADB and a general understanding of how computers work. I have read every post in this forum and spent many hours researching how the devs were trying to circumvent the bootloader using various exploits. I did try to inject the Chainfire 3D wrapper as to be able to play Tegra Games and got caught in a boot loop and had to factory restore. Over all, I have been very careful. I have read in the forum that others have tried to apply CM7 update by trying to flash the cm7.ZIP file. It is very lucky for these people that in Clock Work Mod (CMW) this mode does not format the internal memory, it just writes to the System/app folder or to the folder that is specified inside the zip file. It is easy to get excited around buzz words like CM7 and CM9. But it is important to net let it go to your head and research thouroughly before hack-a-lackin your tablet. I am very grateful that the Devs rethought the CWM flasher and added the hash checksum so that someone with a bad connection didn't flash a partially downloaded file. I have CM7 on my Nook. Luckily, I didnt try to format an SD card with the Nook, I used an external card reader. The most important thing is, the Devs and the End Users are all going down unfamiliar territory. Research is the WORD. Happy Hacking!!!

Unzip it on your PC. If you are in CWM, you can go to the Advanced menu and "Mount USB Storage."
Even if I downloaded it on my book tablet first this still will work

I believe you need to unzip straight to the SD on your nook.
So when you extract it you do it directly to the cmw folder okay ill try that

Permission error when saving anything to sdcard

I first noticed that when I went to take pictures that a toast message would popup that said something along the lines of "Unable to save file to sdcard due to insufficient file privaleges". Originally I thought it was the Rom at fault which I will leave nameless beings that its occoring with every Rom I've flashed since as well. But only after switching between the 3 Roma I had saved on my sdcard prior to this incident, I tried to download a newer Rom to see if it was a bug that had been fixed but couldn't download anything to my sdcard. The only time I can download is through the market or via adb push so I know the internal storage isn't broken, but not recieving the correct permissions.
Has anyone else experienced this or have a fix because I don't want to bring the phone back "re-locked" and ask for a replacement. But I also do not want to buy a new phone or go through asurion. Thanks in advance and happy hollidays!

Backup everything from your storage. Go into recovery and format /sdcard. I had the same thing happen. Worked fine after the format and restoring the files.
I'm getting ready to head home so ill do it when I get there. Should I format it in cwmr recovery or through settings just so I make sure I do it the way you did it. Less room for error lol. And thanks a lot I'm really hoping that it helps! I miss having the camera mostly for taking pictures of my 14 month old Son Hambo!

Root Honeycomb Tablet S

I just got my tablet in the mail today! I'm looking forward to rooting it so I can throw TItanium/ROM Manager on their. I've rooted a few other android devices so this isn't my first rodeo. My first attempt to root was unsuccessful and after doing some digging I found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830079
Here I updated the 3.2.1 build 5 kernel in recovery. This allowed me to root this device. Thanks all for all of the great resources on XDA!!
The use of an SD card is necessary? I needed one for my phone root, but not for the Kindle Fire, so I'm unsure.

Twrp not recognizing items on extSdCard (download folder)

I recently installed 64gig extSdCard. I have downloaded items to it (roms etc) I have checked to see if they a "really there" which they are. Problem is twrp doesn't show them for me to flash when I go into recovery
Thoughts....?

I just recently went through an issue with my sd card, even buying a new one. Ultimately what fixed it was a simple 'fix permissions' in TWRP. Don't wait until you have to go to CWM for 4.4, though. CWM took the fix permissions option out of their arsenal. Since you've got TWRP, would you try it, please and report back? I am at odds as to if it was what ultimately worked although that's what the evidence says.

Sorry, worth a shot.
The only other thing I got is (if you haven't already) format the card in the phone, try a new card, verify the files are correct format.
Other than that, try back to stock, reroot start totally fresh. Clean card and all.
