Bricked my phone / Mainboard has died - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guy, i was running CM9 nightly from a couple days ago and have been on the cm9 other roms since around mid january.
My phone started bogging down really slow and then i restarted it which took forever and when it finally restarted there was some crap about your device cannot be encrypted and needs a factory reset. So i then went for another reboot to go to CWM to restore a nandroid and it got stuck at splash screen.
I pulled the battery after a while and now i have absolutely nothing and can't even get the screen to turn on. i tried charging all night to see if it had just died to no luck.
Any tips?

Try USb jig
and try charging battery from external charger or a new battery
What u said in op can't brick a phone

Just tried a jig and got nothing on both batteries. i have the phone connected to a charger with the original battery and it's heating up ALOT in the top section near the camera.
I work with someone that has an SII so i might try their battery tomorrow if not i'm at ends with what could possibly have happened

Tried a battery of my workmate and still nothing.
I think the main board may be gone because it's giving me nothing
EDIT: Alirght since no one can seem to help me is there any repairers in australia for the hardware side of things?

So you didn't use stock battery, that maybe busted your phone
Sent from my sgs2 running cm9

so your saying the Samsung 2000mah battery busted it? If so I'd be the first!

Oh it was samsung's battery. Well then chances battery causing your problem are much slimmer

HTC amaze battery issue not charging, led blinkig on and off

I have had this phone for a while everything was working fine as far as i know its not due to software issue, two days ago i turned on the phone it sudendly started to really heat up quickly i mean fast on the back next to the camera ,not sure why ,so the i noticed i was at 56 percent so i started to charge the battery left it charging after a while i picked up the phone and again it was even hotter after seeing that the battery was at 22 percent i, so i thought ok it was a software issue reflashed the phone as quickly as i could had a spare battery that was fully charged tried putting in that one same thing after the phone Booted up , it started to heat up again getting really hot and still not charging left the cable plugged in all night , in the morning i looked at the phone again the led on top was red turning on and of phone still hot, went to the tmobile store bought a Brand new battery Yes its original htc battery tried charging that one too failed led turns off and off (red color) PLEASE HELP I LOVE THIS PHONE
Did you try turning it off and charging it. The phone won't charge if it's too hot. Led will blink red then green then off

yes i have that did not help it still kept doing the same thing with older battery and newer battery
Don't take this the wrong way, but a little correct punctuation would make reading your super long question easier. Just really hard to follow

What recovery are you using? I've only had that problem when using older CWM recoveries on this phone. Try using 4EXT recovery it resolved all my issues and the developer supports his product.

+1 on checking your recovery. I had this problem when I was using TWRP (or whatever the acronym is) recovery. I switched over to 4EXT and haven't encountered that problem since. To update the recovery you may need to acquire a charged Amaze, HTC Evo 3d, or Sensation battery. :/
It may be the cwm your using

Sudden shutdown and Sudden battery drain

Hi all, I have a very serious problem here. Please help me out.
Whenever I am using my phone for more than around 10-15 mins continuously, even though battery is around 80-85%, I lose network all of a sudden, the phone flickers or flashes or blinks for a moment and shuts down all of a sudden. When I try to boot it again, it says battery low and many times, it wont boot only. When it is about to be botted only it gets turned off. the solution is to connect to charger when it shuts down. At first, on connecting, it shows zero battery, and immediately battery level will be restored to the previous level, after blinking again in the charging screen and then only I can turn it on. What is the issue?
I also tried wiping data/factory reset.. Wipe cache and dalvik wipes repeatedly. Tried many roms like resurrection 2.6, 3.01, XWLPM stock rom, Salman ROM, etc. The same issue happens in all the roms as well.
Somebody do reply!

well do one thing- try flashing another kernel too- anything will do - siyah maybe. 1% chance of it working..
and if it doesn't, what this means is that it is most probably a hardware issue- and you would need to get your phone checked in the service center.
Have you tried a different battery?
Sent from........Somewhere In Time
Maybe battery failure! try with a different battery if no change and everything was like before then I suggest you to send it to customer service as soon as possible.
Same thing for Stock
I experienced the same thing on Stock samsung unrooted rom 4.0.3
I suddenly found that my phone is not responding and is heated up too much, I quickly removed the battery and after letting it to cool off restarted it.
Was amazed to see battery came down to 20% from 80%, Post this incident it is working fine
Now I have tried multiple kernels and Roms and it still is working awesomely on everything I throw at it

Turns out its some battery problem. I swapped mine with a friend's battery. He is facing the same issues now and I am not facing any issue. In ebay and flipkart, it shows original battery costs just 559 Rs(around 10$). Is the original battery available for such a cheap price? Or is it not genuine?
It sounds suspiciously cheap.. mmmmm. You should try going for the legit 2000mAh from samsung longer battery life haha so much win

Well u could try ebay, but u gotta be careful, it could be a total hoax. I recommend u buy it in samsung or some official retailers

Hi yashwanthms,
Just to let you know, currently I'm facing exactly the same issue.
During or after using camera, gps or usage of data, the screen flickers and then after a few seconds it freezes and shuts down. Switching it on doesn't work, because it thinks the battery is dead while still having 50% left or something like that. It does however work when it is plugged into power.
Thanks for your reply of your battery replacement. I will try the same thing and see if it works out.
Still a question though: did you buy a new battery and what were your results afterwards?
Kind Regards,
Ahsimmis
same issue here
After reading above posts, I'm sure it is a battery issue. I use hotspot and GPS a lot which is why I've to charge a lot and charge while docked to car cigarette lighter too, no wonder the battery didn't last more than a year. Will buy a new battery tomorrow and post the result here.

Like others said, I think it's battery problem. Do not use cheap unreliable batteries, nor leave your phone charging after 100% charged for a long time. This would affect your battery performance. Experienced that using my back-up battery, from 25%, sudden shutdown. My original battery would alert me first "Battery is now low, please recharge now". The back-up won't.
This is to confirm that I've purchased a new battery from Samsung franchise store. It is doing fine.
Cost me Rs.800 which is like $18. The store didn't have any retail battery in stock but they provided me one from one of the phones on display. I'm not sure if I did the right thing by taking it but I needed one badly and none of the stores I went to had any in stock for retail (there are like 15 of them in a 2km radius)
This is happening to both mine and my wife's Galaxy S II's. Screen flickers, shuts down, comes back with zero battery, plug it in to charge for a few minutes, suddenly back to ~80%. I've also found the phone is hot when this happens, pulled the battery and its NOT the battery that is hot, the phone itself is (feels hottest right below the camera, just above the battery port).
I ordered a replacement battery for her and it cleared the issue for about 2 weeks but now its happening again. The replacement was a genuine Samsung OEM, same maH, same part number.
My phone is rooted with a custom ICS kernel, her's is factory ICS.
I've ordered a new battery for my phone too to try, but I'm not convinced its solely a battery issue.

I have the same problem, change the battery with new one but still it happens & I am afraid it may be hardware!
Phone is not root & running official rom 4.0.4
I have changed battery and now it works ok. But yesterday, the phone freezed and became very hot. I rebooted it and then the battery level decreased high. After that it works ok again.
same problem
hi there,
I am having the same problem as on the OP. Have already ordered a new battery, because my warranty expired on sep 15th and I was on holidays outside my city and without the invoice
do you have any feedback about changing the battery?

[Q] HTC Thunderbolt Bricked, Won't Charge Or Turn On

as you read in the topic title. My HTC thunderbolt is dead. nothing. no yellow / green light at all. This has happened before..but a simple battery pull for about 20 minutes and a restart got me going again. Now...it won't work. I'm not a noob where I flashed the wrong radio or something stupid like that. I had fully functioning Thunderbolt with LiquidSmooth ICS JMOD MR2. Before my phone decided to commit permanent suicide, it was rebooting to the boot screen every hour or so to the LiquidSmooth boot animation while I was using PowerAmp. Then I shut if off normally (just like last time..) and now it won't charge turn on, or do ANYTHING. It won't even go to the HTC logo where I can go to clockwork or the hBOOT menu. I'm running out of options. If anyone could give me advice. That would be great, as I cannot afford another one :___;
Thanks for your time = ]

Flashing the radio is the only thing u can flash and completely brick your phone with no fix if you flash wrong or the radio is for a different device then I think your just gonna have to move on to a different phone.

This is exactly what I didn't do. I was just stating that because I bet some users on here flash the wrong radio or unplug it during flashing and cry on here later for a solution. This is what I did not do.
With that said...is there any possible solution for my dilemma?

Not any solution or consolidation, but my first bolt did the exact same thing after flashing a rom that I won't name here. The issue was most likely mine, but it happened to me and at least one other user as well.
If yours spontaneously croaked, most likely not the same issue, but mine presented exactly what you described.

I had 4.0 LiquidSmooth ICS JMOD my custom ROM on my phone ever since the rom first came out.and it was perfectly...fine...
and this same problem happened when I had GB ThunderShed CM7..but my gf told me to pull the battery out and leave it out for 20 minutes..then it put it back in. It worked. She did this many times with her Droid 1. Since it was problematic with this issue. (first android phone OF COURSE its going to have problems) Now she's an iPhone user i'm constantly trying to convert back lol
anyway...as stated before..it's now done it again and this time it's totally dead. my phone was trying to tell me something I bet.
How old is your phone?
Nothing to do with radios or ROMs. A bricked phone will still receive a charge. You need to try a different battery ( preferrably 1 that is charged and for the Thunderbolt) once you get it booted into whatever ROM you're using, go to menu, settings, power and make sure that "fastboot" isn't checked. By default fast boot is checked by HTC and by most ROMs. What fastboot does is just put your phone into "hibernate" much like a PC does.
So when you turn your phone off, it appears that its off, but its really just sleeping. If the battery dies and fastboot is checked, the phone is hella confused about its current state. HTC did this by default for a better customer experience, but its kinda dumb and bad in the long run as your phone never gets a freaking break. Lol
Thats why I'm suggesting getting a good battery to boot up to a ROM or whatever, turn off fastboot, properly turn off the phone then charge your battery. It may take up to 10+ min before you to get an orange light that'll flash then eventually go solid. Let it go solid for about 20+ min to be on the safe side, then boot
Good luck man

Man I bought one off craigslist that did the exact same thing. Had it about a week. Started random reboots so I was restoring a backup. While trying that recovery randomly rebooted a couple times them finally restore finished. It bootlooped so I pulled the battery and that was the last time it did anything. PC won't see it, won't get a charge light. Put a fully charged battery from my other tbolt in it. Still nothing. It literally died in my hands. I guess a hardware failure was the cause. Also picked up the wireless charging battery cover to try my power mat to see if that would at least make the charging light come on ....nope

[Q] S2 completely dead but unlike other problems

Well I was taking a video and I stopped recording and the camera app froze and I couldn't get any response out of the buttons but the camera app still showed the camera and that was still working so the phone wasn't actually frozen. So to turn it off I held down the power and home button and the phone turned off. Ever since then my phone won't turn on. I've read so many forums and I've tried so much e.g soft reset, hard reset, download mode, upload mode, USB jig and nothing works. When I put the phone on charge the left side of the camera gets warm (not hot).

Any other ideas where I don't have to spend a lot of money. Also I haven't tried a new battery but I doubt that's the problem because the phone
froze before dying
you should try another fully charged battery first................usually when my phone freezes for some time and when i take off the battery and re insert............i usually lose 10-30% battery, sometimes more than 30%

[Q] Software or hardware?

So ive been working late and i dropped phone in toilet, yes it was clean. I took it out pulled battery and put it on rice over night. Booted up but no WIFI. "searching for wifi..." and "hwa settings has stopped" in the beginning start up. Thought going back to stock would help but that even made it worse. Now it just hangs with battery logo screen plugged in wall and or computer. Is there anything else that i could do?
UPDATE: Still Stuck on battery screen, cant get to anything but download screen works. Is there a wipe data/reset from Odin
