[Q] Couple questions on Maxx and Verizon - Motorola Droid RAZR

Firstly, I have an exchange server that I hook into for one of my email accounts. I am leery about using it because the phone plan says its an extra $10 to use exchange. Is this true, and if so is there a workaround for it similar to the wifi tether?
Also since I am a verzion noob, I have found that the in call quality is incredibly compressed and almost "robotic" sounding, if you'll forgive the pun. On the old WinMo devices, there was an edit that could be done to tell the device which type of audio compression to use (as well as your priority on the tower, and lots of other nifty stuff) this was on Sprint, so it was a CDMA carrier. IIRC it was a #code you entered to get to the phone menu.
I would be increasingly interested in the answers to these two questions...

The phone menu is *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer, try that.

No joy, I tried. Do you happen to know if that depends on any apk's I may have frozen? I only froze bloat apps though.

I'm not sure, but I only use that on AOKP (no bloat at all)

[Q] Accessing Voicemail on Atrix Issues

Hello All,
I used to have an iPhone 3G, where my voicemail was easily available via the dialer. I have not checked my voicemail since I've bought my Atrix 4G (which has been over a month). I'm not sure if rooting, and theming may have screwed up my settings or not, but I attempt to access my VM and it asks me for a mailbox #. WTF?!? I never EVER recall setting up one, as far as I know it was just there and tied to my phone. I was able to access my VM by calling my phone number from my cell, but now I attempt to do that and I get a busy signal.
A tad frustrated, so sorry for the crazy rant above. Has anyone else experienced the same/similar situation? And if so, is there a way to fix it? I don't want to result in calling Customer Service/Tech Support for ATT until I've attempted to troubleshoot things here, since they will probably ask me "have you done anything to your phone" and I'll have to be like, "Yes, I attempted and succeeded in making it better from your and Moto's BS filled phone."
Thanks all for your time!
Press and hold the #1 on the keypad for vm.
If it asks for a mailbox number, you will have to call AT&T.
This is typical for users going from visual voicemail to standard voicemail.
Some AT&T reps forget to reconfigure your vm.

Thanks much! I came across a similar post elsewhere that said the same thing and I had to give'm a ring. I'll be setting it up here shortly! Thanks again.

I thought anybody with a Google phone would know to use Google Voice.
When you cone from iPhone they cancel your VM. You have to get them to set it up again, then you can use it.

They don't forget to reconfigure it, they actually cancel it. They just forget to add it back for your plan.

[Q] False International Data Roaming Message??

I keep getting an International Data Roaming Alert on my phone stating I am in an international roaming area and will be charged for data usage. I live in rural Nevada but that by no means should be an International Roaming area. If I choose yes to accept the message I still get data but the message keeps popping up. I have had the Droid Incredible, and Droid X and have never had this message pop up with those phones. I have called Verizon and they have verified I am not getting charged roaming but said they can't disable the message.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop this stupid alert?
Please, and thank you!
Have the same thing. Really annoying. Verizon sent me a new phone but that didn't do the trick cuz its built into moto's crapware.

Not sure if this works yet but try ....settings...display... uncheck roaming banner
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Thanks for the reply but I didn't have roaming banner enabled.
Same problem for me - pretty much the ONLY thing I am unhappy with on my X2 at this point. In fact, it locks up my phone during the night disabling my alarm when the warning is left on my screen for too long. Maybe a script fix for this possibly?
Everyone with this issue should request the developers to work on fixing it... for example under the X2 Development page there is a form called "[DEV] Affinity ROM"... if we all ask him and other people working on roms to put this fix high on their list of priorities they might just listen.
Have you guys tried *228 and then option 2? I believe this resets roaming.

Why does my signal do this?

When I'm sitting at my desk, my phone (Droid X2) will have 4-5 bars with 3g showing. I place a call, 3g goes away(as expected) and I get 1 bar and I lose calls... Why would it fall back to a weaker signal to place a voice call? I understand that data can voice can't happen at the same time on a CDMA signal... But this drastic a difference for calls?
Hi, how do you hold it? After having started to grab it higher and leave the lower part with the antenna out of my palm, it cured it's signal issues.
Best regards,
V
V you have the x2 confused with an iphone this phone will keep almost the exact same signal if you wrap it completely in both hands. This is a software issue that usually only happened on stock and confuses the hell out of verizon reps. I would recommend a SBF to 2.3.4 and then going with cm7/cm9 for a ROM

I actually did this today, and before I even posted. I'm on the CM9 RC1 Alpha 5...Love it, BTW.
I haven't done any build.prop mods yet. I'm fairly worried I'll break something as this is a alpha build.

No my office is in my home.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda app-developers app
Try changing your mobile networks settings. See if a different setting of roaming changes the behavior. You might find you are roaming on data and picking up a nearby out of network 3g tower then when you go to voice it favors a more distant in-network tower. Also download the app OpenSignal and see what that tells you about local towers.
And switch from bars to text for your signal, a real number will tell you things a set of bars really can't

Return it and get another phone while you still can. If you read on here long enough you'll see the many problems that arise from this POS phone. If you are going to stay with it you will probably be forced into a custom ROM just to make it work right. Memory is one of the main culprits that keep this phone from performing well. Every other phone that has come out since then that has 1GB of memory or higher has either had an opportunity to get more updates or better performing custom ROMs.

MMS on stock app for Cricket (ICS)(tutorial--testing)

Ok..was playing around with apns on my phone today. I was able to receive but not send. I'm now able to receive and send on the stock app for messaging on ICS.
THIS IS FOR STOCK ROM BUT LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS ON CUSTOM ROMS OR JB. I'm currently using 4.0.4 while i did this on a stock ROM.
So here is what you need to
1. Dial ##program & then enter the spc(all zero)
2. Go to the apn control then select apn config edit.
3. Then select the apn called ALU TEST SIM INTERNET.
4.you don't need to change all the other settings just do this.
MMSC=http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
MMS PROXY = wap.mycricket.com
MMS PORT =8080
5. Press menu then save. Now restart phone.
You should now have working (send/receive) mms on the stock Android app for ICS.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU ON JB OR CUSTOM ROMS. THIS IS ON THE STOCK ROM.
Also found out editing the ALU CBS apn with the same above helps also.

It would be awesome if this can be figured out... since Verizon has locked out GSM, I can't use my Straight Talk service anymore (sad, considering that most other phones would come with US unlocked) and I really don't want to pay over 100 bucks a month for Verizon...

Didn't know you could use gsm on the RAZR? I'm using the xt912 version. So far i know this works on atleast 4 different RAZR phones I've tested. 2 of mine and 2 people from the cricket store where my friends work. Both mine are on stock roms, 1 from the store was on stock and the other was on an Eclipse rom. Looks promising but I'm not Gunna count my chickens until i know for sure this is a good workaround.

It doesn't but it gives me a cheaper option than Verizon for service if I can't wrangle in my minute usage and keep it under 450 anytime... lol. I was just pointing out that if I had (insert almost any other Verizon 4G LTE phone here), I would be able to keep my 45 dollar StraightTalk plan and use one of their microSIM cards... Getting MMS working on Cricket on the RAZR would give me a slightly cheaper option than Verizon but more expensive than my StraightTalk was.

I considered that but I am enjoying JellyBeans 14 w/Saber 21 far too much LOL
I may just sell the sch-i605 and pick up a retail boxed TMO version if I do anything. I also used the S4 for a couple of hours it I really cant get over the larger screen and real estate of the Note II ; so I wouldnt consider it an "upgrade". My Note II with an Antutu of 19K+ I really dont have any true use for the faster CPU of the S4 right now......

please correct me if i am wrong but i don't think this is even close to possible as wifi calling is not necessarily as software hack but this is something actually built into tmo mobile spectrum similar to like vzw's using data while on a phone call, i recall a verizon rep telling me this.

From what I have dug up and seen thus far its basically a SIP client with tmo ties back to the android framework. It has nothing to do with the tmo spectrum aside from which band your transmitting over as it is a glorified VoIP client from anything I can tell.

Not "in the spectrum". It connects to the carrier over the internet, the normal cellular signal isn't involved at all. It requires both a helper app and framework support for it to happen though, and that stuff would only be present in the T-Mo firmware.
Here's a brief primer on it: http://www.wificalling.net/whatiswificalling/

There is a lot of stuff in the framework that needs added as well, on top of the APKs and LIBs. I believe most of it is in framework2.jar.

You are def right. Was pouring through the tmo apk and then the decompiled framework2 and see its in IPCallTracker , IPPhoneProxy , IPUtils , WifiCallSwitchPreference and score of other places.....
This will not be a simple apk and lib drop .
