USB Hosting with other devices... - Eee Pad Transformer Accessories

From my experience of using the transformer and keyboard dock, it seems only drives can be plugged in.
Working:
Self powered drives (2.5")
Powered drives (3.5")
USB drives
Not working:
CAC Reader
External WiFi adapter

Not sure about the reader, but the the USB wifi adapter needs more than just USB host. It would probably work with the right drivers.

Any idea if a CAC reader could work? I understand about the WiFi adapter. Might be a bit difficult, but i'll see if i can find the drivers for linux and them to the Transformer and see if it works. Thing is, the WiFi adapter doesn't even power up(no green light).

[Q] Does the SGS2 have USB host capabilities?

Yes. It's called USB OTG (on the go).
Yep, see it demoed here. Unknown how wide the host support will be (will it include keyboard/mouse/gamepad etc).
Wow! That's really cool, thanks for the answer
Just curious... does Sensation also have this?

dunno if this has been asked before but i thought that this is the place to ask it.
since the phone has USB-otg could we use a mini usb to usb adapter or to we have to buy the samsung one?
The big question is if it is feasible somehow to read/write NFTS or at least EXT2-3-4 partitions! It would be great to be able to manipulate files on a 2.5" external HDD.
No, it can't read'write NFTS, but it works fine with large drives that are Fat32 formatted. Read my thread in the accessories forum for lots of information on USB OTG.
Where can we get the USB adapter for cheapest ?
There is even USB host support for your HD2. Trouble is usually you need an externally powered hub, as the phone can't supply enough power (or not for long) to power the USB device.
A microUSB plug to USB A jack is easy on ebay for like 2 bucks?
I got this one, works like a charm: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004TJC1IM
USB OTG has a floating (grounded) 5th pin on the microUSB connector to tell the host it's an OTG cable. Does anybody know the pin out of the microUSB plug?

USB otg attachments!

Hey i recently got a usb attachment so i couls plug in usb pen drives etc into the phone. I also got a mouse and keyboard (wireless) to work. My question is. Is there anything else i can plug in? Are there drivers for other devices? I have how usb speakers (hi powered) i would like to get running... I have a powered usb hub. But it doesnt seem to work... Any ideas?
I know someone got the wi remote working... So is anyone keen to write drivers for other devices?

Nah I don't think usb speakers is supported. Even the wireless mouse support is more like an experiment/prototype thing by samsung.
The usb otg attachment's purpose is just like you mentioned, for usb pens and powered hdds.

[Q]Wireless usb keyboard

If you use a usb wireless mouse/keyboard do you need an externally powered hub. The keyboard/mouse is battery powered, so wouldn't you just need a micro to full usb adapter? Any answers would be appreciated
Edit: would there be any other issues (driver, etc.)
You need a Y-cable and to provide power for USB devices on WebOS in USB host mode. This video pretty much shows it all:

Are you looking to use a keyboard that has a wifi or ir dongle? I just tried a mk320 after powering the dongle with a powered usb hub, y connection usb and some usb gender changers. Nope, don't work (doesn't work for my hdtv, which supports usb keyboards either).
It's sorta a moot question anyways since you need a plug for the hub, isn't it?
I got the hp bt keyboard and that works fine, and is small enough to lug around, and has support for cards on the screen as well as Just Type.

[Q] usb 3g for htc flyer?

Hi,
I have a wifi only htc flyer and would like to check if anyone has been able to get a usb 3g stick running on their htc flyer?
Thanks,
Kim
Not 100% positive, but the answer is most likely no. Some time ago, i bought an adapter to plug my flash drive in. After a bit of research, it seems the flyer doesn't give off enough power to the usb port, therefore can't power a device attached to it. There might be a way to do it, not sure though.
Hope this helps

USB Host is supported! You have to use an external powered USB hub though and then connect everything to it. I have pictures of how I found it works here:

So all we need is drivers and 3G support
I know that HC 3.1 supported USB hosts, but like i said, the flyer can't power the device by itself, you need an external power source, thats kind of an effort when you not at home. But good find

? My USB Hub is powered from my PSP charger! The Hub takes 5V and uses the same plug as the PSP.. I have an Idea! It's not Ideal but... Connect the USB Hub to the power pack with the PSP cable, Connect the Hub to the Flyer using a Mini USB cable and a USB Host cable! Et voila, Portable powered hub
I am also interested in this. As an experiment,I have ordered a cheap 3g router. One of the big questions is if it will support any of my usb modems.

The stock Asus usb adapter will do that and more.
http://www.amazon.com/Transformer-T...984429&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+tf300+usb+adapter
The link is provided only as an example. I didn't try to locate the best deal, etc.
Flash drives and 2.5inch drives work without external power.
3.5 inch drives require external power.
Wifi keyboards and mice work as well. Just plug the wifi dongle into the adapter and go.
My experience the drives can be formatted as fat32 or ntfs.
In my case : TF300 + self assembled external 2.5" 500 GB drive, in need to provide additional power to the drive so that the tablet will mount it properly.
I use one of those mini-USB to double USB cables with plugin one USB on the double USB side in my 5V phone charger and the other USB in the USB adapter on the tablet while the mini-USB is in my drive.

i was thinking about doing this too but bought a keyboard dock instead. it has a usb 2.0 port built in. i have tried an external harddrive and several usb storage sticks and all work great. The thing about the usb adapter is that the poor placement of the charging port makes is so that if anything is connected, the tablet cannot sit in a case with a built in stand. dealbreaker for me.
