Way too expensive. For the same money you can buy a Neo with a better camera. It's ugly too, the only thing I like about it is the floating touch.

Why Sony didn't upgrade the RAM, it's been a pain for the previous gen Xperias. They should have made it at least 700+MB or 1GB.
And is that a raised display?

smooth and nice

Probably you should never expect more than 512 MB Ram from mid-range phone.
The specs looks good to me being in the mid-range, except the front facing camera (cant find it any specs) and finally there is a microSD slot.

Actually really like the design.
Downfalls not enough RAM, duel core not quad core, screen is slightly too small now that im used to the arcs 4.2".
Not actually sure if quad matters that much to me at the moment, but as they are out (or coming) might as well get one.
If this is cheap enough i might get a sim free version.

i wonder how this chipset compares to the arc's snapdragon

I like the floating tocuh! good job Sony nice designed phone

who the heck even needs quad core? when have you ever seen any apps use dual core let alone quad? its a phone not a pc.

If they haven't upgraded the RAM, I won't upgrade my phone too.
I am only considering the Xperia P, but it doesn't have a better camera unfortunately. The price is quite high too, it's not much lower than the Xperia S price, but I don't want such a big screen.

can't say it's ugly... but like Xperia S better!

You are a spoiled owners of a flagship phone...as I am too)))) This is the mid-range smartphone and it is magnificent! 512 ram? Who need more??? Years ago I had Celeron with 512ram and windows 7 was running great! It is the question of optimizing apps and firmware... Design? Look at the Nokia... They are realy realy ugly, they are no phones at all - crap! HTC is good, realy good. but I am not a fan of it. I like Sony and this phone is a good job! I will never change my White LT18 on it, but he is the best for me in the mid range!

If this phone came with a 4.2" 720p display and an 8mp camera Id go out and get it on launch day. Love that raised display.
Better design than the xperia s IMO

Hey everybody !
Is anybody know what is Floating Touch ?
... I mean, do you know if it's special hardware or if it's just a software customization ?
Technically, for devs, can they move the Floating Touch on other phones like Xperia S ? Or it's hardware, a special screen glass ???
Thank you

Our lovely developer they can make happen to our Arc i hope so i like it so much ....

No secondary camera???? Y Sony does something like this always?? What is d problem in providing a secondary camera?

This new technology is called "floating touch," and it allows a user to hover their finger over the display to move what is akin to an invisible mouse cursor and then merely tap the screen once the desired link is highlighted

Hardware and software.
You can't have it on a regular screen.

It should be a fake.
Android 2.4?We will only have a unified version called Ice cream sandwich.
2.5GHZ dual core?which company has such CPU to provide?
64GB?Iphone?
cheers,

He could've at least made it appear to be more real...
It's such a blatant fake.
Despite the ridiculous specs and the fact tat its a concept, loving the design.

WHEN IT WILL be launched?
Please post this as a fan concept and NOT as a new SE phone (which it isn't). It also has the name of the artist on the upper left hand corner.
As neat as all that is, the thing would have to be a brick.
10x optical zoom? the SD4500 is the thinnest cam I know of with that kind of zoom and it's 0.88" thick. and add to that a 2000 mAh battery?
We might as well just say that it's a hex core processor with an Nvidia fermi. Used by NASA to launch future satellites and 512 gigs of memory.
This is surely a concept phone. I don't think mobile technology has evolved to that extent yet.
Nice Concept, but bad Photoshopped !
Cam Flash on the Cam :S
and 10X optical Zoom ? LOL
Yes i think the OP needs to put concept in the title, its a bit misleading, but i think mayb in a year or 2 this sort of tech will be implementable, expecially the 2.5GHz dualcore processor, android OS version will be i have no idea lol a weird name mayb
So fake. Look at that massively fake lens! LoL
The design is very Sony Ericsson though, props to whoever designed it.
I think SE should start rolling out new Cybershot phones..
Or atleast a Satio android phone.. I REALLY want to see a phone that has manual settings..
if that phone exist i think the battery must be the ones terminator used.
If this gets released, I don't care about how fat it is. It is for SURE my NEXT phone ! Let's hope they will produce it.
+1 "PlayGunsta "
me too......will buy this phone if with same spec.....(dont care of Android version since XDA rocks...) also processor will be dual core so ...would be my next phone..........
yeah pretty sure is a fake one!
SE won't release something like this they obsessed with making their phones thinner!
maybe when samsung realeases a quad core sony will do a dual core! but not now
i am changing to samsung soon!
Even Qualcomm Dev phones aren't as fast that yet.

Upgrading to Xperia S

Ok guys, sorry to post this here but there's no where else right now.
I am so excited about the Xperia S, it isn't funny!! The dual core processor and 1gb internal memory is huge and just what this phone needs!
Who else is excited about this phone, what could be the pros and cons against the Arc?
Let me know what you think,
CheerS D
Not really excited.
Look at the "old" SGS II or newer Galaxy Note. They should beat the Xperia S. And no, I'm not a Sammy fanboy.
Dualcore, 1GB RAM. Xperia S isn't new.
Cons:

Price is totally a pro and not a con.
Imo cons are:
No sd card slot
non removeable battery
not as sexy as the Arc (couldn't be possible )
Pros:
Everything else.

but he asked with the comparison to arc. So arc definitely wins in term of price.
Xperia S over arc:
- Higher resolution screen.
- Supposedly better camera + 1080p video.
- Dual-core processor.
- Big RAM.
- 32 GB internal memory.
- Design has that "wow" factor especially with that transparent glass in the middle and 3 LED lights in it.

Xperia arc over S:
- Lighter.
- Thinner.
- More affordable.
- MicroSD card slot.
Things that matter me the most are the processor and high screen resolution. Mind you, I watch 4-5 hours of HD (720p/1080p) video content on my phone every day and not having to reencode them would be very helpful, so your needs will differ.

I'd get the SGS II if it's not running TouchWiz. Currently I'm thinking of getting a Galaxy Nexus. Upgrading to Xperia S would yield me an equal-sized screen and Xperia ion's out of reach (since it's US only).
quite disappointed when heard that Xperia S has no microSD slot and changeable battery. i will hold my arc until another model moves me

upto 1.8GB for App Storage,
32GB Internal memory via eMM
people keep getting this wrong and before you ask how i know i used the phone at CES and its also plastered across the white paper available from the SE Dev World.
The Phone is great and i cant wait to get my own as soon as my rep drops its off.
Why can't they just improve the battery .... Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX has 3300 mAh battery without affecting the size of the device ... I really wish Xperia S had that battery
Xperia S
-Bravia Engine
-4.3" 720x 1280(342ppi) Reality Display

What stopping you from buying an Xperia S? No Micro SD card slot and a Replaceable Battery?
but for me I think that 32GB is Big enough for me, including the 1.8GB for the Apps to be installed, My Arc got 16GB and I have lots of HD Games and 720p Video's I still have 3GB free
and having a non replaceable battery is not all Cons
I rarely remove my Battery and Micro SD Card, the only time I removed the Battery and Micro SD Card when i upgraded it to 16GB and Inserted my SIM

Hi guys thanks for your replies, by the way, in a girl
I am mostly excited for the internal memory upgrade, better battery and dual core processors. In all honesty my arc is laggy at times, the battery only lasts a day, and I'm tired of no front facing camera. These were the things that excited me the most, the design is nice too. Don't get me wrong I do love my arc, it just seems to be slow at times, I have no idea how to use custom roms for it either

There'll be another method to do this.
Maybe a long press power button, maybe something else.
I'll probably wait for the performance of Arc when it runs official ICS. If it's good enough for me then I guess I'll have to skip xperia s and stick with arc for a little longer until SE releases quad core and renew my data contact.

Micro-SIM is much worse than no card slot for me. Now sony is copying iphone pathetic there is no excuse for having micro-sim and non replaceable battery in a relatively thick phone.
Infact given the thickness of this phone there should have been bigger battery as well.

Xperia GX (Hayabusa) and Xperia SX (Komachi) are official

Apparently, it is only stated that they are specifically designed for Japanese market. Not sure about whether it will be release internationally with different design (Xperia S for example). Well, if it is the same design as these pictures below, I would be disappointed. Looks much uglier than S and Ion (Though GX has the convex back like Arc and SX front looks somehow resemble to iPhone 4).

Not really minor, Qualcomm S3 of XPS is nothing compared to other dual-core, but Qualcomm S4 is the king of dual-core right now
The screen size is also larger with very marginal increase in size (128mm -> 131mm in height)
So there's no any news about the SD card slot?cause If it has like SD card slot that'd be epic..
haha what minor update??seriously then why does it score alot better than tegra 3? that's funny.
GX just made me wow, effin' love it
hope it sees international release sometime soon, I'm really looking an xperia device to replace my old X10
****inn ****!! The ugly's level is over 9000!!!!!!!!
they all look pretty ugly to be honest. I don't think the picture is real tho.
pictures are real, they are same as the one post on sony japan website
Hmmm...
Well Okay...
To me, the upgrade isn't that much comparing what you sacrifice in design. If those are the final devices (yea, I know, I say this a lot between the other threads) Sony seems to have ditched the design factor and the light bar.
I'm glad the GX has the Arc curve though, so the Arc people will be happy. It just doesn't do anything more than that design-wise in my opinion.
It's a bit of a bummer that they dropped the light bar, and are going down the generic form path :/.
It's what I thought though, the GX does indeed appear to be the S with an upgraded core, so the deciding factor would really be design (S) or if you are a spec-junkie the S4 (GX). Yes, the screen is larger, but it has onscreen buttons, so you lose screen real-estate.
All in all, I'm keeping my S for two years . I am curious to see what next year will bring.
Final thought (or just something I forgot to add ):
I wonder if it has a card slot in it, because that is quite small if it's not expandable, which would be another big deciding factor.
Xperia GX
I think the GX is way sexier than the Xperia S & thinner well most of the phone is. I so hope this is released in the Uk, but only if the battery is as least 2000 mAH

Well, at that size you just do not have that many options. If they add the bar, already long phone will get even longer.
But it is a shame anyway. They could at least "fake" something resembling the light bar, not necessary transparent, as it would be great notification light. Something most phones nowadays are sorely missing.
I just hope, that this is not the real "hayabusa".

This is a bit of an afterthought, as I am just looking through that pdf now.
I thought it was just the picture, but the SX has a rather large space between the earpiece and the screen, giving it a very long effect. Kinda like the old pre-smartphone candybar phones.
Maybe it was the last little SE thing before they were taken over, to launch the S and such with the light bar. But on these devices it's like they were designed when the creative department was on vacation :/.
Even the Sola (which I thought was launched as a new tech gimmick) had a sort of light bar to it and I felt was better designed.
The GX and SX are nice devices, but I wouldn't consider them flagships like some people are saying, they seem to be rushed to me, I don't know...
The big upper bezel in the SX is only because of the Japan-specific features. They have to put the TV antenna and IR blaster somewhere now don't they
The GX is perfect for an international release. No Japan-specific features, no carrier branding so far. The only thing they'd have to change is the modem, and that is just a slightly different SoC. I highly suspect the GX to be released near the end of the summer in EMEA. The US can f* off, they get enough nice exclusive phones already anyway

If rumours about 1750mAh are true, then I am afraid it is dead for me. And probably to many others outside of japan.
Even if it has replaceable battery.
I was really hoping to see just an updated Xperia S
I love the design of XS, these new ones, they does'nt look premium or even a little bit special
Sony has to learn that 3 models per year is just right
A high-end, mid-end, low-end and at the max, a new Xperia Play
all other techs developped during the year must wait to the next's years flagship device.
I'll probably stay with my Arc for a year or 2
waiting for a not too big phone, quad-core, better battery life, and why not, the same technology used with the Xperia Active?
Woo, I'm glad I have an Xperia S. Those things are butt-ugly.
Seriously Sony? Get rid of Ericsson and release one of the dopest looking phones on the market - only to release some of the ugliest phones right after?
This does not bode well.

I think its pretty minor. The only thing the krait does better are benchmarks. The S is already really fast, but it could have better memory latency and bandwidth which the GX does have. The S never has lag in my opinion and unless you want a bigger epeen, you really don't need the new core for most tasks. I do like the look of the new casing alot, it is how the Xperia S should have been made. I am not a fan of the arc design though and the screen is too damn big. 4.3 is perfect.
The idea that the gx will come packed with an s4 processor is right now, just pure speculation.
There would be no phones released this year by Sony with radically different hardware from either the s or the ion.
To do that would be to diminish and even you could argue make a mockery of the term flagship.
They cannot release a new flagship barely 5 months after the launch of the s.
I know it was disappointing to see the S launched with the s3 but I'm afraid Sony users will just have to make do with that this year.
Sony always cheap out on processors. They did it last year with the arc and it's the same story now.
I don't know maybe they do it to stay competitive on pricing or to just keep the price down considering the 12mp camera on board.
Don't forget that the recommended retail price for the xperia s is £460 as compared to the one x which is £480.
The fact you can find the S for much less is due to the fact the big retailers have refused that price because of the great difficulties they had selling the hopeless phones Sony Ericsson released last year.
So you could say, the S is having to clean up the mess left behind by all those competitively weak devices released last year.
Dual core made more of an impression last year than quad core will make this year because android really need multi threading. After two two cores, anything else is just a bonus but not essential.
By that, releasing single core phones last year was just plain ridiculous.

Well, there is one fairly significant difference: the LTE.
The only way to go with S3 would be to integrate some "external" 3rd party solution, like some "early birds" from HTC or Samsung did.
Which would be a huge undertaking with their share of problems. And I doubt such small device as SX would be doable at all. This is before we even consider such things as battery life.
Similarly, ST-Ericsson NovaThors with LTE won't be available until 2013.
To do that would be to diminish and even you could argue make a mockery of the term flagship.

I have an impression, the Xperia S was rushed emergency release. Just to have something to sell *now*, and not a part of normal development pipeline. If so, the xs will be pushed to background as soon as real flagships are ready.

Hey Everyone ... since apparently we wont be recieving any upgrade soon for the Zultra ... whats the next phone you'd suggest ... i do realize that samsung is out of the deal with its plastic mess ... HTC one m8 sounds like a good deal ... tell me what you think!
Don't know if it worth upgrading... a few more Hz and some RAM

Rumor has it that Motorola and Google might release a 5.9in Nexus code name "shamu". I am waiting to see if that is the case. About .5 inches too small IMHO, but might be something to look into if true.
What do u think about Lg G pro 2 ?

I'm afraid that we have no better choice for the replacement. So for me just hoping that this ultra's battery can last as long as possible and whenever it doesn't hold any more charge, hopefully Sony still have the sparepart. Or you know, xperia z2 with modded 400 ppi would be nice.
Lenovo? Yeah right, like you don't need any Android update at all.

The lenovo has no microsd-slot
I think the lenovo is the only real alternative. Everything else is of lower spec. But having said that the present ultra doesn't really need to be upgraded imo. Specs are plenty good enough to run everything I throw at it and never really feel lags as such. So why waste the money?! But then again even I can't help myself but have a change

Hi all
I'm sorry xerox but after hard playing on asphalt 8, i get this result.
And your result is take when the CPU is tested with a stress test, not in real utilisation.
So keep the alpha
Its up to you. I've had all the Sony line up (ive had pretty much all Android flagships except the Alpha, which I just bought last week). The Sony will heat up and after use for 4-6 months beit from charging overnight or playing games and the back will become loose meaning it is not waterproof. the phone will still work though so that's up to you. I just did not like the loose back which Sony have only fixed on the Z5. Another thing is if you do wear skinny jeans the phone does start to creak after a while after being under stress from you moving around.
I love my little Alpha and build quality is brill. Both phones are really snappy but I prefer developing stuff for Samsungs with Exy chips.
This is all from experience and not someone who hasn't tried the phone. I do like the Sonys though and have development quite a few ROMs for them

Hello thx for the opinion. I need to ask in terms of performance , camera, and th and build quality screen etc you still preffer Alpha?
The display on the alpha is an amoled type which is good for viewing under sunlight and in normal place i think it produced unreal color(I always switch to basic mode) but the Z3 has an Ips display which is not really good under sunlight but in normal place i think the color is pretty decent(Prefer the z3).The performance of the snapdragon 801 is better than the exynos on the alpha(prefer the z3).The camera on both is pretty decent and can capture 4k video(prefer the z3).Both have a 32gb internal memory but the z3 has an expandable memory card(prefer the alpha 32gb is enough for me).The alpha use touchwiz which has full of bloatware and it use alot of ram,the z3 use sony UI which has very little bloatware and lighter than touchwiz (prefer CyanogenMod). Dev support for the alpha is suck because it use exynos processor (no driver plus not alot of dev use the alpha) and the z3 has tons of roms to flash beside there are alot of dev keep developing a rom for that device .Both probably get an official android marshmallow update from their manufacturer. For the design I prefer the Alpha design(Cus I've use the Z1 compact before and the design on the z3 is pretty much the same). The Alpha has fingerprint sensor the Z3 doesnt, the z3 is waterproof the alpha doesnt.Decided by your self

Hi
For me the Alpha is in the best 2014 phones.
Good photos,
VERY VERY GOOD performance with his octo core Exynos 5430 processor ( For me Exynos 5430 is besser than S801 )
The screen is very good for a 720p and the built quality is excellent, no cracks or shocks after one year.
You can make your choice
