Joker's CM9 rom update? - Motorola Photon 4G

I've been happy using CM7 and have been away from the forum for over a month since last flashing CM9 0.0.2. However, it was a bit buggy so I re-flashed CM7. Was hoping someone could fill me in on the latest stuff on it without having to read the last 50 pages of the cm9 thread. Is the camera stable? It was working but had some bugs with it. What about 4G with any of the non-stock roms on the Photon? Thanks.

On Joker's CM9, still camera appears to work fine, but the camcorder isn't worth it. In 720p, there's HUGE lag on the screen (point it at something and it takes like 4 seconds for the picture to move). In 480p, it's all red&pink noise.

[Q] What is the currently stablest ROM?

As much as I love reading through threads on XDA, I just dont have much time reading every Dev thread here. I will be getting an Atrix in the coming days to replace my Dell Streak. The reason why I cannot read through all the thread is because Ive been on and off with like 4 different droids and just cant waste so much time reading through all the threads, Ive already burnt all the time I had to waste.
So If anyone could just give the name of the ROM which they think is the most stable at this moment, I would be very greatful. As I need a stable ROM to fall back on when I try all the new ones coming out.
Thanks in advance!

Am still fiddling with the original ROM.
do note that once you switch to CM7, you will lose the webtop functionality.

Atrix allows you to dock the phone to a lapdock which transform it into something like a netbook.
the lapdock has a 11.6" screen, keyboard, 2 USB ports and doubles as an extended battery.
Google for pictures/videos and more details.

It's working great for me. I mean, I have little requirements. Facebook, Twitter, Browser, XDA app, camera (not video), wifi, 3g.. they're all working great for me. It's stable for my needs. You can give it a try. If you don't like it, you can always use Neutrino
Just remember that not all apps would work. Chrome, for example, is forever crashing on the Atrix due to the lag of hardware acceleration.

Using Neutrino here. Really great performance-wise. I gave up CM9´s roms ATM because i need a fully functional camera and even though the situation got better now, it still buggy. Neutrino is my daily driver though.
Once again, thanks for all of your info! I really appreciate it. Ill be getting my Atrix today in just a few hours

I flashed CM7 to my Atrix 4G earlier this week and it is stable. I spent many hours reconfiguring and testing after the change to ensure the phone will be stable for work. I think it will be and do not plan to make any more major changes until the end of the year unless something catastrophic happens.
The phone has not crashed and boots 5x faster than stock (30s - 35s from button down). Bluetooth connects within one or two seconds compared to 5s - 10s before. Wifi performance has remained unchanged, sometime up to 30s to fix but I have only tried on my old, home router. GPS lock is 10s - 15s indoors, maybe a slight performance increase. Camera loads quick. No hesitation when typing (after the last upgrade I was seeing a lot of that).

I'd say CM7.2 last stable release.
Better then any other ROM i tried, and i tried them all
I'd like neutrino 2.8 EE too, rock solid since launch

No, Neutrino is CM7 based and webtop does not exist on any such roms (or any ICS roms).
Furthermore , the old Webtop is likely to become permanently dead. We will have to figure out how to use the tablet mode based webtop in the future.

"Best" is subjective. The most popular Blur-based ROM still seems to be NottachTrix; unfortunately, the latest version (1.3.1) is also the last version, as Nottach no longer supports it (he no longer owns an Atrix). There are a few other Blur-based ROMs that seem to still be in active development, but I haven't really been following them (I use CM7.2).

Question about issues with CM7.

I recently rooted my gf's fascinate and flashed CM7 on it, the most stable release which I believe is 7.2.0. I originally used 7.1.0 but her gallery wasn't loading her photos from externalSD and her flashlight app would only work for about 2 seconds before her camera light would shut off. I updated to 7.2.0 and that didn't fix anything.
I can't seem to find an official thread to post in and the other CM7 threads have been dead for at least a month or more. I google searched and the only other person with a non-working gallery on CM7 just used quickpic, no idea what phone they had, but I'd prefer to either fix her gallery or go with a better ROM.
So is there a way to fix her gallery, or is there a better ROM than CM7 for her phone?
ETA: She's also having issues with no data on network, and now for some reason I'm unable to get any data here at my house on my wifi. Looks like I'll have to flash back to stock until I figure out what to do next. My Captivate was nowhere near the amount of headaches this phone is.
Why not try an ICS rom? Most people here would agree that's the best you can get on the fascinate right now, myself included. I just switched over myself to AOKP M6 and I love it. It's fast as hell and everything works. Good luck

I've been thinking about getting her hooked up with that AOKP M6 rom. I suppose I'll give that a try.

[Q] Is the camera horrible on every single custom rom?

is it just me, or on every rom after three weeks or so the camera f/c or will only open through multitask? Stock it worked fine but just about every rom has issues with the sense camera.

Every Rom? How many did you install. I have never had a problem with my camera on MeanRom. Are you running a non sense rom? Making a blanket statement like that is unfounded.

Haven't had an issue yet, try fix permissions and clearing app or or data
its a pretty general issue. Meanrom is what im running now, viper4g as well. i understand cm10 and aokp cameras suck. probably have about 5 nandroids including stock. don't remember it so much on stock, but honestly, who stays stock that long.

I was having issues with CM10/Paranoid with the camera crashing when it was running in the background or switching to it from the multitasking screen. My issues were even worse with SIII AOSP Camera Mod. While on mean I had no issue. Never found a solution to that problem.
If you have any data, even exif data from different camera apps, they won't play nice with AOSP. The thought just occurred to me so I pushed an old camera apk and gallery apk that I had issues with and same thing until I scrubbed all exif data from the jpegs

Well, ICS is pretty much been dropped as far as development goes, though there is CanonRom and cm9 still available. Both are fairly stable, and for an ics rom have pretty decent battery life.
JB has taken priority and there are plenty of choices. AOKP Is a great place to start, it has a lot of rom options, but not so much it overwhelms you. With all of the current jellybean roms, expect a few issues. If you didnt already know, Moto has declared the photon obsolete and will not be giving us ICS. Meaning, we do not have the proper drivers/libs to fix some issues. The camcorder does not work. There is a slight lag in animations(but has mostly been resolved) Some games lag/skip. Battery life is hit or miss, but your probably looking at about 10-20 hours of use, 24+ if you standby alot. Overall, it is worth it for the JellyBean experience.
There is also CNA(similar to aokp, but more option), MIUI(iphone like), Paranoid(known for phablet/tablet mode), XenonHD (never used the rom too often so not too sure)
I'm using Th3Bill's (Jokersax's) CM10 jb rom 4.1.2 (1018 build) . So far my experience
+'s:
Very stable, minus the couple items below
Pretty damn fast (1300 mhz and 256mb heap size)
Getting about 36 hours of battery life with light usage (best i've ever gotten)
Updated pretty regularly (about a build every week)
-'s:
Netflix not working
Google streetview not working
Don't use the camcorder, but if I recall some say it doesnt work quite right
Original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787743
As Th3Bill is taking over for joker while he's on a break, the DL's have moved to http://goo.im/devs/Th3Bill/CM10/Photon

Thank you guys for the update!
About the camcorder - you mean that there is no camera at all or only the video rec is missing?
Of what you impressed, there is any chance to get any update/to get it works sometime?
Any other 'critical' things that missing at JB ROMs [that we had on GB] ?
Thanks again!

Camera app is there and it works, but the video lags behind slightly what you point the phone cam at. i.e. if you pan quickly from left to right to left it will start panning about a second behind where the phone is at.
Just tried the camcorder part of it, it lags as well and although it showed recording, I don't think it saved the video, or at least wasnt visible in Gallery or on the sdcard under DCIM/Camera (maybe they arent saved there anymore, don't use it so I'm not sure there)
Can't really comment on the prospects of getting it working as I kinda skim over those posts
Oh and the old thread got pruned and the new one is now, you may ask there

Hi guys. Why no one pulled the video library with the Atrix leak? Or someone is doing now? Devices as almost identical in hardware ... what problems are? In the radio part?

[Q] Most Stable ICS/JB Rom?

I've gone through a few roms, including CM10.1 and AOKP from th3bill. It seems like AOKP is in fact the most compatible, as every app I've tried runs (Antutu, Chrome and Bluetooth were the deal breakers of CM10.1). I've had some issues with stuttering, but I do understand that will happen with any ROM.
Any other ROMs that rival how well it works?
bump?
PA 2.99
I have been using it as a daily since it was released. Tried others but always come back to it. Using the November 22nd build as I find it more stable then the very last build.
It's been very reliable, using video cam illusion for video....no issues.
My phone runs great on it...getting the HTC One soon though...my photon has been a workhorse for two years now and it's time to move on.

Thanks for the heads up. What will you be doing with your Photon 4g afterwards? I have an Electrify, and USCC is leaving me in the dark pretty soon... I have to switch service. Electrify can't be unlocked to a local GSM carrier unfortunately. If you'd want to trade or sell it for a cheap price, please PM me. Thanks.

What does/doesn't work on it?
almost everything works.sms/mms.i have it clocked down with rom toolbox pro,to 1000.it doesn't seem to suffer from the driver related issues that start poking their heads in JB ie: graphical glitches, over heating,ect... google chrome will/does crash after a short while, but that's driver related also.sms split/long message mms conversion doesn't work sometime.its an all around solid rom,and a good stock replacement. you can download it from team uscellulars website.from time to time I boot into recovery and wipe dalvik and cache,to cure any hiccups that arise, but it runs as good as stock moto ics does on other devices.
