Xperia S RAM - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

So our XS has 1GB of RAM but how is it split?
I know some is for the system to use and some is for the GPU to use.
But, according to my phone right now I have:
156Mb Used - 460Mb Free
That's 616Mb total that's available for use.
Is the other 408Mb really all for the GPU or is some of it set aside for something else?
Thanks

System cache ~200M.
Dalvik virtual machine ~200M.
So available ram left~600M.

Where did you find that info from? Can share more information like, what's under "System Cache" and "Dalvik virtual machine"?

[Q] Help needed post TheMyth(Beta2Full by devilsking) Installation

Hi,
I was able to install TheMyth Beta 2 full with the help of the instructions on the following pages:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376039
However now I am unable to perform step no. 6 listed on the website and I wonder what is wrong.
Here is the step 6:
"Step 6: After u finish with Tweak manager, continue to open A2SDGUI.
+ Enable Swap and Zipalign.
+ Open 2nd tab and select "sd-ext". "
I was able to select Enable Swap, and my Ace accepted this command. However when I try to activate Zipalign, it goes back to disable in few seconds.
Also when I try to select sd-ext and choose Move, then it gives me an error saying "Not Enought space left"
What is going on here? I am worried because I do not know how important are these steps.
Thanks,
Aashishbhargav
Then disable swap , don't use it
Herpderp DXKPB.
How much MB do u use for ext and swap?
Thanks for replying. AS2DGUI automatically tries to set swap at 65 but then it fails to do so.
I have 56 MB of internal memory free out of 178 MB of total space. Is this the cause of the problem? Most Apps refuse to move to SD from internal memory.
I am new to android. Need Help..
Thanks in advance.

Aashish
Must partition your SD card with CWM.

U must have ext and swap partition on sdcard to enable in A2SDGUI. Use CWM recovery to do it.

Hello All,
Thanks for all your help. I am keeping the swap disabled for the moment. If I format the Sd Card, do I have to flash and install ROM again?
Here are some other issues (probably known by now):
1) Google search widget does not work.
2) On opening browser and typing something directly in the address bar does not search the string entered. It just opens google.com
3) Music App in Devil King's old ROM was great. This one does not appear to be that cool. And there is one bug. On clicking on a song in the playlist, it appears to play, you can even fast forward, rewind it with the scroll bar. However the song which appears to be playing is different than the song that is really playing. I checked multiple songs, same issue, always.
4) I calibrated my battery, but the battery seems to last for only 9 hours, with facebook and email sync active in the background. And less than one hour of phone call and 5 minutes of internet browsing. I am not sure if this the ideal battery life of a 4 months old Ace.
5) On selecting an email in Gmail, Archive, Delete and Labels buttons pop up, but contrast on the buttons is such that the text is not clear.
Looking forward to get rid of all these issues in the final release.
Thanks
Aashish

Enable swap on CM10 / PACman ROMs

Unsupported. I do not use swap anymore. Info attached for historical reasons only.
@shardul Is the low ram problem in PAC18 because of the kernel ??
will this script work only on cm10 based roms or on all roms(gingerbread stock, cm9 and ICS stock?)...bcoz if it does...this script is much better then swap to cache as it will utilize the waste empty space on system partition instead of occupying cache space.
if it works only on cm10...then can you plz create a similar script for all roms?
i flashed it on my xperia mini running cm10. but when i typed free in terminal emulator i got swap 0 0 0!! any solution??
what is the maximum value of swap ram i can set? don't know how big the systempartition is.. or is in the amount of internal memory which can be found in settings>storage?
Hi Shardul...i have cleaned up system partition and have 210mb free...but i fear if the frequent trade over on system partition may degrade the nand memory...plz clarify it as you also have implemented a 50mb system swap in your suave kernel...plz tell me if it is safe.

Didn't work for my MK16. Phone actually felt much slower than before.
PACman ROM (4.1.2)
Badass, 1.4 ghz, SIO
Phone works slower and often reboots...

[Q] Reboot shortcut issues

Hello...I'm running Elegancia and Nova browser right now with SuperUser installed. I went to place a "system reboot" shortcut on my homepage. When I went to use it it asked for "Superuser Priveleges" which I granted...but after that there was an error saying that the program couldn't work on an 'unresponsive shell" or something like that. I had the same issue when i tried to install a power down button through the power toggles app. Any idea why this is happening?
I have another question about a different issue, but I'll post it here to avoid making multiple threads. I go into advanced task manager and even after I kill everything it says there is only 300mb of RAM left...is this normal? Does the system/ROM/launcher consumer 700mb of RAM?
Also, BUMP to my first question
I will try to answer your first answer but I don't have the exact answer to this only a theory. The Widget shortcut is only valid for a Reboot on a Sense based ROM and since you are using Nova launcher...
As for your second question...
You don't have to worry about memory. The OS manages how applications use your phone’s RAM. It only allows applications and their component processes and services to use RAM when they need it. It will cache processes that you’ve been using recently in RAM, so they restart more rapidly when you open them again, but it will erase the cache if it needs the RAM for new applications. It's not a Windows like system where the more RAM you have the better the OS is responding. This is based on Linux core and the memory management is totally different. And way more effective. If this phone was built with 2Gb of RAM the cache would only cache more applications and their components processes since more space would be available for caching.

Good to know about the memory. Regarding my other issue...I don't know what happened, but I reflashed the ROM without wiping and the reboot shortcut started working.

What version? Did you wipe before and after install? Did you install any mods?
Try another clean install from stock 54 and wipe all before and after.

Have you wiped cache and dalvik cache?
Try using Greenify, Seeder, Smart ram booster.

I wiped cache, data and dalvik cache before the flashing, and the only mod i have installed il the viper audio mod.
I'll try one of those and let you know
Another thing I found strange is that total ram on my phone is only 388 MB (as shown in Smart RAM Booster)

Ya this is because rest of the ram is used by the OS and nearly half of the 388mb is used by system processes.
Wipe cache and dalvik cache again.
Select all your apps in greenify except ram booster and place a Hibernate now shortcut on the homescreen, click on it whenever you end up playing heavy games or hard multitasking.

Kate - Global Dev 6.9.29 - No Cache used?

Hi, my devices is a Kate and I´m on Global Dev 6.9.29. If I use Browser, Chrome, Download, Play Store, News-Apps or Google+, there should be a Cache used. If I go to App Info of the desired App and want to delete cache, there is always 0,0 MB. Also Cache Cleaning Apps like "App CacheCleaner" report 0 MB Cache used.
Could someone please verify, if this behavior is standard for this Rom or only for me? Don´t have a clue, where to set such a behavior, dont think I´ve done a setting for this...
Just looked now, cache is definitely used. Maybe your Security app is setup to clean cache on a schedule ?

Thanks for Info, I found this setting already, but it is not set. So I cant imagine what is going on...
As I wrote, I have a "Kate" with Global Dev 6.9.29 Firmware. In german forum some guys confirmed the behavior, Cache size isn´t displayed correctly under settings/apps/all apps/...
Cache is used, confirmed with Rootexplorer under data/data/..app-directory../cache, but not displayed from system or some Apps like "App-CacheCleaner". I used TitaniumBackup to clear all caches of the apps and I got about 0,5 GB more internal storage. So there was used cache but it wasnt displayed from system or other apps...
