I'm considering upgrading my SGS II to the released Europe ICS firmware, but can this then be updated further via ODIN to the official UK version update when it comes out next week?
All I wanted to understand was whether if I updated to the Europe version whether I'd be commited do that update schedule, or I could go back to 'official' release later on if I wanted (if it got a further update earlier for instance)
Apologies if it was an inapproriate question

do not apologize mate you are entitled to ask questions so forget the trolls who are flaming you.
more than likely the UK update will be similar to the LPQ one if not the same version anyway. so your best bet is wait and flash it through odin when it is released here. That is all the best you can do..stick with what you have and then when the release gets here to us then feel free to update through odin

I don't see a problem with people asking questions. But asking if you can flash an EU rom on an EU handset is like asking if its possible to spread butter on bread. Its simple understanding that can be done with reading.

true but it is always to be safe than sorry and even if it is straight forward understanding for some they just like to be sure...so if you did not want to reply to him just ignore it rather than give a smart ass answer like you did.

First off, been trolling these forums for awhile now, finally just registered to post and what not. Everyone here does AMAZING work and your efforts should be heralded and shouted from the skies! lol ok enough butt kissing..
Anyways, I got a few questions. The first one is to clear up confusion:
The first leak that came out from the Taiwanese guy, that is referred to the "2.1 leak" correct? And the March 24th is "2.1 OTA Leak" ? Just reading all these threads I'm getting real confused on them.
Now I flashed the newest leak (March 24th). This from what I have read is not rooted at the moment correct? And with this version, I can't use the recovery ROM due to no being rooted correct? I just did the non root way of flashing it...
If this release does become rooted, will I be able to root my phone if I did the non-root flash?
And lastly, all the ROMS that are out. Are the based off the 1st leak root and that root only?
Sorry for all the randomness of the questions... Some of this stuff is just very overwhelming. Thanks in advance for all the future help/info. And sorry to those that will take the time to flame me and what not.
take a look at some of the links in my signature. specifically the very last one. to learn more about what each rom is based off of, then go through the links in the rest of my sig and the devs that made them might say in their thread what each rom is based off of. to start rooting your phone, if you do get to that point read the second to last link. unfortunately it sounds like you do not have a rootable rom on your phone now so you wont be able to follow that thread, unless you get a new phone and start from the beginning.
What S/W Ver are people who have the phone currently running? Any recent OTA updates?
May have a present for users. No Guarantee
What? No one knows? Pretty simple question.
Once I get an answer I may be able to change things a little. I just need to know because I don't have a GSII.....
KI8 2.3.5 seems to be the newest samsung rom, or 2.3.7 with cm7/miui.
As its a Question in the wrong forum but i will answer its simple most people with SGS2 are running what came with the phone . XDA users are running many and varied firmwares . Latest release for some is KI8 no releases this month .

Hi, I'm looking to buy this phone unit one of these days.
but, most of the units that I see/saw , has gingerbread OS,
is the ice cream sandwich now available ?..
please point me out to a URL of a step by step tutorial
how to tweak samsung galaxy S II , in order to upgrade it to
android 4.0 ice cream sandwich
Thanks in advance
I can't see the point of that until/unless you actually have the phone in front of you
And for the 174,823,904th time, ICS will be released by Samsung "some time in Q1 2012".
Cyanogen have an alpha/experimental ICS build out at the moment which seems to be improving stability/performance-wise every day tho.

I see, so it wasn't released yet, based from your reply.
I thought it was already available.
My objective is, learn how to upgrade, so that once I bought
this unit, I'll immediately upgrade/update the OS before putting
some nice apps from the droid market place.
any tutorials that you might want to recommend for noobs to read ?
How to root your SGS2 & how to flash firmware. Also, some roms have specific instructions (like having to flash the rom twice in order for it to work), always follow these to the letter if they differ.
Best bit of advice I can give you is read. Then read some more. And when you're done with that, read more again. Don't do anything to your phone unless/until you understand why you want to do it and how to do it.
Go to the development section of the forum to read up about the various roms/kernels available for the SGS2 & you'll be able to get an idea of the features/pluses/minuses of each & other users experiences with these roms/kernels.
Then you can decide which you might want to try for yourself.
And before you ask, no I won't recommend "the best rom/kernel", because there's no such thing. Every phone comes out of the factory slightly different (components vary a little), you won't use your phone the same way as me nor will you have it setup the same as me. So you're going to need to do your research first, then try some roms/kernels & see which work best for you.

At the moment, I don't really know what the hell are these roms/kernels you're talking about. But thanks for the link, I'll start digging this to prepare myself for the ICS before buying this cool unit .
Hello, I have a Galaxy S II, I want to upgrade to Android 4.0.3, which firmware you advise me.?
I want a future that would allow the update via OTA and the Kies.
Sorry for the ignorance and Parabens by the Forum.
My version is low!
this BADLY needs to be moved to the Q&A section. Development threads only in this section!!
If you want to keep all the official update methods then you will just have to wait on Samsung. Flashing one of these voids your warranty....
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Stock is better than any of the ICS builds currently available for me.
New CM9 build is highly recommended.
Edit: Apologies disregard. Kies/OTA requirement spotted.
Regards
I guess its easy to summarize that there's none currently, as the ones currently available are leaks and not officially released by Samsung, and therefore, you won't be able to update through OTA or Kies.
Wait for a few weeks for the official version.
Hello all, I have a question that I hope isn't already answered.
I have my T-Mobile galaxy S5 and I had rooted it and flashed roms, the whole nine yards... I then un-rooted it and flashed the stock rom (the most current at the time).
It has been a couple months since I have updated it because as you guys know, once you root your phone, you no longer get any OTA updates...
So my question is, if I go from the current stock T-Mobile build that I am on (G900TUVU1ANCH) to the most current one, correct me if I am wrong, (G900TUVU1BNG3) will I miss out on anything from the releases before that? Like I know that T-Mobile added the VoLTE software in the release before this one... if I skip that release for the new one, will I not receive that software? Do the new builds add on to the previous ones?
Thank you for your responses!

No, the latest version of the firmware is the whole firmware. It should include the whole system with all updates etc.

yup, just install the latest and your good.
As the earlier reply suggested, you do not need to install all of the firmware versions that have been released. The most current, full firmware image will be a stand alone and full featured set of features. If you find any feature missing, it would only be because Samsung or the carrier depreciated it and do not intend that feature to be available on any future firmware releases either.
So you just need to flash the most current firmware.
