[KERNEL][HC][VIEW][SENSE] Jmz HC kernel v1 3-15-12 - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

So, with source released I figured I would post a kernel. Info is below. Pretty straight forward.
Also, you will not find any cockyness here. I only do this for fun and not everyone can be perfect.
Any issues with this kernel, please give full details of what the issue is or I can't fix it.

Boot into fastboot
Pull boot.img from zip
type 'fastboot flash boot path/to/img'

Haven't tried it yet but thank you for developing a kernel, we definitely needed one especially with HW keys working

I see what happened. My build script failed me yet again. It didn't include the modules in the zip. Reuploading now.

Whoa, awesome. Definitely going to give it a shot, View's been waiting for this for a long time.
Is this AOSP-built in mind or for sense based?

Ok, tested and reuploaded. Still dunno why my script didn't put the modules in there. But thanks for letting me and link is now updated.

Sense, and that reminds me i need to change the title to reflect that

Well I guess this is what I get for rushing it. HTC broke it even further by disabling scaling frequencies. So, you cant change min/max. So I enabled it via vnc so when I get home I will reupload a fixed version

Thanks man. Awesome work. This on the Desensed rom is very fast and smooth. Have there been additional updates since the second one you made?
Sent from my PG41200 using Tapatalk

I uploaded a new version. If you notice you can't change min/max voltages. Thats because of perflock being enabled and scaling frequencies missing. I uploaded a new version but it has the same name since both were built today. So, just redownload it and flash it. Now you will be able to change frequencies like normal.

I also have about 10 more commits to github done so prolly later this afternoon I will be uploading a new one.

Updated once again. But this one will be the last for the night. Still trying to figure out the backlighting on the hardware keys.

try asking the dev of CypherRom. I havent updated to the latest version but one of the older versions had the backlight working and when I flashed your kernel over it the backlight was working and were the buttons.

Good news! I'm too tired to be farkin around with adb right now lol
Do you feel a boost in speed?
mine was showing only 1188 when i first installed WTSB rom and it wouldn't let me overclock like it said the included kernel would. So i reinstalled it and now my set cpu tells me max cpu is 1026mhz.
i've uninstalled, rebooted, installed, etc, multiple times with no change.

So the kernel that everyone says is fine with the WTSB doesn't work with my phone as the other 3 kernels that everyone says are perfectly fine don't work as well.
so the next guess is what since i've tried 4 kernels so far with the same results?
also, i've been around for a while but never posted so i can't post in the dev forum yet. This isn't my first rooting rodeo but i'm new to the evo 3d. I've never had problems like this on any of the other platforms i've used.

Frankly, I don't see the benefit to overclocking anyways... much less putting in as much effort as that guy is to do it...
SetCPU isn't going to take well with a temp root... and you can't over clock without a custom kernel (unless you really want to **** your phone up). Just s-off, root, install CWM via ROM Manager, boot into recovery, flash a custom ROM followed by a custom OC/UC kernel and GAPPS. Also, make sure to set your profiles correctly. Do it right and you'll have amazing battery life AND a phone pushing 2GHz clock speed.

Setcpu has never been friendly with my phone, always ran into some issues, rather it be big or small, system tuner... I have yet to run into an issue that wasn't fixxed by the dev. In an update...

The New Kernel

Just dropping a line mentioning it; the new kernel has the same battery life in my use. It does make things even a little bit more smoother and runs a touch cooler over the older ICS kernel, as the cpu is always scaling back and forth constantly.
Really REALLY need kernel source.....
My phone is also running cooler with the new kernel. I am also getting a stronger wi-fi signal with the new RUU.
I installed Micro CPU Monitor to see what the processor is doing. I'm stock on the latest leak with no problems. It does seem to bounce around a bit, but at least it isn't all or nothing. I also noticed when doing nothing it kinda stabilizes at a low value.

Don't use SetCPU to monitor it's speed, use a tool that only monitors the speed that can't change it. With SetCPU, you see the perflock kicking in and changing the minimum value.
I do agree, once we have source we can get some kernels out with perflock disabled and have better control over them.

I am finding this latest leak is more stable and the phone is running much cooler. I have no facts to base this statement on, other than how the phone is running when I'm using it. There are definitely less hiccups and my data connection appears much more solid.
I agree. Better life and cooler. But it does seem a little more laggy sometimes

Yup. I took the zip from Nilsp's thread and flashed it. It rebooted to bootloader to allowed a PH98IMG flash. Unsure what effects it would have with doing a "fastboot flash boot" command.

[Kernel]7/13/12 StockMOD 1.22.651.3 CoreDuo/ScreenOff Script/MemManagement/DimLights

Here's the modified stock kernel from software ver 1.22.651.3, flashable through recovery, of course.
Includes init.d support.
Changelog:
6/8/12:
Initial release. Modifications will appear here as I type them up.
6/11/12:
Added Stock core settings version.
6/22/12:
Updated memory management values
Added modified 70cputweak file from my ROM to apply memory management values and apply single core while screen is off
Added DimLights
6/22/12-b:
Fixed an issue in 70cputweak where the CPU would get stuck @ 384MHz. (Thanks assumption and closeone for the report!)
7/13/12:
Updated to reflect 1.22.651.3
Kernel information:
freEVOLTE StockMOD1.13.651.1Tweaked.zip: Used in freEVO LTE 1.1 and above. This includes dual core always with minimum freq set to stock at 384MHz, single core @ 384MHz while screen-off, and optimized memory management values.
freEVOLTE StockMOD1.13.651.1StockCores.zip: Used in freEVO LTE 1.1a and above as an optional flash. It is the same as the Tweaked version but includes Stock core settings and no DimLights.

WiFi Connection issues

Hey, guys.
I'm having some WiFi woes. First (after some trouble) I installed the official OTA update to ICS via the bootloader. I had an issue where my phone would only connect to WiFi if I prompted it to. If I step outside the WiFi zone, or even walk into an area with a different WAP (like at work) it'll disconnect and won't connect again until I turn the WiFi off and then on again. Now, I've installed Project Butter Speed ROM 6.0, and I'm having the same issues. My old G2 would connect flawlessly whenever I got in range of a WiFi network - no prompt from me, just saw it and connected.
Couple more points:
* WiFi is set to always on, even when screen is off.
* On both ROMs, I've checked the "Best Wi-Fi performance" option in the wireless advanced settings. (Does that actually do anything?)
Thanks!
P.S.
I had a choice, here: Resurrect this old thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25303368&highlight=wifi#post25303368), or make a new one. Sorry if I've made the frowned upon choice.
I'm having the same problem with SpeedRom 7.8 are you getting the same problem and if not did you find a fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I live off of wifi and I hate turning it on and off!
I am on NRGZ Rom and faux kernel and I do not have this problem
sent from my
NRGized amaze

Yeah, I'm using Speed Rom 7.8 on the stock kernel, and I'm still having the issue. I ended up going another route: I purchased some NFC tags online (link below), and programmed one using "NFC Task Launcher" to turn the WiFi off and back on again. Then, I attached the tag to a little stand where I keep my phone on my desk at work. This way, I just pass it over the tag, and in about 10-15 seconds, it reconnects; I don't have to manually do it. Not the best solution, but one that works for me until a more permanent solution is found.
I may actually attempt to write myself a little widget that I can hit on my homescreen to toggle the WiFi off and on again. If anyone knows of anything that does this already, please let me know. It connects to my home WiFi about 80% of the time. Right now, I'm just living with it.
I remember reading an article on T-Mobile's forums where people complained about this. Apparently, HTC confirmed that it was a firmware issue with the WiFi, but hasn't done a blasted thing about it! Really frustrates me; they make solid phones, but the way they handle their software is absurd! They don't release the source on an open-source platform, they don't give you the option for a Sense-free overlay, and they DON'T FIX THE ISSUES WITH THE PHONES THEY'VE ALREADY PRODUCED. Honestly, for as much as I love the build and camera on the Amaze, if the new Nexus is anything like it, I'm ditching HTC alltogether. They will have lost a customer permanently. I wish there was a way I could let them know.
Anyway, in case you want to check out my alternate method:
NFC Task Launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DMsImNvbS5qd3NvZnQubmZjYWN0aW9ubGF1bmNoZXIiXQ..
NFC Tags: http://www.amazon.com/PREFORMATTED-...UTF8&qid=1349358760&sr=8-11&keywords=nfc+tags
I might also add that you can do some pretty cool stuff with these tags. For instance, I also have another one on my desk at work that, when scanned, turns off WiFi and turns on GPS for my route home. Many people use it to connect Bluetooth devices, queue up music playlists, launch navigation, etc. There's some really neat stuff you can do; I'm hoping NFC sticks around for a while.
Also, one more quick note: Because I love the website, and because this does make a great little universal stand, here's the phone stand that I'm using: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/eb42/?srp=9
Let me know if you guys come up with some other good suggestions! I'm not looking to switch ROMs, because I REALLY like Speed Rom....
Thanks! :highfive:
Thanks for the awesome response. Really elaborate. That's a cool set up you got there. It wouldn't be as practical for me since I'm always one the move from one place to another at school. I was wondering if there is something that controls the wifi in the zip file that we would be able to pin point and swap it out with a rom that works. I tried out CM10 and the wifi auto connects for me, but I dropped them because they don't have any data (required for picture messages?).
Hmm this seems to be a kernel issue because cm10 uses aosp kernel and you also mentioned that HTC has acknowledged this problem which leads me to think the issue is with stock kernel. I have never had this issue but then again I never use stock kernel I use faux latest kernel and no issues with auto connection. So try flashing faux kernel on any sense based rom

I'm completely a noob when it comes to flashing kernels - can I just flash a new kernel and pick up right where I am with the ROM, or do I have to reflash the ROM after flashing a new kernel?
Thanks! I would LOVE to have this problem corrected!
Well I always flash a different kernel right after I flash a rom minimizes chances of boot loops and it's a lot faster to load up initially however you can flash a kernel right now on top of your current rom without a wipe but like I said the failure rate is higher from what I have noticed from past experiences or sometimes parts of the phone don't work the way they should (like wifi or bluetooth). Give it a shot if it doesn't work just wipe everything flash your rom and right after flash your kernel.

Oh always flash a kernel after you flash the rom not before it (otherwise the kernel in the rom will overwrite the kernel you flashed)

Thanks for all the advice, man! I'm going to try faux kernel, because that seems to be the best and most popular. There are some debates about what the best version is; got any advice on that?
Also, good grief! After a good few minutes of searching, I can't find the thread for faux kernel....

I have had no issues with this version (latest one I believe) along with speedrom7.8 you will be quite pleased. I do advise to put min cpu speed at 384 mhz and not 192 (which is default in faux kernel) to avoid random shutdowns /screen of death issues

Did it work?

Apparently not...
I flashed the kernel and cleared the Dalvik cache, (didn't reinstall the ROM) and it still isn't auto-connecting to the WiFi. I'm thinking that I'll clear the WiFi data, reflash the kernel, and see if that helps.
Thanks again for all your help so far!
--Edit--
Doesn't look like that worked, either. (sigh)
Just format everything except sd card flash your rom and then flash the kernel as this shouldn't be an issue with the phone heck I sometimes turn off wifi so it doesn't automatically connect if I don't need it lol

Are you sure faux kernel flashed right? And what rom are you running?

Yeah check inside system settings about phone and check what kernel you are on and post it in the thread it should look like the screen shot I have attached after flashing speed rom 7.8 and faux kernel.

My "About phone" looks like it says the same. Nothing seemed to have gone wrong with the kernel flash. Also, people have been talking about not being able to use Bluetooth w/ version 23 of Faux kernel, and needing to switch to an older one. I'm wondering about doing the same, because of the WiFi issues and the fact that I couldn't connect to a headset a few days ago.
Hmm I am using v22 so I don't know about that (I don't update something if I am getting what I need /want from it) and bluetooth works with v22

So am I using 22 or 23? I can't tell just from the number in the about phone menu.
(sigh) I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to reinstall the ROM from scratch. All the little nuances about your phone that you set up, you know? E-Mail updates schedules (I have 4 labels that I have different rules for), ringtones, etc. Not to mention, I barely slept last night, lol. Not something you want to do when you're tired.
Is there a WiFi config file that I could reset, or something along those lines?
Once again, thanks for all the help and suggestions.
So I tried out v19, 21 and 22 of faux kernel and no change. Note: all I did was load into recovery mode and install from zip using 4ext. I did not want to try a full wipe for the same reason mentioned by takingflight
I just thought of something: Do you need to be S-OFF in order to fully and/or successfully flash a kernel? I'm still S-ON.
Could this be the issue?
