WiFi Connection issues - HTC Amaze 4G

Hey, guys.
I'm having some WiFi woes. First (after some trouble) I installed the official OTA update to ICS via the bootloader. I had an issue where my phone would only connect to WiFi if I prompted it to. If I step outside the WiFi zone, or even walk into an area with a different WAP (like at work) it'll disconnect and won't connect again until I turn the WiFi off and then on again. Now, I've installed Project Butter Speed ROM 6.0, and I'm having the same issues. My old G2 would connect flawlessly whenever I got in range of a WiFi network - no prompt from me, just saw it and connected.
Couple more points:
* WiFi is set to always on, even when screen is off.
* On both ROMs, I've checked the "Best Wi-Fi performance" option in the wireless advanced settings. (Does that actually do anything?)
Thanks!
P.S.
I had a choice, here: Resurrect this old thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25303368&highlight=wifi#post25303368), or make a new one. Sorry if I've made the frowned upon choice.

I'm having the same problem with SpeedRom 7.8 are you getting the same problem and if not did you find a fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I live off of wifi and I hate turning it on and off!

I am on NRGZ Rom and faux kernel and I do not have this problem

Yeah, I'm using Speed Rom 7.8 on the stock kernel, and I'm still having the issue. I ended up going another route: I purchased some NFC tags online (link below), and programmed one using "NFC Task Launcher" to turn the WiFi off and back on again. Then, I attached the tag to a little stand where I keep my phone on my desk at work. This way, I just pass it over the tag, and in about 10-15 seconds, it reconnects; I don't have to manually do it. Not the best solution, but one that works for me until a more permanent solution is found.
I may actually attempt to write myself a little widget that I can hit on my homescreen to toggle the WiFi off and on again. If anyone knows of anything that does this already, please let me know. It connects to my home WiFi about 80% of the time. Right now, I'm just living with it.
I remember reading an article on T-Mobile's forums where people complained about this. Apparently, HTC confirmed that it was a firmware issue with the WiFi, but hasn't done a blasted thing about it! Really frustrates me; they make solid phones, but the way they handle their software is absurd! They don't release the source on an open-source platform, they don't give you the option for a Sense-free overlay, and they DON'T FIX THE ISSUES WITH THE PHONES THEY'VE ALREADY PRODUCED. Honestly, for as much as I love the build and camera on the Amaze, if the new Nexus is anything like it, I'm ditching HTC alltogether. They will have lost a customer permanently. I wish there was a way I could let them know.
Anyway, in case you want to check out my alternate method:
NFC Task Launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DMsImNvbS5qd3NvZnQubmZjYWN0aW9ubGF1bmNoZXIiXQ..
NFC Tags: http://www.amazon.com/PREFORMATTED-...UTF8&qid=1349358760&sr=8-11&keywords=nfc+tags
I might also add that you can do some pretty cool stuff with these tags. For instance, I also have another one on my desk at work that, when scanned, turns off WiFi and turns on GPS for my route home. Many people use it to connect Bluetooth devices, queue up music playlists, launch navigation, etc. There's some really neat stuff you can do; I'm hoping NFC sticks around for a while.
Also, one more quick note: Because I love the website, and because this does make a great little universal stand, here's the phone stand that I'm using: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/eb42/?srp=9
Let me know if you guys come up with some other good suggestions! I'm not looking to switch ROMs, because I REALLY like Speed Rom....
Thanks! :highfive:

Thanks for the awesome response. Really elaborate. That's a cool set up you got there. It wouldn't be as practical for me since I'm always one the move from one place to another at school. I was wondering if there is something that controls the wifi in the zip file that we would be able to pin point and swap it out with a rom that works. I tried out CM10 and the wifi auto connects for me, but I dropped them because they don't have any data (required for picture messages?).

Hmm this seems to be a kernel issue because cm10 uses aosp kernel and you also mentioned that HTC has acknowledged this problem which leads me to think the issue is with stock kernel. I have never had this issue but then again I never use stock kernel I use faux latest kernel and no issues with auto connection. So try flashing faux kernel on any sense based rom

I'm completely a noob when it comes to flashing kernels - can I just flash a new kernel and pick up right where I am with the ROM, or do I have to reflash the ROM after flashing a new kernel?
Thanks! I would LOVE to have this problem corrected!

Well I always flash a different kernel right after I flash a rom minimizes chances of boot loops and it's a lot faster to load up initially however you can flash a kernel right now on top of your current rom without a wipe but like I said the failure rate is higher from what I have noticed from past experiences or sometimes parts of the phone don't work the way they should (like wifi or bluetooth). Give it a shot if it doesn't work just wipe everything flash your rom and right after flash your kernel.

Oh always flash a kernel after you flash the rom not before it (otherwise the kernel in the rom will overwrite the kernel you flashed)

Thanks for all the advice, man! I'm going to try faux kernel, because that seems to be the best and most popular. There are some debates about what the best version is; got any advice on that?
Also, good grief! After a good few minutes of searching, I can't find the thread for faux kernel....

http://faux.androidro.ms/ruby-faux123-kernel-v022.zip
I have had no issues with this version (latest one I believe) along with speedrom7.8 you will be quite pleased. I do advise to put min cpu speed at 384 mhz and not 192 (which is default in faux kernel) to avoid random shutdowns /screen of death issues

Apparently not...
I flashed the kernel and cleared the Dalvik cache, (didn't reinstall the ROM) and it still isn't auto-connecting to the WiFi. I'm thinking that I'll clear the WiFi data, reflash the kernel, and see if that helps.
Thanks again for all your help so far!
--Edit--
Doesn't look like that worked, either. (sigh)

Just format everything except sd card flash your rom and then flash the kernel as this shouldn't be an issue with the phone heck I sometimes turn off wifi so it doesn't automatically connect if I don't need it lol

My "About phone" looks like it says the same. Nothing seemed to have gone wrong with the kernel flash. Also, people have been talking about not being able to use Bluetooth w/ version 23 of Faux kernel, and needing to switch to an older one. I'm wondering about doing the same, because of the WiFi issues and the fact that I couldn't connect to a headset a few days ago.

Hmm I am using v22 so I don't know about that (I don't update something if I am getting what I need /want from it) and bluetooth works with v22

So am I using 22 or 23? I can't tell just from the number in the about phone menu.
(sigh) I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to reinstall the ROM from scratch. All the little nuances about your phone that you set up, you know? E-Mail updates schedules (I have 4 labels that I have different rules for), ringtones, etc. Not to mention, I barely slept last night, lol. Not something you want to do when you're tired.
Is there a WiFi config file that I could reset, or something along those lines?
Once again, thanks for all the help and suggestions.

So I tried out v19, 21 and 22 of faux kernel and no change. Note: all I did was load into recovery mode and install from zip using 4ext. I did not want to try a full wipe for the same reason mentioned by takingflight

I just thought of something: Do you need to be S-OFF in order to fully and/or successfully flash a kernel? I'm still S-ON.
Could this be the issue?

Battery will not charge on cmx

So basically ever since I flashed cm10 I've been having weird issues with my battery. it takes forever to charge like 2 hours to get to 20‰ and it will not go past that.to make it worse if the phone dies the notification light blinks and the phone will not turn on for like a half an hour I understand that its still not a stable release but other people are not having these issues and the rom itself is BOSS

No, S-ON wont matter. Just wait for another build.

I wonder if this isn't some explicit form of kernel panic, maybe there some small relevant change in the kernel that is creating a conflict from with in the rom in regards to charging the battery or what if the rom has significant changes in it that are confusing the kernel and causing a malfunction in the charging process, what if its causing some weird from of bug that is directly related to polling the battery, maybe its overheating because the flux capacitor is out of juice!! In all my adventures flashing roms and kernels and what have you I have never seen any error specifcally stating kernel panic or kernel break and not likely to see one anytime soon due to the fact that the general idea is if it boots its fine. dear god i need to sober up....have you tried just flashing the kernel of a previous nightly incase there are changes that didnt take?

I've had CM on every phone I've had that it was available for but this issue is just getting to me BC I haven't really seen anyone complain about it any if the recent builds. Cyanogen Mod 10 issues

Hey guys,
a few days ago I rooted my device and installed Cyanogen 10 on my Sprint HTC Evo 4G LTE and I'm so happy I did. This device, which before was sluggish, annoying, kept freezing and loading, is now BLAZING fast, It's like I quadrupled my processor speed. I love it and am NEVER going back, Thank you CM10!
That said - there are a few minor issues that I'm still dealing with that I'd love this forum's help with
1. That error when you start up your phone, it's a little annoying and it's been around for so long, on every Evo 4G LTE running CM10, is it really that hard to fix? does any of the newer released (from the past week) fix this issue already?
2. Volume isn't loud enough, it use to be a lot louder both on the speaker and when listening to headphones, I tried installing BEATS again, and that made it about %2 louder, but it definitely use to be at least %30 louder than it is right now
3. I can't seem to get my external SD card mounted to USB when I connect the Evo to the computer. It mounts fine inside the device, I just don't have any options to choose the external card as the USB Drive when I connect it to my PC
4. Can't use the device to usb tether, where is that located? it use to be one of the options when I plugged the USB cable in but now there is only "USB DRIVE".
Thanks guys!
Hope on irc and grab the latest, it should fix every issue you noted.

Also I suggest you do a fresh install when going to the 10/25 build and if you're S-ON also flash the new kernel.

Problem running any custom kernels, rooted etc.

Title pretty much says it but just wondering if anyone has not been able to run custom kernels. It started with my attempt with Komodo etc., but I always get some form of screen flashes or massive FCs. Im am rooted with original 1.12 hboot. I have been able to successully load and run ROMs from Viper to AOKP, even CM10.1 but never able to run a custom kernel. I have wiped clean, reset and still no go. I am using the 2.2.1 TWRP so wondering if the newest TWRP would fix that ability? I know some of the EVO LTEs just wont run with a custom kernel but figured I would try.
Thanks in advance for any input.

I've had the same issue with Komodo. I'm S-OFF 1.19. I tried on the latest twrp, 2.3.3, and even on a tip re-flashed 2.3.1
I was able to boot after flashing with 2.3.1, sometimes...but it really wasn't stable enough to even try to use. Constant reboots, FC's, bootloops, etc
The device I'm having this issue on is an insurance replacement from asurion, the 4th one to be exact. i never had this issue on any of the previous devices...my first was new via preorder, that was stolen, and the first 2 refurbs were returned due to other hardware defects, although at least they could run a custom f***ing kernel.
as far as I've been able to tell nobody has found the issue that makes some devices not take to a custom kernel.

Thanks for the replies. I am S-OFF, current baseband etc. I haven't tried the voltage mod, but will look into that and come back for questions if necessary. If you have any tips on the voltage mods etc, feel free to pass them on. I have tried to use Goo Manager to download the newest TWRP but kept getting errors but haven't tried today. Will try to get the most recent on and look at voltage mods. Its not a huge deal, I get great battery life and its fast enough but I wanted to at least see if there was something specific that I have been missing to run the kernels. Thanks for all the replies!
The Komodo kernel worked only after updating TWRP to newest and I also had to use the voltage mod as neither would load without it. Great advice and for first time I am running custom kernel on top of PACMAN ROM. I tried capped at 1.7 then 2.1 both work but the 2.1 started to indicate some weird results within minutes of loading. I backed down to 1.9/384 and looks to be the sweet spot. Thanks again!

[Q] Wifi, Data not working after CM11 M3 update installed to Int HOX+

Hi,
I've had this issue when updating to any nightlies for quite some time now - when ever I update from the current nightly that I was using on my HOX+, the data and wifi seems to just not work. The Wifi would never turn on, and the data would just never work.
Does anyone know why this happens? I cant seem to get it working on the latest M3 snapshot either..
Have tried different recoveries, clean/dirty installs but it doesn't seem to work.
Thanks!
Well I'm running the M3 right this second on WiFi. Have you flashed the boot.img in the zip?

Actually it does, as at times the WiFi/ril modules will change size, or the "magic number" of the modules change, and so a new kernel needs to be flashed....

Also at time's either myself or thomy will push a change to the rom, for example recently a fix for ril was pushed, it didn't go into the kernel, but it did go into the device tree, with some changes to the ramdisk which are also in the device tree.....
