I am coming from a DX where TBH modded the NV files to use the stock hotspot application.
I was wondering if there has been any devs taking a look into this...
And by the way I DO NOT want to start a ethics war on tethering or not tethering...
Thank you
There's been threads with lots of useful information (and posts) within the last couple of weeks. You'll probably get more informative answers looking at those then asking people to repeat what they already said.

I have skimmed thru quite a few recent posts regarding tethering and I find none of them useful in answering my question. I see that many of the posts go on to get a smartass remark or two from someone who has not a clue about how to answer the question.
Kinda like what happened in this post.
So I would like a linky or a better answer.
Ohhhh, if you want a smartass answer, I could do far better....
That was only my polite, "look around the knowledge base because it's useful" answer that noobs seem to find insulting anyways.
If I really wanted to be insulting, I would tell you to RTFM . I help plenty of people with legitimate questions, feel free to look at my post history and see for yourself.
But really, I do agree the ways people say it tend to be rather blunt.
However, the overreactions to even sensible replies to search around are also just also just as bad, since there doesn't need to be a new posting always and some people just don't think before they make one and reminding them to do a little search I think helps (if done in a not so overly rude way). My initial post was not a slight against you but a word of advice that people will do what you just said, insult you and give you non-helpful replies.
IDK what kind of solution you are looking for, but there isn't a magical "Verizon will give you free unlimited tethering legitimately without extra cost option if you ask them really nicely" or a "I'll come right over to your house code and compile the most amazing tether app in the world that actually boosts your LTE speed beyond what Verizon gives you and does your homework when it's idle."
Instead of taking the defensive because someone asked if you looked around a little, perhaps clarifying your question in a way that shows that you actually searched (i.e. "I noticed there was this method to tether or that, but I don't really like those options") makes it clear to everyone you gave it an honest shot and also motivates people to want to help you more
It also keeps things on topic so you get the answer you want faster. Just for future reference.
I searched the TB forums and didn't really see anything on the subject. I only found
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082585
Maybe there's more in the general Android forums, though I didn't find much there either. I could just suck at searching.

I recommend using advanced search and "search by post" not by title. You'll get more relevant info that way. If you happen to be an opera mobile or desktop user, you can make a custom search from http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?f=940, by hold pressing on the search bar for that page for mobile or right clicking for the desktop. It will then add it to your other custom searches for easy access

No, because it's a different phone that was never fully rooted and it's the only phone mentioned, but it's worth talking about since it's the first threat that comes off as more than words (though it could still be regardless). Verizon can tell what you're doing far easier on it than other phones because you don't ever have full control of it on the droidx. If there's any phone that can detect if you're doing unauthorized tethering, it's going to be a phone that's locked down. People who buy moto get what they pay for.
Though someone did mention it somewhere in some topic on the thunderbolt forums about the droidx having ways to detect it, but it was just glossed over.
I never used stock hotspot app because I never even try apps with monthly charges. what's the point of checking it out and potentially getting hooked when I'm absolutely certain that I will NOT pay monthly charge for that. I'd rather switch back to T-mobile
with that said, I'm using wifi tether as I write this. it took me a while to configure it because it wouldn't work out of box but it's free and well worth the price!
I've been busy lately and havent kept up with this...so Verizon shut down the free tethering apps, like "wifi tether for root" and others?
Not to throw this thread off topic or anything I just wanted to know how you got the H and # key's confused in the thread title as they are quite far apart. Again, sorry to everyone just kind of a weird mistake.

Seems the Thunderbolt running gingerbread is the same way, although I reverted back to froyo for the time being so I cannot confirm what this article states.

Doesn't CM7 provide an integrated tethering solution? That should be undetectable to Verizon.
If they are baking something into the gingerbread update to detect tethering apps (pun not intended but welcome), it won't find its way into the CM7 code.

I doubt anyone on a T-bolt can confirm since we're still getting free hotspot. Unless they are allowing official hotspot use but blocking tethering apps.
I suppose that would make sense if they're trying to get people hooked on the feature.
Yareally thanks for the links. I don't know if you own a xoom but I have yet been able to get the search feature to work in the xda site. Maybe you could find a link for that as well and post it for me.
I am not currently at home with access to my laptop where I have full availability to use the advanced search feature. So thanks again for making these links available in ones easy to find location.
As for the #.. I use thumb keyboard on t#e xoom and it is t#e result of a long press on t#e h key. I think you should be proud if yourself for being able to figure out what I meant to type.
No offence to anyone but some times when you all jump on people asses there may be extenuating circumstances.
Sry for your troubles. But I hope you rest good at night knowing that you have helped one soul find some good info.
The search feature using a web browser or using the application for xda? I've heard the application has lots of issues for anyone period with the search and since many seem to use it, it's probably the reason for lots of duplicate posts. If you mean browsing it on an internet browser, that seems new to me as far as I know.
I've never used it, I just browse using opera mobile (with a link to the thunderbolt forum on my speed dial and the search tied into the search bar next to the url bar).
Opera mobile still has an unresolved issue with LTE being throttled (max of like 150KB/s), but it's not a deal breaker for me at least compared to using the stock browser in terms of getting to where I want to go quickly and its tie-ins to the desktop browser.
No worries about the thread. Internet makes it hard at times to interpret someone's replies anyways since words can be taken many ways, lol.
What's with the no help with my problem? I'm a smart man, and I rarely seek others for help because I feel I'm more capable then the rest. But when I hit a wall and I can't find my way to the other side I seek for the answers, and what a waste I should have known that to be. This big and wonderful community of very smart and talented individuals is a let down. I'm not trying to insult any one. I'm just making it known that there are people who truly seek help, and I know the answers are here, now it's a disgrace to see someone very patiently and generously seeking help only to be practically ignored till the thread slips down deeper into the forums to be lost and forgotten FOR GOOD. Here's my real question, what does it take to get answers? I'll be searching else where and on my own to figure it out by myself, then I'm going to do the opposite of you all, and I'm going to share my knowledge with someone who needs it just as bad as me. Because I am grateful, that is all.

Ya'll can say what you will, I may see it but I wont be reading it.
Good day!

I've already searched these forums and a lot of other places on the internet. I haven't found anything of help, if you think you could help me here is my thread with my question.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324844
I learned a long time ago to never be disappointed means to never expect anything, from anyone. Well it's a different case when there's a forum dedicated to QUESTIONS, and ANSWERS. I expect the knowledgeable ones who can help TO help.
@imsohawker: You need to be aware that there are over 4,000,000 members on this site. Of them, the Streak community is a tiny one, which is why it's located in the Low Activity and Legacy section of the site. Most Streak owners do not have AT&T, being in Europe and Asia. Of the ones that do have AT&T, you are the first I've seen that has a "pay as you go" plan. So if you aren't getting answers to your questions it's likely because your situation is so uncommon that no one here has any practical experience that can allow them to answer it.
I did in fact attempt to help you out, but there is only so much I can do, simply because I am not on a "pay as you go" plan through AT&T. I'm sorry. I wish I could be more helpful.
@markdexter: Be aware that when you created a username on XDA Developers you agreed to abide by the site's rules. The number one rule on the site is search before you post. If it's abundantly clear that the poster did not search before posting, e.g. asking how to root the Streak, you will get told to use the search engine. Usually I am nice enough to provide a link and mention using the search engine the next time, but for repeat offenders, I report their posts for violations of rule number 1.
While XDA members are rather knowledgeable people, at least for myself it's more gratifying to find out the answer yourself than it is to have it spoonfed to you.
Very well said. I know the statistics, and how low on them I am. I was hoping I could of at least had someone with the general know-how guide me, but as you said I'm the first you've seen with a "pay as you go" AT&T plan. Sorry for the outbursts! I was in the wrong to assume with such large numbers of knowledgeable folk that I'd get lucky enough to have someone fall in my lap with the answer I was looking for. Again thanks for the attempted help, which is better than none. Much appreciated!
I would get a new sim card to start, I also think it has something to do with pay as you go.
also have you tried changing the network type? On your dial pad, type *#*#4636#*#* then press phone information, then at the bottom, theres options try wcdma only, or gsm only Just go through them, worth a shot

I think it may have something to do with my pay as you go too, the first android phone I had bought unlocked (LG GW620) I had problems with my phone telling me my SIM wasn't inserted, I believe I resolved the problem but I forgot how, that was 2 phones ago but I know it would still occasionally tell me to insert my SIM, and my previous phone (unlocked sidekick lx) I had problems with losing service a lot, though sometimes it still showed I had service (bars) but I couldn't send messages or anything. So I'm almost concluding it's my SIM being a pay as you go SIM and it has restrictions maybe? I did however call AT&T's support and they have changed the IEMI of my sim to match my dell so I was hoping that would fix my issue but it hasn't, also I just tried the WCDMA only and that didn't work, and I think I already played with these settings but not through the dialer code. I'll try the other but I'm doubting it, but everything's worth a shot. Thanks
All I did was buy a cheap 10 gophone and used the sim outta that and activated it online...did the same for t-mobile....i was switching between the two cards to see which service I liked better..maybe try that....i had no issues what so ever. Btw my phone was orignally att locked which I got unlocked.

I read your original post as soon as you wrote it, as well as your others and found it interesting, but not having a clue as to what the problem was I did not chime in.
You may try a more general forum on XDA, as this is probably not a streak specific issue. Also, I have found the forums on At&t wireless's website to be surprisingly helpful.

I just got my Nook Tablet 2 days ago and am very frustrated by the lack of instruction that I am finding on the internet about using this.
I know how to buy books and to change settings. I have my gmail set up but I cannot figure out the internet portion of this. For some reason the facebook login page was made to be my homepage and I have tried to change it many times....didn't work through settings. Also, while in facebook, I do not see "chat" or who is currently online. Am I doing something wrong? I did not see fb as an app in the app store.
I also have been looking at your lists of apps that everyone has added to their NT. Again, I am frustrated because I do not know what any of you are talking about. I am no techie!
Please help me out here or this thing is going back.
Joyce
If you go over to the B&N website and click on support for the Nook Tablet, you will get links to a dedicated 200 page user manual in pdf. Hopefully that might answer some of your questions.
I have read the manual and it does not give specifics for fb.
I don't think chat is an option with the mobile fb site. Also, the fb app is not available through the market on the nook. There is a fb apk file in the "must have apps" thread here, but not sure if it has chat either.
One thing Barnes and Noble has over Amazon is an actual store.
If you take your NT to the store, someone there should be able to help you set it up the way you want.
In your case specifically, I would recommend ignoring postings about side loading and rooting until you have quite a bit of experience using the stock Nook. You will avoid a lot of frustration that way.
The Alps listed in the "must have" are pretty easy to install and use. Just go to that page from the browser on your nt and click on the link(s). You'll see a little arrow in your notification area, click that and choose the package installer. At some point you'll need to check to OK installing non-market apps. Once you've installed the apps, you can get to them by seaching from the nooks search function. I would recommed installing the Amazon market and buying wave launcher. It will let you access up to 12 apps by swiping a finger, and you can also access all your apps through an app drawer that way too.

I think the OP has received several helpful replies to their problem.
As for the forum itself, I'm new and my experience has been that each of my polite inquiries have received responses, including help side-loading, rooting, and issues with default ringtones.
Perhaps insulting those who are in no hurry to get on Skype and talk to someone they've never met, is a questionable approach. Just a thought.

"Meet" is probably the wrong word. In this sense it would be seeing a number of posts from a user to get a feel for how they deal with others, how knowledgable they are, etc.
You have no doubt seen posts from people which gave you a strong desire to have no interaction with them at all. That kind of thing.
In the very short time I've been watching these forums I've already seen several people jump in with an extremely demanding attitude. Like somehow they're entitled to everyone's immediate help.
Where does that come from? This isn't a Barnes & Noble site. These people aren't paid by B&N. Coming in demanding help seems like the wrong tack to take. If someone is looking to rant about the device they'd probably be more successful going into a B&N store.
Similarly, if you want detailed help on formatting epubs then perhaps a reader-specific forum might be more useful. Something like the Calibre forums maybe. Yes, the Nook Tablet is a reader but the vast majority of the posts here gear towards to the Android tablet side of the device--not the e-reader side.

Dude, maybe people don't want to take time out of their day to be your personal nook/android tutor when literally every single person has figured **** out themselves by either using the forum search function or using Google. If you used your time to do research instead of writing long rambling posts, you would already be way ahead of where you are now regarding knowledge. Seriously, everything you ever wanted to know about android is at your fingertips, you just need to put the work in yourself.

In regards to the op... he did seem to come into a technical forum to attemp to figure out very basic usage information. Read a few threads here and im sure youll pick up some things. I had to google a lot of acronyms and things last week to get up to speed. Kexec, cwm, etc. You'll pick it up. Just keep reading!
I think this has been one off the nicer forums on here, and and I'm proud to be a part of it.
In general augustusbot is 100% correct. This is a forum for modding not for basic usage, the problem though is in general there is no good manual for any android device. The fact that Barnes and Noble has physical stores is great, it is their job to show you how to use your device.

jdubr is just being polite. Nobody wants to talk to you because you behave like a b**t on this forum. The internet is a place full of normal people, but it has its fair share of we****s/a*****es. And we know very little about a person other than what we can discern from their online behaviour. From your prior posts, I personally find you a "***** ******** ******". And I believe most other people would feel the same way. That's why no one wants to talk to you. Try cooling off, then going through your previous posts and looking at them objectively. See if this happens in real life, or in other forums/personal interactions.
It's well and good saying you are well-liked. But based on the evidence we see, it seems to be the opposite. Nobody owes you information, or help. Anything anyone provides here is a gift, yet you demand it and complain when you don't get it.
It's true that information on forums isn't always very organised. But that's just the way they function. There ARE efforts to make it neater. But sometimes the developers/etc are too busy trying to figure out higher level problems to neaten up their work for a beginner to follow. In any case, they don't owe it to you, me, or anyone else.
I'm sure the developers would be more than happy to have people put up tutorial videos for them. But you have to ask nicely, and put in your own effort as well. The effort taken to develop/program/code is immense. To make things fair, how about putting in some of your own effort rather than adding to their load by asking them to simplify/explain everything in a beginner friendly manner?
To the OP, Joyce, there are various FB chat programs on the Android Market, you can try them instead of the official FB app. Also, there is some information on the Android Development Subforum about changing your screen dpi to 160, which may allow you to see the normal FB app on market. But that aspect is not fully firmed up yet, so you might want to wait a week or two till they have it stable.
As for "must have" apps, if you are new to Android, try downloading some of them which sound good, and try them for yourself. What others find good, may not work well for you. And part of the fun is exploring the Market to find apps that fit your purposes well, even if they aren't particularly popular. Try reading the descriptions and reviews on the Market for a quick feel of how the app works.
THREAD CLOSED.

Just read this article and hoping it's not true;

I hope its not true because I love my android devices, if it is true, I will not support google anymore. I will not pay someone that would obviously advocte for no guns and violate someones freedomes to pursue it.
So if anyone can confirm or deny it please post.....
Ironically, most of the news from that site and infowars.com are true.
BTW, if you are not like Google to mess around your search results, use other search engines or go to your fiream supplies stores directly. There are sites where you can buy firearms, and you still can go to the site directly.
I also not have much problem with Google/CIA, even I am using ANdroid phone and tablet. I always make sure that all the info in my devices are not sensitive or private.

I don't understand why you would patronize a company that you don't trust, advocates for the removal of our rights and is actively working toward that goal? I would rather jump ship to another OEM.... given whats going on these days politically this cannot be worked around or forgiven... if its true of course...
I went to shopper last night and was able to find any itemfor a weapon. Guess we will have to wait and see.
It's pretty bad that you can search "how to hide a body" and get results but you can't find a legal ammunition to buy.

I just did a search for ammo, and it came up with no results...only on the Google shopping though. When doing a google search, it found all kinds of stuff. I think they are just stating that their shopping division will no longer sell or advertise...that is fine, and their right, as long as they do not block searches, i don't have a problem with it. It is their right as a company not to sell or advertise a product or genre of products.
First off, Alex Jones is a nutcase. He takes facts and turns them into tin foil hat wearing, Koolaid drinking conspiracy theories. He's mostly to be disregarded.
However, Google is doing this. They have a "progressive" agenda and are well-known to engage in censorship... and have been for years. I'm not going to turn this into a political discussion, so you can research that on your own.
Bing doesn't censor ammo and weapon searches.
So Google choosing to no longer sell guns some how takes your rights away? Considering they are a businesses and have the RIGHT to do so...
You can still use Google to find places to buy guns. They just want no part of that. Sounds pretty damn American to me!
You want to protest them for expressing their own opinions and beliefs? That's not American *edit* Yea it is American to do that. You just look like an @$$

Google has never sold guns.
Before this thread goes any further, I have only one thing to say: what almost everyone has said so far about Google censoring ammunition and weapons has been taken too far out of context and does not accurately represent the truth. They have ONLY, and I repeat ONLY been censored from Google Shopping, not any regular Google search. Do a Google search on "ammunition" and the first place that pops up is a website where you can buy ammunition. Search "where to buy weapons" and you get a myriad of gun shops. This is in no way infringing upon your freedoms, they're a business and they can operate however they want. They also still allow you to search for those results in general search queries anyways, so they're not completely censoring them. It's just against their policies in Google Shopping to allow for weapons or ammunition to be advertised through their services, likely because they do not want to be affiliated with such types of businesses.
Furthermore, this has absolutely nothing to do with Android or the Droid Razr, so it doesn't even belong in this section. This has to do with Google and how you're upset with it over this decision.
I think Google is doing the right thing.
Only idiots want weapons for private use (sry, but it's true. Look how many people get shot in the USA and compare those numbers to any other country in the world)
Nevertheless: This has nothing to do with the razr. Maybe you should've posted this in the general section of the whole forum, not the general section of the razr forum.

Yeah, that's why I try to avoid political discussions on this forum... there's always that one guy who has to say something like this.
Google created and controls Android. Google indirectly receives money from our phone purchases. There's an obvious connections between our Razrs and Google.

Google created and controls Android. Google indirectly receives money from our phone purchases. There's an obvious connections between our Razrs and Google.

Google receives no money from our phone purchases, the manufacturers do... well, I guess they do now since they own Motorola, but generalizing to Android is not correct. They only make money from Motorola phone purchases. It doesn't mean that by buying Motorola phones we're supporting this decision, though. That's an inane conclusion to come to. Yes, we're supporting Google, but it does not immediately correspond to us supporting every single decision they make.
Well This is not a Droid RAZR topic and should have been posted else where in XDA. Locked
(Maybe this question needs to be somewhere else, if so, plz move it for me)
Wonder when these are coming to android...sure would be cooler than those 2d like black and white retro like ones....not that they're THAT ugly but still....im not on nokia anymore, i want a little color:beer:

Then by all means make them. Google gives the basics and it is up to the OEM to make them, but as we can never relay on them it falls to people to do ti themselves.
Any good?

Im a pc programmer, not smartphone.
Really one can never avoid having annoying people post useless comments just for being bored with their lives...
All i want to know is if somebody ALREADY made modified fonts for coloured emojis on android and (if they would be so kind) where i can get them, not a lecture on programming...sure everybody needs stuff, but we can't do everything for ourselves can we?
Some people choose to do different things, if you're a smartphone developer then most probably you don't make your own cod but you rely on game devs to make it for you (how shameless and selfish right?) And if you want a cod mod like hell you gonna go and disassemble the whole game just to mod some stuf, but you ask OTHER experienced modders and they, likewise, might rely on you to do something for smartphones....
So, if i ask a question i dont want somebody telling me it is fordbidden to want something from others, cause that's how social animals(FYI: human beings, as aristotle described us), live their WHOLE lives...it's society b***ch -.-

^^^ how not to address a senior moderator. ........wince.....cringe.. ouch!
Woo first I would watch how you speak to a mod. Next had you followed the rules you would have found the answer to your question.
And to answer your stupid comment. I at least try to do things myself before I ask for help and even then its not to have it done for me but to help me do it on my own.

Not really....perhaps i didnt explain myself well enough, so here's the situation:
-i HAVE emoji keyboard with coloured emoji buttons
-i CAN see emoji's cuz i got a modified font from the web, but they are blac and white and different from the iphone ones
What im looking for:
Another modified font (or fix, or mod, if you will) that will still allow me to see emojis, but the original ios looking ones (or at least some coloured ones).
So id like if someone shared with me their knowledge about this...

Dude...really...what is a mod? Someone that has been on the forum long enough to receive some priviledges as a recognized member of the forum, but not necessarily wiser than others. I apologize if i was too rough, i did not see that u were a "senior mod" as i am using the xda app, and had i seen it, my answer would probably had been the same or somewhat similar...
But, it turns out i DID follow the rules: i went looking for emojis, i got multiple "fixes" both on this forum and others, and i applied the best one: resulting in black and white emojis. They seem good enough, but i like the ios ones better, is it FORBIDDEN to ask questions on a questions thread?
is it FORBIDDEN to treat a moderator just like i would treat anybody else? U live in a democracy right?(i wouldnt want to be missing something here...)
But i dont want to have silly a fight (ive had thousands in life, and 10 times more on the web already), i just want to ask a questions on a questions thread, and get answers to THAT QUESTIONS on a question-and-answers thread (without having any mod go all crazy on me cuz hes senior).
Thank you for understanding....

Your not gonna find anything done like the ios does. Most things here avoid everything IOS. So if you really want something that important to you then your gonna have to dig in and do it.
as for your comment above have a read here

Listen mate, moderators give up their valuable time to try and keep things orderly, not for some kind of power trip.
Being rude/insulting people is against the rules.
As a member of a community you are bound by individual responsibility and mutual aid.
If we didn't follow the guide lines this forum would fall to pieces.
Just trying to divert a bad situation here
That's my contribution to this forum

Alright man i get what ure saying, but ive been a mod myself and i never treated people like they shouldnt ask...if i ever had something to tell them, i pmed them.
i know many things about a pc, and i help anybody who asks me stuff...from "how to start modding this/that" to "how to access my computer files". If the question is unresolved/hard to know for a normal person: i answer them.
If a question is stupid/already resolved multiple times/real easy to find on the web: i answer them first, then i tell them to look for easy stuff on the web cuz not everybody likes to waste their time answering questions that have already been answered and spread out to everyone.
I read the mods post, and i care to disagree with some stuff he wrote.
You see...xda may not be a democracy...it may be "just for developers"...but there are some flaws in this reasoning:
-xda, like any other site, is subject to the laws of democracy just of the country you live in. You may choose to establing an aggressive-moderation kind of "empire" here (which im not saying it is, nor that the senior moderator was aggressive, im just reasoning here) but on such a big scale as that of xda i hardly believe the founders of xda like to hold on to a site which is supposed to keep people(devs if you like the word) connected and at the same time they want to control peoples operations...i mean...developing is free itself and may cover any topic
-people arent born developers, knowledge isnt a fact, people learn stuff and then they become developers. You cant ban all developers from the site, cuz this site doesnt just deal with developing stuff, nor do developers grow on trees...
But if you want a site with people that know in detail how to build software for these devices or mod them in any way, then go ahead and filter the logins. Put up a questionnaire or something, ban every non developer you find....but seeing as this is clearly not this forums policy, obviously some statements the mod made in his speech were untrue, and peole liked only out of frustration. You see...the more is never the right....

Well if you looked at the people that thanked it instead of the number you will see that just about every mod agrees with it. We are working on a questionnaire for the Reg.
Now the rules here are simple and they are to be followed or people will be removed from the site. Plain and simple.
Now your question was answered. and this debate is pointless.
I have been more then understanding with your lack of respect and will end this here.
If you want something the way you want then it is up to you to make it happen. If you want help learning to do it then great. If not then good luck in your search.
More then understanding.....lack of respect....you guys really live in a glass castle.
I dont care if moderators thanked that, they probably did out of frustration or respect or they really believed it (amazingly). I believe i followed the rules and i did not offend anyone except for the "b***ch" part of my comment which was obviously intended as a joke not as a real insult.
If this forum was born for devs only, it isnt so anymore. I would really love to hear the opinion of the real moderators (the ones that own and pay for the servers and that mod the site and founded it, not the ones that help out those guy handle the forum).
Clear these posts or close the whole thread as it is no more useful filled with these comments, as no one will probably help out since a "senior mod superhero" has been unrighteously offended....please
