Safe mode - HTC EVO 3D

Was wondering how safe mode works for EVO 3d kernals I'm running nocturnal xplod xe using the custom anthrax kernal. Somehow I was able to get my phone into safe mode(no idea how). Since it has a safe mode, how would I take advantage of it?

For putting your phone in safe mode, turn off the phone, turn it back on . While it shows the htc splash screen hold volume button down and it should be in safe mode.
Nothing useful can be done from it IMO. It will only boot factory apps.
But the safe mode topic has already been covered a few times.

Ya its been covered. But safe mode is great. Say you overclock and you put apply on boot. Well if it didn't like the speed it would probably bootloop. Side mode allows you to get past that by only allowing the apps that came in the rom to run.

Thank you. Yea, I remember seeing something about it a while ago but could not find the posts after searching for about an hour.

More info please. Is cwm installed? How did you do hard reset? If all else fails, use rsd lite and flash sbf file. Make sure battery is charged.

You can flash the latest SBF and then just root it. Surprisingly, the stock moto ROM is very clean and fast. You can remove the Sprint apps via titanium backup.

new to photon would like some opinion on roms and rooting

i have looked over a few threads and i am not new at all to rooting or roms.but i was just wondering some ideas on whats good that everyone seems to like.i am coming from the htc 3dvo which was a great phone i just had some issues so i choose to try the photon out. one big thing i have noticed is how much better the radio is for the photon i can get 4g in my basement which is just crazy.also i am kinda confused is the bootloader unlocked because i saw some custom kernals but then i see the bootloader is looked? any ideas and info would be great
welcome. once teh shock of "how slow the dev forums are" wears off youll find things round these parts are fairly straight forward. the bootloader can be unlocked but you lose wimax.. so its a choice ytou need to make... its possible however to have roms and wimax.. just not kernels
In addition to what shabby posted, you can root without unlocking and have a bootstrap recovery (only works on AC power). All with 4g and running various root apps, deodex and theme, you just can't flash custom kernals or roms with custom kernals - that requires unlocking.
ok so basically if i want to use a kernal because of the bootloader i will lose 4g which i do not want to do.so is it possible to oc with out a kernal?i will say i will miss oc to 1.8 on my 3dvo.also is the one click root still good to use?

You must be unlocked to use Cwm. No unlock means boot strap recovery. Boot strap recovery only works when plugged in.

Yep, you have to choose between oc and 4g right now. The Alien rom has a thread with a way to unlock, flash cwm and rom, relock to get 4g back and claims the method should work for other roms, but I haven't tried it. Maybe someone else knows if it would work with an oc rom.
You could use bootstrap if you click reboot recovery in the app. No ac required. Btw alien isnt the only locked rom. Skinny4g works too.

ok so i am about to root and i see there 2 good ways to go either use terminal emulator or the click root does it matter which one? also after i root how to i get recovery then so i can flash a rom im ok with no oc so i dont need a unlocked boot loader but i do want to make nand backup and flash some roms and themes.i know i am missing something i think i am just so use to the htc 3dvo way which is why i am getting confused
No it doesn't matter which method you use. Once rooted, install bootstrap_signed.apk from the Bootstrap Recovery thread to get the bootstrap recovery.
KISS (Keep is simple s.....) I have been flashing/rooting phones for..........8+ years. I see no reason to root or miss with my Photon (Well, I did root the other day because I was bored). SPB 3D Shell, I organiaze panels and rename like I want, got enough speed and power to surf like I'm at my desk, can map to my home network and listen to music or watch movies in HD. hell, I even sleep with it!!!
Not getting any sexual love from it, but neither was I when I had a female next to me either!

TWRP or Clockwork Recovery for the 3D

What recovery do you think is better as of late?
And which one do you use on your 3D?
Sent from my EVO Titan 3D
For this choice, it all depends on what your phone can handle. I've been on clockwork since the Hero days and never deviated until I finally was able to put TWRP on.
I'm a sucker for themes, and when they said you could theme TWRP, I knew it was for me.
Twrp! The touch controls are awesome.

Clockwork has new touch controls now as well. While not as good as TWRP they are still touch enabled

TWRP features a touch screen, faster flashing, waaaaaaay faster backups and restores, and is overall better than clockworkmod.
However, some factors may stop you from using TWRP. It is buggy and support has ended for it, but I haven't encountered bugs so I don't see need for more support.
CWM has more features but tbh most of them aren't really useful. It is probably the most stable, so if you care about stability, CWM is for you. You'll still be stuck with hardware navigation (no touchscreen) and sloooow backups/restores.

I prefer TWRP. I'm not a fan of CWM recovery. I used CWM once on my Hero CDMA, but I never liked it.

Sure did. They have a whole write-up about it over on their website.
Cwm is stable with more features...more technical features...
I tried twrp.2.0...loved it specially the touch screen feature. but occasionally while doing nandroid it turned off my screen... I can't navigate.... I need to pull out my bat then redo process.. read same problem on some users too.. I will wait a little longer when its stable...

TWRP is better IMO.... updated when TWRP 2.0 came out but then went back to TWRP 1.1 ... i don know if it was just me but TWRP 1.1 is much faster then 2.0 luved the touch screen feature tho.....
Apparently some of Team Win will still be working on adding features to CWM. Development for TWRP has ended and although I preferred TWRP, CWM should start getting better while TWRP slowly dies off.

The easy way is to download ROM manager and once installed click on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". That's it you are back.
Yeah I love twrp 2.0. Works great for me, touch and super fast. I haven't encountered any bugs. However, I put it on my sisters phone and she gets the bug where screen goes black and battery must be pulled. Not sure why it'd happen to her and not me?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
2.0 is WAY faster than any previous builds, or any other recovery that I've ever used for that matter. i believe that it actually utilizes both cores. I've never had a single issue with 2.0, but of course there are others that have. i am very disappointed that they have stopped support but who knows what will pop up next because of that things they have done.
Trust me, I tried that. Didn't work. I was using CM7 when this all happened. Kind of put me in a bind until I manually flashed twrp. thats when i posted that. But then I deleted that PG100 bla bla whatever file out of my root, and I LOST MY RECOVERY AGAIN! I ripped some hair out of my head, then put the file back in root, reflashed, got my recovery back, then flashed SYNERGY, and ran clockwork from there. then flashed clockwork recovery just as you stated and then it worked. LOL. Guess thats why they refuse to call the cm7 a beta and not a stable huh?

I had similar problems you just need to upgrade to twrp 2.0 v0.1 it still has an issue where, in the instances it would normally turn the screen off it merely resets twrp to the home screen but other than that its fixed

Mean rom or viper rom!!!??? which one??!!

what is the difference between these two ics roms, which do you prefer, and if the evo 4g lte hasnt a removable battery, then people like us will def be bricking and going broke because, a battery pull is the only way to stop a freeze? please comment,
I'm bias of the first question, but to your second question, the hardware reset currently employed on the evo 3d (power + both volume up and volume down) will power down the evo 4g lte, much similar results of a battery pull, or pushing and holding the power button on a computer
that usually works, however, i just froze on viper rom and that didnt work, i HAD to remove battery or else bricked
im just saying, no removable battery is def going to be not good for rooters, because if you forget to check usb debugging and power plus volume buttons doesnt work... then what?.
oh didnt realize it was you, thank you so much for viper rom, it runs so great... im on h boot 1.5 s-on so i needed chads altered kernel to work, when it booted it was choppy, but after a few reboots and battery pulls its perfect... thank you so much so much appreciated, you guys are the best... you and mean rom ar ejust the best ever

You should ask around the Droid Razor forum's and see what they do but I'm sure the power volume reset should work. And USB debugging is automaticly checked in roms I believe.

This specific issue had some of us
worried in the evo 4G Lte thread. When the one first became available, Srg slaughter posted in their forum yo have people test the button combo to see if it just rebooted, or powered off the phone. I believe the results were that it reset, but you could get into recovery via toss method, which I could never achieve on the 3d. I've also heard people say that the button combo flat out powers down the phone...either way, it seems that this won't be an issue.

Thanks for your support man. And far as which ROM to choose. It's all personal preference, flash and try them both out for a few days and see which one fits the way you use your phone better.
I vote for Mean. Mikeyxda is almost too quick to get stuff fixed in the ROM. I have a hard time keeping up with his releases
I like both along with Clean, especially the Developer Edition (Senseless), but for the moment I prefer Mean with LeeDroid.
Both ROMs and developers are great. I'd choose one that has the options you like most.

[Q] Why is my Atrix taking so long to boot?

I have a Motorola Atrix 4G running latest official 4.5.141 ROM & rooted.
Bootloader is still locked.
Everything works when the phone is booted up except that it takes a really long time to boot up.
It happens at the AT&T boot screen. It will stay on that screen for a good 1-2 mins transiting from dim to bright before the stock lock screen is displayed.
At first I thought it was because I enabled the device & storage encryption but my friend's Atrix 4G with same setup & encryption booted up normally within 30 secs.
What could be wrong?
Does anyone have this experience?
Konker
I think its because you use stock rom. I would suggest unlock the bootloader and flash custom rom, and you will see significant difference of speed...
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Thanks for the suggestion but I hardly think that's the issue since my friend's Atrix has the exact same ROM & configuration & it's not experiencing this symptom. I've not read of other Atrix users having this problem with stock ROM.
Lastly, I'll lose device & SD card encryption with custom ROM if I'm not mistaken.

I performed a hard reset before setting up my phone.
I have not noticed the delay earlier so perhaps something in the ROM is acting up.
I've not unlocked the bootloader nor have CWM so I cannot backup the whole system. TitaniumBackup would not be sufficient to restore everything to the way I've set it up now.

Tried that but it didn't make any difference.
Thanks.
What if its something to do with the bootloader?
Reason I said that is because it stays on the AT&T Rethink Possible splash screen for a good 2 mins before loading the lock screen.
Up to this point in the boot sequence, I don't think the startup applications would make any impact to the boot time.
If its the bootloader, is there a way to reload the bootloader, assuming it is not a hardware issue.

Is your wife's Atrix running the stock ROM?
My friend has an identical model & ROM and we both removed similar AT&T apps.
However, his loads up to the lock screen in about 30 secs!

Do you know if unlocking the bootloader will cause me to lose the device & sd card encryption? I'm really dependent on that feature right now. Also, any idea which custom Atrix ROMs integrates the device & sd encryption from the stock ROM?
Thanks for your input so far.
