Ofcourse its gone suck.u got cpu scale set on proformance.change cpu scaling to on demand.that should fix the poor battery life.

What rom are you running?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA

Lol... You got a hour of screen time and
1 hour and 14 min of the CPU being at 1.8GHz! Like the previous poster said change your governor to on demand.

You can also try using Screen Filter, add it as a Widget set to 75% for normal use, then another Widget set to 25-30% for night time use. One press on either Widget will turn it off, I only have to do this in full sun.

Yep. That was it. Didn't remember setting it to smartassv2. Oh well live and learn.
Its much better now, but im still not getting the battery life id hoped for. Approx 2.5 hours of screen on time. Drains about 7% per hour when sleeping

Ouch, 7% per hour in standby? Mine only drains 1% per hour. Goes up to 3% if the "charge wakelock" issue pops up.
The first long test I ran when using Screen Filter @ 75% I drained to 5% and had 4 hours of screen time. I think my total run time was 15-16 hours.

Yep just confirmed had 94%. Reported to ensure deep sleep. Woke up 5.5 hours later and had 74 % remaining. So more like 4% per hour but that's still too much. Wtf????

How much screen on time did you have? how long has it been since you flashed your current set up?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
sorry forgot that shot....i rooted and flashed on either Sunday or Monday this week.....now i do use bluetooth for work so i'm thinking that kills the battery big time....
That is kind of good battery life considering you got almost four hours of screen on time. If your really worried then you should get one of the 3500 mah batteries. I have this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21589969. This battery gets me through at least a day and a half of heavy usage, and it works great for the price.
yeah i wasn't sure...i always keep reading about people getting 1.5-2 days on a battery...it's a new toy so hopefully when the excitement wears off that screen won't be on so much
That's exactly what will happen. You have new phone syndrome. I did too, when I first got my Galaxy S2. Except that I, unlike you, was running stock unrooted, and my battery life was more like 8 hours. I'm now running stock rooted with Entropy's kernel, plus I don't use my phone as much, and I get between 15 and 20 hours.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Yeah...with almost 4 hours screen on, and mostly on cell data (assumption based on your 2.x hours of wifi on) that isn't too horrible. Your total awake time is about an hour more than screen on, so assuming you had phone calls, music playing, or some other screen off background task to account for some of that, you're doing pretty good...

LOL so I'm guessing the best way to really conserve battery is to keep the screen off. Just outta curiousity (which I will test tonight after full charge) what is an acceptable drop rate when phone is fully asleep for say 8 hours or so. Like what 1-2% an hour?

I think the best I have seen reported is 0.5% per hour. Mine on wifi has been as good as about 0.8% per hour, but usually a little over 1%.

2%/hour idle drain I consider bad - that's why I haven't released a kernel since 1/2/2012 - I have a power management regression that pushes drain to a bit over 2%/hour when connected to wifi.
I strive for 0.5%/hour and get very close to that frequently when in a good signal area. In a weak signal area (like at my desk at work), it's around 1%/hour.
4.5%/hour or so is the idle drain you'll get if the phone is unable to enter deep sleep.

Battery life

What settings do you all use to maximize your battery life?

Screen brightness all the way down for starters. That will tremendously help your battery life.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk
0% Screen brightness unless I'm outside and need it, mostly black wallpaper, and only one homescreen with one widget (minimalistic text clock widget). Today has been a light use day, but I'm at 18 hours with an hour and a half screen on time and 46% battery left. Could not be happier, it's easily twice as good as my infuse.
On normal heavy use days I get about 16 hours with 4 hours of screen on time.

Buy juice defender and task full
Sent From My MAGNUM DROID XXLR
Do you guys recommend wifi overnight or staying on LTE?
Get Juice Defender. Just took a screenshot, absolutely no recharging in between. No messing with settings or anything. I just have my settings on aggressive.
I'm at 5hrs 27 min @ 1% screen time.

games, few phone calls to test the phone, local video playing, youtube stream, long 2 hours of backup & restore (500+ apps & games)
On heavy use my phone lasted 13 hours off the charger with 6 hours of screen time.

wifi use gets better battery life, if you're not charging during your sleep leave it on wifi.

ondemand in SetCPU and deep sleep for when the screen's off and use Wifi whenever possible to keep it from polling for data connection which is not nearly as strong for me.
Oh and I use Autostarts which is an app that lets you pick and choose which apps to not have run at phone start up and other times. This works better than Juice Defender (imho) because instead of killing processes, some of which just start right back up upon killage, Autostarts prevents the apps from running to begin with and essentially locks them from running other than when you call on them.
That's about it.
Used to have SetCPU set to performance but was getting tired of charging the phab two and sometimes three times a day.

It's 384 min by default. It's a setting you need to adjust yourself with a kernel that will allow you to do it, (like Da_g's, found here.)
5 hour screen time is great, but sucks to put a gorgeous super amoled screen at 1% brightness

I can set that with stock rooted. I kinda feel like it's a bit laggier when coming out of sleep, but that could just be a placebo effect.

[Q] High Screen Battery Usage Normal?

So I noticed that my Amaze has been reporting that my screen is using a very high amount of my battery under battery usage and I was wondering if this is average or this is abnormal usage?

Screen always uses a lot of battery power, but if you wanna reduce this, you can lower you brightness.
My screen always uses the bulk of my battery. Even with brightness almost all the way down. I had been getting about the same battery life as you with minimal usage. Then I bought a 1900mah Anker battery and get 14 hours with 50% still left.

Lol I don't use that either or ever take my sync off, I depend heavily on my emails, especially for school and my little phone fixing venture. :cyclops:
Please note that those values are relative. If for example wifi uses up more energy than the screen, the screen will show a lower % value although using the same amount of energy. So in one of the previous Screenshots I would be rather more concerned about my idle usage being higher than the screen usage

Battery drain a bit weird?

So since I can't get a hold of my phone right now, I'll explain with an illustration done in Photoshop

My battery graph goes a bit like this.
As you can see, the first green segment is the normal drain rate while my phone is in deep sleep. Say, if I restart the phone, and just leave it to sleep without touching it, the graph would go down at this rate. This rate is pretty good for me, usually a 1% can last 4 hours.
The blue segment is the drain rate while browsing with wifi. The drawing is only an approximate illustration, but needless to say this drain rate is much faster than the green drain rate. I can get 5 hours with wifi browsing, with equates to 1% every 3 minutes. It's not too bad I think.
The problem here is, after browsing (or doing anything) over wifi, the battery curve would go weird. When I'm done with browsing, I always turn wifi off. What I would expect was that the battery curve would immediately return to the normal deep sleep drain - the green line. And yes it should, because as CPUSpy shows, the phone deep sleeps perfectly. But the graph, instead, shows something of a "transition" curve - the red one as shown in the illustration. The drain in this period isn't as fast as the wifi rate (blue), but it is faster than than normal deep sleep drain (green). Only after some time will it return to the green rate.
So...what is causing that red curve?

Yes I did, but I thought having a wakelock would take away from deep sleep time? I usually wipe my CPUSpy stats and leave the phone to sleep for an hour, it would almost always come up as 99% deep sleep. But anyway, I did check again, and RILJ was at the top of partial wakelocks, at 16 mins after 16h. It isn't seem to be adding time though.
Why two threads within half an hour ? They're essentially about the same thing. You could easily have edited your OP and/or title in the thread you created ~26 mins before this one :-/

Dunno why CPUspy is reporting wrong, but the rilj wakelock was for long, hence the battery drained more. If you're looking for a solution, what I've read to solve that wakelock is to turn airplane mode, switch off mobile, switch it on and then turn airplane mode off....

It's hard to say
I will try to explain it with my bad English.
Assume battery capacity is 2000 mAh (I know it's 2100, 2000 is easier to calculate )
you use it down to 50% which means 1000 mAh, and screen took 800 mAh, so let's say, screen took 80% battery within this 1000 mAh.
And then you put it in stand by for few hours for example let's say 5 hours and it took 1% for hour, so 5% in total
After alll, battery has been drained 55%, means , 2000 * 0.55 is 1100 mAh, within this 1100 mAh, screen used 1000 mAh according to previous calculation, so, after 5 hours of stand by, screen usage should be from 80% down to (800/1100) = 72%.
So, if your screen battery usage is high and you stop screen on, with time passing on, it should be decrease screen battery usage percentage.
Alright, I don't know what I am talking about...
