HI. The phone is rooted with CheckRom RevolutionHD3.1.1 and Hellcat kernel 2.6.35. I am searching for a solution on the following issue:
I am unable to secure (lock screen) with a pin/pw/or pattern.
Action done: In settings->location &security->setup screen lock .... (I select appropriate option to secure with either pin/pattern/pw (tried it all)..
Test #1: reboot phone
Test #2: screen lock (15sec, 1m, etc).. leave the phone idle
Test #3: downloaded Widget Locker (select advance settings to 'retain system keyguard')
All tested and have failed to request a PIN # or Pattern to access the phone.
The guy who sold me this phone said it is due to the phone being rooted/rom?! Is this true?? IF yes, is there a fix to this issue?

Did you get phone with that ROM installed already?
Maybe try to wipe data and reflash the ROM clean and fresh (i.e. also format /system in CWM before applying the .ZIP to install the ROM).
Yes, I rec'd phone with that ROM installed.
Also, this is all new to me (switched from Iphone Jailbreak world to Android App).
Is there a site with simple instructions on how to restore back to original w/o bricking the phone (unsure if its the same as iphone)? Searched all youtube, and so far non-english speakers (italian vids). Other US vids isn't too clear with instructions.
Also, there's so many ROMs and Kernels to choose from.. Which one is the best one out there that is stable? Unsure if switching ROMs will damage the system so wanted to make sure I'm doing this right.

This thread should serve for all stock ROM needs, IIRC also holds the (PC) program ("Odin") used to flash the ROMs:

I hear you on the iOS->Android transition, was the same me.
As long as you stick to a few simple rules (also outlined in the thread above) you can't really brick the S2.
Just never break the bootloaders, as long as the bootloaders are OK, you can always go to download mode and flash a new stock ROM.
"Download Mode" is kind of what "DFU Mode" is on the iPhone - just way more reliable

when I reset my Optimus One with VolDown, Power + Home something got messed up and I received a phone where the desktop is not starting any longer.
After the above reset the setup screen appears where I can choose my language etc, but at the last step I get a force close message for the Setup Wizard every single time. When I then force close, the screen goes dark except for the status bar on the top.
After a while the phone autolocks and I can see the lock screen with moving grass and time etc. When I unlock, again the black screen with only the status bar on top.
The phone receives SMS messages and calls and shows the appropriate screen, just no desktop to choose any apps to start. I can even long press home and then get the recent apps screen with no apps to start.
Can someone help me to get my phone functional again?

seems like problem with your launcher app. use adb push command to push new launcher in your phone.

Yes that would be a good idea if I could enable USB debug. But I cannot get to the settings where I could enable USB debug, therefore ADB push is not a possible option for me.
u can log into your google account on desktop and install any launcher app from playstore , it will automatically get installed on your cell if your data is on.

Thanks again for ur input: But the VolDown Menu Power thing did a complete reset and therefore the phone is completely virgin, i.e. no google account is set-up.
While during initial boot the setup wizard comes up, I get the error message:
"The application Setup Wizard (process.com.android.setupwizard) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
So I cannot setup a google account for this phone.
u may be able to go to contacts screen while on call. there u will have an option to add google account. try this n if this doesn't work try resetting your phone again.
Thank you! That did it! I called myself with another phone and during the call via the menu button I was able to go into the account section and add an account. Then the play store updated (some time is needed for registration to take hold on the play store web site) and then I installed the Go launcher via web install.
After I got access to the launcher, I immediately activated USB debugging in Settings > Application Settings > Development and also install from unknnown sources in Application Settings.
I wrote these details so that people with the same problem of corrupted launcher or setup wizard know what to do.
BTW before I tried numerous phone resets but none solved the problem.
Now I still have the following problem: To root a reset is suggested to have a clean file system. A reset however again gives me the above problem. How can I break that vicious cycle?

No need of reset or so, just root and install clockworkmod recovery via ROM manager app, choose optimus 1 old baseband even if u r on new coz the recovery for old baseband is much more stable.
NOTE:-
do not choose to boot into recovery from ROM manager,u might end up at emergency mode. instead use the key combo to enter into recovery.
don't choose to factory reset from phone menu once u have installed custom recovery, instead do that from recovery.

There is only one problem, possibly because I did not get your advice about old baseband in time: Cannot make or receive calls/texts, but I am being asked for SIM PIN and the phone shows the carrier ID in notifications.
My phone has the 20d baseband - is that the problem? Do I need to upgrade to 20g or would that not matter?

OK, I flashed the 20G baseband and the problems are now history. I can make an receive calls.
There was a problem when flashing: The phone did not reboot into recovery mode. I had to do that manually and disable the LG modem. Then when the process was done I the phone showed 20G baseband, but no IMEI and network. I solved that by using the saved NV2 file in a subdirectory of the LGMDP.exe and the NV Restore button on the program icon bar.
Now everything is fine.

so I recently uninstalled safestrap and unrooted my phone because I was planning on selling it. after I did all that I booted back into the stock rom and did a data factory reset...after I need that the problems started.
now everytime I boot, the setup wizard app force closes. so I cant set up my phone by choosing my language or telling it my name...all that good stuff. and because of that problem I cant press my home button to go to my homescreen. I have to go to make settings and way for the play store to say I have updates. install a launcher and use it just by pressing the back button.
so what I was going to do was re root, install safestrap and figure out how to reflash a stock rom or upgrade to jb. but when I install safestrap and reboot. nothing happens. it skips right passed the safestrap screen and just boots normally..
so my question is, what can I do to fix this?? I need this fix bye tomorrow night and need the money for bills, so somebody please enlighten me lol

I have an Xperia X10 with Wolfbreak 7 Stock (2.3.3) installed and from time to time I am experiencing the same problem. My wife, with the same hardware and software has the same:
The phone, after some time working perfectly, suddenly loses the screen lock and the options “silence mode” and “plane mode” when the start button is pressed and held (only “shutdown” and “restart” are available).
The only way I found to correct that is the factory reset. The problem is I have to configure my accounts again and reinstall all the downloadable apps I use.
Can anybody help me? Is there any correction I could install on my phone or could I use a recovery function to make this process easier?

Hello sir. I am in a big trauble with my samsung galaxy E120 k. It is rooted and running in cwm recovery. As it is a korian phone there are a few number of custom rom i found but non of them fully stable and 100% bug free. So i am running with stock rom with variety of customization by xposed module. But suddenly yesterday my lockscreen has vaniahed!! Not only this, in addition with this in every boot bluetooth automatically goes on and screen time out seted at 10 minute and most serious peoblem is powwr menu also vanished , holding power button leads to switch off directly instead of appear power menu where reboot, user profile, shutdown are suppose to listed. I can not solve this even after fully wiped data, reset factory setting and restored previously backuped stock rom. Nothing works. I tried every possible way i known. I searched google a huge bt got nothing.
Now plz plz plz anyone help how can i get rid of these problem. It is very urgent coz i im gonna sell this **** after resolve the problem. Plz anyone help me. I will be very very greatful to u. Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english.
