Problem installing new rom - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi first I want to say that i'm not a noob, I already rooted my streak, installed streakdroid, power rom and longhorn 2.2 (currently using). my problem is, I want to update to longhorn 2.5, so I downloaded the zip put it on root of sd, reboot in recovery, update from zip and the setup stop right after the ''opening package'' and I get back to the top menu in recovery. I tried with an other rom and I still have the same problem... any idea on what i'm doing wrong?
Thanks!

pull the SD card and mount in a PC card adapter and do a scandisk on it.
Reflash streakmod recovery

try another recovery. i wonder what yo did to install longhorn 2.2?

actually that's the reason of my question, I flashed several rom and now I can't... weird.. but I'll try scanning my SD

Did the scan nothing has changed...

It may be that you need to copy all of the contents of your SD card to another location (backup) then re-Format the SD card. after it is reformatted, copy back the files and try again. I have had to Format my SD card a few times to keep it running smoothly.

yeah well i'm really stock right now I flashed my sd and even tried on an other one and it still doesn't work... it still stop after the opening package..

if it can help I filmed the steps from recovery to show where it freeze. and yes the screen is reversed but you can clearly see that it does not upgrade to longhorn 2.5 (a the end you see that i'm still on 2.2 v1)
http://youtu.be/SvpG1SKhE40

Whats your ROM version?
I have tryed to run Longhorn 2.5 under ROM 406 but it doesnt started up even after factory reset ... so I flashed it to 407 and wiped dalvik cash, reflashed Longhorn and it works pretty fine
Or
You might use Streakflesh to fully flash your device to the standart ROM as it was before, and then download ROM 407, amss and dsp files, and flash them using fastboot.
Well its all what i have done to get my streak work with Longhorn 2.5 hope it will help u2

ok I was on 406 so I flashed 407. I see the olleh boot screen got android 2.3.3 fine. I reflashed streak recovery tryed to flash longhorn 2.5 I still have the same problem, opening package then stop...
for the second part I want to know, the standart rom I just need to look for a dell rom 2.2 flash it with fastboot then reflash with 407, amss and dsp? is there any specific amss and dsp file I should get since I already flashed those recommanded for streakdroid (I think DJSteve did them)
ps: thanks for also answering my last resort thread

ok I'm really stock... downgraded to original rom on 2.2.1 re-did everything after the opening package nothing works... is it possible to install a costum rom with fasboot only?
I<m really out of ideas I don't know what to do...

That's it i'm desperate... I tried with an other sd card same thing happening

Finally I ended up being able to flash a custom rom again. I did a factory recovery and get back to rogers android 2.2 FW, flashed streakmod and installed olleh, did a factory reset from phone menu, put custom rom on sd, reflashed streakmod along with amss dsp1 and finally update from zip on sd in recovery and voila it worked.. weird but anyway I'm happy it's working now!
thanks to all for you help! and an awesome thanks to Rocker19943!!

Hi,
I have an issue installing Longhorn 2.8.
My knowledge is limited to use of flashboot, and installing 407 Olleh.
I have this Olleh, and then installed Streakmod recovery (0.3.8), rooted with superuser.zip, made nandroid backups, and tried to follow: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355878
(where I can't post...)
what I get is: [
(...)
Opening update package Longhorn_2.8.zip
E: Can't open /sdcard/Longhorn_2.8.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted
]
I tried "wipe data/ factory reset", also the factory reset (after a reboot), wipe cache partition, wipe dalbik cache, fixed premissions
still the same result
Could it be due to limited space (200MB) left on SD card (4GB size)?
in this case how do I remove old nandroid backups?
thanks

Can't boot into clockwork recovery

Ok so i downloaded rom manager and selected the top option flash clockworkmod recovery and picked my phone ( im already rooted by using the one step click root) and then i picked install rom from SD card and picked my room (which is Bi-winning v3) and my phone turned off and rebooted and went into the samsung recovery screen i tried to reinstall packages but gave me a error , i even tried the "all clockworkmod" recoveries and no luck same thing happens boots me up to the samsung recovery.
Does any one know what am doing wrong or what i can do to fix this problem?? thanks in advance and im still on my stock android os have't changed anything.
First, you need to start with a clean SD card. Then, open ROM Manager, flash cwr etc. etc. When it is finished downloading, power off the phone and reboot into recovery. From there (this is where the clean SD card is needed) then hit "reinstall packages, then hit reboot. This should bring up the iconic green text. reply if there are any problems.

Is not very clear to me. Did you flash your phone previously? have you done ODIN, kies, etc? have you tried this?

-Re-install packages through stock recovery.
For some reason Rom Manager is not flashing CWR right. I couldn't get it to stick for hours. Just kept rebooting into normal load.
Follow the instructions above and you should be good to go. The 1.72mb update.zip should give you root and CWR

Im not sure how to use odin and what does it do ?? and i read the the topic you linked and seems like im not the only one having problems
Just download that update.zip he referenced (that I put there), and flash it.. instead of using Rom Manager.
it will root and install CWR for you.
I need to update my guides.

i highly suggest you learn how to use ODIN in the Vibrant Bible. If you're doing anything that has to do with rooting and flashing your phone, be sure you know how to revert back to stock. You WILL NEED TO at some point or another or find out what if feels like to own a brick.

[Q] recovery is screwed [FIXED] | CM7 error "Can't open /sdcard/beta.zip" [FIXED]
Hello everyone,
**fixed - "fastboot -w" after SBF install of 2.3.4 made the difference for me with "Installation Aborted" . I also formatted my microSD in a card reader.
**update - it seems I can't flash anything in recovery, not even a stock rom in .zip format. I can wipe and factory restore but still the problem is there.
Recovery mode fixed. This happens on both internal and external SD's. Still can't install CM7 due to error below...
"Can't open /emmc/beta.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted"
------------------------
"Can't open /sdcard/beta.zip

Its a Bell Atrix gsm unlocked on Rogers wireless, rooted & unlocked. Any help would be appreciated.
I don't say this to be a ass, I know you're just asking a question and want help... so this is not only for you, but everyone else.
FOR THE MILLIONTH F*CKING TIME PEOPLE, YOU HAVE TO DELETE "INSTALL-RECOVERY.SH" @ /SYSTEM/ETC, BEFORE YOU INSTALL A NEW VERSION OF CWM RECOVERY!!!!!!!!
This is all over every single CWM thread, old & new. This exact same question / problem, and exact sme answer. PLEASE FREAKING SEARCH BEFORE YOU POST A USELESS THREAD.
p.s. sorry for freaking out on you, nothing personal. I hope this fixes your problem.

Thanks for the freak out/help! I actually did search my error on google with xda in my search inquiry. Guess I didn't search as hard. I came from a Motorola milestone and working on an atrix is completely different.
Ok so recovery works now thanks to Swiftks. However i'm still receiving the same install error... from both internal and external SD
"Can't open /emmc/beta.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted"
Only idea I have would be to reformat SD and I'm just grasping here sounds like corrupt memory

I've formatted both internal and external SD's, wiped and factory reset it too. Also downloaded beta.zip again, Still same the same error.
Can u boot at all?! try reflashing recovery through rom manager

Connect the phone in usb mass storage mode, to a win pc, than run scandisk on both cards, and format from pc, it should work. Is not make a sbf flash with pudding and the 2.3.4 system, after that fastboot flash romracer recovery. Copy file to sdcard and install from recovery. I had the same issue and this fixed it.

It seems there is not a full bell/intl sbf with pudding. Have you had official 2.3.4 on your phone (ota/sbf) or only 2.2 and than pudding?
I've just tried the int 2.2.2 sbf french [so no longer on 2.3.4] still have the same issue after root and bootloader unlock using romracer's latest CWM. Best part is i've downloaded the ota [ Blur_Version.45.2.17.MB860.BellMobility.en.CA ] for 2.3.4 GB Bell to install. When I click on about -> system updates, it says "check for update was not available at this time. Try again later"
Guess i'll never have good luck on this platform
So today I went from Bell 2.3.4 to a french SBF [both]:
Branding: Retail France
Version: 2.1.1 Full
Android Version: 2.2.2.
Branding: Retail France
Version: 2.1.3 Full
Android Version: 2.2.2
Both I've rooted and unlocked and still no dice, just now I'm stuck on 2.2.2. I've once again tried to install this [ Blur_Version.45.2.17.MB860.BellMobility.en.CA.zip <--- 2.3.4 GB Bell from Motorola for microSD install ] System update says.. won't update, says it's already updated! Oh yes and with romracer's latest CWM I still can't install zip from SD's both internal and external on either french roms. Same error "installation aborted"
I'm not sure what to try next...
**update - I was able to get back onto 2.3.4 via this SBF [ 1FF-olympus_emara-user-2.3.4-4.5.2A-74_OLE-26-release-keys-signed-MERetail-06.sbf ]
still can't flash any kernal or rom or anything on this SBF. I keep getting installation aborted in CWM.

Don't flash a 2.2 sbf after the 2.3 or you will make a hardbrick. Have you done a fastboot -w after sbf?
no I haven't done "fastboot -w" should I? I've gone back and forth between several 2.2 and 2.3's still have yet to brick.

Lol, so weird, probably all have pudding. Uhm, yet so sbf than fastboot -w and try what I suggested over pm.
Success!!!
"fastboot -w" after SBF install of 2.3.4 made the difference for me. I also formatted my microSD in a card reader.
Now I can install any rom of my choice!
Thanks crnkoj for helping me through this and not giving up.
Ye, np man, probably next time if this happens just try fastboot -w again

Problem with CM9

Hey guys, so I downloaded cm9 and tried to install it on my phone.
I got it from this link and also followed the video tutorial there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500234
I had rooted my phone and had CWM recovery v5.0.2.6
Now when I try to reboot, there is just an blue screen.
I did exactly like in the video, I tried 2 times. Still it didn`t work. Please help. Could someone provide any step by step instructions other than the video?
Thanks.
I think you needed to use with CWM 5+
Try to get back into CWM and root your old ROM.
I am very bad at this... So I dont really know how to do that... could you provide any steps or an tutorial?
Edit:well I tried to format sd card and system but nothing. Could someone provide a link to gingerbread 2.3.5 and a way Icould put it on my phone? Also, could I do anything with samsung kies?

NO NO. Don't use kies. Kies sucks a lot. Search the developer forum for "clockworkmod 5" flash it normally (I suppose you already know how-to since you have CWM4) after getting CWM5, flash ICS/CM9 Normally. no need to flash GB

Ughh I forgot to root my phone right after flashing. So I installed CWM before rooting.. how do I root now? And also I think it is still not working. The phone has been blue for about 2 minutes now. I followed the video exactly like it was.
EDIT: damn... so after getting the blue screen again I thought of going back to normal ver and maybe some other custom ROM... but guess what.... It doesnt work anymore... I did just like before.Went into download, used ODIN to download 2.3.5 french ver to my phone, odin says PASS. But last time It had booted correctly by 4:40 or so. This time like 10 minutes have passed and still rebooting. What to do now?
EDIT2: Am I allowed to make a new thread since the problem is not with cm9 anymore?
here, check this out:

i dont think you need to root it before flashing this (i didnt)
i just flashed this over the stock rom (non rooted) and then flashed cm7.2
i too had such problems but dont worry flash some stock rom with odin then it wont boot so remove your battery and place it again.now go to stock recovery wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition then reboot.then use cwm 5 to flash cm 9.

X10 mini (E10) bootlooping after Rom flash

Hello guys,
I've got an X10mini (E10) (second hand but should not branded)
I'm actually stucked in a bootloop. It happened after I tried flashing the miniCM7 ROM with CWM.
I've tried the wipe data/factory reset frome CWM but nothing happened
I've tried the recovery option from my previous backup
Nothing
I've tried reflashing the Stock Rom (found in one of Xda-developers thread)
And I still got a bootloop (with the Sony Ericson logo)
Could anyone help me? =)

Why don't you try a repair with SEUS or PC Companion, that will get you back to original.
You said you did wipe data/factory reset, but did you wipe cache and dalvick-cache too (second one in advanced menu in CWM), because they're filled with useless junk from your old ROM, causing many errors.

You don't have much choice i suppose, i'll give you the download link in a pm
Just download it, put it in the firmwares subfolder where flashtool is installed and flash it to your phone, it will take a while because it flashes everything (kernel and rom), but i hope it will help you

I saw your thread.
I also have an x10 Mini and got stuck in a bootloop (colors swishing around on screen). I rooted, installed xrecovery - what shows up in the screen is cwm recovery v 5,0,2,8. I unlocked the boot loader, flashed this Kernel using flash tool (an older version): U20_nAa-14_2.6.29.6-nAa-14.ftf I tried to downloand nAa 11 but 14 kept coming up, so I put that in the firmware file along with the stock Kernel. I forgot to install the drivers, but the flash tool said it was successful. After disconnecting and starting the phone "Ana" words not the symbol came up and the boot loop began. Alternatively, on start up, I can get into cwm recovery. I didn't save the rom or google app zip on my sd card as I assumed I could that after flashing the Kernel, but the bootloop makes impossible
My goal is to install Android Fire 2.3.
I would really appreciate any guidance.

Connect your phone to your PC using the usb-cable
Boot into CWm (you say you can)
Go into Mounts and Storage
Choose USB-Mass storage
You should be able to access the sd-card from your pc now and copy the ROM and maybe Gapps.

Worked like a charm!. Thank you very much. I went for mini cm 7 as it seemed the most stable. thanks for your help.
just need to get the sd card to mount and I am all set. Do you have any ideas why I can't get it to mount?

I don't know, apparently it worked fine when you connected it to your pc...
Maybe you could pull all your files off the sd-card to your pc, boot into cwm and format the sd-card (in mounts and storage), then reboot into the rom.
If that's all successful, put the files back on your sd-card.

What would happen if I select "apply update from sd card". This is the second option under CWM recovery.
Should I restore from Nanadroid. i s this necessary?
Could partitioning the sd card help? Thanks again!

The 'Apply Update.zip' does exactly the same thing as the 'Install zip from sd-card', but the first option only works for zip-files named 'update.zip' in the root of your sd-card, the second option will let you browse the sd-card and select a zip-file with any name. The second option is the one you use to install your ROM.
Restoring from nandroid, just fills your internal phone-memory with the old stuff you had in there, it won't affect your sd-card, other than that it reads the nandroid from that sd-card.
Your sd-card needs to be formatted with the fat-filesystem to work properly, so partitioning or not makes not much of a difference, only that the available space for your stuff (music, photo's, etc.) is less because the other partitions take up space too.
If you can flash your ROM in CWM from sd-card I don't really see any problem with your sd-card.
worked like a charm. many thanks!

[Q] Mount internal or ext SD card from Recovery

Hi guys,
I basically wiped my phone and completely forgot to copy the ROM I wanted to flash into my ext SD card. Now, the phone has no ROM to boot into and I need to be able to mount it onto Windows from within the recovery to be able to do it. I'm running CWM 6.0.2.7
Has anyone ever done this? What should I do?
Thanks
Wipe data doesn't mean format (like PC) it's just a factory reset
you can flash any official FW for your device by Odin
So it isn't possible for Windows to detect the phone in any way so I can copy the ROM into it?
It's possible by using ADB and push it
but why you don't boot up your device and copy it?
Use adb to push the file onto the card. Or remove ext. SD card and use a reader to copy it over.
Here is a good adb interface, it has easy push/pull where you just supply the two file paths and hit go,

Thanks for the prompt replies everyone.
I just re-flashed an original FW through Odin, rooted it back, re-installed CWM Recovery and now tried to flash a new rom, in this case, Foxhound and after it tries to reboot it comes back into CWM always... it never boots into the ROM..
Anyone has any clue why this would be happening?

The ROM? Just did and the same thing happens, boots up to Samsun Galaxy logo, then that "eye" logo then reboots again into CWM. At all times.
I just installed Omega just to try it out and it works, boots into the ROM, with Foxhound it doesn't even reach the Foxhound Logo, it reboots and goes back to CWM... Any ideas? I can't post in the Foxhound thread due to lack of posts
Flash stock Rom, and allow it to boot up properly before you do anything else....did you do that?

Yes, two times already. Then rooted, then flashed CWM Recovery then wiped data etc, flashed foxhound and same thing happens. Tried Omega and it boots into it, it's only Foxhound and I really wanted to try it...
I'm sorry this thread has derailed into another issue but thought it wasn't worth cluttering with yet another thread.
Is it possible to shut down the phone from CWM Recovery aside from doing a battery pull?
Could be a bad download. Try downloading again.
