F**K! I deleted build.prop... and rebooted - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Well, title says it all.. I was messing around with build.prop thought I had successfully pushed new build.prop to my prime and well yeah its not booting..
I am currently rooted
Is their anything I can do to get my prime back working?
I can access adb but if I try and get root with "su" I get "segmentation fault", all I need to do is rename "/system/build.prop2" to "/system/build.prop" but I can't get permissions!! GRR
I have also copied the build.prop file to the internal sd card and tried to copy it to system but still need to have root permissions!
Please, any ideas?

I can't get root in adb, to then mount the system writeable as I get a error "Segmentation fault", but I can access adb

what causes the seg fault? when you try and 'su'?
At the very worst, you should be able to put the official firmware on your SD card and then boot into stock recovery.. but if you can get into stock recovery, see if you can just do a wipe/restore.

Yeah if I try and type "su" and get root I get the segmentation fault
This firmware couldn't brick my prime could it?
And no, I can't get into recovery, I get an android with a big red explanation mark

Why do people keep messing with build.prop? Most do it just to play some games. It always lead to issues such as this.
Good luck getting it up and running. Check out the system dump thread in developement and see if you can adb the file into your prime.

Try this
No adb required

Thats weird. Recovery was part of boot loader and build.prop part of rom. It shouldnt have affected recovery. Unless i guess you unlocked the bootloader too.

Sure. This.
QUOTE=Gage_Hero;23590618]My wifi works pretty good after some build.prop tweaks, i would suggest that before modding the tf201. Basically, i added net.tcp.buffersize.wifi with some values and net.tcp.buffersize.umts with the same values 4096 ,87380, 256960, 4096, 16384, 256960
Of course you need to be rooted
Edit: download buildprop editor from the market and copy and paste these values. Seems to work a bit better for me atleast.

OP, have you tried wipe data from recovery? Just to make sure, to get into stock recovery, hold -vol and power buttons together, then + vol within 5sec, then -vol to choose option and + vol to confirm?

We should make a big warning thread sticky or something with infos about what can happen when you mess around with build.prop. This is about the third brick i see happening because of editing the build.prop.

Would it be possible just to get you to copy and paste the two lines you added. I would like to add them into mine, and give it a shot. I'm not sure of the actual syntax though. Thank you!

Just download TCP Buffer from the market.

You replace the modded files with the original backup files you made If you didnt do that - i guess factory reset.

You dont need a factory reset. If you know how to use adb just push the file located within the zip to you're tablet and reboot.
I was playing with that because everthing was ok on HC, after upgradeing to ICS ver. 11 It was a bit crappy but still could get fix. After .14 I saw only 2-3 sats with no fix at all. That's why I've started to play with it....

Or, don't even need to use cumbersome ADB, just download files to tablet, copy the files over and set permissions with something like Root Explorer.

Are you willing to unlock your Prime and void the waranty? If yes then you can install CWM. If not, you have to wait for someone to find an exploit that allows root.

His Prime is already unlocked. The issue is that he cannot install CWM because:
A) No root access for ROM manager inside working OS!
B) No access to using fastboot as this is his only computer!
If you can get to london next week, I will be more than happy to meet up and help you out dude.
might take you up on that as i fooked a flash on my galaxy s now and cant get to the recovery screen now.. lol. where in london are you?

ok, bit of an update. my galaxy i9000 crashed the other day. managed to get into local library and flash through odin in there and get it working again but the machine is locked down and no command prompt available so unable to push cwm onto my prime. so question, is there a method for doing this without command prompt or can some clever bod write an executable or batch file that will do this for me on a restricted local library machine.. cheers

HOW DO YOU INSTALL?
1. Download ZIP on link below(Extract on your desktop). If you download to phone directly, you still need to extract to a normal folder.
2. Contained within is 2 files.(voicetalk.apk & libsvoxtts.so)
3. Place voicetalk.apk in system/app with "Root Explorer" or like(Use Mount R/W and set permissions by holding voicetalk.apk to see sub-menu). Make sure to make permissions as "rw-r--r--".
4. Now place libsvoxtts.so on /system/lib.
5. Reboot *****NO NEED TO CHANGE build.prop such as with others.
6. ENJOY, then ask funny questions to it.

Works fine on my Evo3D. Nothing impressive, but it does work.
Well it did work till Samsung heard of everyone using their app before the GS3 even released and made some changes so that it now only works on the GS3. I believe you can edit build.prop and get it to work, but honestly not even worth the trouble until we get an updated version that is more capable...

Works just fine on my pre-ordered rooted LTEvo. The reason why its giving you guys the "Network Error" is because the initial ripped version of this app was not signed. There is a Signed .Apk for this app somewhere in the forums which would work "flawlessly". If incase its still messing up then fixing the permissions should do it.

Can you root the S3 w/o a computer?

I recently bought an S3 on my vacation to another country and now I'm back in Sweden again, though very far from home (roughly 370 miles) and so I was wondering if it's possible to root the galaxy S3 without a computer nearby. I noticed Mobile Odin requires root to operate so it's out of the question.

The thing is, though, unless Samsung's security on the recovery is lax and you can infact do this, you can't just take a ZIP and sign it with any key; it has to be with one that Samsung approves of, and if Samsung are doing their job well then these keys aren't available for everybody and anybody to use.
If you want to try, http://androidsu.com/superuser/ has signed ZIPs that probably contain a random key (like one you'd get with zipsigner) or you could try the signed CWM recoveries for the GS2 (which, IMO, seems just as unlikely to work)
Looks like I'll wait until I'm home at my PC, which I should be this Friday.
