I was rooted on this Thunderbolt and went back to stock since the phone isn't really mine and I really didn't want to play the support role any longer. The owner of the phone now installed the latest Verizon update which is pretty good but the owners misses Wifi Tether so I agreed to re-root the phone. Everything is well until I try to do the "dd if=/data/local/misc.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17" command in adb, the md5 checksum is an exact match but I get a permission denied error which I didn't get before.
Any idea how I can get around this? Thanks!
I had the same thing I'm not sure what was the Cuase but I did the 3 click root and worked for me hope that helps

I just used the root procedure in the development section. It worked fine. Sounds like superuser didn't take. Try again and make sure you do exactly what is written.

So the moto devices put the external SD card under mnt/sdcard-ext as everyone here knows. I'm wondering if there is any method to:
1. Have apps like rhapsody use the external card for downloading music
2. Remap using external for things like Gameloft games data
I am rooted and I've been looking at solutions - alsso know that non stock will allow for changing mount points completely, but not quite there yet.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

cool. Did some Googling and see what it is. Can you point me in the right direction for the photon? If its someplace here I'll search around for it (just say so and I'll drop it). Its late and this after dealing with my two year old and 12 week old today - a bit out of it.

Switch the vold.fstab around.
Make sure your permissions are set right

OK. I see what to do to swap. Rather then swapping it, is there a "better" mount point for the external so that programs like rhapsody would use it properly? I assume using a bind command from shell would be enough to get the Gameloft games moved.... right? Or do most people simply swap internal with external?
Thanks.

I'm curious too, been wondering this for a while but never thought to ask on here.
Is there a step by step guide for doing this or is it going to be too complicated for someone not familiar with coding.? I would love to accomplish this.

vold.fstab is located in the system/etc folder. You must be rooted to see it. You can change where the mount point is for the external SD card. How to do it is pretty straightforward based on reading the file and Googling. My question is specific to how 'mother's devices deal with the external card and how software like amazon mp3, rhapsody, etc store data to the external SD and how remapping the external SD on the photon would best allow those apps to use the microSD successfully.

Well that would be something the app developers would have to do. The vold.fstab trick is to trick everything in to thinking their switched. Not really a permanent solution. Try contacting the app devs and give as much info as possible including mount points

Lol question is was she actually talking about sdcards lol jk
To get slightly back on topic , I was wondering if someone could spell out exactly how to do aa 'junction' (this would be the windows term for it) where you have an invisible link for the OS to follow from one place to the next. So instead of modifing the root files, instead running an app that manages it or a script at boot that would allow it. Again - on stock firmware if that matters.
Mnt/sdcard/gameloft redirected to mnt/sdcard-ext/gameloft
Make sense?

I don't know how to make them, but I do have a blank one you can use to look through of you like. I too would like to know how to handle the updater-scripts so I have a better understanding.

Yeah, I have some blank one's too. The updater scripts seem to be my issue as well. I miss the old days of just being able to create a zip without all the fuss of those scripts.

First, in looking through the phone storage, 32g, I see a spot marked "other". It started out at 6g being used and is now up to 10. What is the deal with that and how do I clean it up? I've already removed most of the bloatware, but I have a feeling this is Rom related.
Second: Using Rom Toolbox I try to move certain apps to system from data, mainly my Power Toggle app. I get it moved but then I have to go back in and re-enable the notification widget portion of it. No big there. But after a reboot, the app completely disappears from the phone so I have to reinstall it from Play. Might this have anything to do with the S-on? Or is this related to it being the stock rom and not a custom?
Some ideas would be much appreciated/

No. never needed one with my LG Mytouch. I've had the original HTC Mytouch but the LG is my first time modding, if the difference of phones makes any difference.

Is there a way to debloat the completely stock rom without rooting, or is there a way to temp root a device just to debloat and then put it back to normal?
Sorry for newbie questions, I've been on an HTC for the past 3 years and haven't messed with any Samsung stuff since before then.

ok thanks, I seen the warnings not to put the OTA on, but stock roms are pretty much good for me the only reason I switched form that 3 year old HTC DNA was that the battery was dying out pretty fast now when playing games on it. Had to get back to something with a swappable battery.

That is always a plus, having a removable battery that is. The OTA isn't terrible but they could have weeded out some of the bloat -_-
